9501  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum still safe on Windows 7 OS, after Microsoft support ends? on: January 28, 2020, 08:27:45 AM
Electrum itself will not have any problem, unless sometime in the future some newer libraries may be required.

But Windows 7 vulnerabilities may be patched a little bit slower, if at all.
If they do use the computer more than only for Electrum, but I think that they should think seriously to alternatives in max one year.

For Electrum only, booting from an USB stick with Tails can provide a safer environment (just the user may have to enter the seed at each and every boot).
9502  Economy / Services / Re: Need help with software-giving reward on: January 27, 2020, 09:19:29 PM
I don't think that such a tool exists.
But there should be tools that can do something pretty close to what you want. You can record the operations and then run them how many times (and wherever) you want. If this is also good, it should be easy to find such a software, since it's sometimes used in automated testing.

If I am a Mexican will try my luck by buying more tickets that I can

25$ is still some money and it's a raffle, so there's also the (quite big) chance you lose all that money.
Imho "buying more tickets that I can" is not the way to go. Like in every type of gambling, moderation is the key: don't force your luck by putting in more money than you afford to lose.
9505  Economy / Speculation / Re: Corona Virus will Impact the price of Bitcoin ? on: January 27, 2020, 11:08:28 AM
This Corona virus is mostly infected in China, so don't worry about the price of Bitcoin, Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies will have no effect, unless the cryptocurrency was born from China you have to be aware of, it could be that the project is affected

Actually the entire world is kinda panicked now. And when panicked people tend to make "safe deposits".
The gold price is on the rise and specialists say that's because of the virus/panic. And I wouldn't be surprised if Bitcoin starts doing the same, especially as the last week was not so great.

No. They just waste time and money.

Hi, if you guys are interested, since I want to increase my portfolio, I can make the Romanian translation for your ANN for free.
I applied through the form, but I didn't know where to add this, there was no "extra notes" area  Smiley
9508  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Overview of trusted/recommended Translators on: January 27, 2020, 09:12:30 AM
As a late addition, I finally made a doc with my portfolio. It's not big, I know.

And I am also available to make a few (Romanian) translations for free, to increase the portfolio a little with something newer than 2017.

Edit:
I have just added you to the list. Welcome and good luck. Smiley

Many thanks.
9509  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Opinion: PoW Will Always Be Criticized for Inefficiency on: January 27, 2020, 08:36:43 AM
While some believe that only Proof-of-Work can underpin a real cryptocurrency, others think that its time passed long ago, and now it’s time for other algorithms like Proof-of-Stake.

This is wrong and anybody with a tiny sense of reality knows that.
PoW is the proper way. Satoshi has thought on it well. PoS is a system to make the rich richer with low/no effort.
The electricity is always in the top of discussion. The "haters" consider it a waste. But is it? Are you sure? I don't agree. And there's always a comparison. There's always some waste and I believe that people should start identifying the places there's electricity (and coal, and oil, ...) wasted for real. I'm sure they can find plenty of them.
9510  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Posting on BitcoinTalk: how do I know when my post is "too long"? on: January 27, 2020, 08:11:30 AM
As long as the post is on subject (doesn't digress much) and it's well formatted, interested people will read it. Don't worry too much.
Of course, the better the formatting, the easier it is to read and it won't feel too long.

I seriously don't want to live on this planet any more.

Oooo! You're Agent Smith! https://youtu.be/JrBdYmStZJ4?t=196
Now, just a small exercise of imagination: if some humans can trigger this reaction from you, what you expect to see when you'll meet aliens?  Grin
9512  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Transaction in PENDING STATUS ?? on: January 27, 2020, 07:46:21 AM
If you are having problems like this, I suggest increasing your TX fees so you could get your transactions confirmed faster.

Johoe's site shows rather empty mempool for last night, so it should not be a fee problem (unless somebody did something fishy/less than the recommended minimum).
OP should recheck the status, maybe also check if his Electrum is online/connected.
9513  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Win a Presidential plane... on: January 27, 2020, 07:37:28 AM
I have seen this news in a well-known media, about the plans of AMLO, Mexico who want to sell the presidential jet by raffle (lottery), in bandrol at a price of US $ 25/sheet, The weirdest thing to me is that this lottery has been auctioned for almost a year, but no one has been interested in buying the plane yet.

This is a strange event for me, even though Mexico is a country that has a successful businessman.

When this news was released many people in Mexico did not believe it, alias the president was joking, but in reality this is true for those who won the Boeing 787 Dreamliner can take it home.

The maintenance and parking for such an airplane costs a small fortune. It's all proportional with the size and age. I think that this is the reason business men didn't hurry buy it. They can get cheaper, newer, smaller aircraft.
If the raffle is a success, they get more money than a sale or auction would have got. And the new owner will have to sell it too (because of the maintenance), but this time he can afford to sell it very cheap.

I don't think that this was mentioned, but I think that the odds of winning are much better than the typical lottery.
9514  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2020-01-13] This Key Data Point Shows Bitcoin Took A Huge Step Forward In 2019 on: January 26, 2020, 07:46:01 PM
No, you are not wrong, in my opinion. I agree that the word threat should better be replaced with competition because it sounds more polite this way.

I think that there may be some other subtle differences too, but I am not good enough to express them. Or maybe it's only in my head.

However, just for fun, consider the following. Imagine a woman saying to her sister about another woman, she just found out her husband is chatting with: "I don't see her as a threat. Rather, she's just a competition."

L.M.A.O. !

I mean, we, all of us, we are married to banks, in a way. And they are very sensitive about our loyalty.

I beg to differ. At least in my country they don't move a finger to help you in order to gain you as customer, nor care much if you stay or leave. At least if you are a small fish.
So it's usually your (first) employer that will be the one choosing the bank for you (and only because of the employer the bank may offer some benefits/special packages over time).
9515  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Myetherwallet(Mew) Site: Previous version is better than current version ? on: January 25, 2020, 05:40:27 PM
I've used MEW many years ago... and today.
Honestly, I didn't find what I was looking for and I'll probably try another wallet.
The old version I remember was more straightforward.

Edit 2020-01-27: Today I had a second look on MEW. I've finally found what I needed. So it does have all the expected functionality. (However, I still don't like its new design/structure).
9516  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Google ads misleading people. on: January 25, 2020, 05:34:33 PM
Never assume that someone will protect you because you are the one who can save yourself from any trouble.

You can use an ad blocker to avoid this kind of trouble.

..and with this you just assumed the ad blocker will save you always (meaning it will work perfectly every time)
This can be seen as quite a contradiction  Smiley

I don't deny the usefulness of a good browser and a good ad blocker. But the users also have to learn to keep their eyes open.
(Hence I find useful to have eye opener threads like this now and then.)
9517  Other / Meta / Re: Another merit metric that could be considered in ranking. on: January 25, 2020, 05:27:44 PM
Why do you assume off-topic posts are non-intelligent and useless? Knowing that most sig campaign threads I've seen do not count Offtopic and P&S posts, spammers & merit farmers will probably stay farther from Offtopic than from the Mining section for example.

Merit shouldn't be disabled for Offtopic and P&S imo. Although it's "BitcoinTalk" and Offtopic, of course, has topics unrelated to BTC, if an user wants to support a member's idea they should be able to give them a merit as a "thank you for writing this post".

Somehow instead of trying to get what I mean, you always try to get something against my posts lately.
I must have been done something wrong against you?  Wink

Joke aside, my point was that those could be examples because they are not necessarily Bitcoin related.
Also my point was that there can be also in those subforums posts which deserve merits (hence the wording about intelligent and useful posts!!!)
I also said that overall the idea (of not meriting all subforums) is not so good ("questionable")

Clearer now?

Edit: Probably my wording could have been better indeed. I'm happy we are on same page now.
9518  Other / Meta / Re: Another merit metric that could be considered in ranking. on: January 25, 2020, 03:17:26 PM
This could work only partly, in a way like the subforums where's no signature shown: some certain areas (Off-Topic, P&S, name it) which are for chit chat and not really Bitcoin related could be a target for "no merit areas".
But even that would be somewhat questionable, since also there can happen to exist intelligent and useful posts.
9519  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2020-01-13] This Key Data Point Shows Bitcoin Took A Huge Step Forward In 2019 on: January 25, 2020, 11:36:22 AM
"Bitcoin is no threat for banks" is not not untrue. Or, what am I missing here?

Bitcoin will most probably not replace banks, at least in the near future. This means that they are not a threat.
Of course that Bitcoin is a competitor. But banks compete each other too and the ones that don't do a good business (also meaning that they evolve) will not survive (although this usually means they are bought by other banks).
So in the same way I don't say that banks are a threat to banks (only competition), in the same way I say that Bitcoin is not a threat to banks.
Am I wrong?
9520  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Hackers and their use of mixing services on: January 25, 2020, 06:02:23 AM
Mixers are also businesses, like the exchanges.
Nothing stops them from an arrangement to not mix stolen coins.
Of course I don't know if this exists, nobody will confirm that.
