9361  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The BTC Times: A new Bitcoin News Site on: August 09, 2020, 02:11:52 PM
When I look at who is behind the project, at first it seems like a very interesting team, especially Jameson Lopp which is known to me personally because of its testing project (metal seed plates/devices).

Personally, I very rarely visit crypto news sites because mostly there can be found quite poor quality content, and anyway everything that is relevant and interesting will be published on the forum. There is no basis to say how this news site will work and whether it will be any different from the others, but I think everyone deserves a chance to prove themselves.
9362  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Buy crypto using Ledger Live on: August 09, 2020, 01:13:35 PM
And wouldn't you know, Coinify asked which state I live in (there was a pull-down menu of states) and then notified me that I'm ineligible to use their service.

I checked on their website and as far as I can see about 40+ USA states have the option to buy, while selling are only allowed in the EU zone. It seems that for some reason your state does not issue a license for crypto exchanges, or that it sets requirements that such companies cannot meet.

I don't know why this is, but I'm assuming it's the same reason why I can't use Binance anymore.  Wish I could figure out what prevents residents of my state from accessing these services.  I used to be able to buy bitcoin from Circle with no problem, and now it seems there's no way I can do it using exchanges.

For the exact reason, you should contact one of the competent authorities in your country, because I think it will be difficult to get such information directly from Binance or Coinify. For a start, you can read some information about the regulation of cryptocurrencies at this link -> Cryptocurrency Regulation USA.
9363  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Profitable days of holding bitcoin percentage (98.5%) on: August 09, 2020, 12:50:48 PM
It's not about the amount of profit! The chart is there to show that in the last 10 years bitcoin was a very easy investment, basically a nobrainer. You could hear of it for the fiorst time, go to an exchange and buy some and you'd have almost 100% probability of making some profit. Can you say that about other investments like real estate or stocks?

It looks pretty simple, but it's not. Let's just remember all those who thought exactly that and finally experienced Mt.Gox (still waiting for at least part of their funds), or those who at some point remember to buying BTC a long time ago, want to sell it and fall victim to crypto clipboard malware or phishing through a legitimate Electrum wallet.

So I wouldn’t agree that Bitcoin is no-brainer asset, because ignorance leads in most cases to a loss of investment.
9364  Other / Meta / Re: Make this forum a better place - part 1 on: August 09, 2020, 10:44:25 AM
So I'll test the water if ever I encountered some of those users quoting the whole OP and see if I will got same result.

I never thought that the such posts can be deleted on reporting. I see people quoting the whole ANN thread which contain both the images and lot of text,

I edited my previous post with links to posts that are unnecessarily quoted whole OP with big image, and I can confirm that all 4 posts have been deleted + one extra in the same thread. In my report I ask mod to edit post or delete, but since the posts have been deleted, it is obvious that some moderators do not approve of such behavior.

I think the forum can be an even better place than it is now, but that means we need to use the "report to moderator" button more, and even if it sometimes means that the report may be marked as "bad".
9365  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Profitable days of holding bitcoin percentage (98.5%) on: August 09, 2020, 10:25:20 AM
No one among us are holding bitcoins since 2011. Even there are very few people who are holding bitcoins from 2015-16. People sell their coins as soon as they find some profit. They normally do not hold the coins for 300- 500X profits because it requires a lot of time and patience. People are happy getting 2x-3x profit.

Don’t be so sure about it, because there are certainly those who invested some money or the power of their computers in the early days when it was still possible. There are also people who are very patient and do not want to sell their BTC at all, because a lot can be bought and paid today with the same.

You probably don't know that there is at least one forum member (although not active since 2017) who has already moved his stock of 40 000 BTC several times (yes you read that right). While this is just one example, I believe there are more - but it should be borne in mind that most people still value their privacy.

9366  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: I lost my Bitcoins by fishing attack "update electrum 4". on: August 09, 2020, 10:10:50 AM
I see a lot of peoples here when heard that someone's bitcoins was stolen saying "forget it". Of course, My chances is very small to do something, but I will always active and closely will follow the development of events.

This is unfortunately the case - and that is why cryptocurrency hacking is very popular, in the vast majority of cases it is never revealed who the perpetrator is, especially if it hides the traces well. What you can do is contact all the known big crypto exchanges and try to ask them to block the hacker's address if he ever try to sell your coins through them. Of course, a hacker most likely has a well-established method of laundering those stolen coins - but I agree that it's just wrong to say "move on, nothing can be done".

Prevention is far better than repairing damage, and you have to learn something from this difficult life lesson - and what we keep saying is that such significant amounts of BTC should not be stored in desktop/mobile wallets. Hardware wallets certainly have their drawbacks, but if you had only invested $50 in one such device you might still have your BTC.
9367  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: I lost my Bitcoins by fishing attack "update electrum 4". on: August 08, 2020, 04:03:30 PM
Unfortunately, you are the victim of an already well-known attack that dates back to end of 2018, and all users who still have versions older than 3.3.4 are exposed to a phishing attack.

Of course, you can report your case to the police in your country, but they can't do anything about it - because the matter is quite complex, and the person behind the attack is certainly not a naive person. As far as I know, none of the victims managed to get back the stolen coins - and the best chance would be to catch that hacker and take away stolen BTC from him.

Although then each of the victims would have to prove that BTC was stolen from them, and the only correct way is to sign a message from the address from which the BTC was stolen. The chance is always there, but it's very small - I personally wouldn't hope too much.
9368  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin's Stock to flow model seems accurate ! on: August 08, 2020, 03:44:03 PM
Never underestimate the craziness of a bubble. Years from now, I honestly think 2017 may turn out to be on the tame end of Bitcoin's historical bubbles.
Time will tell, but I think most people are still greatly underestimating Bitcoin's potential. Even the bulls.

If we are talking exclusively about the value of BTC compared to fiat, then I agree that many still consider it impossible to repeat something similar to 2017. Of course, such defend the theory that it is not the same to reach a growth of 20 times from the starting point of $1000, and let's say the same from the starting point of $10 000 - but it's really just about the amount of money that will enter the BTC market over a period of time.

I don't think we'll have to wait too long to test stock to flow model, some things will become clearer as early as next year - if the model has proven to be quite accurate so far, then we can rightly hope that it can be so in the future.
9369  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Profitable days of holding bitcoin percentage (98.5%) on: August 08, 2020, 02:36:04 PM
~snip~

For most people, the investment strategy is the simplest - there is no great wisdom in this, unlike trading, which can be very profitable, but it is also a big risk, not only financial, but as we have recently seen, the risk to life (the man killed himself because he misinterpreted the data on the crypto exchange).

Although it is not bad to have some strategy and sell a part of BTC when a big bull run happens, and then use that money to buy BTC after the correction happens. In the example of 2017, anyone who sold 1 BTC could earn about $20k, and in less than a year for the same amount they could buy more than 6 BTC.

Of course, Bitcoin is unpredictable, so while we often refer to the past when trying to predict the future, it should be borne in mind that anything is possible.
9370  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why most people think Bitcoin is a scam? on: August 08, 2020, 11:14:42 AM
~snip~

If we start from the fact that most people who have heard of Bitcoin do not really understand what it is really about, we should not be surprised that the prevailing opinion is that it is some kind of Internet scam. It is very easy to understand and accept how the monetary system works, it is something we learn as children - we get money from parents and grandparents, and we quickly realize how important it is in life.

Bitcoin is something completely new and revolutionary, and the complete opposite of what we have today - and that system is of course defended by people like Buffett who is very influential because he is rich, and people admire him for that and the way he got rich. Although Bitocin has been around for 11 years, we can’t escape the fact that it only became famous after what happened in late 2017, so we could actually take that as the moment it became planetary popular.
9371  Other / Meta / Re: Make this forum a better place - part 1 on: August 08, 2020, 10:21:11 AM
Im also thinking if reporting that to moderators could be considered as good report like noting a " huge size of images, bad representation".

I reported one post from user who is quote whole OP with big image to see what the result will be, and today I see that the report was marked as good and the post was deleted. Although the outcome of each report will depend on the moderator who comes to it first, it seems that some members will learn to use the forum functions correctly only when their posts are deleted.
9372  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Grayscale: Net Assets Under Management, $5.7 billion on: August 08, 2020, 10:05:17 AM
Exactly. While it might not be good news in an ideological perspective, it's technically a bullish indicator. Economic models don't care about fundamentals.

While anyone who understands the idea behind the whole Bitcoin story knows that it would be ideal to throw banks and companies like Grayscale out of the equation, it's simply not possible because Bitcoin is meant to be available to everyone - and therefore anyone can buy it - as you say, there are people who have a lot of money, but technically they are not up to the challenges of modern times.

I think Grayscale shows how much impact only one or two companies can have if they have serious intentions when it comes to investing in Bitcoin. Like it or not, the fact is that the big players are the ones who will dictate the price of BTC.

I am not sure if Greyscale deals into physical bitcoin. Their funds are just linked to the price of its underlying assets. Am I correct?

The link I posted in my post gives a very nice insight about Grayscale, I suggest you read it Wink
9373  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Grayscale: Net Assets Under Management, $5.7 billion on: August 07, 2020, 02:13:33 PM
Maybe this is another bullish indicator?

Considering how much BTC Grayscale buys, or rather that they have more than doubled that amount in Q2 2020 compared to Q1, we can safely say that this is a bullish sign. The price is not rising just like that, there is a reason for that - and the biggest reason is certainly that Grayscale and Square bought 137.90% of all mined BTC in Q2 (only the ratio is shown in this % - it should not be related to virgin coins).

I don't think this is a bullish indicator.
The more money is locked up in a single place, the greater the centralization risk.

If someone literally buys so many quantities of BTC (currently more than is obtained by mining) it is logical that we have the law of supply and demand in place. Of course, centralization is bad for BTC - but Coinbase owns about 1 million BTCs which are just a risk - and on the other hand Grayscale allows large investors to enter BTC without too much trouble.

What will happen when the first BTC ETF is approved? Then we will not talk about billions, but about trillions (thousands of billions) that will go in the direction of Bitcoin.

Good thread about Grayscale by fillippone - > Everything you wanted to know about Grayscale BTC Trust but were afraid to ask!
9374  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Damaged hard disk - Recovery Center - They can be "trustable"? on: August 07, 2020, 01:47:00 PM
I don't think they allow me to stay there during the work. However this is not my field of expertise so I can't be sure they are not taking a copy of my data Sad

I have personally seen that some of my local services offer the option that a customer may be present during data recovery, and also more recently a privacy agreement has been offered as additional data protection in accordance with the GDPR.

Sve operacije mogu biti obavljene i u nazočnosti korisnika (posebna najava, dogovor i cijene).

Quote
All operations can be performed in the presence of the user (special announcement, agreement and prices)

I think everything can be arranged, even your presence during data recovery - but it's an extra service and makes the already expensive job more expensive. It may be important to find a service that has a really good reputation, and they always try to keep it that way.
9375  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A site or platform for buying bitcoins via cards on: August 07, 2020, 01:14:25 PM
I'm not sure what exactly you mean when you say "I also need to transfer some cards to Bitcoin"? Are you actually looking for a Visa card where you could withdraw fiat after you sell BTC?

Many crypto exchanges allow you to buy BTC via credit cards, the only question is whether your bank is crypto-friendly (do they allow such transactions). I don't want to favor any crypto exchange, but on the following link you have several options with detailed explanations - > https://www.buybitcoinworldwide.com/credit-debit-card/
9376  Economy / Economics / Re: Exclusive Tax Proposals On American Billionaires on: August 07, 2020, 12:44:30 PM
I honestly consider this way of taxation stupid and irrational, just a cheap attempt to take as much money as possible from the rich in one go and to redirect that money somewhere else. If we want the system to be fairer, then those who have more logically should spend more on taxes, because the rich have far more money than they need, while on the other hand millions die of hunger or live in severe poverty.

A lot of things are weird in the USA, and this may just be another in a series that shouldn't surprise anyone too much. Regarding Jeff Bezos, he is perceived in the world like many other entrepreneurs as a modern slave owner, because everything that comes out about the conditions in which his workers work is actually slavery of the new age.

Self made billionaires like Jeff Bezos or Mark Zuckerberg have earned such amount through their vision and hard work.

Bezos did not create anything with his hard work, little ordinary people did it for him. I share the same opinion as exstasie on billionaires problems, especially these exploiters like Bezos, or these like Mark Zuckerberg who, as one member of the American security agency said, created the largest spy network in the world that people use voluntarily.

9377  Other / Meta / Re: Make this forum a better place - part 1 on: August 07, 2020, 12:25:49 PM
Yep, quoting posts with images is annoying AF, it should be a part of basic forum bon ton to remove those. Just went through recent post history of those two users and they constantly do that, that example you shared was not a coincidence, rather a rule for them. Zero fucks given. It would be good to hear mods stance on that, as some people won;t learn the lesson until their posts start  getting deleted.

Of course, some things become a habit over time if no one reports them, and we start taking them for granted. This is why some members ignore entire boards and literally admit defeat in front of users who unfortunately haven’t even learned the basics on the forum over the years. I will try to report some of such posts to see if there will be any reactions, but we should always keep in mind that not all mods have the same criteria when it comes to moderating posts that literally do not violate forum rules.
9378  Other / Meta / Re: Make this forum a better place - part 1 on: August 07, 2020, 10:50:55 AM
I find the point raised by Jet Cash even more important. No images may be retained in quotes Lips sealed
Personally, I find this much worse and more tedious when reading through a thread.

I see this often and have never reported such posts, but I wonder if it would be desirable and what is the moderator’s position on the issue? Unnecessary use of quote is very widespread on the forum, and some members do not respond to warnings at all - although these are mostly the same ones who do not read the answers to their posts (shitposters&signature spammers).

Take this thread for example, we have Hero member who has not yet learned how to reduce the image to some appropriate size, and after that we have this :

Senior Member Reatim
Senior Member fiulpro
Full Member rodskee
Senior Member Gotumoot

I believe that after another 5 pages there will be more who will want to embellish their posts with an abuse of quote option.

Edit : Post from links are deleted by moderator after I report them.
9379  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger wallet App Isolation Bypass Alert on: August 07, 2020, 10:24:39 AM
Is there any suggestion that there was a similar bug bounty submitted to Trezor, or have they just seen the Ledger one, examined their own devices, and realized they were also susceptible?

Such information does not exist (at least I did not find it anywhere), so we can assume that the Trezor fix (new firmware) most likely has something to do with Ledger. If we look through history of Ledger&Trezor, they have identical or similar vulnerabilities, and the only difference is who will fix them first. Of course the difference is also that some things in Trezor case can’t be fixed with new firmware, which in my opinion is an even greater cause for concern.
9380  Economy / Economics / Re: Since jobs are unlikely to return, Do u think there will be a 3rd $1200 stimulus on: August 06, 2020, 02:08:01 PM
If policy does not change in terms of how to help ordinary people and the economy then stimulus checks will still be an option that policy will use as a solution to the current situation. Although this way of distributing money is not popular due to its long-term consequences, it is the easiest choice for which one should not be too smart at a given moment.

People are starting to realize that this strain of coronavirus isn't some second coming of the black plague, and businesses are starting to reopen (at least in the US).

People have already figured this out in Europe, from complete locking to coexisting with the virus under protective masks in all enclosed spaces. In fact, it is a simple choice made by governments, but also by ordinary people - a risk that we must all accept, or the fact that the whole system will collapse and that general chaos will break out.

But yeah, as far as that money printing press goes, it worries me.  Someone is going to have to pay for all of these stimulus checks eventually, and we all know that someone is going to be the taxpayers.

All debts come due sooner or later, the only question is whether it will be in 5 - 15 or maybe 50 years, which would mean shifting the burden to some new generations. I am glad that my state did not give me anything, because I would probably have to give them back ten times more, so it would be a very expensive help.
