Seems the site is fubar or being bombed with 1 Satoshi bets

Oh yes!  I hadn't noticed.

Looks like someone is sending many 1 satoshi bets.  For example: http://blockchain.info/tx-index/35996634

SatoshiDice pays a separate fee for each bet.  The attacker only pays a single fee to attack all the SatoshiDice addresses in a single transaction.
9662  Economy / Gambling / Re: y4x.com: BTC awarded on first block that has a bid on: December 10, 2012, 02:24:24 AM
The problem with having your transaction more appealing/accessible to miners is the scenario in which only your transactions are included in the next block and your competitors/starting bid aren't.

So long as my transactions all get in, I'm OK.  At least then I break even (except for the fee).

The problem is when mine don't get in.  Then I lose.

I keyed in the payout table for Bitcoin Video Poker (flush paying 4:1 instead of 5:1, jackpot 4000) and the rake comes out at 1,6%.

Where's "Bitcoin Video Poker", with a lower flush payout?

I thought this play.luckco.in had the standard flush payout.  (It's currently down, so I can't check).
9664  Economy / Gambling / Re: play.luckco.in - video poker - free credits on: December 10, 2012, 01:41:06 AM
I used http://wizardofodds.com/games/video-poker/analyzer/ to work out how big the jackpot has to be before the game is +EV for the player:

Seems to be around 4880.
9665  Economy / Gambling / Re: y4x.com: BTC awarded on first block that has a bid on: December 10, 2012, 01:38:53 AM
How many nodes are you connected to with your sending client?  Blockchain.info is very easy to get broadcast to because they have 2500+ connections with their custom implementation.  You need more connections to increase your chances to get to miners maybe?

14 at the moment.
9666  Economy / Gambling / Re: y4x.com: BTC awarded on first block that has a bid on: December 09, 2012, 11:54:37 PM
Sounds like the miner didn't have your tx... or he discriminates against high fees Cheesy

My tx had a lot of small inputs - which is why the default client decided to include 3 times the usual fee I guess.

The miner may have decided it's better to include 3 small transactions rather than my 1 big one.

It just happened again by the way.  This time both transactions had the same minimum fee, but only the initial bet got into the block:
  http://blockchain.info/address/1Y4jkMHYjG8M9GeTgCZvkmsQLdwP9Q9me

In this case my transaction was smaller than the first bet, since it only had one input.
9667  Economy / Gambling / Re: SatoshiDICE.com - The World's Most Popular Bitcoin Game on: December 09, 2012, 11:49:57 PM
The 0.01 as min bet is killing me so I had to quit, I used to play with small amounts in a gambling wallet looking for low lucky numbers. Now I have to stay above 12000 all the time, and there is no fun in that.

It will be great if you reconsider your decision, at least for number bellow 4000 for example

It would make sense to allow smaller min bets for the "long shot" bets.
9668  Economy / Gambling / Re: y4x.com: BTC awarded on first block that has a bid on: December 09, 2012, 11:13:13 PM
You get better chances, if you pay the transaction fee :-D. I just played all 0.01 0.05 and 0.1 .. and of course, the biggest one did not have the fee included -> lost that one.

In the case I'm thinking of I paid 0.0015 in fees, the initial bet only paid 0.0005, but still the initial bet got into a block before I did.  Both transactions hit blockchain.info long before the block was found.  The miner just decided to include the tx with the smaller fee rather than mine for some reason.
9669  Economy / Gambling / Re: Casinobit - no house edge, 100% payout on: December 09, 2012, 09:59:15 PM
This is troubling.  I'm not much of a gambler, and haven't ever played SatoshiDice, but someone bringing a casino to the Bitcoin community is really not doing their homework to not understand how SatoshiDice's hashing works and why knowing the secret list ahead of time isn't a problem if it's being hashed with the transaction ID.

It is possible for them to rob their investors by sending selective transactions to themselves since they know the secret list ahead of time.

This part is actually true.  It is possible for SatoshiDice to deliberately make bets against themselves that they know in advance will win.  This will reduce their profits, and result in lower payouts to their investors.

It's not possible for SatoshiDice to cheat against their players though (except by using the wrong day's secret, or just not paying out at all).

I just discovered a bug in the withdraw code.  I had a balance of ~160, and a Wagering Requirement of 60.  I clicked 'withdraw' and then 'withdraw' again without putting in a bitcoin address.

It took 100 (or so) chips off my balance leaving me with 60, but didn't (of course) send me the other 100.

The game operator was online at the time so I reported the issue to him there.  He's unable to fix it at the moment, so he's taken the game down until he can:

9671  Economy / Gambling / Re: play.luckco.in - video poker - free credits on: December 09, 2012, 09:09:13 PM
There's a display bug that seems pretty reproducible.

I play for 3 chips per hand.  If I get a straight on the first deal and hold all 5 cards, it adds 5*4 to my balance, then takes off 2*4.

For example, I had 109 chips after starting the hand.  I held all 5 cards, hit deal, and saw my balance update to 129 and then after half a second or so update again to 121.

I've noticed this happen at least 3 times now.  I think maybe it only happens when I've held all 5 cards.
9672  Economy / Gambling / Re: y4x.com: BTC awarded on first block that has a bid on: December 09, 2012, 06:57:49 PM
You should change the System! Wating for one Conformation for Initialbet is not bad.

I've had the opposite situation, where I was the only one playing, and got my bid in in plenty of time, but then only the initial bet made it into the block that was eventually found.

It was one of those times when there was almost an hour between blocks, and so thousands of transactions were waiting to get into blocks.  I just got unlucky and didn't make it into the same block as the initial bet.

Maybe it would be a reasonable change to make it so that the winner is the biggest payment confirmed in the same block as the initial bet or before, and gets all the confirmed bets so far.  Only payments which get confirmed later than the initial payment go to the house.  I don't know how that would affect the house though.  Obviously it would reduce the house take, but I don't know whether it would turn the game into a losing proposition for the house or not.
9673  Economy / Gambling / Re: play.luckco.in - video poker - free credits on: December 09, 2012, 06:53:07 PM
Wow, you're the guy who wasted my time by hiding from irc after we agreed to a deal.

Are you talking to me?  If so I can't imagine what deal you're talking about.  I sometimes try to buy BTC for PayPal on #bitcoin-otc but recently have had very little luck.  Unsurprisingly, I guess.
9674  Economy / Gambling / Re: Casinobit - no house edge, 100% payout on: December 09, 2012, 06:49:45 PM
I'm also a little confused.  Why do I need to register and provide an email address if you're

Quote
the number 1 online anonymous casino site and online poker in the world.

?

The game that appeared when I finally got logged in seems to be a little like satoshidice.  I send coins to an address to bet, and you return winnings to the address I sent from.  Why even ask for registration if that's the game?

Finally, is this how the game is meant to look?

It looks like there might be some small text in those green boxes.  If you chose a colour that contrasted with the green I might be able to tell for sure.
9675  Economy / Gambling / Re: Casinobit - no house edge, 100% payout on: December 09, 2012, 06:40:45 PM
All the bugs reported by dooglus have been fixed.

I still find it hard to read the captcha:

and you still won't let me use the password I want to (and the error message doesn't fit in the box it's meant to):

I've still not got to play any games so I can't tell if you've fixed the biggest problem - that your games lacked provable fairness.  But given your first post on the subject I doubt you think it's worth doing.

Edit: I used a shorter password, managed to register, then when I went to sign in it asked for a new captcha:

but I guess I read it wrong, because then it did this:

and I can't see where to go from there.  There's no option to try logging in again.

The whole feel of the site isn't very slick.  It feels like something that's only just been put together and needs the rough edges taken off.

Here's a weird one:

I got it right on my very first guess, but it wasn't picked up.

The other guy in the chat saw it though, and commented on it:

9678  Economy / Gambling / Re: play.luckco.in - video poker - free credits on: December 09, 2012, 05:06:34 AM
I got the error message again.  Again it was on the first hand after I'd taken a break for an hour or two, and again it was after I had decided which cards to hold, and clicked 'deal' for the 2nd time.

This time I was quick enough to grab a screenshot:

9679  Economy / Gambling / Re: play.luckco.in - video poker - free credits on: December 09, 2012, 03:22:39 AM
I just had a game freeze up on me.

I had been offline for a few hours, then got back online, clicked 'deal', got a couple of queens, held the two queens, clicked 'deal' again, and saw an error box pop up in the bottom right.  It was too quick for me to screenshot it, but here's how the screen looked after it had gone.  I tried talking in the chat box, but my message didn't go through:

Then, while I was typing this message, the screen updated to look like this:

I didn't get to see my new hand, but judging by the balance it looks like I got a 3rd queen.  The "THREE OF A KIND" line isn't white like it would normally be after a win though, so I don't know what happened.  I think that's my name it is welcoming in the chat, so maybe it thinks I only just joined, whereas really I've already played a game before the welcome message showed up.  And it's not normal to see the 'backs' of cards except before your first game.
9680  Economy / Gambling / Re: Casinobit - no house edge, 100% payout on: December 09, 2012, 03:13:44 AM
Aside from the above, I tried making an account.

* it complained that my password was too secure.  maximum 15 characters allowed

* the captcha you use is very hard to read

* once I eventually got registered I tried logging in and got an ugly error page:

I guess I'll give up for now.
