I thought Star Citizen was basically going to be an updated version of Freelancer (with some rpg elements thrown in there) but as soon as I learned about the micro-transaction aspect I was like, "$100+ for a ship?! REALLY?! Fuck this!"

Lately, I've been considering playing Allegiance again. I didn't know it went open source after Microsoft dropped it, otherwise I never would've stopped playing it.

Microsoft killed both these great games (Allegiance and Freelancer) by discontinuing support. I'll admit, neither game was perfect. What either game was lacking, the other game had. Freelancer had an immense open world, but had nothing really substantial beyond that to offer high level players. Allegiance was quite the opposite, having a relatively small universe with nothing to do other than (EPIC) team battles.

<edit> Ok, so nvm about Allegiance that game is so dead now.

The globally infamous punk rock group “Pussy Riot” has released a new video called “I Can’t Breathe” to speak out against police brutality and show their support for the case of Eric Garner.

Quote
In a statement issued this week through Buzzfeed, the group said, “Illegal violence in the name of the state kills not only its victims, but those who are chosen to carry out these actions. Policemen, soldiers, agents, they become hostages and are buried with those they kill, both figuratively and literally. We really could not breathe for this whole last year. Our previous ideas did not speak to what was happening in the conflict zone in Ukraine as we were realizing that Russia is burying itself alive in terms of the rest of the world. Committing suicide. Daily.”

“I Can’t Breathe” is the group’s first English single, and is dedicated to “all who suffer from state terror – killed, choked, perished because of war and police violence – to political prisoners and those on the streets fighting for change”.

Nadya and Masha participated in the protests against the NYPD for Eric Garner in New York City and were inspired to write a song about the struggle against police brutality.

There are two versions of the video.

Mississippi's new sex education law prevents teachers from showing teens how to use condoms. However, they CAN show kids how to protect their feet through correct and consistent sock use.  Grin

Genius Sex Ed Demo Shows Condom Use Without Breaking Mississippi Law
In Mississippi, where education laws require "stressing" abstinence, teachers areprohibited from "any demonstration of how condoms or other contraceptives are applied." Nonetheless, 76 percent of Mississippi teenagers report having sex before the end of high school, and a third of babies in the state are born to teenage mothers. One teacher came up with a creative solution for imparting some wisdom to students about condoms

950  Other / Politics & Society / Orthorexia Nervosa: Officials Declare 'Eating Healthy' A Mental Disorder on: February 19, 2015, 09:23:27 AM
http://www.jeffereyjaxen.com/blog/officials-declare-eating-health-a-mental-disorder

Quote
As the people continue to walk away from the broken medical and agricultural/food systems, like any abusive relationship, the abuser will do anything to maintain their waning control. Organic and non-GMO food markets have exploded in the last five years so much so that any corporation wishing to not follow the trend risks financial hardship or ruin. In addition, pharmaceutical companies are feeling the strain as less people want their toxic medications and crippling side effects. In an attempt to curb this mass rush for the exits, psychiatry has green lighted a public relations push to spread awareness about their new buzzword “orthorexia nervosa”. CNN, Fast Company, Popular Science, and other top outlets have all began to trumpet the talking points on cue recently. “Orthorexia nervosa is a label designated to those who are concerned about eating healthy. Characterized by disordered eating fueled by a desire for "clean" or "healthy" foods, those diagnosed with the condition are overly pre-occupied with the nutritional makeup of what they eat.

In short, if you turn your back on low quality, corporate food containing known cancer causing toxic additives, and a rich history of dishonesty rooted in a continuous “profits over people” modus operandi…then you have a mental illness. The cherry on top is that if you have the pseudo-science labeled disorder of orthorexia nervosa, you will be prescribed known toxic, pharmaceutical drugs from some of the same conglomerate corporations that you are trying to avoid by eating healthy in the first place.

Orthorexia has not yet found its way into the latest edition of the psychiatric bible, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), yet is commonly being lumped in with other eating disorders. Stepping back and looking at the ones pushing this label on us shows highly questionable motives. Psychiatry as a whole is deeply in bed with a pharmaceutical industry that makes the drugs to “treat” every one of these “disorders”. It is often these companies that are wielding influence behind the scenes to invent more mental health categories with their toxic products as the answer. This latest media push to popularize orthorexia as a mental disorder with a goal to marginalize or derail the food revolution appears to have been dead on arrival.

In closing, here are public comments from influential doctors, psychiatrists, and whistle blowers dealing with the pharmaceutical bankrolled industry of psychiatry:

“There is no definition of a mental disorder. It’s all bullshit. I mean, you just can’t define it” –Dr. Allen Frances (called “the most powerful psychiatrist in America at the moment” by New York Times, April 19, 1994)

“There is no lab test for any mental disorder right now in our science” –Dr. Russell Barkley, clinical professor of psychiatry and pediatrics at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston

“In truth, the ‘chemical imbalance’ notion was always a kind of urban legend – never a theory seriously propounded by well-informed psychiatrist.” –Dr. Ronald Pies, editor-in-chief emeritus of the Psychiatric Times (2011)

As far as getting other tattoos I think the most important thing to consider is the artist. After watching 3 seasons of 'Ink Master', I can say this with confidence. A great artist will always do great artwork, but a poor artist will never do justice to even the greatest art design. Research your tattoo artists and their portfolios well before you commit to one.

The following article is a real eye opener, as even most skeptics believe the fall of Gadhafi had to do with oil. It was really about central banking and the global monetary system.

http://www.thenewamerican.com/economy/markets/item/4630-gadhafi-s-gold-money-plan-would-have-devastated-dollar

Quote
Libya is Africa‘s largest oil producer. But one possible reason in particular for Gadhafi’s fall from grace has gained significant traction among analysts and segments of the non-Western media: central banking and the global monetary system.

According to more than a few observers, Gadhafi’s plan to quit selling Libyan oil in U.S. dollars — demanding payment instead in gold-backed “dinars” (a single African currency made from gold) — was the real cause. The regime, sitting on massive amounts of gold, estimated at close to 150 tons, was also pushing other African and Middle Eastern governments to follow suit.

And it literally had the potential to bring down the dollar and the world monetary system by extension, according to analysts. French President Nicolas Sarkozy reportedly went so far as to call Libya a “threat” to the financial security of the world. The “Insiders” were apparently panicking over Gadhafi’s plan.

"Any move such as that would certainly not be welcomed by the power elite today, who are responsible for controlling the world's central banks,” noted financial analyst Anthony Wile, editor of the free market-oriented Daily Bell, in an interview with RT. “So yes, that would certainly be something that would cause his immediate dismissal and the need for other reasons to be brought forward [for] removing him from power."

“The central banking Ponzi scheme requires an ever-increasing base of demand and the immediate silencing of those who would threaten its existence,”

Quote
“Had Gadhafi sparked a gold-driven monetary revolution, he would have done well for his own people, and for the world at large,”

956  Other / Politics & Society / Study: Junk Food more Deadly than War, Famine, Genocide (Add'l article incl'd) on: February 17, 2015, 06:28:37 PM
http://naturalsociety.com/study-junk-food-deadly-war-famine-genocide/

Quote
Makers of junk food know it is highly addictive, but the UNSW study proves unequivocally that junk food alters behavior by causing near-permanent changes in the brain’s reward circuiting, an alteration that can trigger obesity.

Quote
While mammals developed a natural trigger over our evolutionary history which prevents us from over-eating, a phenomenon termed “sensory-specific satiety,” the consumption of junk food overrides this natural ‘kill’ switch that allows us to regulate the calories we consume.

Junk food consumption also causes mitochondrial dysfunction and tissue inflammation, which leads to a host of other diseases. Perhaps most troubling, though, is that these fake foods also mess with our internal motivation and reward system – which causes us to seek more nutrition-less junk. It’s like programming a time bomb and just waiting for it to blow.

Quote
It is no wonder we are facing a global obesity epidemic. The United States is the epicenter of this troubling phenomenon, with 2 our of 3 Americans being clinically overweight or obese.

If we check the numbers against the Historical Atlas of the 20th Century, 203 million people died in the last century from war and oppression – including military and collateral civilian casualties from conflicts, genocide, politicide (i.e., the extermination of people who share a political belief), mass murders, and famines. This equates to an average of 2. million deaths a year – but the junk food habit kills more.

Even at the humble and likely modest estimation of the World Health Organization, at least 2.8 million people die annually from diseases linked to obesity including heart disease, diabetes, and brain stroke.

The junk food habit is killing 40% more people than wars, famine, dictators, murderers, and politicians put-together.

Quote
Rodale points to 31 completely pointless foods you can find in your grocery store, but we all know that there are thousands of toxic, genetically modified, high-fructose-corn syrup-containing, MSG-laden foods. The problem is that some of these foods are not so easily recognized.

Concerningly, most Americans have been tricked through brain-piercing marketing ploys into thinking these junk foods are healthful. For example, companies use terms like “healthy” or “natural” as a means to convince us it’s a good buy – this is one of many food tricks.

You know the modern food system is broken too, when even vegetables are now cause for concern – the GMO, pesticide-laden kind, that is.

So what can one do to counter-balance this literal food war? Start by eating unprocessed foods in organic form. It is really that simple. That, and growing your own food is essential. Eating better is the best weapon against the corporate coup which has us eating toxic junk straight into the hospital.

Eating healthy foods as opposed to junk [and maintaining a proper 'calories in/calories out' (CICO) ratio] might seem like common sense, but as you can see it's not quite as easy as it sounds.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: CICO - This article, http://authoritynutrition.com/debunking-the-calorie-myth/, basically states that CICO is a drastic oversimplification overlooking many other aspects of metabolism and weight gain.

Quote
Foods affect our bodies in different ways and go through different metabolic pathways. Not only that, but the foods we eat can directly affect the hormones that regulate when and how much we eat. Therefore, the types of foods we base our diet around are just as important as the amount of calories we are eating.

Quote
Even though it is true that obesity is caused by excess calories and weight loss caused by a calorie deficit, this is still such a drastic oversimplification that it is downright wrong. The fact is that different foods can have vastly different effects on our bodies and go through different metabolic pathways before they’re turned into energy (1). Just focusing on the calorie content of foods and disregarding the metabolic effects they have is a highly flawed way of thinking.

Quote
Different Foods Affect Our Hormones in Different Ways
In my opinion, one of the biggest fallacies in nutrition is to think that all calories are created equal. Different macronutrients (proteins, fats and carbohydrates) go through different metabolic pathways. Let me show you this with two examples… fructose and protein.

Fructose
Fructose, when it enters the liver from the digestive tract, can be turned into glucose and stored as glycogen. But if the liver is full of glycogen, it can be turned into fat… which is then shipped out or lodges in the liver. Consumed in excess, it can cause insulin resistance, which raises insulin levels all over the body. Insulin drives fat gain (2, 3). Fructose also doesn’t get registered in the same way as glucose and doesn’t impact satiety in the same way. Fructose doesn’t lower the hunger hormone ghrelin (4, 5). So… a 100 calories of fructose may increase your insulin over the long term, lead to higher ghrelin levels and increased appetite.

Protein
Then you have a 100 calories of protein. About 30% of the calories in the protein will be spent on digesting it, because the metabolic pathway requires energy. Protein may also increase levels of fullness and boost the metabolic rate (6, 7). This increased protein may even be used to build muscles, which are metabolically active tissues that burn calories around the clock.

Clearly… a 100 calories of fructose will have completely different effects on the body than a 100 calories of quality protein. A calorie is NOT a calorie.

Quote
Changing your macronutrients can affect your appetite in a dramatic way. The best example of this is seen in studies comparing low-carb and low-fat diets. Whereas people on low-fat diets must be calorie restricted in order to lose weight, people eating low-carb (and high fat and protein) can usually eat until they feel satisfied and still lose weight.

The author says more, but I think that's enough for the purpose of this post. (I feel like it's already too long.)
957  Other / Politics & Society / Man, 72, faces 10 years in prison for antique pistol on: February 17, 2015, 05:18:27 PM

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2015/feb/17/gordon-van-gilder-72-faces-10-years-in-prison-for-/

Quote
Gordon Van Gilder, a 72-year-old retired schoolteacher in New Jersey, faces a 10-year prison sentence for possessing an unloaded 18th-century flintlock pistol in his car.

Mr. Van Gilder, a collector of 18th-century memorabilia, said he had the gun unloaded and wrapped in a cloth in the glove compartment of his vehicle when he was pulled over in November by a Cumberland County sheriff’s deputy for a minor traffic violation, according to a video posted last week by NRA News.

After consenting to a search of his vehicle, Mr. Van Gilder said he alerted the deputy of the pistol in his glove box. The deputy let him go that night, but four police officers showed up at his home the next morning with an arrest warrant, he told NRA News.

Quote
New Jersey’s gun laws explicitly include antique firearms, even though federal laws exempt them.

Evan Nappen, an attorney who specializes in gun law cases and is representing Mr. Van Gilder, says that even a plea agreement that avoids jail time but convicts Mr. Van Gilder of a felony would likely jeopardize his teacher’s pension he spent 34 years earning, Legal Insurrection reported.

“It’s a mid-1700s flintlock bonafide antique pistol, unloaded, and yet he’s facing the same draconian penalty as if he had a .44 magnum loaded on his person. It doesn’t matter. There’s no distinction,” Mr. Nappen said.

Mr. Nappen said the prosecutor in the case even asked for ballistics testing on the black powder gun — an exercise that experts in the video argued is futile on such an old firearm.

Here's the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gu6nBQI8ZVo

As was stated in the video, whatever happened to discretion? IMO, in this case especially, a car search for a minor traffic violation is completely unwarranted. He definitely shouldn't have consented to the search.

Joseph Ray Burrell, 31, said he isn't happy that it took as long as it did for the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension crime lab's findings to be processed. He said evidence records show about a month passed before prosecutors sent the powder in to be tested and more than a month passed after that before the results were returned.

In the meantime, Burrell sat in jail waiting to go to trial for two felony counts each of third- and fifth-degree drug possession. He was released after the charges were dismissed Feb. 4. His trial was scheduled to start the following day.

I think there would be less cases like this if people that are wrongfully detained receive compensation for their time.
