Heya, thanks for the vote of confidence but I'm really just an observer, and one that is / was misinformed and/or wrong, as you can see by the fact that I was trusting a block explorer when making these claims of "12 hours away &c".   Well lets let that be a lesson to me.  Anybody know for sure what the block height and/or money supply of this coin are?

I would find it easy to believe I got the math wrong, except that nailonhead and others in this thread previously had the same conclusion as to the magic number of 990382.   I have reason to believe we are at 990213 at the moment so hey presto not 42 yet.  I hope y'all didn't already use all your celebratory materials yet.

Once again, happy 42 y'all --    funkenstein the dwarf

So, my pools currently down (explanation in my pools ANN), but it seems my copy of the "funkenstein" wallet is stuck at 990381

Wow! thank you so much for taking the time to explain this to me Smiley and in a way i can easily understand Smiley I love your software! I understand that the dev needs to fully implement the change, but is there a way i can do a clean git clone, and create my own branch? then patch my own branch for auxpow? i realize its unlikely to be added to the main coin source and therefor will not be used... but im on a "quest for knowledge" and id love to learn the process anyways :)is there maybe some reading material anybody knows of that could get me started on the right path?
945  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] 42 | + super rare | + only 42 coins to be mined | + Update b4 Block 55,000 on: July 24, 2015, 05:03:56 PM
Just one miners thoughts (i am not good at math by any means so please rip this plan apart if possible lol):
We could have the community grab control of the source (with the devs permision of course) and appoint a trusted main dev/community leader , to apply any changes to the code (doing a majority rules poll on large decisions)   - my vote is for funkenstein, already familiar with the code, and as far as i can tell, 42coins most active supporter currently.
Once in control of the code, do a "re-branding" of sorts, keeping the original chain active for all those currently hoarding (like me lol running on funkenstein's 42-limited wallet or original, whichever wins out.)

Then the community could (if theres enough interested devs) create a re-branded "42coin 2.0". This time having the proper 42 coin limit right from the start. Add low-level POS (say 2-10% max per annum) for the hoarders, and add main-chain AND aux chain capability (so it has the ability to be used as either) for the pool owners/miners, and possibly change from KGW to a different re-targeting scheme (as im unsure if timewarp is still an issue). Basically do it right, from the start.
Or, combine the ideas/chains and make 42coin 2.0 have a max coin limit of 84, (yes higher then the original idea of 42, but still low enough that the original idea of rarity/high value should still hold) to allow for POS and continued POW mining while not splitting into 2 coins.... and keeping the hoarded coins valuable, but drop the block reward to 0.0000042 instead of 0.000042 to extend mining life and to make up for the added POS hoarders.

Im am not a c dev (but know enough about other languages that i could learn quickly if needed) but i can build pools, compile wallet binaries, and build a block explorer.

as i say, i am not a coin dev by anymeans, so i truly dont know if this is a viable option.... but its all i got lol

Thanks for the heads up - will add to the list on the forum site (kind of quiet just now - we need more stimulation!!!)
Awesome thank you
also as a headsup, the links in the OP of this thread still point to sexcoinforum.ORG instead of .com Smiley

Almost there y'all!!
Less than a week to go! Cheesy Cheesy    Current monetary base, 41.5 coins outstanding.

If anyone wants to run a client that caps supply at 42 coins, I added the necessary 4 lines of code here.

https://github.com/fourtytwo42/42/pull/5

It only takes a single miner to keep either of these two forks alive.  It will be interesting to see where y'all go with it.

Nice to see you still working on this funkenstein! has your change been merged into the main branch? (in which i simply pull an update?) or is this a seperate branch i have to merge to mine? (still learning the github syntax's)

<edit> nvm i figured it out Smiley compiling now, then latenightminers.ca will be running on the funkenstein wallet</edit>

UPDATE #1

UPDATE #2
We are up and running with 8 of our 9 coins (mincoin down for maintenance).
As always with "open beta's" be sure to have a failover-only setup in your command line/conf file
HASH YOUR HEART OUT.

UPDATE #3
Hello all, and sorry for the downtime. It seems that due to the DDOS attack my ISP thought it would be a wonderful idea to block all incoming traffic on most ports...... for my protection lmao. And (of course) all tech support with the ability to re-open these ports are off untill monday. So due to this unforseen setback, LATENIGHTMINERS.CA will be down untill monday when regular tcp traffic has  resumed to my server. I will update the minute we are back online.

FINAL UPDATE
After many back-and-forth arguments with my ISP, they refuse to unblock multiple ports in my pools port range setup. I could quite easily change the stratum ports, However, i would simply be open to another attack as i refused to pay the attacker. So, sadly, untill i am able to aquire an AVS or similar, latenightminers.ca will be closed. I've made a few attempts now at running pools on a home-built server (python-stratum/mpos, nomp/mpos, nomp and unomp) but always seem to get shut down by DDOS. SO, as stated above, we will be down untill i can acquire a more stable server.

953  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Patching a coin for AUXPOW on: July 17, 2015, 06:54:42 AM
Hello all!
I have 2 questions here im hoping someone in the crypto community knows the answer to. I've been working quite hard on building a merged-minng, profit-switching, auto-exchanging, multi-pool lately (using unomp and combining a few guides online). I'm still fairly early in my build (after many full wipes and starting from scratch) but after some research ive come up with these 2 questions.

1)How does one go about patching a scrypt coin for auxpow as a secondary coin? is this possible by a pool owner for use on their pool (which i could then upload to github as a commit?) or does the dev have to implement the merged mining in the coin source?

2)does both the parent coin and secondary coin need to be patched? can i make multiple parents mine the same secondary aux coins? (due to my goal of profit-switching.. id like all my "switchable" coins to be merged mining.

I was reading around and found this post https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=68248.0 however it only mentions sha256 patching, and doesn't source the patch files. I'd love to add a few non merged capable coins to my pool as secondary chains (either too litecoin or dogecoin likely), and multiple main chains merged mining.

<edit>My Research So Far
patching:

general merged mining info:
-http://dot-bit.org/Merged_Mining

and either im blind, or what im looking for isnt quite in those sources (i may actually be blind lol its 3 am in ontario)</edit>
954  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How to build your own Multipool - the Open Source Way on: July 17, 2015, 06:37:58 AM
first off great tutorial! my question for you is does this method work with the updated unomp aswell? and if so is there a way to send the auxpow coins for auto-exchange aswell?  so they can be paid out to the user? (unomp has the auxpow merged mining ability, it just doesnt pay them out yet)

958  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Building headless Bitcoin and Bitcoin-qt on Windows on: July 01, 2015, 09:02:19 PM
If you want to build bitcoin for windows in a linux environment use gitian ...

See here .... https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/blob/master/doc/gitian-building.md

I used debian running in virtual box as suggested here

Personally I have been able to succeed in this method for bitcoin however to use gitian for an altcoin I found more difficult.

There are so many different versions and changes made to various clones along the way you really have to know what you are doing to get it to work.

I have had some success doing this but since building linux on linux is so easy and building win-qt or bitcoind or for altcoins on win is something I have mastered I have never spent the time to perfect gitian for another coin/system/altcoin..

awesome thank you so much for the answer Smiley ill definitely take a look into gitian. I would love to be able do accomplish this with windows, however i keep running into a pnglibconf error, which stops me dead in my tracks.
959  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Building headless Bitcoin and Bitcoin-qt on Windows on: July 01, 2015, 06:01:04 PM
Hello, First i want to say, great tutorial! Sadly im having a small issue with the dependency portion of the install. Im quite used to linux, and actually recognize quite a few of these dependencies from previous linux wallet builds. However with this windows install i keep getting stuck at the qr deps section. The error im receiving is:
Code:
$ make
rm -f pnglibconf.c pnglibconf.tf[45]
gawk -f ./scripts/options.awk out=pnglibconf.tf4 version=search\
            ./pngconf.h ./scripts/pnglibconf.dfa\
            ./pngusr.dfa  1>&2
gawk -f ./scripts/options.awk out=pnglibconf.tf5 pnglibconf.tf4 1>&2
options.awk: bad line (10): com
make: *** [pnglibconf.c] Error 1
[/color]
Any ideas how to fix this? after a google search ive found a few similar questions.... however the answers provided are for osx, and involve symlinking /usr/include pointed to /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/MacOSX.platform/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.9.sdk/usr/include ..... which is no help to me lol.

anyone....... anyone...... bueller.... bueller....

<edit> does anyone know if i can build the qt-wallet from scratch for windows.. but on a linux box?? im far more familiar with a linux term then a windows cmd. and im pretty sure all of these dependancies are available for linux. could it be as easy as using a cross compiling toolchain and setting --build to something like i686-windows?? </edit>
