9561  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [2020-01-20] Will Binance create the Japanese exchange? on: January 20, 2020, 09:45:53 AM
They will have to get compliant. Japan is not Malta. And most probably they'll have to drop privacy-oriented coins (unfortunately).
Maybe there will be other problems too they have to adapt to. We'll see. It should worth it though, Japan is a powerful market.
9562  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Lost BTC in hard drive failure, still have to pay taxes? on: January 20, 2020, 07:59:42 AM
I still don't understand why all these people pay taxes for btc.

Pretty much having the fear of alerting the IRS(one way or another) and having them knocking on your door; which is a very reasonable 'fear' to have if you ask me.

No, he does have a point: OK, for what we change into fiat, it may be somewhat reasonable to pay taxes. But for the Bitcoin in the wallets...?
On the other hand, as long as the private key/seed can be stored on a piece of paper, the HDD can be broken 1000 times and the coins are actually not lost. So it's not really the best possible proof / story.
9563  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best methods for sending BTC with low fees? on: January 19, 2020, 07:11:55 PM
Question: is GreenAddress Wallet still good? I used to use their service back in 2016 but stopped when some problem arose. and I was thinking of using it again
since their recent reviews are fine.

Unfortunately I've never used it, so I can't tell.
However, I recommend you install only wallets from the official list, so you can reduce the chance for "surprises": https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet
9564  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: My personal challenge: $1,000 to $1 Million on: January 19, 2020, 07:00:10 PM
It's a very ambitious plan.
I have a few questions though, since the ones that may be following this find this useful (maybe you should even put it onto your website).
1. Do you have any trading background / experience (crypto, forex, stocks)?
2. Do you use trading and/or arbitrage bots?

I'd like to also warn you that you should use at least 2 different ways of trading, and/or not trade always "all in" because the bigger fluctuations may make you lose everything. Of course, if you have big experience you know this very well.

Good luck and happy fishing  Wink
9565  Economy / Speculation / Re: Have we been entertained? on: January 19, 2020, 12:24:30 PM
On my study and analysis, I discovered that the bull runs like four years interval, and with this too,if you observe it is planning to confirm my analysis. Now, all the news about baktt advances breaking and all the likes, are they just crypto-drama or arranged news to keep us busy and entertained?

2 major loops/bubbles are far from enough to be certain about a rule.

Bakkt.. is just another company. Of course they have paid for some news here and there to increase awareness. There's also the possibility that some big players may have been also using Bakkt news (and all ETF related news) now and then to influence the price in their favor.

If you are trading wannabe you'll be very busy. If you are long time holder you'll get entertained or maybe bored.
Whatever you choose, make sure you understand that too much stress is not good for health  Wink (hence I'd go for HODLing if one affords it, but keep in mind that this is a speculation thread)
9566  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best methods for sending BTC with low fees? on: January 19, 2020, 09:51:40 AM
1. Use a wallet where you can control everything. Electrum is a good option.
2. Consolidate your inputs. If you have 0.1 BTC in your wallet and it's made of 100 inputs of 0.001 each, you'll pay more than if you have it "in one piece".
3. Making SegWit transactions (from SegWit address to SegWit address) will also reduce the tx fee.
4. Patience also helps. If you are not in a hurry, even a 1 sat/vbyte transaction should get confirmed, just it may take much longer.

9568  Economy / Economics / Re: Winklevoss-Led Gemini Exchange Now Has Its Own Insurance Company on: January 18, 2020, 10:40:00 PM
And here's Gemini simultaneously coming up with the world's stupidest idea - https://twitter.com/Gemini/status/1218299327006810114

Who doesn't want to purchase Gemini's dollar with dollars to spend Gemini dollars in a handful of locations?

Awesome.

It's easy to create tokens. It's much harder to fool enough people into buying them.

They want to get where Tether is. But they are doing it wrong. I think that they just don't have enough patience.
9569  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Fastest way to Download bitcoin blockchain data on: January 18, 2020, 08:30:00 PM
If you want to just download fast the blockchain, no, it won't be faster. It has to be checked. Bootstrap was retired years ago exactly because of this.

All your can do is to help your wallet process the data faster. For that you need fast internet, good CPU, fast storage, hence my previous answer.
.
9570  Economy / Economics / Re: Winklevoss-Led Gemini Exchange Now Has Its Own Insurance Company on: January 18, 2020, 08:19:49 PM
But I will still wonder if this path leads to even more centralization in terms of coin hoarding (BTC) on crypto-exchanges?

I don't think it'll change much. Users already keep huge amounts of crypto in centralized exchanges, for various reasons, because most are thinking about hack that "it will not happen to me".
And insurance services offered by companies that understand crypto are needed imho.
Of course, some (like Binance) seems to do this more or less internally. So the question is indeed: will the twins "sell" this service or only use it for their own exchange?
9571  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Fastest way to Download bitcoin blockchain data on: January 18, 2020, 08:02:26 PM
I think that the bottleneck could be the disk. You are saving to a HDD, right?
If you have a SSD by chance, close the app (and make sure it's closed), move the data folder to the SSD, make a symlink there and fire it up again. And when you are sync-ed, move the data back where you want it to be.
(Of course back up the sensitive data)
9572  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Bitcoin SV drops 40% as lawyer admits craig wright has no private keys on: January 18, 2020, 07:29:13 PM
The drop is reasonable because the coin was manipulated a couple of days back right after Craig admitted to the court demand.

After that manipulation and with this kind of news, the drop is not even big. Yet.

What comes next?
The coin will precisely vaporize if Craig cant provide genuine evidence.

Actually I won't be surprised if CSW would pull out of the hat another "evidence", maybe after the lawsuit ends. It's the way he operated in the last few years, I don't expect him to stop.
9573  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 18, 2020, 07:23:02 PM
I dont understand what fight bears are fighting? We will pass $9k so why not just let it happen?

Because up-and-down-and-up-and-down make traders rich?
9574  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Things needed for people getting started with crypto on: January 18, 2020, 03:03:53 PM
i think the price of dogecoin is way more cheap than bitcoin now, and i dont think you will buy dogecoin now
Indeed, now I would use testnet.

My point was that one doesn't necessarily have to invest first into Bitcoin. That can come later, or not at all.
Bitcoin is not only an investment.
9575  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Bitcoin will rise as EU cash payments fall on: January 17, 2020, 02:26:59 PM
A lot of the arguments from the elderly seem to be based on really naive views like smartphones are too expensive etc. Sure, a brand new iPhone might be but you can get a decent smart phone for hardly anything these days. Cash is a dinosaur really and it is going to extinct whether people like it or not. It's only a matter of time and fighting it is futile.

You are right. But that "matter of time" is actually the time needed for "a new generation of elderly people" replace the current one.
The "expensive phone" is indeed a fake problem. Many of them receive for free their kids' 2 year old phone.
Imho the real problem the elderly people have is that the technology is "strange" for many of them. My mom is afraid of using her debit card (!), I simply cannot expect from her to pay with the phone at a shop.
9576  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 17, 2020, 01:00:59 PM
I was thinking more like 10k today before the futures market closes, then a bit of a retrace back to mid 9k to create a gap in the futures above us. After the weekend ends sending it to the moon while at the same time closing the gap

How does that sound for a plan?

I'd speculate that it could make us an interesting 10k surprise during the week-end, but then it'll have go back to lower values (under 8k) until the Chinese New Year festivities end.
9577  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 17, 2020, 10:21:36 AM
Not for the contest, just a happy screenshot showing Bitcoin was > 9k

9578  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Things needed for people getting started with crypto on: January 17, 2020, 09:56:35 AM
I also don't agree with the first point "Small amount of bitcoin to get started".

In my early days in crypto I played with Dogecoin. There are 2 great things about Dogecoin: it is very similar to Bitcoin and it's extremely cheap.

Now I know an even better option: testnet. Testnet coins are for free (you can easily google for working testnet faucets) and some of the well known Bitcoin wallets work with testnet (they need special parameters though).
The idea is: instead of investing money in order to get started with Bitcoin, one can start even for free.

Also it should be in the list: whenever in doubt search, especially at http://bitcoin.org/ and http://bitcointalk.org/ and if not found ask for help.
9579  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ideas for a new Bitcoin name? on: January 17, 2020, 09:05:50 AM
If you plan to make another coin, I'd really love to see you don't use Bitcoin name in it. Too many altcoins were made with Bitcoin in their name only to fool newbies into buying it.

This being said, the name can be either something related to its differences/new features you didn't disclose (FastCoin, AnonyCoin) or, even better, find some catchy name not containing "coin" in it, like Ethereum, Monero or Dash have. You know Dollar, Pound, Yen, ... they don't need "coin" in their name and we all know what they are. Make a proper new brand (name).
9580  Other / Off-topic / Re: your internet costs and income on: January 16, 2020, 07:03:27 PM
~

we basically pay almost exact amount but my access is just about 2Mbps. i got used to how slow my internet now after all it still can access exchanges. its still considered cheap in my country.  i can use my smartphone which is much cheaper that could only cost about $10 month but its just going to be me that will access it. $10 is affordable for someone who earns online.

if you earn from cryptocurrency and pay your internet access with the money you get in crypto, you might wanna try your mobile devices as its cheap.

At home I consume more than 2GB/month, so giving up the internet at home to keep only mobile doesn't worth it.
And I do use the mobile. Both packages are cheap as long as one has an income - it doesn't matter if it's from crypto or not. I am not sure I understand your point...
