Team Avalon, you need to cancel today's launch now and set a new launch date.

kthx.

Negative, orders need to be honored.
982  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Avalon ASIC] Batch #2 pre-Sale Thread on: February 02, 2013, 02:58:57 PM
I wonder if someone started attacking walletbit to try and piss everyone off. Maybe someone that already has an avalon unit and wouldn't want others to get their hands on one? Dun dun dunnnnn
983  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Avalon ASIC] Batch #2 pre-Sale Thread on: February 02, 2013, 02:57:40 PM
Wow... I'm just hoping they save my place and don't try and refund my money. What a nightmare.

Who wants to buy my chance of a spot? I'll sell it cheap.
984  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Avalon ASIC] Batch #2 pre-Sale Thread on: February 02, 2013, 02:54:26 PM
Does anyone know how many confirmations are needed? I hate having $4k in limbo and it has a confirmation on the block chain and walletbit is still spinning...
985  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Avalon ASIC] Batch #2 pre-Sale Thread on: February 02, 2013, 02:47:42 PM
Never used walletbit before, how long before my order is confirmed? 1 confirmation?
986  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Avalon ASIC] Batch #2 pre-Sale Thread on: February 02, 2013, 02:36:30 PM
It is only letting me buy 3.

988  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin IMMUNE to Bitcoin ASICs on: February 01, 2013, 10:33:26 PM
They need to actually ship something that can mine Bitcoin first, then they can see about Litecoin.

Jeff Garzik's Avalon doesn't mine bitcoins?
989  Other / Meta / Re: Upcoming downtime on: February 01, 2013, 10:12:08 PM
Still getting a LOT of 502 errors here.

Randomly interspersed with working pages?

Theymos I'm getting them too. Before my previous post, the entire website was down, 502 for 20-30 minutes. It has just become available again after another 10-15 minutes of only 502 errors.
990  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: *......Please Help want to start own mining pool.....** on: February 01, 2013, 10:06:00 PM
What mining have you done so far?  What mining software packages have you tried?

Do you know what a share is, yet?

Have you built any bitcoin code from source?

I would want to have all of the above experience (and more) under my belt before trying to create a new mining pool.

You can do all of that on the testnet blockchain. Point some miners at it, and see it work. You said you see a lot of code for back end. Yes, that's right. Are there any stratum open source projects? That's where you need to go with ASIC's appearing in the wild now.

There is no good front end and no open source secure one. You'll need to do the front on by yourself. That's what all the big players have done and most of their back ends are proprietary as well. If you can't build bitcoin from source and don't even know where to start, you should probably move on right now.

The only way you could probably really attract a crowd is offering PPS and you'll need plenty of coin to front until you can build some hash behind you and start getting some blocks.
991  Other / Meta / Re: Upcoming downtime on: February 01, 2013, 09:08:54 PM
I think there is an improvement, but it might just some kind of placebo effect since I knew changes were being made!

There were a few minutes of down time. Maybe some people left. Wait until another peek time.

Theymos, do you have any say bandwidth stats that show when the forums are the most heavily used?

I know they all weren't good or usable, but something like the icons the way it explained it seemed like it could be super helpful.
992  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin IMMUNE to Bitcoin ASICs on: February 01, 2013, 09:07:16 PM
Just like litecoin couldn't be mined with a GPU. Ooops. You mean, no one has made an ASIC yet because there is no market/profit for it. If that ever changes, there will be ASIC's for litecoin. I don't think that Litecoin = bitcoin so probably won't see one.

Now something like TRC, those are ready built for ASIC's and their network isn't very strong to start. Hopefully some firm believers in coins like that will protect their networks.
993  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BFL or Avalon on: February 01, 2013, 08:33:47 PM
If you were shopping for an ASIC miner today, which product would you purchase and why?

While Avalon has a tangible product that I believe runs "headless" (without a PC), it still consumes too much power compared to BFL products (which are still vaporware).

At this point if you are trying to mine the most coins (not make the most profit) I would say you have to go with Avalon. They have a product and you can have it in your hands in a month or two. BFL is promising April if you order today. You can mine more coins getting your hands on it now. Once everyone has ASIC's, you need the power efficiency that BFL promises. However, BFL could arguably have the worst track record on a product that doesn't yet exist.

I say mine the most coins because look at it this way. If you had plopped down $1300 worth of bitcoins for BFL's product in June when they started taking pre orders, those same coins today are worth almost $5000. If you're trying to make money and believe in what BTC is and will become, you're better taking your cash and buying coins today IMHO.

Site had a bad gateway for a second but it's even faster now.
995  Other / Meta / Re: Upcoming downtime on: February 01, 2013, 06:00:32 PM
There were some slow spots but things have picked up. Hope my suggestions URL I posted didn't cause too many problems, doesn't sound like the avatar function helped that much.

You may want to consider some nginx tuning as well if you haven't already tried.
996  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: This 51% numbers kills everything! on: February 01, 2013, 05:27:35 PM
Isn't the chance of some super group of ASIC's coming from behind and eating up the entire block chain non-existent because with each new release we lock in the block chain? They might be able to go back x number of blocks but not swallow the whole thing up.
997  Economy / Auctions / Re: Sell your Signature! on: February 01, 2013, 04:14:31 PM
I've already update my signature to this:

Invest in Silver - https://bitfunder.com/asset/TU.SILVER
TU.Silver Forum Thread - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=137459.0

I'll change it to whatever you like that's legal.

I've already done it and bid 2.5 BTC
998  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SCAMMER: Cablepair (Tom) from BTCFPGA.com/bitcoinasic.net on: February 01, 2013, 04:04:26 PM
+1 cant can't believe its that it's taken this long...

Tom, your you're a thief.

It's sad that he won't be clear about what is going on. He may have spent the money on misc. business functions and can't refund it. Think about what the charge backs cost. That's purely speculation of course. Obviously he didn't set out to scam people and he probably doesn't have a dime in his pocket for all the time and effort he has put into this whole thing. He probably got screwed by someone promising him chips.

The whole thing is very sad. But he does deserve a tag for sure. People have paid money and not been delivered to or refunded.
999  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Avalon ASIC] Batch #2 pre-Sale Thread on: January 31, 2013, 08:28:15 PM
My personal opinion:

Jeff is in the AVALON scam too.

24 hours after he received it, he posts 6 real photos and some shit a kid can do with Photoshop, when he knows there are close to a million $$$ at stake.

Typically when someone bolds something they are never wrong. I had to read this a couple of times, but obviously you've thought this out.

I think it's awesome that they delivered ANYTHING before their deadline. Sure, they don't have all the units out, but this is sure a hell of a lot more than what BFL had to show by the end of October. 3 months later we still have stories from them. I'll follow along and say I don't think BFL is taking the money and running, they just don't know how to really make one and it's taking them a lot longer than anticipated.

Congrat's to team avalon.
1000  Other / Meta / SMF Tuning suggestions for theymos on: January 30, 2013, 08:22:21 PM
I searched the forums but didn't really find anything like this.

http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=293441.0

Don't know how much you've tuned what you've already got here but the first couple of suggestions are supposed to help significantly. Some simple and good ones, some that wouldn't work too well here.
