What are they planning on revising?
942  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What good things has Obama had since he is elected ? on: June 16, 2014, 01:46:15 PM
What about Obama's saving of the US automobile industry by giving government bailouts in 2009? A lot of people regarded it as a bad move and waste of tax payer's money.

However, General Motors is now one of the most profitable companies in the world. GM has earned a stunning $22.6 billion in the 5 years since the bailouts in 2009 and has repaid everything it was obligated to repay the US gov.

Chrysler Group LLC has also repaid their $7.5 billion debt from the 2009 federal bailout to the U.S. and Canadian government in 2011, when the deadline that they had been given was 2017. They managed to pay 6 years early.

For all concerned, Obama's bailout plan was a success. If he had taken down those companies instead through the 'controlled bankruptcy' plans a lot of his political opponents were advocating, there'll be millions of jobs lost from american soil and more money flowing out of the country buying more imported cars which will further raise the national debt level.

So this was indeed a far sighted move by Obama.

Hopefully closer to home so his family and friends can participate more easily in his recovery. This has to be good news even if he may sadly never fully recover.
944  Economy / Economics / Re: Investment advice? on: June 16, 2014, 11:21:53 AM
Thanks for the great advice everyone. I think I will use my funds to try start a small side business! I'm not too sure about Forex and don't like playing with stocks .
And I realized what Sana said about fixed deposit and inflation rates is right. I would be able to get higher returns through other forms of investments. I don't really mind the risk as long as it is reasonable.
945  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Best place in America to rape 12 year-old girls on: June 14, 2014, 01:22:22 PM
Absolutely disgusting the way the court whitewashed this and let this man slide with no real consequences. They added insult to injury, by harassing the victim. Let's be honest here- the girl didn't refuse to testify,Until she was threatened with the release of her confidential material. This is all about money, and how he gets off because he has it. I hope she sues him for Many,Many,Millions! The only thing he probably 'gets'!
946  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The Lack of Major Wars May Be Hurting Economic Growth on: June 14, 2014, 01:16:07 PM
To speak about war as beneficial to an economic situation is to defile all the victims that lose their lives, or their family members, their homes, their security, their safety.
Shame on the NYT for its constant warmongering ways.

Dolly (5 July 1996 – 14 February 2003) was a female domestic sheep, and the first mammal to be cloned from an adult somatic cell, using the process of nuclear transfer. She was cloned by Ian Wilmut, Keith Campbell and colleagues at the Roslin Institute near Edinburgh inScotland. She was born on 5 July 1996 and she lived until the age of six; unfortunately she suffered from a progressive lung disease.

How awful, I would never do that to one of my pet cats or dogs, much less to a child, I mean what if there was a fire and the poor little boy was trapped in it. Awful, just awful.

Barack Obama has executed a whole lot of tasks.. However, the best of the lot is the killing of terrorist Osama Bin Laden and the end of war in Iraq.
950  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Iraq Isis Crisis: Medieval Sharia Law Imposed on Millions in Nineveh Province on: June 13, 2014, 04:36:30 PM
There are big differences between that Christianity and Islam. they are able for compensations but at a much smaller scale than it actually happens. and from the religious point of view Christianity is weaker than Islam, much weaker, proof being their status today.
Agreed. Christians need to stop turning the other cheek, start beheading people in the name of their God, and seek solace in living in dirt floored hovels in between their calls to prayer to honor their God. Better yet, they should all just be killed in the name of hollow snackbar.

In Christianity, some believe that Judas — one of Jesus' 12 apostles — arrived as the 13th guest to the Last Supper. The next morning, it was Judas who betrayed Jesus, leading to his arrest and crucifixion....so from here the fear of the number 13 and  Friday the  13th

I know more than 5 programming languages, but personally I think that C++ is the best language to start learning programming.
953  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What good things has Obama had since he is elected ? on: June 13, 2014, 01:05:48 PM
Ok, lets start, bad things he has done . he divided the country like first thing, and US debt by 2016 is going to be 27 trillion $ and 15 million of people with unaffordable health care failed acts in Crimea in Ukraine IRS scandals ...
The affordable Care Act was not a failure.... it was the Legislative Branch of government that screwed that up...their tactics made it impossible to pass anything remotely close to a universal healthcare system in the US! Half of what President Obama is being blamed for were direct results of republican refusal to compromise!! Which kind of defeats the purpose of a democratic form of government. All the Bill actually does is protect people from the Insurance companies...it's a Patient Bill of Rights...not genuine health care coverage for Americans that need it!!! Universal Heath Care was the original goal, this was just a first step!!
I totally agree with you on the healthcare stance. The republicans should be ashamed of themselves when other developed countries including their eastern counterparts like Japan and Malaysia have managed to figure out a way to provide cheap and affordable healthcare while they themselves keep accepting 'donation money' from the healthcare industry to block reforms!!

In this research that was conducted in 2010 among 7 developed nations, US ranked the last in healthcare!:
"Among the seven nations studied—Australia, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States—the U.S. ranks last overall, as it did in the 2007, 2006, and 2004 editions of Mirror, Mirror. Most troubling, the U.S. fails to achieve better health outcomes than the other countries, and as shown in the earlier editions, the U.S. is last on dimensions of access, patient safety, coordination, efficiency, and equity. The Netherlands ranks first, followed closely by the U.K. and Australia. The 2010 edition includes data from the seven countries and incorporates patients' and physicians' survey results on care experiences and ratings on various dimensions of care."

One of the reasons frequently quoted was the lack of gov healthcare coverage.. I'm glad that Obama recognized this and has taken solid steps to solve the crisis! Even going as far as not giving in to the republicans when they made the gov shut down and hold Medicare as hostage..

Fixing the US Economy
Winning the war in Iraq

But the fact is that he started a new one with Libya ...
A lot of people would say for Obama. A wolf in sheep's clothing

Please, define "winning" in the context of US involvement in the Middle East.  I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Because any activity that costs $4-6 trillion and results in the deaths of over half a million human beings...doesn't involve any "winning".
We removed a murdering dictator who killed his own people by the thousands, we helped institute a government that gives the citizens the right to vote and choose their own leaders, we brought liberty to those people. We helped the country develop a military and police force so they can defend themselves against the terrorists. The real test is after we leave will it continue to improve or return to what it was? So far I would call it a win.

Fixing the US Economy
Winning the war in Iraq

The US economy is worse off now, than it was during the years of GW Bush.

And regarding the war in Iraq, read this:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=647312.0
He did not win the war in Iraq. The invasion of Iraq wasn't really a war in a first place. It was a massacre. But he was the one who withdrew US troops from Iraq and he happened to be the president when Osama Bin Laden was found and killed by a SWAT team.

He can't really be credited for the killing of Osama bin Laden but he did made a good move by withdrawing US troops from Iraq and giving them back to their families.
yes that's true ...
I have found some interesting facts or if we can call them facts on Washington Monthly portal ... They counted 50 good things that he has done but I would not agree with all of them , take a look if you want ....

20th century: The PC, nukes
21st century: 9/11, Bitcoin(may be).... its still early, 14 years only Cool
I guess 9/11 Terrorist Attacks was a major event in the history . .The destruction had undoubtedly damaged economy in the country, but then it also pushed US to control terrorism..
Well, actually I do think that Black Tuesday was a very significant event that changed the world as it made us realize how fragile our economic institutions are and how irresponsible and unscrupulous business tactics will eventually destroy the system.

Before 1929, the public perception of the economy and the stock market was that they are 'too big to fail'. So business people also began cheating the system left and right thinking that their little shenanigans are nothing more than a small ant on an elephant. But little did they know, those little ants piled up and eventually took down the elephant as public ignorance and paranoia about how stock markets really worked led to a collapse in the stock market.

It made people realize that the economy is not an invincible and all powerful entity that they thought it was and it is very much affected by human behavior, leading to more laws passed to regulate the stock market.
958  Other / Off-topic / Re: Why do people deny the climate change? on: June 12, 2014, 05:11:27 PM
I think there are some very wealthy people / interests who back denial, and are based in the U.S. The U.S. seems to have free speech for corporations, and some shielding of identity of people / corporations who may be financing a particular speech.

Vote goes for Counter Strike: Source. Never has there been such a great and fair online shooter. It was the first game I got into and it turned me into an online gamer.

So this is good news? Or can their words still be trusted? Because as we all know, they just recently lied to the International community that 'most of the girls has been returned to their families' to avoid international criticism over their inaction and their lies were found out!

I don't trust the Nigerian authorities any more. Unconfirmed reports suggests that most of the girls have been taken to the neighboring nation of Cameroon, after their formal conversion to Islam. Only the International troops can free them.
I am eagerly waiting to hear a piece of good news from the country of Nigeria.. The country was early known to be the most peaceful countries in the world, a place where people where used to regard each other as their own brother, and now blood is being split at every step..

I guess it is the Government of Nigeria which should take complete responsibility of the situation!!
They are promising them better life , lots of money , and they wash their brains so they think they are heroes who are saving that country Syria or any other country ... The main problem is that they really have strong conviction methods and internet and mass spread just helped them to spread even more . None knows for sure what are they promising to that new soldiers .. but I say only educated person is not going to fall on their fantasy's .
I agree with what you said about the terrorist groups advertising their cause based on the value of valor and the lure of being a called a hero by their countrymen.

But do you know that highly educated people are much more likely to become terrorists rather than lower educated people?? This is because what the terrorists are fighting for are their ideals. Often, those ideals are highly developed and requires a complex minded individual to understand and agree with those ideals, moreover, highly educated people can easily see 'what is wrong' with the world and have a desire to change the world based on their ideology.

That is why many terrorists tend to be college or university aged young adults who are highly intelligent. Think about it, the terrorists during 9/11 even knew how to fly a plane! This takes years of intense training.

It is not stupidity that causes terrorism. But rather a fundamental trait of terrorism is intelligence. Just that their intelligence is guided in the wrong direction and clouded by grand delusions.
You have a point... It is actually educated people who have mastered in some field or other who turn terrorists..
And I feel that they do such things when they fail to get an identity for themselves... Another possible reason is when their self esteem gets hurt..
