9421  Economy / Economics / Re: Cuba the next country to accept cryptocurrencies? on: August 29, 2021, 04:20:08 AM
Cuba will now recognize and control cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin for socio economic reasons. Central banks will accept crypto for their own benefit the cuban cryptocurrency adoption was a global epidemic and this desperate need for cash to curb access to the world economy which helped drive the rise of crypto adoption in cuba. Every people out there who lean towards cryptocurrency credits the growing crypto community for the rise of the Internet in cuba.

I really doubt that. The problem with socialist nations is that their national currencies are very weak. The exchange rates are artificially kept at a level, which is not viable in the free market. This is even applicable to currencies such as the Chinese Yuan. So the problem if they recognize Bitcoin is that the population would prefer to store their money in the form of BTC, since it offers better protection from inflation. And this will make it more difficult for the government to maintain the exchange rates. El Salvador didn't faced this issue, because they don't have a national currency.
9422  Economy / Economics / Re: Nigeria leads sub-Saharan Africa’s P2P bitcoin trade on: August 29, 2021, 04:10:39 AM
Reality check:

Quote
In the last trading week, a total of $17,599,679 was traded in BTC volume from sub-Saharan Africa.
Nigeria led sub-Saharan charge with $8,761,051 in BTC traded volume.

That comes to $1.25m a day, or to help you visualize the amount of revenue a Walmart superstore or a Costco generates a day, now, since we're talking about a country of 200 million, how does this volume of 20 cents per citizen per month sound like?

How can we be sure that these are the real volumes? There are dozens (if not hundreds) of P2P platforms, and it is very difficult to get a clear picture on a country-by-country basis. Also, not many of the P2P platforms publish these sort of trade volumes. Some like Localbitcoins do, but they now require KYC verification and many of the users don't even consider them as P2P. And in a country like Nigeria, where the government is openly hostile towards cryptocurrency, I am sure that the users will try to hide their real identity and volumes as much as possible (as I have seen here in India as well).
9423  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Canelo Alvarez vs Caleb Plant on: August 29, 2021, 04:00:40 AM
Caleb Plant will gain a lot if he wins this fight from being an unknown he will become a household name,

If you are talking about the purse money, Caleb Plant won't gain much if he wins. The purse was set fixed on which Plant will earn $10M while on the other hand, Canelo will take home $40 as far as the terms are concerned.

If you are talking about reputation and fame, Caleb Plant will surely gain a higher rank and more money offer in the future if he will able to pass the heavy favorites Canelo.

Caleb doesn't care much about money. Three years back, he claimed that he would surrender the entire purse, if he gets an opportunity to fight for the IBF championship. And the $10 million we are talking about is the guaranteed purse. He will receive $10 million (and a share from the revenues if they cross a certain threshold) even if he losses the match. It is slightly lower than what Sergey Kovalev and Daniel Jacobs got paid ($12 million each), but Caleb has said that he's happy with the revenue sharing agreement. Obviously if he wins, then he will receive a significantly higher amount.
9424  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 💰 Summer Tokyo 2020 💰 Discussion and bet thread 💰 Summer Game 💰 on: August 29, 2021, 03:50:20 AM
The USA are not usually very medal winners in this category, despite always being well placed. Either way, their forte is athletics, and athletics competitions haven't started yet. Even so, China already has an advantage, it will be difficult to be surpassed.

The United States is not one of the powerhouses as far as Paralympics is concerned. I guess the reason is that the proportion of handicapped people in the US is lower than what they have in countries such as China and Russia (but that argument doesn't explain why the Great Britain is at no.2 in medals table). During the 2016 Paralympics, US was at the 4th position with 40 golds (China had 107 golds in comparison). However, you are right when you claim that they are very strong in athletics. 16 out of their 40 golds came from that sport.
9425  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: porn/sex industry and cryptocurrency on: August 29, 2021, 03:40:11 AM
I agree with you, if indeed the porn industry wants to use Crypto as a means of payment, they better accept a good coin, it will make it easier for them than making their own coins, but the porn industry has no useful benefits for people, only those who have an addiction to pornography will benefit, because for me personally pornography is just exploitation of women and I don't really like it.

If you don't like it, then you stay away from it. Just because you don't like something, you don't have the authority to claim that others should also follow your thought process. There may be exploitation of women in pornography. But such exploitation exists everywhere. And the alternatives for pornography are much worse. In countries where the porn industry is most organized (Japan, Taiwan.etc), the rates of prostitution and sexual abuse are very low. On the other hand, the rates are highest in countries where porn is banned (such as India and Egypt).
9426  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: help me, to recover 19 BTC on: August 29, 2021, 03:30:48 AM
19 BTC is close to a million USD. And that is a lot of money. It will be a lot more, when the exchange rates rise in the future. From what I understand from the phrase, the phone number that was used to setup the wallet is still available. Only one word is missing from the recovery phrase combination. I am not much hopeful, but you can still try contacting the guys who specialize in this. The issue is that you may need to pay a small amount upfront, and they may take around 50% of what is recovered. The reward that you are offering (3BTC) is not going to get you a lot many offers.
9427  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: August 29, 2021, 03:20:04 AM
It is five match series. The second T20 is scheduled to take place tomorrow. The match will be interesting to watch, because the winning have boosted the Zimbabwe team to play better cricket. Ireland on the other side makes careful decisions and stable move, because a win at this level is a must to take advantage on winning the series. If this match gets lost, the pressure to win keeps rising and the same diatracts the performance.

I watched the Ireland innings in the first match and have to say that they deserved to lose. The batsmen were very complacent, especially after the first wicket partnership between Kevin O'Brien and Paul Stirling. The remaining batsmen wanted to finish the match quickly and went for useless shots. The Zimbabweans were patients and restricted their bowling to good line and length rather than trying something funny. And they got rewarded for it. Just 5 runs were needed from the last over, and the Irish batsmen couldn't even manage that.
9428  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: August 29, 2021, 03:10:28 AM
India losing by an innings didn't surprise me at all since their batting has been unpredictable in this match. Robinson absolutely demolished them. However, the most entertaining part of this match was this.

https://youtu.be/wsIq3dBH6nY

Jarvo is seriously something else. He improved the entertainment quotient of this particular test series in my opinion. Crazy dude!

LOL.. sometimes I feel that if Jarvo (Daniel Jarvis) had replaced Rahane or Pant, then India would have been in a better position. The funniest part was the guy wearing a face-mask under his helmet. He is trying to spread his message against COVID 19. But this time the ground staff were more hostile towards him and kicked him out of the ground without any delay. Unfortunately we will miss the entertainment for the rest of the series, since in all probability he has been blacklisted and banned permanently.
9429  Economy / Economics / Re: Enjoy comunism (II): Venezuela to cut 6 zeros from its currency on: August 29, 2021, 03:00:13 AM
Without the support of the West in 1990-2000+, there would have been no "success for China." Well, it is difficult to call the system, in its pure form, communist. This is a mixture of a totalitarian system, with elements of "manual economic freedom". But as we observe now, totalitarianism is beginning to regain its positions, and it will soon be difficult for "free business". State control and influence is already working, and there is still a smooth transition of management from private owners to state "henchmen"

Transition of ownership is from successful private individuals to political proxies. And this is not communism. In communism, the state controls everything, and not the individual. One example is the takeover of Yukos by the Russian government in 2004. Another example is the seizure of private business in Venezuela when Hugo Chavez was the president. This is not happening in China. In China the government understands that socialism/communism never works in real life and therefore they have come up with an authoritarian system which is combined with capitalism.
9430  Economy / Economics / Re: After 1 year of Covid 19 Virus on: August 29, 2021, 02:50:26 AM
This is interesting especially since Pfizer just got full FDA approval in the United States, which means that it is likely to increase market share as Moderna has not been fully approved and continues just to be approved on an emergency basis.  If there really is such a large disparity it outcomes over time, hopefully Moderna will be approved and gain marketshare.

Moderna is still facing issues in increasing it's output, while Pfizer has ramped up its production considerably. Also, Moderna is facing issues related to maintaining the quality of it's product. Japan recently rejected more than 1 million doses, after they were found to be contaminated. On the other hand, being one of the largest pharmaceutical companies, Pfizer has faced no such issues (despite their monthly production measured at many times that of Moderna).

And the Moderna vaccine remains very unaffordable to the ordinary people, as it is priced almost two times higher than that of the Pfizer vaccine. As per the data from the Philippines, Pfizer costs PHP 2,379 per two doses ($48), while Moderna vaccine costs PHP 4504 ($90). For comparison, the cost of two doses of Sinovac is PHP 3630 ($73) and that of Sputnik V is PHP 1,220 ($24).
9431  Economy / Economics / Re: Setelah 1 Tahun Virus Covid 19 on: August 28, 2021, 04:30:04 AM
The vaccine is not a panacea, it does not cure a disease! Its purpose:
- in the best case - "isolate" the spread of the virus by a strong immune response from the body, preventing the virus from infecting the body and making it a carrier
 - in the "worst" - significantly reduce the load on the body in case of illness. Reduce the risks of severe or fatal consequences.

So even basic vaccination, even in the presence of new strains, lowers the mortality curve compared to the unvaccinated community.

I am very glad that in Ukraine, at the moment, a total vaccination has been organized, with all vaccines certified by WHO (Koronovac, Modern, Pfizer, Astrazeneca). And now the figure has already been reached, of the total number of residents of the country, 8% and 12% fully vaccinated and with the first dose.

PS I received the second dose of Moderna the week before last Smiley

Agreed with the points, and I also believe that being fully vaccinated reduces your chance of dying from COVID by a factor of 100 times or more. But I am having doubts with every passing day. Countries that had achieved more than 50% vaccination coverage (such as the United States and the United Kingdom) are witnessing a huge spike in infections and new deaths. Also, a few of the studies now claim that the antibodies provided by the mRNA vaccines such as Moderna and Pfizer last only for 6 to 12 months.
9432  Economy / Speculation / Re: What make people panic sell? on: August 28, 2021, 04:20:11 AM
People selling bitcoin in panic when they hear that their country is going to ban bitcoin this happened with me many times in the beginning I used to be very scary what would I do if i will lose my money which I invested in bitcoin but now I understood nobody directly can ban bitcoin.

Hmm.. this has happened multiple times here in India. There is no clarity on this issue from the government, so any rumor or FUD circulating around in the social media can have a great impact on the local users. First occurrence was in 2018, when the Reserve Bank of India issued a warning (not a ban) against cryptocurrency and prohibited banks from working in the cryptocurrency sector (the ban was struck down by the supreme court in 2020). Then again by the end of 2020, a bill which would have made possession of cryptocurrency a criminal offense was listed in the parliament website. After a lot of social media campaigning by the users, the government decided to shelve the bill. But on both the occasions, it resulted in panic selling among the Indian users.
9433  Economy / Economics / Re: Enjoy comunism (II): Venezuela to cut 6 zeros from its currency on: August 28, 2021, 04:10:22 AM
"there are many economically successful communist regimes" - do you have such a subtle sense of humor? Or such fat fantasies? Smiley No offense - you can give 1-2 examples from "successful communist regimes" to understand what "success" means to you ... I lived part of my life in a country that built "developed socialism" and paved the way to "communism", and I will tell you this - I regret the lost years "in a successful mode", and I perfectly remember "all the successes" and "achievements" that will make your hair stand on end on your head ...

LOL.. even one example is enough for me. I have talked to some of my friends who are ardent supporters of the communist party. When I ask them why socialist countries such as Cuba and Venezuela are in such poor state, they tell me that these countries are not "real" communist/socialist countries. They provide the example of New Zealand, Denmark, Sweden.etc. The claim is that the ruling parties in these countries follow socialism, which is far from reality. If these countries actually had a socialist economy, then they would be as worse as Zimbabwe or Somalia.
9434  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 💰 Summer Tokyo 2020 💰 Discussion and bet thread 💰 Summer Game 💰 on: August 28, 2021, 04:00:13 AM
China seems to be far ahead in the medals table, with 21 golds (almost double when compared to the second ranking Great Britain). I noticed that Japan is not in the top-10. I hope that this is due to the fact that number of handicapped people are less there. And BTW, India has the largest handicapped population in the world and they are yet to win a medal in this edition so far. I am not surprised, because there is not much support from the government towards these athletes. In India there is hardly any media coverage of the Paralympics.
9435  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Canelo Alvarez vs Caleb Plant on: August 28, 2021, 03:50:52 AM
That is true, but you have to understand that Joshua was overlooking Ruiz that time and thinking ahead of a Fury fight, and he avenge his defeat. And same as where you got your quote with, Tyson was upset by Buster Douglas, a 42:1 underdog.

But don't you think that Canelo is underestimating Caleb Plant? I doubt that, he has a good team behind him, guiding him on every direction. Unless he was hit by Plant like a hail mary shot in the chin or in his ear, then we might see an upset.

I wasn't even following boxing in 1990 when Buster Douglas scored a KO victory over Mike Tyson. But it just shows how common upsets are in professional boxing. If the odds given above are true, then this has to be one of the biggest upsets in any sporting event. And I am sure that Caleb Plant has much better odds than +4200. The last time I checked he was at +550. Anyway I will be going for him. Canelo is not looking like he is invincible. Already we had an upset a few days ago (Yordenis Ugás vs Manny Paquiao) and I guess the time is right for another one.
9436  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin fans have developed into a political force. Is this the dawn of victory? on: August 28, 2021, 03:40:07 AM
I accept your point of view. Every Bitcoin supporter has his own worldview and values, and has a different way of thinking. One important point is that each of us lives in a political environment because we Unable to leave the country. Each of us has political influence in our hearts. However, perhaps a brand new Bitcoin organization can be realized through the network

The question is whether we need a centralized organization for doing this work. As seen from the example from India, Bitcoin users have been able to exert pressure on the government even without a formal association. And in case we go for organized activism, then there will be backlash from the opposing sectors as well. I would prefer the current status quo, at least until Bitcoin becomes more popular. And organized activism is not necessary to influence politics. Look at what happened to El Salvador. Bitcoin was declared as the legal tender without any organized activity.
9437  Economy / Economics / Re: Enjoy communism (III) rats eating dead people and people eating rats in NK on: August 28, 2021, 03:30:07 AM
I would like to state that you did not mention one country that followed real communism because real communism is really different than the countries you mentioned because you are mixing socialism which is not pure communism and authoritarian regime like they have in North Korea.

Coming to Cuba, under Fidel Castro it was a much better rule and they focused on education and at one point the literacy rates were much higher than some of the developed countries and their health care system was great and lastly i am coming from a state which is ruled by Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the development is evident as our state is usually rated number one in terms of education and other social economic benchmarks.

Since you are talking about communism, Now coming to New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern is the prime minister from Labour Party which is a left wing political party. If you have any debates regarding this we can continue  Wink.

LOL... It is funny that now Communists believe that Jacinda Ardern is one of them. The New Zealand Labour Party is "left-wing" in a relative sense. By no means they are closer to the communists. They support capitalism and have taken strong stance against communist/socialist policies. If you classify parties such as the NZLP as communist, then even the United States can be said to be ruled by the Communist Party. Because Joe Biden is from the Democrat party, which is far more left-wing when compared to the NZLP. Don't try to paint successful capitalist economies as success of communism. "Real" communist countries are Cuba, Venezuela, North Korea.etc.
9438  Economy / Economics / Re: Baltic - Black Sea Union as an alternative to the EU. on: August 28, 2021, 03:20:09 AM
It could be an incredible idea! But in this case, it will create a new block against Russia (except Belarus if Lukachenko stays and also Turkey which is playing on both side) and Putin, this chess player, will never let this happen!
Second point, for me, Turkey is mostly interested by Western Europe, not Eastern so this kind of block is not in its interest.

Economically such an union doesn't make sense. All these nations are economically dependent on Germany and forming such an union with non-EU member states such as Turkey and Ukraine will be impractical. A country can't be a member of both the EU and this new proposed union, because the EU laws doesn't permit any such overlap. And since the main purpose is to counter Russia, I don't think that countries such as Turkey and Bulgaria would show much interest. They are careful not to antagonize Putin.
9439  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: August 28, 2021, 03:10:17 AM
It was a low scoring match. 6 run was needed from the last over. I thought Ireland will win the game without showing much effort. But they have lost it. Zimbabwean bowler has done pretty well in that condition. BTW, I was expecting a big score match. I placed bet on number of fours and sixes in that match. My expectation was higher and the boundaries count was less than my selection. However, the match was enjoyable.

The performance from Ireland was not up to the mark. Their young players are unable to handle the pressure and the batting remains heavily dependent on Paul Stirling. And after the opening partnership between Paul Stirling and Kevin O'Brien was broken, none of the other batsmen apart from Simi Singh could get to double figures. Andy Balbirnie performed well against Netherlands and South Africa recently, but he failed this time. A lot was talked about Curtis Campher, but he also disappointed everyone.
9440  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: August 28, 2021, 03:00:48 AM
It is a good comeback for India they have lost only two wickets and are now trailing by just 139 runs. Pujara is on 91 and I am sure he will score his century on day 4. India has to utilize day 4 completely if they want to win this match. The chance of wining is bleak but there is no harm in giving a try.

LOL.. you really believe that India has a chance to win the match? India still trails by 139 runs and there is still some doubt whether they will be able to avoid follow on. Yesterday was a good day for India. The English captain was so frustrated that he decided to bowl himself. But things may change today. Both the batsmen at crease (Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli) have struggled to get runs recently and a good spell from any one of the England pacers may create trouble for them. And the remaining batsmen also have been in poor form.
