29 lower case letters in a row. Only two uppers and the prefix of 1.

Really impressive!
Again, please sign something with it so I can add it to the collection - otherwise it doesn't
make it any different than something like 1BitcoinEaterAddressDontSendf59kuE (which is a
valid address but wasn't "generated" - nobody has the private key for it, see top post)

I'll sign it eventually, already planned on it. Just have to muster up the effort to put the private key in a hot wallet and sign it. Guess I don't even have to do that, could just import it into a virtual machine, sign and destroy the box. Still a lot to muster.

When it comes to ASIC miners. What would be your preference?

Already manufactured and in stock for shipping.

lol. The ASIC chips don't need the bandwidth that a PCI-E slot has to offer. I like good old USB. I have a potential of running multiple miners off a credit card size $30 Raspberry pi computer. That's not a lot of space needed. For a 4U size, I could run hundreds of GH/s in that space with a pi or two. Mine aren't going in racks, so the pros of standalone aren't needed for me.

It looks like they are pegged to the US dollar. You could think of it as an itunes balance.

Please only vote once per person (so if you have multiple accounts please only vote using one of them!)

lol

I use disposable emails for registering on forums and so when I don't have access or remember what that address was I can't recover passwords. Forgot my password so created a new account a while ago.
967  Economy / Securities / Re: S.DICE - SatoshiDICE 100% Dividend-Paying Asset on MPEx on: February 05, 2013, 04:12:59 PM
Wow... lot's of antagonism to the cheap offering of shares last night. I must say I'm quite shocked at the response.

To everyone who's pissed because I "halved the value of your shares overnight" - you have a seriously deluded understanding of value. The value of the shares didn't change. All that changed was the price - I offered shares cheaply, so anyone who knows the value of the shares instantly profits, period. If you don't really know the value of these shares, or if you aren't confident in the market price around .007, then you shouldn't be invested in the first place, period. If you are so insecure about some people offering shares cheaper than you, then you should not be invested at the price you are, period.

The value of SD shares is based on the dividend earnings of the site. That is the only reason they have fundamental value, because they earn income (this is the only ultimate reason any stock has value). Me releasing some shares far below market price doesn't change the dividend earnings of the site, and thus does not affect the value of your shares.

Let's do a thought experiment...

If it's wrong of me to release shares at a discount, then it must be really wrong of me to give shares away for a very huge discount, or perhaps even for free.

So tomorrow if I say, I'll give out 1% of SD for free. Would the critics here condemn me for making their shares suddenly "worthless" as being given away at a price of zero?  Anyone who knows the value of the shares, should be thrilled, because now they have the opportunity to acquire them for free! Or, in the real-world case of yesterday, to acquire them for a large discount.

I don't mean to sound harsh, but honestly if you do not understand the point that I'm making here - that a person giving away shares below market price is offering a gift to anyone who understands the correct value behind them - then you should not be an investor in S.DICE.

There were a few people who discussed with me on IRC their concerns about the move, in a mature way, and I appreciate their feedback.

Also, it seems some people don't understand whether this is "dilution" which is a fair question and I'll address it plainly:

There was no dilution. 100m shares existed from the IPO date originally. 10m of these were on MPEX before yesterday, now 11m are. Each 1m of shares represents 1% of SD earnings. So the new shares do not harm anyone's earnings, whatsoever. The only difference is that now MPEX owners get 11% of earnings instead of 10%.

A share that earned 1 btc of dividends before now earns 1 btc of dividends.

I'll take as many free dividend earning shares as you would like to give away. lol

Can we get a SCHEDULE for the next 4 tranches? or will they be done spontaneously as well "sometime in the future" ?

That's the only thing I would actually like to know. Doesn't need to be a schedule, just give us an idea? Found out about the first group too late.

968  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: A uni-student from Romania is claiming to have 107 ASIC units for sale at 85 GHs on: February 05, 2013, 03:54:45 PM
LOL.. Ask for video or photos..

He said in the OP that he already did.

I sent them a formal email basically saying "pics and vids or it didn't happen"

At least some thought and effort went into the scam. BTC Guild has a feature if you contact them where you can verify an ASIC machine. Not only would some good photos be good, a proof that it can hash the crap out of SHA256 would be great. I could easily put together a PCB board and and take photos of it with some worthless chips on it. That wouldn't prove that it would boot or hash anything.

If this person really used their own funds and developed this, they would have zero incentive to not be mining with them right now. They have no customers and no obligation not to.
969  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why Governments will love Bitcoin. on: February 05, 2013, 03:45:48 PM
Interesting theory. I have a follow up question though. Say the US of A decided to ditch banks move to Bitcoin. How do you do that the "right" way? Or at least, what is your right way to make such a transition?
This has been discussed many times. Personally, I would trade some of my Bitcoin wealth for land in Malibu, though it would probably only buy a parking space for an RV.

"Governments will love Bitcoin and stuff."

"But how?"

"This has been discussed many times."

WTF?! Then why start a thread if you don't want to actually discuss the OP topic?
The OP was not about how governments would adopt Bitcoin. It was about why they would replace central banks with Bitcoin. The how is easy. They can mine and trade Bitcoin just like the rest of us. There's not much to discuss about that. The real issue that needs discussion is convincing governments why they should embrace Bitcoin for future peace and prosperity.

I think the larger hurdle would be the explanation of how to appropriately adopt them. That needs to be easy or I don't think convincing them to embrace it would be easy. If Bitcoin is the cure for the disease, mass adoption is part of the answer. If you're merely suggesting the government register a Mt Gox account and start mining along with a large group of nerds, I don't see how that frees them from the Federal Reserve. Grandma at that point still cannot accept her Social Security check in Bitcoins.

Don't get me wrong though. I think Bitcoin not only can fix money, I think as a global economy, we have to have something like Bitcoin to free the world from corrupt governments manipulation in a global environment. Just was prying you for some more of your thought because your opening statement was eloquent.

971  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Trying to gauge victims of potential WalletBit class action on: February 04, 2013, 03:09:57 PM
We sure have a lot of Internet Lawyers here. I didn't know they abounded in such quantity on BitcoinTalk. Good to know.

your chances of having a "class action" suit registered against something that's at best registered as an LLC are...wait for it...no, seriously, wait for it...are you still waiting for it? Stop waiting for it you dumb fuck, it ain't happening. Read up on what it takes for class action status already.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Class_action

MPOE-PR, you can class action your parents if you had enough people in the suit. The entire point of a class action are to take a group of victims against a single party. An LLC registered business would be no different than a corporation, sole proprietorship, or any solo person being sued individually. If done right, an LLC can shield the assets of the owners and there would be nothing to be awarded. That still doesn't mean you can't sue them. What you're saying is funny.

What I do think they should offer a token of compensation for is the leaking of our personal data to other parties.
Not to impressed with that.

Yes, not cool. I voiced this concern from the the get go, but having an action against them on this one, would a much more difficult target. Avalon is overseas. Then to have enough damages to get a class registered, well there weren't that many people trying to get into batch 2. Very possibly, there weren't 1000 people trying to get into batch 2.

However, PM's are few and far between. No one wants to announce this publicly, which is fine. Feel free to PM me if you want to discuss anything further, but at this point, this is closed.

973  Economy / Scam Accusations / Trying to gauge victims of potential WalletBit class action on: February 03, 2013, 03:23:28 PM
For those that participated in the adventures yesterday trying to get into the Avalon batch #2 preorder, there were all kinds of fun things that happened. I consulted with an attorney yesterday about bring a class action about the matter. After much discussion, although Avalon had screw ups on their part, a suit against them isn't as easy or would be something the attorney would be very interested in. However, the details surrounding WalletBit's duties and breeches, along with potential losses from users is much more real and something the attorney would consider taking on contingency depending on the size of the class.

So, not as an offer of legal advice or promise of representation, how many people are there that made it through the shopping cart, to WalletBit and ended up paying a small amount? The attorney likes the fact that Avalon push a valid token to WalletBit for the correct USD, and WalletBit showed a small amount, usually just a couple of USD to pay. They have now said that instead of honoring those payments or requesting the rest of the dollar amount that they are instead only refunding those amounts.

The goal as part of the class action would be, A, you made a payment of a smaller amount to get in on the preorder. And B, because of the refund, you then fail on round 2 part 2 to get into Avalon's batch 2. The damages against WalletBit would be for loss mining revenue due to increased difficulty by getting a later order. Although difficult to calculate, attorney's always seem to come up with a number.

The potentially also as part of the suit, would be those that made it to WalletBit, and did not send an incorrect low USD value of BTC because it was obviously wrong. These cases would be harder to prove and things like screenshots may be helpful in being included in the class.

The attorney would like to see a class size of at least 1,000 people. Maybe that is a realistic number, maybe not. If you would post that you're interested or send me a private message let's just see where we are at. Obviously everyone that tried won't post or private message but we will be able to subpoena their records to get the full client transactions but I'm not entirely sure if those include name and addresses on WalletBit's side or not. The way that Bitcoin works will surely make this interesting.

The other thing is if the class size is only around 500 and those 500 people all are able to get into batch #2 still, they wouldn't be part of the class.

I'm sad how things happened, and have ignored ASIC's as much as I could until I saw that Jeff had one in his hands. Now I've got mining fever again!
974  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Avalon ASIC] Batch #2 pre-Sale Thread on: February 02, 2013, 04:07:00 PM
The analogy was for point 1. Point 2 is just retarded, it's happened already, but how could they now make it right?

Also, that's a fuckup, not a scam. There's a difference.

The problem is, whenever they decide to do another do over and preorder again I might not be available. I have placed a pre order and paid, and they need to honor it, not come up with excuses and try again. Yes, they fucked up, and they need to fix it.

It's fine to put people's personal information out there? Post it all over the forums too? That sure seems like what bitcoin is all about. My apologies for my confusion on that.
975  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Avalon ASIC] Batch #2 pre-Sale Thread on: February 02, 2013, 03:58:14 PM
Absolutely wrong.

Checked out from my information just fine and walletbit has issues. Problem #1.
Other people may have my name and home address, phone and email? Problem #2.

Avalon needs to fix this.

Otherwise, they need a scammer tag. I have been scammed by them this morning unless they make things right.

Seriously? Do you call the police when the grocery store is out of milk or the cashier gives you the wrong change?

Do you smack yourself in the face when you realize what you posted isn't even the same thing?

Would I call the police if the grocery store gave some other customer in line my personal information? Probably not, but I would expect them to make things right. Just like I expect Avalon to make things right or they are scammers. STFU

I have to say, I'm kinda glad I didn't send any coins as I suspect there are going to be "I paid for someone else's order" issues.

Well, as long as someone paid for mine, I don't care if I paid for someone elses.
