My opinion is that documentation is often better when non-devs contribute to it.
Not because developers are always bad at writing docs, but because someone with an external look, who does not share the developer's implicit goals, can provide better explanations

 Thats right!

Same applies to the concept of "change" addresses. Those familar with how Bitcoin works may know that it is. For the other users, some carefully chosen words of explanation would make the big difference in user experience. Note that, if I understand correctly, the concept of a separate set of change addresses is not a necessity of the bitcoin protocol as such. It is just an implementation variant (also chosen by the satoshi client if I understand correctly) to make tracking of bitcoin flows a little bit more difficult to track. But in principle I could use any address in my wallet, possibly also the paying address itself (?), as change address for a payment.

A small and comprehensible tutorial for to the "normal" user (PDF, 3-4 pages) would be really helpful.

Is there a "freeze" and a "prioritize" command (for the console)?
Is it possible to prioritize a change address?

I feel very happy about this new features  Tongue

What I dont catch yet is the use and interaction of frozen and prioritized addresses. E.g. what happens if an addr. is simultaneously frozen and prioritized?
A short tutorial about this features would be helpful.

975  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I'm new to Bitcoins and can't seem to buy any... on: May 31, 2012, 09:50:59 AM
Hello!
Could someone help me? I am a beginner.  4 days ago I got a wallet on Instawallet. org and this wallet had certain Bitcoin adress  for receiving money. I gave that adress to Financial Company, exchanging currency, to transfere some money in Bitcoins to this wallet. They transfered money 11 hours ago and I checked this transaction on  Bitcoin Charts and blockchain.info.  This transaction has been completed. But when I get into my wallet I find that "Balance -0 Bitcoins"  and I see that Bitcoin adress for receiving money has changed. Why is that? Can I do something about that?

Feel free to use this one: https://www.instawallet.org/w/C2dIGoVrXbaaEe6DZgEPYx1IzjvN4OCUw  Cheesy

But regardless, you should always see the correct global balance in the GUI.

Yes, I can see the total balance but not in detail, i.e. the amounts of the change addr are not displayed in the gui.
Say a user imports some vanity addresses: 1customer1xxxxxxxxx, 1customer2xxxxxxxxx, 1customer3xxxxxxxxx, etc and for some reason he has to send a partial amount back to a customer, than he needs to see the remaining (partial) balance in the client (gui). For this purpose, it would be useful to get the change amount back to the source address.

I also think that it would be very useful to see the balance of the change addr in the gui (it could be marked in some way for a better distinction).

If you really handle each transaction manually, you will have your hands full.
980  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Minimal Electrum builds for Windows XP & 7 on: May 25, 2012, 06:49:04 AM
Do you know if there is a way to avoid the sending to a random change address? As the change addr is not listed in the gui, you can't see the correct balance after a transaction, you always have to check it with the commands (console).
It would be great if the user could determine his own change address (in the gui), eg. the source addr.
