9641  Bitcoin / Press / [05-19-2017] Bitbank’s Lizardo: Bitcoin Use in China, All 99% Speculation on: May 19, 2017, 01:02:09 AM
This comes from the mouth of a person who is working in China as the vice president of the Bitbank Group. What does this mean for bitcoin in China? Many people in the forum are declaring that they are an important part of the community and there some who say that there are a lot of bitcoin users in China. It is all untrue. What they want is yuan from bitcoin trades.

Is it better for them to be banned by China's central bank forever?

Due to the pseudonymous nature of bitcoin, it is sometimes difficult to figure out who is using the digital currency and for what reason. In a recent interview with Chris DeRose, Bitbank Group Vice President of International Affairs Virgilio Lizardo Jr. discussed the type of people using bitcoin in China.

Bitbank Group is behind some of the most well-known bitcoin companies in China such as cryptocurrency mining company BW and cryptocurrency exchange Bter.

According to Lizardo, the use of bitcoin for price speculation is the main thing that has attracted people to the digital asset in China.

“There’s very little users,” Lizardo told DeRose during the recent interview. “I would say 99 percent are speculators.”

9642  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: POLONIEX its insolvent - Bolivarcoin Theory + Proff on: May 19, 2017, 12:50:43 AM
What other options are there for newbies? I burned my fingers with Yobit, but so far I have had a relatively good experience with Poloniex, except for lags and sometimes I cannot cancel orders.

There is Bittrex for the newer and latest cryptocoins and BTCE for the older and well established coins. Poloniex is not a good exchange for high volume. You will surely lose some bitcoin value there. Others speculate they are slowing down the site on purpose.
9643  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ripple announces XRP lockup, locking up as many as 88% of its current XRP. on: May 19, 2017, 12:39:15 AM
Is the Ripple platform really adequate enough to handle the majority of the banks' transactions? I saw a video on youtube.com that featured Peter Todd, one of the popular contributors in developing bitcoin, say that Ripple has technical limitations and cannot reach consensus efficiently. I will post the video in another thread so that we could all discuss it there.
9644  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: POLONIEX its insolvent - Bolivarcoin Theory + Proff on: May 18, 2017, 01:35:02 AM
They probably do need more bandwidth and some server upgrades.
It would be interesting to see info on the number of users/ trades a day they are handling compared to this time last year.
So many new people are getting into crypto trading, they might have double the users they did in 2016.

What they need is a platform upgrade. Lags have already been happening in the exchange everytime there is extra high traffic. The promise that they will fix it but until now it has not been done. The platform itself might be substandard.
9645  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ripple announces XRP lockup, locking up as many as 88% of its current XRP. on: May 18, 2017, 01:31:01 AM
This also shows the centralization of Ripple. They have just decided how to release the rest of the coins and have shown the they have full control without the need to ask for anyone's suggestions. No community discussion was done. That might be bad because in a worst case scenario they will be able to change the transaction history with out your consent.
9646  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Ethereum beat Bitcoin to an ETF? on: May 18, 2017, 01:02:22 AM
Bitcoin ETF "was denied as a result of lack of regulations within the foreign Bitcoin market". If bitcoin ETF was rejected based on that, I would think the same rationale can be applied to Ethereum. The eth market is definitely unregulated and cannot be controlled by any single jurisdiction in my opinion, the same way bitcoin is.

This is the smartest answer in here. Also Ethereum has many illegally issued tokens inside the platform itself. The Ethereum Foundation could also be charged with running an illegal issuer of 3rd party securities on top of the charges on issuing ETH.

It is a legal quagmire.
9647  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcoin arbitrage betting on: May 18, 2017, 12:54:46 AM
It's really hard to make an arbitrage on sports betting , simply because most of the bookies take their odds from the same source, and even if you were able to find a bookie who takes their odds from different website, it would be pretty hard to make an arbitrage since most of them are charging huge house edge which will kill your profits.

I think that if you are looking to have any profit made from arbitrage u should try to do that with bitcoin markets which are much easier to track and to arbitrage.

Using the different markets is often not as easy as it sounds. Transfering bitcoins and USD across platforms can be expensive and slow, making the arbitrage that much more difficult.

There have been examples of great arbitrage options for sports betting. It should be possible to that with bitcoin as well.

With the backlog reaching 200k unconfirmed transactions it will be very hard to use arbitrage as a strategy in sportsbetting. There are some cases that transactions reach 3 days before getting 1 confirmation. The advantage of using bitcoin is no so much of an advantage anymore. What would be the next best coin for sportsbooks to use?
9648  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UFC 211: Miocic vs Dos Santos info and Prediction Thread on: May 18, 2017, 12:46:28 AM
@bbc.reporter the reason people will start talking about that after defeating Cain is simply because the heavyweight division never had a great fighter who could impose their will and dominate the entire division, for me Cain is a great fighter but is he the greatest fighter, hell no and look at the age of Werdum when he got knocked out cold, the entire division is not getting younger, that being said Miocic is a really good fighter and with the confidence and the momentum he has he could be the best heavyweight of all time if he could perform like this for a couple of years.

Read my post again 5 times. When did I say that Stipe Miocic is the greatest of all time? What I said was a Cain vs Stipe fight might be a causal effect that Stipe will be considered one of the greatest of all time. If you think Fabricio is more commendable to be the greatest then he should prove it by challenging Stipe. If you think he is too old then he should retire.
9649  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: POLONIEX its insolvent - Bolivarcoin Theory + Proff on: May 17, 2017, 01:49:58 AM
So going tohttps://www.walletexplorer.com/ site and taking a look at Poloniex wallet https://www.walletexplorer.com/wallet/Poloniex.com i saw that the balance on the hot wallet has decreased considerably from 36000 BTC day 9-5-2017 https://www.walletexplorer.com/wallet/Poloniex.com?page=460 https://www.walletexplorer.com/wallet/Poloniex.com?page=1 to 4700 BTC today 15-5-2017

So how is possible that POLONIEX trade 300.000 BTC a day and has only 4700 BTC on his wallet?

They may be utilizing cold wallets. That doesn't necessarily indicate insolvency.

Also, that address holds only their Bitcoins whereas most trading volume on Polo is in ALT coins.

I stopped using Polo though for a different reason, because I got tired of them always putting hour(s) long holds on my withdrawls.

Hours long holds on withdrawals is a warning sign for me to start moving your coins out of the exchange. What reason do they have to start holding our withdrawals for that long? Poloniex is also attested as very slow and lags in situations of very high trading volumes. Many traders are already losing money by using that exchange for the last 2 weeks.
9650  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [STJ] STORJ Token Sale :: 19th May - 19th June on: May 17, 2017, 01:21:40 AM
I have seen the Storj coin traded in Poloniex and Bittrex. I assumed there was already working network and a blockchain already running it. My question is about the pricing. Will the protocol always price the fees in US dollars? How will it adjust the fees during the time when there is high volatility in the market?
9651  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ripple announces XRP lockup, locking up as many as 88% of its current XRP. on: May 17, 2017, 01:00:04 AM
Its called a Pump and Dump.
Pump it then announce you Dump (release) 1b a month, classical.

Ripple tard will tell you it is normal natural growth.

I will quote the article here in case someone tries to argue against it. Please look at the quote below. This is a signal from the team of Ripple themselves that they will be selling 1 billion XRP a month. The only good I see about it is at least they have made everything transparent to everyone what they want to do. Maybe it is also a needed public announcement to protect themselves from the SEC.

To help give potential future XRP owners certainty that the market won't be flooded with this trove of cryptocurrecy, Ripple built 55 smart contracts using its own escrow feature released for public used in March, each holding 1 billion XRP and expiring on the first day of every month for a period of 54 months.

As each contract expires, the cryptocurrency will briefly become available for Ripple to use as it sees fit.

9652  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Ethereum beat Bitcoin to an ETF? on: May 17, 2017, 12:48:45 AM
A more fundamental question in my mind is why the ETF thing is so important, and another is how it's going to affect volatility.

Are these ETFs considered derivatives?  Or are they shares in a fund that owns whatever crypto they represent?  I just don't see how they're beneficial.

Speaking of how can they be considered, will the SEC or any government regulator not question the legality of Ethereum? It would be very entertaining to see Vitalik go inside the SEC to apply for an ETF approval and be escorted out of there with handcuffs and go straight to a jail cell.
9653  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Motosport General discussion tread --- Formula1, MotoGP, WTCC, ETCC, DTM..... on: May 17, 2017, 12:31:54 AM
Not good race for Vettel,  bad tactics was problem and shame that Alonso got hit at start after that he didn't find the rhythm.

What were the bad tactics done by Sebastian Vettel and his team? Please explain it more to us so we can understand what really happened. I also thought Sebastian was the sure winner of the race but Lewis managed his tires very well and took it until the end of the race.
9654  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UFC 211: Miocic vs Dos Santos info and Prediction Thread on: May 17, 2017, 12:27:07 AM
@bbc.reporter the real petty sight of UFC heavy weight division is that no one was able to establish dominance over anyone for a longer period of time and you cannot consider yourself the best by winning just two fights in a row.Why i said to look at Werdum's resume is he defeated Fedor Emelianenko who is the greatest fighter of all time, defeated TRT Big Foot Silva who was really dangerous back then and then Cain Velasquez. If Stipe Miocic could defeat Cain then he wont be having much of a challenge in the division,i am looking for Francis Ngannou and i am interested to see who he will be facing next.

You should also consider that this is a time where there is USADA checking up on the fighters if they are using steroids or not. The great fighters you mention might not be very great without steroids.

You say Fabricio Werdum is great, ok he is great. But it only took Stipe 1 round to knock him out. Also I did not say Stipe will become the greatest of all time but people will start talking about it if he beats Cain.

9655  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UFC 213: Bisping vs GSP Info and Prediction Thread on: May 16, 2017, 01:25:18 AM
Fuck! Bisping vs GSP card got cancelled! Unbelievable:

http://www.foxsports.com/ufc/story/dana-white-scraps-plans-for-georges-st-pierre-vs-michael-bisping-declares-yoel-romero-will-get-next-title-shot-051117

It looks like GSP is definitely out, but Bisping may be still be fighting against another opponent but we all wanted to see that fight, without GSP Bisping is not going to make as much money so he is pretty pissed off... another failure for the UFC.

There are also stories in the internet that Cody Garbrandt vs TJ Dillashaw might be cancelled also. They say Cody has a back injury that might take time to heal.

I speculate Dana White will renegotiate with Anderson Silva and push him to fight in UFC 213 versus a worthy opponent. The problem is who?
9656  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UFC 211: Miocic vs Dos Santos info and Prediction Thread on: May 16, 2017, 01:20:30 AM
@bbc.reporter are you serious, a fighter who was able to defend the belt twice is considered the greatest fighter of all time. Let him start winning some fights and let him stay healthy for a couple of months and lets decide whether he can be considered the best in the world,Fabrício Werdum had a real chance to be considered the best fighter as he has defeated every fighter and look at his resume .

Please read my post again. I did not say anything like that so stop assuming. What I said is a fight between Cain Velasquez and Stipe Miocic might be a causal element of making who the greatest heavyweight fighter will be in the UFC. You question Stipe? Ok let him fight Cain then let us see the result.

I saw Fabricio's resume. Stipe knocked him out easily.
9657  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: is ETC a good coin to invest in ? on: May 16, 2017, 12:54:39 AM
i think yes, once the ETH original fork will go pure pos, investors will start pump the other alternative dagger and ETC is the strongest one among these coins, it's a good opportunity now to invest a small capital into this coin

Not only that, ETC is also supported by Barry Silbert one of the known big players in the cryptospace. Another big player who is supporting it is Chandler Guo who runs one of the largest bitcoin mining farms.

Having both of them makes you feel safe in investing in Ethereum classic.
9658  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Ethereum beat Bitcoin to an ETF? on: May 16, 2017, 12:44:40 AM
It might easily happen, as Etherium serves an actual purpose. The bad thing about bitcoin is also, things like the recent hackers event.
Hackers lock out a computer, and then demand Bitcoins as payment, in order to unlock the computer. So the majority of people, only see Bitcoin mentioned alongside with computer viruses, hackers,...Hence the negative attitude might erupt, and prevent the acceptance.

What actual purpose is Ethereum serving the world right now? What problems is it really solving?

Do not forget that hackers can also easily use Ethereum for their ransomware attacks. Maybe the reason why they are not doing it is because they think Ethereum is inferior to bitcoin. They are right in some ways.
9659  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UFC 211: Miocic vs Dos Santos info and Prediction Thread on: May 15, 2017, 01:30:23 AM
So who is going to fight Stipe next? I hope Cain Velasquez will come to full health very soon. A fight between them will be the causal element of who the greatest heavyweight will be in the history of the UFC. Some are saying it is still Cain while the others are now starting to think it is Stipe.
9660  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Charlie Lee: Bitcoin Miner Voting is Kind of Silly, But Safest Option on: May 15, 2017, 01:16:23 AM
Charlie Lee said that the mining pools are really in control if segwit is activated or not. The miners themselves only care about mining and the rewards they get. In the situation of the struggle of segwit activation in bitcoin, does that mean it is really the mining pool's fault for the low support of segwit?

“In some sense, it’s just the pools that are in control,” said Lee. “From what I know, miners don’t really care too much. They obviously want their mining to be worth more, but most of them are blindly just buying equipment and mining bitcoins and not really that into the scaling issue or SegWit activation.
