961  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Hey guys, as some of you know, bitcoinOre.com came under attack two days ago, wh on: August 09, 2013, 09:07:03 PM
Greetings, bitcoinore.com.

1 - Never change the rules at the middle of a "game".

I think this falls under the term "Growing Pains". There will always be unintended consequences. People can't think of every possibility. It would probably be best to declare the site in Beta Testing and scale back rewards until it is seen how it performs in the real world.
962  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Difficulty keeping 20+ USB Block Eruptors stable on: August 09, 2013, 08:59:06 PM
check this thread to learn more than your ever wanted to know about HUBs: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=253749.0

the table tells you how many erupters work in each one.

the 127 hard limit on USB is per controller. Depends on how many USB Controllers your MB has. PCI cards can be bought with their own controllers to add capacity.

I'm running 24 on 3 10-port HUBs with no problems.
963  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Transaction fees are set by core developers, not by the market on: August 09, 2013, 08:35:20 PM
Satoshi's client doesn't allow to set arbitrary fee (0.00000001 BTC for example) via interface. WTF?

Are you sure? I'm using bitcoin-qt and i managed to get it that low playing around. check the pull-downs.
964  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [90000 GH] BTC Guild - PPS/PPLNS + TxFees, Stratum, MergedMining, Private Access on: August 09, 2013, 07:54:04 PM
Just speculating... using erupters 1Gh/s = 1.8 BTC(approximately) so a 10Gh/s blade better be BELOW 18 BTC or there is no benefit. I'm curious to see although I'll be stuck buying erupters for quite some time before I'll make enough BTCs for a Blade.

no sir, you are off by two decimal points ... it is 1GH/s = ~.018 per 24hr shift at 100% uptime...
I think he meant that 3 Erupters @ 333MH/s cost approximately 1.8BTC @ 0.6BTC a piece.  Therefore a 10GH/s blade needs to come in at less than 10 times the cost.
Ahh, my bad... thought he was talking profit margin, not cost. Oops!

Profit? We're supposed to make a Profit? I thought this was a game to see who could make the most BTCs in the least amount of time at the lowest cost. Nobody told me i had to make a profit too!!!  Huh  geesh.

Okay now from bad to worse....

The hub is brand new. the laptop is lass then 1 year old and the Erupters are brand new but after just a couple of minutes running they all go sick/dead.

I've had very cold air blowing on then from the start and they are not hot to the touch at all (warm of course.)

What the fuck is happening? I can't run them for over 3 or 4 minutes without them shutting down.

does the hub have enough power? is the hub's power supply hot?

968  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: It's sad. on: August 08, 2013, 12:33:08 AM
whew... you should be getting about 0.004 BTC a day more!

yeah, but i'm at about 8Gh/s so that .004 BTC doesn't really show much difference  Tongue
969  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: ASIC misfortune: Anker Uspeed USB-hub broke down. on: August 08, 2013, 12:23:52 AM

Yesterday, as I was hanging out with one of my girls, I casually checked in on BTC Guild to make sure things were running smoothly at home when I realised something bad was going on. So this morning I not-so-casually raced home through the London morning commute, surprising my housemates at breakfast, and found that my Anker Uspeed 10-port USB 3 hub was on the fritz. It wasn't completely dead: there were short-lived flickers of light but, and I could run one USB erupter for a while but after a minute or so that too stopped working.

Right now I have two erupters plugged in to the existing ports, instead of my usual nine. I have ordered a new USB-hub of the same make, so I should be up and running again tomorrow. Has anybody else had any problem with this hub? Is it not suitable to run 24/7 like this?

I had one power supply go down out of 11 Anker 10-port hubs.  I've seen people report that it's very easy to get a replacement hub from Anker (good warranty).

i have one of the black ones where the 4-5(don't remember exact number) ports nearest the power switch stopped working. Erupters plugged in there get the LED on constant and cgminer doesn't see them. I just use the ports that work and plugged the fan in one that doesn't. Undecided

Sounds like one of the internal hubs broke down on your unit.  10-port hubs tend to be 2x4 port and 1x2 port hubs inside.

yeah, if i feel ambitious, i'll open it up and look inside. I've still got another 10 port for expansion.
970  Bitcoin / Pools / It's sad. on: August 07, 2013, 06:45:42 PM
I add a new USB erupter to my miner and barely notice any difference in my performance in the Pool. Cry

enough of the stupid pictures already. can we keep this thread informational and not "i told you so" ego boosting?

Just a question,

Is Namecoin mining enabled in the pool? i haven't got any NMC yet but I have confirmed BTC reward.

No, there is no longer Namecoin here.
974  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [80000 GH] BTC Guild - PPS/PPLNS + TxFees, Stratum, MergedMining, Private Access on: August 07, 2013, 04:01:25 PM
Satoshi level rounding has always been a slight issue since BTC Guild actually stores the data way beyond the 8th decimal.  I'll take a look to see why you're getting different numbers on the two Tongue.

I wan't really concerned, just amused. But it seems that you fixed it. I hope it didn't take too long.

Pool is up again  Grin

it has been up the whole time, IF you were connected to x.x.x.101
all my clients that were directly connected to x.x.x.74 were having issues

please don't show IP addresses in full. Wink board is searchable via google.

No one has has any issues showing IPs here. Why would this be a problem? Even the pool operaters reference IPs at times. There is no secret.

Kramble, that's an impressive piece of kit. I haven't read the entire ~150 pages , but that's about one of the coolest pieces of kit I've seen on this thread. It's not about the MH/s, its about getting stuff to work. Hat's off to you! Way beyond my "Electrotech 101" which is some 20 years old now back in college where we'd blow up a capacitor/inductor or two :-)

To the person who was interested in 10 port USB hub, this one works good (and is cheap)

Don't know if you can get it in the US, but 21 pounds works out about 30 USD - but shipping from England would be heavy I would think.

that looks like the anker with a different name and half the price.  Undecided
977  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [80000 GH] BTC Guild - PPS/PPLNS + TxFees, Stratum, MergedMining, Private Access on: August 06, 2013, 09:33:52 PM
here is a silly one. my pplns total is .00000001 higher than the total in the table to the left of it. This amuses me. Shocked
978  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Question on theory ... on: August 06, 2013, 07:10:57 PM
One thing everyone seems to miss is that Bitcoin is deflationary. The amount of Bitcoin generated drops quickly, but as price goes up and value of smaller amounts increases, that allows new mining equipment to become profitable again at reduced Bitcoin prices.

Bitcoin will only be deflationary once all the bitcoins have been produced. until then inflation is the rule.
979  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [12000 GH/s] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + UserDiff; ASIC tested on: August 06, 2013, 06:55:38 PM
I believe he may be thinking of things like Bitminter or BTCguild PPLNS rounds....  The Slush pool isn't like those.  A round in Slush is as long as it takes to find a block.  Could be 2 seconds, could be several hours.

Yes, Slush is best used 24x7.   Your score for a block decays very rapidly when you stop mining, unlike the more gradual decay of a DGM pool.  Leave for a couple of minutes and your reward drops towards zero very quickly.

i had noticed that..trying to get my head around all the different pools etc. aswell as reading wikis it helps to ask Smiley

one more question, how long does it take for the btc reward to be confirmed? latest one says validity 91 confirmations left?!?!? google it but could not find the answer Sad  sorry if im being an idiot Grin

This has always been confusing to me, so i'll try and explain it as simply as i can. Once the pool finds a block, every block found after that and added to the chain by anyone is considered one confirmation. Most pools look for 100 confirmations, or 100 blocks to be found subsequent to the one being found. so how long is 100 x (approximately) 10 minutes. or, about 16 hours.
980  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Which USB hub to use with Block Erupters or K1? A List. on: August 06, 2013, 06:32:38 PM
I have tried and using [ Monoprice 12-port USB 2.0 Hub w/3.5A AC Adapter ] in my setup I'm running 7 block erupters on it nicely and due to the nice round shape there is plenty of breathing room between all of the erupters for heat dissipation.

Monoprice 12-port USB 2.0 Hub w/3.5A AC Adapter

what would be cool would be if these had fold out male connecters in the bottom so that you could stack them.
