9661  Economy / Speculation / Re: Predict the bitcoin price before 2018 starts on: December 16, 2017, 04:55:44 PM
Predict the price for bitcoin before the year is over

Ok. I might say that the price could go around $16,000 - $20,000. There's still a lot of investors who are waiting in line to and get bitcoin and any minor corrections is a opportunity for them to jump so its safe that before the end of the year it could be at the long awaited $20,000. Right now we are above $18,++ without the CME coming into the picture yet, we all know that there are a lot of irrational buyers willing to come in at all cost, not waiting for the corrections but just buying. This alone should significantly impact the price to move along the $20,000 levels. It the market could hit that price then its obvious that the trend will continue because Nasdaq will have its version of bitcoin future contracts in Q1 or Q2. Let's see how everything pan's out. Exciting times ahead just couple of days before CME's turn so I'm will remain bullish and I think this price hike due to institutional investors coming into picture will likely have a positive impact on us, long term.
9662  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Over 500 Billion dollars market cap, what if big investors cashes out on: December 16, 2017, 04:31:40 PM
When i am looking at a total market cap at Coinmarketcap, I cannot help but wonder what if a big investors in cryptocurrencies makes a move to cash out at this time. And i'm sure that traditional bitcoin holders believe in HODL. But lately, the cash inflow that we have seen in this market is probably big institutional investors. And they will be looking to exit at some point with huge profits.

So if and when that happens, I feel there will be a huge decline.

What are your thoughts?

Marketcap for me is not significant. You can even see some shitcoins you have huge marketcap but still undervalued. But if big investors decided to sell and dump their coins and cash it out, of course the price would dramatically feel causing panic selling. However, you have to realized that there are thousand of investors big and casual alike who are waiting in line to get bitcoins. So the effect of this scenario will be short term only. Maybe after a week or so, bitcoin is back again from its normal price and can go even further as the previous all-time-high. History already taught us that is always been the case. Just look back few months ago when all this Chinese anti-bitcoin policy came out. The price drops, however, it has recovered and look at where we are standing right now.
9663  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2018 NBA Season on: December 16, 2017, 03:23:35 PM
Cleveland Cavaliers are looking very good in the eastern conference zone table, with LeBron James leading the attack, I don't think Utah Jazz stand a chance against them, even though we might not see Dwyane Wade playing in this match for Cleveland Cavaliers due to a knee injury.
Yeah cavaliers will dominate eastern conference because none of the eastern team can defeat, as of this conference Cleveland is just like walking in the park for their conference final unlike western conference the power house of good teams winning western conference final is very tough specially for the reigning champion, and for the aspiring team in the western conference.
Maybe this playoffs we can see a good competition in the East because looks like the Boston Celtics are their great rival now, also in the west I am hoping to see the Warriors and the Rockets to face in the Western Conference finals. Lot's of surprises this season, I'm hoping to see a great match up in the playoffs like game 7s because it's more fun and thrill to see a long series.

Boston/Cleveland and GSW/Houston are obviously the top matchups for the east and the west but as we've all witnessed many times before, it seldom happens that predicted matchups take place. Especially in the west. Playoff time brings a different tune to the matchups as dark horses emerge. Take for example the spurs. With the string of losses even with kahwi back, people may be writing them off prematurely. I won't be surprised if we see pop battling either gsw or the rockets for the wc title

It will be a dream match if this teams meet in the on their respective divisions. Specially in the Boston/Cleveland matchup, it will be test for Kyrie to proved his worth, while James trying to show that even without Kyrie, he can bring Golden State to the NBA championship. While on the other side, CP3 wants to test his first right and will challenge Steph and prove who is the best guard in the NBA. But a lot of teams have been improving as well and wants to challenge Cleveland and Golden State, so I also wouldn't be surprise if either one of them don't reach at the top of their division.
9664  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin reach 25,000$ at this year end ?? on: December 16, 2017, 03:15:47 PM
Now the price of bitcoin move towards  16800,so I think the price of bitcoin will move towards 25,000$ at this year end.
The price of bitcoin will reach 20k$ at this year end or 25k$ ??

So what is your opinion about this?

From my standpoint, we can really surpass $25,000, it will just a matter of time. From the time the OP writes this thread, the price of bitcoin is $16,800 now it already touches $18,000. So it's getter closing, maybe a fair assessment is $20,000 at the end of the year. We need to have a fresh new investors who are more willing to put millions to be able to push to $25,000, but I don't know if we can do it, actually $20,000 for me is getting nearer so let's say we should target that first and possible $25,000 January 2018. CME bitcoin future offering is just a few days away, this might push the price to go to $20,000 at the end of year. It's gonna be exciting to finally see one day the price getting to that levels. But for now, we need to have a lot of patience and the best thing to do is to hold.

Saw that the highest price for btc is on topbtc.com https://coinmarketcap.com/exchanges/topbtc/

https://mobile.twitter.com/topbtc_com

Homepage is translated from Chinese using Google translate.

Somebody will think they are smart and send some coins there to arbitrage but might not end well.

Not an accusation, but people should be careful

Thanks for the fair warning dude. There might be a scam site, however its not proven yet. But I have to agree that with the current surge of bitcoin and crypto, everyone is really getting into it and its hard to separate a trust site from a possible scam. How many times we hear people lost their bitcoin because they decided to put money on a site that they think are fairly secure, but unfortunately they aren't. Trading platforms, wallets, tumbler services are all being copied and clone. It's a wild wild west out there. Just be careful and vigilant and be safe everyone.

Patience Is A Trader's Virtue
Although the best investors and traders understand the importance of patience, it is one of the most difficult skills to learn as an investor and trader.

Oh dear, you don't have to preach it. Everyone knows that already, but yes its the most difficult thing to do, but I don't consider them skills though, I think its more of a mindset or feelings rather than talent or skillsets. From my personal perspective its one of the most difficult to control, like greed. It takes mental toughness to overcome it.

Patience Is A Trader's Virtue
Although the best investors and traders understand the importance of patience, it is one of the most difficult skills to learn as an investor and trader.

Like patience, it sounds like a very easy thing. Like if you see the definition of the word , it just means wait and actually you don't have to do anything when your waiting. This sounds easy but everyone has an anxiety which doesn't allow them to be patient. Actually patience needs alot of skill and self control. People might easily say that they are patient but when they will have to actually test it they will probably fail .

Yes, its not easy as it sounds. Most people are very impatient and if they go trading, they will be having a hard time to control it because they are used to be like that. And as a result they lost and just quit trading for good. I don't know if it can be self taught though. But I guess through practice and experience, maybe there is a chance that you can learn to control it if you have been trading for so long already.
9667  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-12-15] 9 Bitcoin Experts Share Predictions of Bitcoin Future (Buzzfeed) on: December 16, 2017, 02:53:12 PM
It's a pretty weak list of experts. I've been around for a long time and I only know two of them.

Qualifications like this aren't exactly convincing:
Quote
Investor and in the IT industry for 25 years. Researching and being more and more fascinated by blockchain technology for more than 2 years....

Not only that, but BuzzFeed itself is not known for its reliable news. There have been way too many times that reporters, writers, and editors at BuzzFeed manage to release a poorly researched article that either lacks context or is made public simply to attract clicks. They probably are just trying their hardest to get in on the Bitcoin bandwagon without having to put the effort into learning about it. I would not be surprised if they do not have any standards to consider the individuals on this list experts. I would just stay away from them.

I totally agree with you. Although Buzzfeed has been in the industry too long already, but it seems that they don't care and even the publishers won't do anything as long as it will make revenue for them. And everyone is really riding on the popularity of bitcoin that its pretty obvious that the author is just doing that. Garbage and totally out of context. I noticed that this trend started like 6 months ago when bitcoin was taking off. Everyone wants to writes article on it for clickbait and exposure only. They are no experts, if you consider them, then you might as well consider newbies creating multiple threads everyday. LOL. They are more well-versed than the so called experts.  Smiley
9668  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [2017-12-16] Ethereum Price Hits All Time High of $750 Following Speed Boost on: December 16, 2017, 02:45:37 PM
Ethereum's price surge continued into today as the digital currency topped $700 to reach a high of $750 according to coinmarketcap.com. This brought Ethereum’s market capitalization to an astonishing $72.5 bln. However, as Bitcoin mounted a comeback, returning to near-record highs, Ethereum slipped. At press time, Ethereum was trading for $640.
Transaction throughput

The network's transaction speed and fee normalisation seem to have influenced the prince increase. Co-founder Vitalik Buterin posted on Twitter Wednesday that the Ethereum network surpassed 10 transactions per second for an entire day on Tuesday.

More: https://cointelegraph.com/news/ethereum-price-hits-all-time-high-of-750-following-speed-boost

Although 2017 is touted as Bitcoin's year, the gains which Ethereum has made are far more impressive. It still has potential to go higher and even Mike Novogratz believes so. Of course, there will be corrections when Bitcoin surges as people shift money from Ethereum to Bitcoin.

Ethereum already reaches its all-time-high mid year this year but then experienced a sudden downtrend. However, not to be outdone by big brother bitcoin, Ethereum suddenly surges again before the end of the year because of several reasons. I think after the end of November meeting, a lot of companies has suddenly renewed their interest on this coins. And I think companies are really interested on Ethereum main weapon, smart contracts.

https://www.coindesk.com/ethereum-ripple-and-litecoin-have-arrived-on-bloomberg-terminals/

There's also a rumored ETH future contracts as well. So the future looks very bright for ETH. We may see one day the price surpassing 4 digits as well.
9669  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-12-16] Bitcoin’s Price Captures a New High Touching $18,000 on: December 16, 2017, 01:48:04 PM
Again, this may have been driven by CME bitcoin future contracts on Monday. A lot have been waiting and buying in line with irrational behavior and gambling that the price could go to $20,000 but we all know that bitcoin is very volatile and it may or may not happen. This is what we see during the CBOE offering as well, but the price seems to settled around $16,000-$17,000 after a week so there's not much significant price increased but instead we see relatively reduced volatility. Maybe we can hit $20,000 but it needed a new set of investors, those who are just putting their money because they don't want to miss the opportunity to gain profit (FOMO). Let's see how it goes though, only a few days so better just hold on our bitcoin and decide later if the wind is favorable on our end.
9670  Economy / Speculation / Re: Only 2 days untill CME launch Bitcoin future! on: December 16, 2017, 01:37:04 PM
Accumulate Bitcoin as much as you can.
And thank me later... Wink

What do you mean accumulate more? Do you know something that we are not aware of? If you are pertaining that bitcoin price could go to $20,000 because of the CME then we love to it see, however, no one is certain what will happen. Personally, I think its already price it, but I may be wrong. And if we are going to based everything on CBOE experience, we didn't have any significant gain, but reduced volatility. Although last time I checked, the price is just above $18,000. But bitcoin futures contracts is so much different from what a ordinary or successful trader is doing. So It can go either way, but since all of us are very bullish, we always think that they can really bring a lot of investors to the ecosystem to profit, it may or may not be the case.

213,519 bitcoins
That is a massive amount of bitcoin just for a country imagine if they don't discover that one I think criminals will enjoying and harvest right now. Yes, the question is what do the Bulgarian government do with that seized amount of bitcoins? Bulgarian government would be rich by now and bitcoin price would skyrocketing again.
US Government seized more bitcoin before but they put it into auction. I think Bulgarian government intended not to sell those coin from the start and just decided to keep it. Are they supporting bitcoin in their country?

I don't know if bitcoin is accepted in their country or what, but that's one huge bitcoin that they did discover. If I'm the government I would auctions those similar to what US did and put the money into something meaningful. They could utilized that huge amount, improved their citizens lives, build infrastructure, there's a lot that can really be done with that money.

Also, is it my imagination or is zerohedge assuming an anti crypto stance of late? It seems as if someone is pressuring ZH to publish news stories which criticize or attack bitcoin which is interesting.

Zerohedge has a varied output on crypto. I guess Zerohedge is a team and "Tyler Durden" is a bunch of people. Sometimes they say Bitcoin is the second coming of Jesus, other times they say it's the devil. It's pretty confused for anyone used to reading a website that only has one side.

What is a permanent is the comment section. It's filled with clueless old goldbugs that have been watching BTC fo up since the beginning, and they are still in denial.

Yes, Zerhedge has varied output about bitcoin and cryptos, but for me they are really more a "GOLD" nut hugger. And what's funny is that they will praise bitcoin in the first paragraph of their article, then lash at it at the end. LOL. And I don't think that they are pressured or something as OP might speculate, they have been like this for the last 6 months, so I assume they are anti crypto's to begin with and more of a Gold website.
9672  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin fever on: December 16, 2017, 10:02:38 AM
There is no single person on earth who haven't heard of bitcoin.
Everyone is talking about it, it's all over the news, everyone is buying it, price is dramatically increasing.
It's like gold rush back in 1848.

So why aren't we calling this bitcoin rush?
You know, in 20 years from now it would be funny to say - yeah, i bought/mined bitcoin during bitcoin rush back in 2017 Cheesy

In an extent I would say Yes, its looks like that bitcoin is taking the world by storm. Have you heard that Bitcoin has more Google-search than the Kardashians? Yes, that right, we are now at the top of searches around the world. Everyone is on a rush to at least owned a few satoshi's or bitcoin on their wallet. I don't think that the "Gold Rush" wasn't termed doing its height. But just maybe 10-20 years when we are all looking back we can say that we are part of that bitcoin revolution. And this rush is just the beginning, specially when bitcoin peak at $10,000, it is here to stay, and those people who think bitcoin is a bubble up to this time will be left in the closet. LOL.

Crazy match at Philly. Important win for OKC. Westbrook is awful though. Probably the worst superstar NBA ever had  Grin
There are questions to 76's coach Brown. I think he doesn't belong to this level. Absolutely his loss.

Yeah, what a game. Triple overtime baby. Much needed win for Oklahoma to get back at .500 for the time being. I really though that the Sixers will pull through, bad play, good defense by Oklahoma and I guess just the breaks of the game and players getting fatigue. It's a ugly lost for the Sixers and I agree about coach Brown, partly to blame with the lost. And the big 3 of Oklahoma did clicked today, with Melo and Paul contributing 24 points apiece. Its gonna be interesting to see Melo back on Madison Square on their next game. Paul George got a lot of boo's when they played in Indiana couple of nights ago, now its Melo's turn.
9674  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Good news from USA and Japan. on: December 16, 2017, 07:03:10 AM
Usa is selling seized Bitcoins money and converting it back to usd, this shows they are interested in the coin and will be happy to allow price hikes happen cause they'll profit a lot from sales. I feel usa shall sooner or later back Bitcoins indirectly.

https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2017/12/feds-moving-quickly-to-cash-in-on-seized-bitcoin-now-worth-8-4-million/?amp=1

I don't think that we should take this a good sign from them. They are just cashing it out, and they are right, perfect time  to convert it to USD because the price is mooning. That's lots of cash to help whatever cause they want with the millions. They can even buy another sophisticated  toys or venture it in an "experiment project" to catch criminals who are using bitcoin to hide their activity.

While a Japanese company has decided to pay part salary in Bitcoins, now how many of us wish we're part of that company don't we? Their motto to spread Bitcoins and gain more knowledge on its working that's good right for the crypto king.

https://amp.theguardian.com/technology/2017/dec/15/japanese-company-paying-employees-bitcoin

I also don't think that this will have a impact to the market. The only effect I see is that maybe some of those who have been paid in bitcoin will somewhat re-invest in into the ecosystem. But I wouldn't be surprise if they are not. No need for them to spread the knowledge since Japan has already legalized bitcoin. By this time I assumed everyone is already familiar with it. There's also a lot of questions in my mind regarding the payment system, but I will just keep it myself. You can't really stop admiring Japan though, they are really leading this bitcoin march to the next level.
9675  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin correction on: December 16, 2017, 06:53:09 AM
With all the money flowing in from blind investors and all these sudden massive increase in only a few days, are some a few scared it will crash?

I'm not saying go to 1,000$ but crash back to 10k?

And I know no one can predict anything... I'm simply asking for opinions...
The massive increase in the price happened last week, and with it, the correction. We went close to 19k and then last weekend the price went down to 13k-14k (that's $5000 difference).
We won't see 10k again unless a big crash happens (a 40% decrease in the price), which is very unlikely. I'd say the new floor is around the 16k mark (the price has been pretty stable at that price since monday) so from now on we can only expect to see the price going up/down with the usual fluctuation.
But worst case sceneraio, it goes down to 10k...so? that would be the perfect time to buy cheap coins before it jumps back to normal.
I wonder if people have not really been looking at the charts. There has been some tug of war lately between the bulls and the bears after the correction and we all see the outcome. Now the market is testing back up and I really do not know why some people are still waiting for a crash that may never even surface. Even if it eventually does, that just gives us more room to have more for ourselves.

There is a possibility and you have said it already, no one can predict anything. We may just all be scared for nothing and hoping that we will have a massive correction and we may not.

It is just reasonable that after such a long quick ride with the massive increase in profit, there should be some crazily huge correction, but from what I have been seeing recently after testing the tops and coming back down, in the real sense, this is something that may not really come but no one really knows.

Exactly, I like the way you put it, "tug of war", the bulls and the bears are continuing pulling and pushing the price of bitcoin that we even didn't see minor corrections because they are really very quick. Correction has been happening specially when CBOE opens its doors, that's why at the end of the end you will see that the price is relatively stable around $16,000-$17,000 and me thinks that at least volatility is reduced to an extend. However, its CME time to shine that's why the price has been push above $17,000 but I'm expecting that once it official offers bitcoin future contracts, we will the price moving to $18,000 and then an ensuring tug of war will occur once more. But as far as going down to $10,000, I seriously doubt that it can do that route, with so many investors waiting in line to buy. So much purchasing power willing to buy bitcoin at any price now.
9676  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will surpass $500,000 by the end of 2018 on: December 16, 2017, 06:43:49 AM
Since China shut down exchanges bitcoin has been growing at a rate of 1% per day.  This is because lets estimate at least 5 million coins are stuck in china and can't be traded so the overall tradeable supply of bitcoin is much less than it was before september 30th.  Less supply means increase in price.

Bitcoin will continue an average growth of 1% per day until the world runs out of money or china reopens exchanges and a massive dump occurs.  The equation is:

starting value x (1.01)^(# of days in the future)

Once bitcoin hits 1 million it will stall, this is because the world will literally run out of money.  At this point china will launch the cryptoyuan and allow people to trade bitcoin for it.  Then when the chinese government gets all its people's bitcoin, it will dump them on the open market and attempt to make 5 trillion dollars and pay off their national debt.

One of the most absurd conspiracies about the Chinese bag holders. LOL. 5 Million stuck? Where the hell did you got that figure? Are you from PBoC or something. LOL. You still needed a lot of base knowledge on bitcoin. I suggest you go around the forum and educated yourself. You're even worst than John McAfee you predicted $1m in 2020. Realistically, bitcoin can't get to $500,000 at the end of the year. That's too much, a conservative estimate should be around $30,000-$50,000 for me. And I doubt that the Chinese bagholders are so dumb that they will just dump it just to pay their national debt. And NO, the world will not literally run out of money. Go back to economics class and try to understand how fiat runs.
9677  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-12-16] Bitcoin is "Lifesaving" Currency in Venezuela on: December 16, 2017, 06:30:28 AM
Anyone know about the adoption of bitcoin cash in Venezuela?
Is this still largely bitcoin or is there a move to bch?

As far as I know, Venezuela is currently using bitcoin as their main hedge against the current economic situation in their country. There has been reports as well that their Central Banks are secretly mining bitcoin. But its neither confirmed nor denied. As I have mentioned several times, this is really a case study for bitcoin. We heard that gold is the best hedge for economic devastation, but the Venezuelan crisis proves that bitcoin can also be used to buy things outside of the country in order for them to survived. They purchase things using bitcoin then delivered it to them the way I understand it. As for Petro government back crypto-currency, I still don't see how it will became successful. I haven't heard any crypto back state taking off. But let see how things go for this so called "Petro".
9678  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Psychology of waiting on: December 15, 2017, 11:15:46 PM
I have now heard a lot of people talking about they are waiting for bitcoin to drop, so that they can buy bitcoin. But these guys might have said that since 6k$ and are still waiting. What do you tell those people, to try and make them understand that waiting for a drop can cost them huge percentage gains?

Let them wait and miss the opportunity to gain profit. I have heard a lot of them thinking that is a good strategy. However, I'm not a supporter of it. Before I also practice that, but then I realized that it doesn't make sense at all. Because the price that I want to didn't arrived because the next day, bitcoin recovered beautifully that I should have taken a profit already if I bought the previous day. The last good price that we can get was around $13K, so if you still didn't buy it then its already a lost for you at the current price. Now you have to wait at $15K, will it dip at the price? Most likely it will come however, the question is when?
9679  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-12-15] CBOE bitcoin futures surge 8% Friday, head for winning first week on: December 15, 2017, 03:47:22 PM
The price went as high as $18,000 based on coinmarketcap so it looks like a good ending for the week. However, based on my experience on stocks, usually Friday doesn't have much movement. Though I can't really compare those two I guess. But if this impact really bring positives amongst us then we should take it as a good sign that once CME opens its doors to bitcoin future contract the price could really cross $20,000. Exciting times ahead. Only a couple of days before CME and then we will see if the price could go further or if we are going to see reduced volatility as this have been showed earlier. Let's see how it pans out if everyone's prediction of $20,000 will happen.
9680  Economy / Economics / Re: popularity of bitcoin dictates demand, means more profit on: December 15, 2017, 01:57:25 PM
For me, yes when the demand for bitcoin grows the price will also increase. Bitcoin price is becoming expensive, and you can earn or profit more from it. Also, bitcoin is becoming much popular if the will increase rapidly. But if you just mine bitcoin to obtain it, it will become much hard because the competition is getting much harder. Smiley

Its not that easy to understand that supply and demand really drove bitcoin price to its new heights. But it's better if we understand where this demand is coming from. Right now the demand or the main driver for all of this is all the news about bitcoin future contracts. And because this is a speculative market, most investors are buying because they all want to get a piece of the cheese - profits. So this goes around, cycling and its a continuing process. So if this trend continues obviously the demand rapidly develops and builds up overtime resulting to the price of bitcoin reaching all-time-high again and again.
