961  Local / Off-Topic (India) / Re: Bengaluru based start-up is converting black money to bitcoin on: October 10, 2015, 01:22:13 PM
Black bitcoin? haven't heard of it before.

what does it means black bitcoin, in my view i think the bitcoins which got seized in the name of silk route from the users , he is telling about them.

You guys really didn't read the article, did you?  Wink

It is a fake article meant to be taken as a joke.
Please shift this to off-topic to avoid confusion.

Yup, this is an old satire article.
I guess shifting it to India --> Off topic would remove some confusion.
962  Local / Marketplace (India) / Re: I want to sell Bitcoin on: October 07, 2015, 02:16:34 AM
is this your price Rs 15,700/- is fix rate or you charge according to the market price at the transaction time. minimum how much are you going to sell, like 0.001 btc will you sell

INR 15,700 will be a steal considering the price movement over the last 2 days.
I doubt if the OP would be willing to sell 0.001 BTC, given that he wants to trade ~5BTC/day.
963  Local / India / Re: how would sending bitcoins abroad come under law? on: October 07, 2015, 02:09:35 AM
If someone from India were to send bitcoins to obtain service from a person from another country or to buy something from a company abroad like overstock how would it come into the law?

if we are to treat bit coin is an asset, it would not come under FEMA, right?

could it violate any other law?

This goes back to the currency vs commodity debate.
If it is treated as a currency, then it will come under FEMA.

Fumbling in the darknet

http://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/bangalore/fumbling-in-the-darknet/article7709137.ece

The city police have hit a dead-end with the probe into the case of three engineering students buying and selling narcotics off the dark web.

All attempts to track down the sellers yielded no results. Joint Commissioner (Crime) M. Chandra Sekhar said that the three students were just the tip of the iceberg, but attempts to unmask others had hit a roadblock.

Another challenge that the city police faced in the recent drug bust case was the use of bitcoins, the favoured crypto currency of the darknet. “Money can’t always be virtual. There has to be an interface where bitcoins are converted to currency in the real world. We tried to establish that interface, but again hit a dead end,” said Mr. Chandra Sekhar.
966  Local / India / Re: Bitcoin Patna Meetup on: October 05, 2015, 12:53:20 AM
Hi

Can i know what was the result of the Meetup, how was the response and how many members attended, because i am also thinking of doing meetups in my area. please share you experience here.

3 people attended, they had never heard about bitcoin before. It was just the basic introduction about bitcoin. I distributed paper wallets and demonstrated use of address and private key, through mycelium. One person was interested about low transaction fee remittances from abroad. I explained him the current bitcoin exchange options.

It is a start. Smiley
Let us hope those 3 people start healthy discussions about Bitcoin in their circles.
Were they given Zebpay vouchers?

Bitcoin flounders in Australia as regulatory worries bite

http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/international/business/bitcoin-flounders-in-australia-as-regulatory-worries-bite/articleshow/49213575.cms

Australian businesses are turning their backs on bitcoin, as signs grow that the cryptocurrency's mainstream appeal is fading.

Concerns about bitcoin's potential crime links mean many businesses have stopped accepting it, a trend accelerated by Australian banks' move last month to close the accounts of 13 of the country's 17 bitcoin exchanges.

968  Local / India / Re: Bitcoin Users Of Maharashtra Read Me. on: October 03, 2015, 12:21:03 AM
Difficulty has increased much, mining at home would not be feasible, due high electricity cost and requirement of huge initial investment for mining hardware.

Is there any recent analysis available on the viability of cloud mining contracts?
Or should I avoid them like the plague?
969  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-10-01] Bitcoin Websites Blocked by Venezuelan Government on: October 03, 2015, 12:19:37 AM
According to Coindesk it is a DNS server issue, not a government blockage: http://www.coindesk.com/bitcoin-websites-experience-service-outage-in-venezuela/

Was the DNS server issue restricted to bitcoin websites? That seems to be fishy.
The positives from this are that the government will know the negative reaction that they will face in case they try to block bitcoin-related sites.

London would be the automatic first choice for entry, given its position as the finance capital of Europe.
They will have to navigate through regulatory hurdles for each country, in Europe. Won't be easy.

974  Local / India / Re: How you guys are mentioning earning from bitcoin in ITR filing ? on: October 01, 2015, 12:17:55 AM
At the time of ITR filing, there is no option to mention bitcoin either. Better report it as a digital asset selling, but keep a track to yourself, so that, in case of any enquiry, you may show the actual bitcoin tx for sales.

There is a debate on whether it should be declared as foreign assets.

976  Local / India / Re: Declaration of Bitcoin Holdings on: September 26, 2015, 08:20:16 AM
When Bitcoin use becomes more widespread I think governments in general will be at a great disadvantage in trying to police and regulate it because of its decentralized nature.

Yes. Even now, where they have a hold is the exchanges; where bitcoin to fiat and fiat to bitcoin conversion takes place. If bitcoin were to circulate around in the economy, they might have a tough time.
977  Local / Marketplace (India) / Re: Want to buy BTC for Paypal ( No scam f2f ) on: September 26, 2015, 08:17:00 AM
I want to buy lot BTC with PP , If you think that i will scam you in PP trade then you are welcome to take my identity proof + i will welcome face 2 face deal also in delhi.

I have lot PP stock daily thats why i only buy with  PP

The problem is, id proofs don't seem to be of any help in BTC scams.
Have a look at all the reputation threads.
There are people whose names, phone numbers, bank account details are known.... and yet they end up scamming.
978  Local / Press & News from India / [2015-09-23] BL: What is a bitcoin, after all? on: September 24, 2015, 01:42:09 AM
http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/opinion/columns/what-is-a-bitcoin-after-all/article7681809.ece

What is a bitcoin, after all?

I remember this one! It’s a kind of digital currency that no one knows who invented.
Not bad.

Oh, wait! I also know bitcoins are notorious for wild price swings; that they became infamous a while ago as the currency used for buying drugs online.
Even better.

So why are we talking about bitcoin now?
Because, it’s back in the news.
979  Local / India / Re: Declaration of Bitcoin Holdings on: September 24, 2015, 01:28:13 AM
there seems to be a lot of lack of clarity regarding the whole legal scenario. it would be good if someone clarified this once and for all (all the possible outcomes of using bit coins and their likelihood).

And who better to do this than the government?  Wink
This FAQ has raised more questions than it answered.

laws here being retrospective or not is a general question that is not quite specific to bticoins. Smiley

Nope, that is not the question which has been raised.
There are multiple others, relating to bitcoins in specific.
The government will look into it / issue clarifications, once bitcoin becomes widespread.
980  Local / Press & News from India / Re: [2015-09-21] ToI: What is Bitcoin? The debate rages on on: September 23, 2015, 01:15:02 AM
an unfriendly development

Debate is good. It is better that this debate is settled in the relatively early years. If this festers on, it could be a problem.
I would love to see a debate like this in India as well.
