941  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: is it possible to make a paper wallet without the password? on: May 10, 2016, 06:28:33 AM
~~
was reading on blockchain
https://blockchain.info/wallet/paper-tutorial
It says that the paper wallet has my (private key)password. So if someone broke into my home and stole my paper wallet, they could easily steal my bitcoin
~~
so my question is,   is it possible to make a paper wallet without the password?
~~

what is this password you are talking about? is it the blockchain.info wallet password, in that case you need it to access the private keys so you can get the paper wallet from bc.i and print it.

but if you want extra security on your paper wallet, you can still use some kind of encryption on those keys so someone without the encryption key can not use those.

When you put on paper you could do things like encryption mentioned.  You could change say 2 number on your paper wallet to something incorrect where even if someone finds it they will bot be able to import your wallet.

Just make sure to have a place (or places) that you document what you changed and what they should be.   If your asking if you need blockchain password if your have paper wallet anwser is no, the private key is like the mater key to your BTC holdings.
942  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How earn 1BTC a year? on: May 10, 2016, 06:24:04 AM

it's very posible if you have more "free time" to waste it, better to waste your time to collecting bitcoin than you waste your time to playing game.

playing a game is not wasting time, it is some kind of entertainment as long as you enjoy playing them. but using faucets IS waste of time because it is a meaningless job with extremely low payment while you are putting pressure on your eyes and wasting time and electricity.

Im not gamermaniac, and i hate wasting my money (time is money) at game. for me wasting my time for earning money is better than playing game.

anyway game also consume electricity  Cheesy

Well being a gamer can at least help you in egames gambling. Thus some people can call gaming as hobby, as long you have stable income.

And i agree that its better to waste time earning. As a college student I sometimes online for half a day posting and keeping tracks on altcoins.

My advice is to familiarize yourself in the system, we got altcoins that can also help give money as long as you have the strategy.

Altcoins are so pump/dump on many you could watch all day and if it goes to crap... you still could lose big depending on how much you are invested.  I really tell people to be careful with altcoins to many are just crap.

I would possibly look at Ether due to backing.  But they make bot's even that do investments they are online 24x7 watching coins and you can program... even with these bots you can lose money.  So I don't think amount of time spent online will save you with altcoins.
943  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: i want to start mining but have some question on: May 10, 2016, 06:19:23 AM
I wouldn't recommend mining now if you do not have millions of dollars worth of hardware even if you have free electricity. It is no longer profitable for new miners to get in to farm btc, unless you are filthy rich to begin with. If not the other mega farms will simply outline you,and they have already roied many many many times since before you started
im not l;ooking on getting rich with this, im looking to make atleast some money im aiming for like 1500$ per month with 10 antminers s7.. it can be done by this time? if not can u explain me why? since antminer s7 especification say that it will mine 4.7 ht/s..

edit: im not worry about energy crisis, where im planing to put my miners theres no problem with electricity

It's all speculation no one can say a guarantee of getting X per month.  With difficulty changes it can change greatly just look at this period, change may be a good amount (possibly 10 percent).   Also keep in mind having coming up that will cut amount of BTC in half.

Normally I would suggest going in a little slower.   Try 1 or 2 out see how it works with sound/heat/electricity.   And move on from there depending on results.  Do you have electrical set up for 10?  Do you have the PDU's and other equipment there?  Do you have cooling ready?  What is area like you will be putting them in?

I think starting off with 1 or 2 specifically with location would be a smarter bet.

Is there anything more "real" or substantial on the S9? I am skeptical of it's existence at this time.

Just pure speculation nothing has leaked or any good info that I know of.  People have talked about it more it seems with having coming.... but real info is just not there.  So it really is hard to say anything about it with any accuracy.

Coinbase slowly rising - 464.58 so nice to see that makes me feel gool on holding with recent upward swing.

I still have some coins on hand.
I think about 10. Not sure I have to check

 Ah the s-9

I would love the s-9 to demo in the solar array.

The S9 rumour, as far as I can see, is entirely based off Miningsweden having an S9 Preorder Hash available in the Shop. Supposedly they did the same with S7, so mayhave some value?

Yesterday another big Day with +18.75% and 171 Blocks. Things have stabilised so far this Morning and the Period to date Run Rate is at +8.8% with around 150 Blocks to go. We might get a little pull back Today, but could still go either way?

Rich

My thoughts are if they really don't have a date on the S9 with their pre-order.  So they could be collecting pre-orders a week or months. ahead.. they do not commit to anything that I see.  I think if they had true info they would be locked in a NDA and could not release any info let alone sell early.  So I don't give it a ton of merit.

Price of BTC is still over 460 is the good news.   But the difficulty change is going to hurt that is for sure.

*Edit

Looks like price went down a decent amount were around 450 so back down - http://www.coindesk.com/price/ . So loss of 10 dollars or so in a day is not so great considering we are looking at a jump in difficulty.
945  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is it worth it to invest in Antminer S7? on: May 10, 2016, 06:07:15 AM
You are definitely better off just buying Bitcoins, if you have a main source of income, then destinate something like 5% of it to buy XBT.
Ethereum is also a very interesting alternative right now. You may even consider splitting 50/50 your buys, so you invest in both technologies.

50/50 is a little risky I think but that also means possible gain.   I think when buying majority go into BTC if holding long term, and that is my own personal feeling.   I do agree ether looks interesting right now.

I am playing with it a little.   Long term... hard to say but it has a lot of supporters at this point.

Can somebody help ?

@notlist3d ?
@bitmainwarranty ?

Have a look on the screenshot posted. Would be nice to have your opinion on that ?

It's just been a while since I have messed with S4's due to my electricity price so keep that in mind.  If anyone has messed with one recently please step in.

There is a board diagnostics on their site - https://bitmain.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/203361315-Board-Diagnostics .  Do it with the S4 unplugged for safety and check the connections.  The thing I don't like about yours is seeing "----"

If that does not work personally I would back-up S4 sd card (as I am more cautious then most).  And try reflashing firmware and see if any change.   And the backup is so you can go back to previous.
947  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive SpondooliesTech SP20 Setup [HD] on: May 10, 2016, 05:53:59 AM
Thanks for this

Will the EVGA 1300w work for this or is it too close to being maxed out all the time

It will work fine.    do you realize the sp20 works far better at 1200gh to 1400gh hash rates?

If you run at 1350gh it costs 750 to 800 watts

If you run at 1650gh it costs 1200 to 1225 watts

Even if you are a free power guy.  try running them at 1400 to 1500gh  as  the 1650 to 1700gh speeds are redline speeds.

I run 8 of them in my home all around 1200gh. They use under 600 watts at this speed.

sorry im a n00b here... is this why OP said to use two 750w PSUs? in the quickstart video from the manufacturer available on youtube they mention you can use two PSU instead of one but that it will run at half the hashing rate if it is being supplied half the power demanded (1200w). i am still considering getting the evga 1300w psu and connecting this for a full 1300w but the difference between 1350 and 1650 seems quite nominal for the decrease in power bill...

I would just go with Evga 1300 personally, and that is what I did.   It's a quality psu and can be sold or used later projects.   I ROI'ed on mine... and they came in handy for ether project.

But yes some do run two 750 server psu's due to price.  Just make sure to do 1 psu per hashing board, don't mix the PSU's power on a single hashing bard.  But honestly 1 PSU is just easier.
948  Economy / Services / Re: [BIT-X.com] Earn Bitcoins by Posting | Signature Campaign on: May 10, 2016, 02:37:31 AM
I'm the only one having an issue with the BOT ? I got a bot reset however I didn't receive any payments (no SMS or PM)

I too. Payments I guess would be sent out after few hours like last 2 weeks.

Looks like Marco sent BTC to the address that pay's us out of.  So guessing payment coming once it's told to on bot.
949  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to make money on bitcointalk? on: May 10, 2016, 02:35:37 AM
If you have some talent or experience like photoshop you can create a Service or sell your finish product on Marketplace Section

Also, In this forum you can earn $$$ thru Signature Campaign if you have high rank you can get high $$$ Wink

i agree with you if you have some talent for desaign, make a video, etc
you can offer your skill for that to get money here and signature campaign is good choice too.

A skill will earn much more then sig campaign though, just are able to put a lot of hours into said skill if you are good and there is need.  I see signature campaign as a bonus, I do my normal posting and at end get a little extra BTC.  I would not advise it as sole income just as I don't think that is what it's made for.

Here I am wondering how are you even gonna pay your legal fees if any lawyer actually takes up your offer

Some lawyers will take a percentage once case is settled so you pay nothing upfront

That is very not likely for this type of matter or its circumstances.
It will be very hard to find a good law firm that would take this up on contingency.

Also, there isn't really any money in this anyway, so this is just fappin in wind.

Edit: fixed redundant word and underlined "very".

I would agree it's highly unlikely a lawyer will take this case based on a percentage.  Ones they do on percentage in most cases are sure bet's that they know they will see a check after possibly months if not years of work.

Lawyers like getting paid though so most likely they would advise OP it's highly un-likely he get's anything.  But if he is willing to pay them to fight a battle they know is a loss some lawyers would take it on.

But your mentioned.... about doing something in the wind... is pretty much right on this.  You will notice it does not have a law-firm's name attached to above that tells a lot.
951  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Hi all, i need some help with my Thesis on: May 10, 2016, 02:25:48 AM
Mining calculators work on statistical modeling of expected earnings.  There is no guarantee of actually making the expected earnings.  For example, had a user been mining on my pool since it began, they would have made approximately 25% more than expected values.  Looking at Kano's pool, you can see a lifetime earnings of over 106% of expectations.

Yes i was thinking that which is why i think i need some real raw data to work off.

Could you not just use a mining pools data?   Or look at the blockchain?  Each pool would be different on results unless your talking PPS.   So I would suggest pick a pool and use their data.

One thing worth noting 6 months of previous data will look different then the next 6 months.  With having it's hard to say a lot of what will happen and pricing is also hard.   So I think you need to decide if 6  previous months data will work if so it is very easy.  Or if you need 6 months of you doing it personally.  I guess this might depend on what the thesis is for.
952  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: i want to start mining but have some question on: May 10, 2016, 02:15:08 AM
According to the news up here in North America, the Venezuelan gov't has instituted a 2-day work week in an attempt to deal with a serious electricity crisis.  Allegedly, 70% of your power comes from the El Guri dam which is suffering a serious water shortage due to the worst drought in 40 years.  Seriously, is it a good time to start mining Bitcoin in Venezuela?  Inflation is spiraling out of control down there (projected to be nearly 500% this yearr!); you'd be better off to simply buy some Bitcoin to preserve the value of your assets while you can still afford electricity.

With power crisis and a lot of other crisis (according to news in political base there).   I would look at a hosting center somewhere a little more stable so to speak.  It would not be fun to have a S7 sitting there and not running due to electrical crisis.

News does not make it sound like a quick fix there is going to happen.  So hosting is a serious option to look at.
953  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: generate 2 bitcoins per month? on: May 10, 2016, 02:10:21 AM
You will be needing 5 x Antminer S7 (with current difficulty and BTCitcoin value of $463). The exact TH/s needed is 23.15 TH/s and with those, it gives you 23.65 TH/s (a little more than required but with difficulty changes it comes handy). Currently a single Antminer S7 goes for $533 (excluding shipping), but if you look closely in the computer hardware's section, you could find some giving free $100 discount coupons for Antminer S7 (current batch). Lastly they all need PSU's as well so have that in mind too.

Regarding cloud based minings, it would be better if you wouldn't use any one of them (even though there's one that until now has been clean and trustworthy). It would be better you invest on something you have full control over them.

Also keep in mind cost such as electricity and cooling, etc.  It most likely will take more to net a 2 BTC profit.  If he just want's 2 BTC and is not including costs then all you said would be correct.

But I would guess he want's a operation that nets 2 profit.  So again really need to know electricity price and it would take more S7's.  Add cooling in there and wiring electrical (assuming he has enough power) it is going to have some decent costs associated with it.
954  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S7 burnt probably on: May 10, 2016, 02:06:46 AM
I would just plug a PSU into the controller and none of the hashing boards to see if the controller lights up and the fans spin.

I feel like it was kinda a waste all of the help up above as full story only came out a post above yours:
Okay and I wasn't being fully honest I guess. It was lightning I suppose lot of fans and two mobile chargers in my house have burnt. I'm surprised how lights haven't burned out.

If his house's breaker did not flip and multiple items took lightning and burnt out, it's hard to say what all happened.  I would still get a proper PSU to test it.   But this is much more complex with real story coming out.
955  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Spondoolies done? on: May 10, 2016, 02:01:50 AM
What a crap article, so much typos. Anyways, i guess this just prove competing with China's cheap labor, parts and manufacture is a hard thing to do.

power costs killed them more then anything else
they never could self mine to off set costs

It was also the machines to though.  Compare the SP20 and S5 that went head to head.  SP20 was metal all the way around they really did not keep material cost down.  Then look at S5 they managed to use 2 slabs of plastic and keep cost's down.

So there really was a big difference on materials.  Bitmain just out designed them on a miner to sell to masses.  And SP claimed they lost money trying to compete on price with S5 (we cannot be sure if true).

But I do agree on power to if they would have self mined at less power costs... they might have been able to stay around much longer.
956  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Trying to get my feet soaked in BTC mining on: May 10, 2016, 01:57:41 AM

What is your living situation like is the big question before anything else.  If living in a dorm/one bed room I would hate some miners.  There are some that are almost quiet but old (example Avalon 4.1).   But others are quite loud.

But keep noise in mind when looking at miners if you are going to be living with it right there. I always liked my room quiet for studying before a exam... so a miner never made it in my college rooms.

I have a one bedroom apartment and I intend to run the miner in my living room, heat and noise was certainly a concern of mine after seeing a few videos of people running these incredibly noisy 1600w PSU's. I am also trying to figure out how to make a noise dampening box for the PSU that still provides optimal airflow.

You really can't hear the PSU over the S7.. Tongue

Not really true get a server PSU some are quite loud.   But again hard to say without knowing which PSU.    You will need to do a noise dampening box for sure or something else to dampen sound i you plan to put in a 1 bedroom apartment in living room.

So be prepared to do this pretty much as soon as you get it.  As if not mining will not be that much fun with the amount of noise when trying to study.   Also depending on building your neighbors up stairs/or down, or even beside you might be not so happy if you run a loud miner without your dampening efforts.

Luckily I will not be running one of the more noisy server PSU's for I do not have 240v outlets available so I opted for the EVGA 1600w PSU which utilizes a 120v outlet.
Any ideas for noise dampening? I am thinking about pulling the hashing boards out and submerging them in Novec or a similar coolant. I have done this with PC builds while using mineral oil as my coolant, I figure the big difference here is getting the fluid to move around its reservoir more quickly and I think Novec is able to remedy that issue due to its evaporative/recondensing properties.
If anyone has done some similar immersion cooling method for a miner I would LOVE to see it and perhaps a build log.

I think you will find out you are better off sending it to a hosting center then going at Novec (I don't know if we have seen a S7 in one).   But even if you managed it would be pricey.

Most focus on like a noise dampening box.  If you search the forums  you will find a few different ones, but main idea is to let air flow but stop some of sound.  It is the more "common" solution.  But honestly still I'm not sure you would want it in your living room.  So again I would look at hosting centers.

958  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: After the halving will bitcoin mining become not viable? on: May 10, 2016, 01:50:00 AM
Lesser numbers of bitcoins will be produced after the halving, so the bitcoins on ground will sell at a higher price. Miners will still make profit, then there is the transaction fee which acts as a supplementary income.

The current number of transactions in a block, times their BTC amount is just minuscule. I think if you were to look at how many blocks that carry transactions (some don't), you'll find that they are maybe 1% of the size of the 25 BTC reward there now. After the "halving", transactions will still be a mere pittance compared to the 12.5 BTC reward.

The total mining infrastructure of today is 99% focused on the block reward in the blocks. Transaction fees are strictly a tiny bonus.

And it might change after having but some pools keep transaction fee's they are so little, people don't seem to mind.   Biggest is antpool that does this and they have a huge userbase.

So I forsee the block reward still being the main prize so to speak for miners after having still.
959  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: No Mining = End of Bitcoin? on: May 10, 2016, 01:47:21 AM
Quote
When all the 21M coins have been mined. Miners will make their money from transaction fees, so they still need those mining machines anyhow.

If transaction fees are to high people will stop using bitcoins.

If earnings are to low people will not mine.

But the goal would not to have transaction fees so high they stop people from using the network.   It's hard to speculate so far in future, but considering people can set how much transaction fee is on many wallets.... I don't see this to high happening.

On mining just to hard to speculate that far in advance.

We are seeing a lot of short Block Times Today and the Period to Date Run rate is on a climb.... Currently at +8.7% and showing no sign yet of slowing....  Sad
If this trend were to continue for the rest of the Period we could see +9%

Rich

Looks brutal we may push past  10.

Ouch a +10 is not going to be the funnest if that happens.  The good news is that might help keep price above 460.... so there is good news there if that happens. I keep hoping we get lucky and see a jump in value even more.

Will be interesting to watch that is the only for sure thing.
