I just checked https://txfee.org/# as well and I have to agree with Findingnemo that they are not suggesting an overkilling fee rate for fast confirmations if we compare it with what https://mempool.space/ suggests.

Right now, the site suggests 94 Sat/vByte.
https://mempool.space/ suggests a high priority fee of 99 Sat/vByte.
https://jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/#1,8h is the best however. A 60-70 Sat/vByte would be enough for a next block confirmation right now. Checking the state of the mempool yourself is always better than trusting third-party fee calculators.

@tyKiwanuka
Thanks for the list. I took a look at the first link you provided. I recognized Sbobet and Matchbook and I have played on these sites in the past without needing the services of an agent. Maybe things have changed in the meantime.

Can they actually do that? How will the sportsbooks know and, more importantly, how can they prove, that this wasn't your real well-thought choice and you're using patterns?
I was just making assumptions, I don't know if they pay that much attention. But they could notice that you are doubling your stakes on the same teams and for the same type of events, for example. tyKiwanuka says it's not something worth worrying about, so let's trust him that he is right.
9344  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bex500 exchange, any of you in the States traded on this platform? on: February 20, 2021, 08:16:43 AM
I have never heard of it. Neither CoinMarketCap nor CoinGecko has it listed in their exchanges overview.
They have an announcement thread on this forum, but not a lot of information can be found there. Here is the link to the ANN > https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5203898.0.

The ANN was created by a known thread bumper (Cryptoenthusbusa) who has negative trust on this forum. Together with his team, they create fake conversations, hype, and thread bumps for projects. A quality exchange wouldn't need to use the services of people like Cryptoenthusbusa. I would suggest you find better platforms where you can carry out your trading.
9345  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Has Bitcoin Failed as Money? on: February 20, 2021, 08:03:23 AM
While bitcoin will grow in value relatively quickly, there is no point in using it as a means of payment. Why buy goods or services for bitcoin, if its holder knows that after a while its price will rise and he will be able to buy even more goods for the same amount in bitcoins?
Most merchants convert the coins they receive to fiat right away so they don't have any concerns about the direction the value will go to. They don't store bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies because they need fiat to pay their workers, bills, taxes... Your concern is only valid from the point of view of the payer or the buyer who might be speculating how the price will move after he sends his transaction.

Maybe bitcoin was never meant to be used for micropayments or as an everyday currency. Even in the old days, it wasn't considered suitable. Take a look at what satoshi said on that subject back in 2010:

Bitcoin isn't currently practical for very small micropayments.  Not for things like pay per search or per page view without an aggregating mechanism, not things needing to pay less than 0.01.  The dust spam limit is a first try at intentionally trying to prevent overly small micropayments like that.

Bitcoin is practical for smaller transactions than are practical with existing payment methods.  Small enough to include what you might call the top of the micropayment range.  But it doesn't claim to be practical for arbitrarily small micropayments.
What was true in 2010 is true even today. It's even more less suitable for micropayments considering the fees right now. We can only hope that LN catches on.
9346  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin Mining – Made in China on: February 20, 2021, 07:36:01 AM
NOTE: I posted a similar thread a few days ago in Development & Technical Discussion that got moved to the mining section. After that, the thread was thrashed by the admin of the mining board. I would like to keep this one here if that is all right, so @mods please don't move it to the mining board.

We know that 4 out of the 5 biggest mining pools are located in China, and they control 60-65% of the world’s hashrate. My focus will not be on the pools because hashrate can be easily directed to other non-Chinese pools if needed. What could be worrying is the centralisation in the production of mining equipment and mining farms located inside China’s borders.

Why is China leading the mining race?

The biggest reason is cheap electricity. Hydroelectric power, wind farms, and energy produced from burning coal. The electricity produced by these facilities is more than the supply demands. A lot of it would have been wasted if the produced energy wasn’t directed towards mining bitcoin.

According to GlobalPetrolPrices.com, the price of electricity in June 2020 in kWh for households amounts to $0.085 in China. In the US, the same amount of electricity costs $0.149. Electricity is the most expensive in Germany, where 1 kWh costs $0.385.

If we switch to electricity prices for businesses, we see a very different picture. The cost in China is $0.104/kWh and it the US it’s $0.111/kWh. The difference isn’t that big. Surprisingly, Aruba and Bahamas are at the bottom of this list with $0.274 and $0.305 per kWh.

Low Prices = Centralisation of Mining Power?

Chinese mining firms once dominated the market by over 70%, but that rate is slowly but steadily dropping to 65% and 60%. The problem could be that still too much of the hashrate is centralised in a region under a regime that could attempt to control, oppose, or destroy it. China doesn’t keep it a secret that they want to create their own national digital currency. From the regime's point of view, the big focus on bitcoin could affect their own digital asset they are planning to release sooner or later.

They don’t have to ban bitcoin mining, but they could hit miners where it hurts the most: The source and access to power. Increase electricity costs, make it less profitable, and have them abandon ship and take their equipment elsewhere.

The Northern American continent is now taking a decent chunk in this industry with new centres opening in the USA and Canada.

The US helps in decentralising bitcoin mining

Suppose we are to trust the stats provided by GlobalPetrolPrices.com from above. In that case, the USA's institutional price for electricity is not much more expensive than in China.

In October 2020, the US crypto mining company Marathon announced that it partnered with a local power provider to supply them with electricity for their mining operations. The location for this new facility is in Hardin, Montana.

According to media reports, the price of this electricity is $0.028 per kWh. This is well below the figures that GlobalPetrolPrices.com reported. The initial report claimed that the company plans to install 11.500 Antminer S19 Pro with some already in operation.

In December 2020, a new announcement was made. It was mentioned that Marathon had purchased an additional number of 10.000 Antminer S-19 Pro miners. These will be delivered throughout 2021, and once all are installed, Marathon will have over 33.500 miners (not sure where the others came from). These numbers were later boosted with another purchase of 70.000 Antminer S-19 miners taking the overall count to well over 100.000 ASIC miners once all are deployed.

There seems to be ever-growing interest by some Chinese miners to relocate their operations to the States. The US offers greater political stability and freedom, not just competitive prices. This is good for the entire industry and helps in decentralising bitcoin mining. Marathon is not the only facility, and currently, there are around 15 mining companies in USA and Canada.

Another report discusses how the Chinese government has started suspending bank accounts of Chinese miners who have been found exchanging bitcoin for yuan over OTC platforms. Unable to convert their coins into fiat and pay for electricity and other expenses, some firms have shut down, while others have fled to Russia or Kazakhstan.

What is your take on all of this? Do you believe that countries like USA, Canada, Russia, etc. will become the powerhouses of mining operations in the future?
Do you see China as a treat to decentralization?

9348  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: My Football Gambling System: A Betting Experiment on: February 19, 2021, 07:08:38 PM
I am thinking to copy this with lower bets and see how it goes but I am not that patient to wait when the selected teams.
That is the flaw with a system like this. You have to wait otherwise it won't work.

Now that you’ve tried the method with no real stakes, will you perhaps try something similar for real money?
Probably not. Due to the things you mentioned yourself. If I had placed bets on Sochaux, I would have needed a total of $1,533 just to place that last winning bet in round #14 that brought me profit. Before that, 8 matches in a row didn't go the way I would have wanted. Imagine if the bookie limited or blocked my account before round #14, and I had no way to bet on that match? Let's say I get my account unblocked in time for round #15. That match was a loss too! Now I need over $3,000 for the next round. The risks are simply too big.

I might consider a different approach. I have something else on my mind, but I have to check a couple of leagues to see where it could be applied in the best way.

Nice thread (we need more of those in here)
Thanks mate!

I wouldn't worry with that. Since there is no working betting system (other than value), every bookie will happily allow you to play any system you wish on their site.
That's good to know. To be honest I always thought bookies will ban or limit you if you attempt something like this.

This will always lead you to the big (asian) bookies sooner or later, because they have the best odds and they also have the highest limits.
I have never played at any Asian bookies. Which of them are good?

9350  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do you increase the ranking for beginners? on: February 19, 2021, 10:35:44 AM
because I am still a new user, so I still need to learn from my senior brother who is already an expert in this field, if you don't mind please guide me, bro
So why don't you ask your senior brother how he ranked up? If I understood your reply properly, your brother is a Senior Member on Bitcointalk. Unless he only got airdropped merits, he should be able to guide you if the advice the other users mentioned in this thread is not enough. There are no rules to ranking up. Just participate in the forum discussions, share your ideas and opinions, and don't break any rules or cheat.

It's hard to take you seriously and it doesn't look like you want to learn anything about Bitcoin or crypto in general. You opened this thread on January 28 and you haven't been back after January 29. it is still possible that you browse and view the forum while logged out, but I doubt that. A person with a genuine interest in Bitcoin, would ask a question or post something here and there.

How to secure a bitcointalk account from the hands of the bad guys who are not responsible out there?
because there is a lot of account hacking news out there, and my friend is the victim
You have a friend and brother on the forum. Any cousins, nieces, or uncles who need help?
9351  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: My Football Gambling System: A Betting Experiment on: February 19, 2021, 10:14:28 AM
Nice, your systems seems to be working one and you made a money with it. What online platform do you use to bet?
Like I mentioned in the opening post, I haven't placed these bets. I just documented what could have happened if I did, and what the overall profit/loss would look like. I don't like playing around with systems like this, but I know that some people do.

Regarding your question about online bookies, I prefer betting with FortuneJack and Sportsbet.io. I have never had any issues with either of those except the occasional security check on FJ. That is normal, so I have no reason to change.

I wish you luck, I don't remember ever seeing a system that was that straightforward, however I'm worried about the fact that you are using martingale and that is because as we know martingale is a system that sooner or later will make you lose money,
It requires a huge bankroll especially when you are betting on multiple teams. In theory, you can lose like 10 matches in a row per team. To continue the system, you are going to need thousands and tens of thousands of $.
9352  Other / Meta / Re: Ban Faper Account - explanation on: February 19, 2021, 10:01:31 AM
Like I initially thought after looking at the screenshot, it seems that OP can't access his PMs at all. The reason being that his account is locked for security reasons and not banned. If you think about it, that makes sense. If an account gets locked because admins believe it's been hacked and it has changed hands, it makes sense that the person controlling the account shouldn't be able to read PMs.

@hilariousandco
We can conclude that there is a difference with permissions between locked and banned accounts. Not that I think a carder who uses stolen credit cards in any way or form should be allowed to stay on this forum (yeah I know scams are not moderated).
9353  Other / Meta / Re: Account Nuked, but posts made by the account can still be seen on: February 19, 2021, 09:44:18 AM
@igehhh
All those accounts were created in 2010-2011. Back in those days, all accounts could wear an avatar. When the rules were changed and only Full Members and above were allowed to wear avatars, the users who already had avatars on their profiles were left with theirs. But it was no longer possible for avatars to be added on accounts ranked Full Members and below after the rule change.

Edit: I also considered that the users could have deleted their posts and had an avatar before doing that. But in that case, they would have the necessary merits for a Full Member rank.
9354  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: About difficulty adjustments, network security, and the hashrate on: February 19, 2021, 09:38:40 AM
Thank you DannyHamilton and the rest of the lads for chipping in. Especially the part where you explained how important it is when the hashrate drop occurs was very informative. I had to read the second point a few times to make sure I understand it.

As far as how much it would change "the security of Bitcoin"?  Well, I think the hash rate was half of what it is today back on September 7th (about 5 or 6 months ago). Was security much worse back then than it is now?
It wasn't necessarily worse, but it was 50% easier (less costly) to carry out a successful attack if one was interested in attempting that. Even if the hashrate were to drop by 50-60% or more it wouldn't make the the network unsecure. As you said yourself, it would depend how the remaining computational power was used, and if new miners entered the game, how they used their hashrate.

9356  Economy / Gambling discussion / My Football Gambling System: A Betting Experiment on: February 18, 2021, 06:54:15 PM
This is an experiment of what would happen if I followed a specific system in my sports gambling. I haven’t tried it out in practice or used it with real money bets. I wanted to see how profitable it could be to select a few teams and gamble on the same outcomes for those teams every time.

My choice fell on 2 teams from the French Ligue 2 and 2 from the Dutch Eerste Divisie. All teams play in the second divisions of their respective leagues.

The selected teams:

•   Paris FC
•   Sochaux
•   Nijmegen
•   Roda

Why these teams and leagues?

I wanted to perform the experiment with relatively well-positioned teams on the table but not positioned too high to always be considered favourites. The teams need to win enough matches in a league season but not be top of their leagues. Otherwise, the odds wouldn’t be favourable.

I selected teams positioned in the 6th and 7th place in their leagues when this experiment began. You can see from the screenshots below how the league tables looked a few days ago.

Eerste Divisie – Netherlands

Ligue 2 – France

I choose these two leagues because there are often surprises. Many unexpected results and the favourites don’t always win.

The betting system

The rules are very simple:

•   Every time the selected teams play at home, I bet on a draw (X).
•   When they play away, I bet on an away win (2).
•   If the selection losses, I double the stakes for their next match. I continue to double the stakes until the team wins.
•   If the team wins, the cycle restarts and I bet the initial stake amount.
•   When two teams from the same leagues play against each other, I skip that match, and I don’t bet.

Why these selections?

Because of the odds. This betting system is nothing new, and it’s known as the Martingale system. We need odds of 2.00 or higher to be profitable. Betting on draws and away wins usually have higher odds compared to home wins. Especially if the teams aren’t league favourites (that’s why I choose teams from the upper part of the league tables).

Are there any risks with this system?

Of course, there are. You need a lot of money to buy yourself out of trouble every time your teams lose. You may experience 5 or 10 losses in a row. There are no guarantees you will win – it’s all based on luck, after all.

Another risk is that sportsbooks can ban or limit your account if they notice known gambling patterns. You should also check if using known betting systems is legal and allowed according to your bookies TOS. I don’t know if bookie’s do that and how often.

You need to consider if the sportsbook you are using has a maximum betting limit for that particular league you have selected. Maybe your bookie allows no bets above $100 for these leagues or any other league you decide to try it on. In that case, you will run into problems if you need to double your bet from $100 to $200.

How I choose to bet, and what profit/losses did I make?

-   My initial stake was $3.
-   I have compiled a list with all my teams' results for the entire 2020/2021 season.
-   A profit/loss count is found after each round. The odds were taken from a local live score https://www.rezultati.com/. I think they use bet365 as a reference for their odds. The good thing is that the odds on crypto bookies are higher than on bet365 and many other fiat bookies.
-   All posted odds were taken from rezultati.com for the X or 2 betting selection, respectively.
-   All results were taken from that site and compared with official stats at https://keukenkampioendivisie.nl/ and https://www.ligue2.fr/

You can see the results and the overall profits of how it could have looked if I actually placed these bets in the next post.

THIS IS NOT BETTING ADVICE, AND SHOULDN’T BE CONSIDERED AS SUCH!

unfortunately, out of the thousand transactions made on the blockchain wallet, I am not able to check which BTC address was used on your forum.
It doesn't have to be publicly posted on the forum. hilariousetc told you that it can be a signed message from an address you sent to your trading partner over PM. Check your PMs, find one where you posted one of your receiving addresses, and click on the report button to report it to mods. You have to report it so it can become visible to hilariousetc and other mods.

@hilariousetc
Can OP still log in to his account? I could swear that I read that banned members can still log in and read their PMs, they just can't post or send new PMs.
But if you looked at this screenshot he posted > https://prnt.sc/zh6akd that, the error message is visible but the user is not logged in. If that is the case, he can't access his PMs.

The Last thing I remember is that he tried to use Freewallet, but they blocked his account. He took it on Twitter and complained about the account getting blocked of which freewallet quickly tried to save their asses by stating that they unblocked it

Some hours later he tweeted staying that the wallet sucks and nobody should ever use a wallet where they have no access to private keys. I am expecting that you would understand that from the last statement, that he clearly moved on from freewallet.
Your timeline is a bit off. You can check the link that was shared in the OP. Here is how it went down:

All the tweets are from February 10.
- The "Your app sucks" is the first tweet that he posted at 7:35AM.
- He then continues by saying custodial wallets should be avoided because users don't have access to their own private keys at 8:13AM.
- At 8:51AM he asks Freewallet to unlock his account.
- After they unlock it, he tweets "thanks for fixing" at 09:57AM and that is the end of the tweets exchange.

He is a smart lad so I assume he moved on to a different wallet, but we can't know for sure.
9359  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Which casinos have IP blocks in place for restricted countries? on: February 18, 2021, 02:41:53 PM
I've tried to login into ROOBET.COM using the Singapore and USA server, it looks like it doesn't work as well it says "Sorry, Robert isn't available in your region Due to our gaming license, we cannot accept players from your jurisdiction". I didn't know what is the problem or maybe it is in the VPN that is using the United Kingdom seems to work...
The United States and Singapore are on the list of restricted countries on Roobet. So is United Kingdom, so you shouldn't be able to log in from a UK IP address either. I experienced similar things when I tested Roobet. I wasn't able to log in to the site with a US IP, but I had no problems logging in with a German and Dutch IP. The IP blocks don't seem to work properly in all countries for some reason.
9360  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: A few questions about hardware wallets on: February 18, 2021, 09:38:49 AM
All the first answers have covered this. Neither the PIN, nor seed, they are not necessary if the device can be physically accessed, since the seed can be extracted and used in another wallet.
Somebody has written than adding a passphrase fixes this though.
You are correct, but only if the person who steals the device knows how to extract the seed from it. It's not implied that the thief knows how to extract it or knows about the vulnerability in the first place. I wanted to point out that BlackHatCoiner shouldn't think that the PIN is needed anywhere during the restoration of the wallet. In case he himself forgot his PIN, he can reset the device, restore it from seed, and access his funds even without it.
