981  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What makes Bitcoins valuable? on: August 25, 2023, 01:06:39 AM
What makes bitcoin most valuable to me is what it does versus fiat currency.  As a financial advisor I've come to absolutely despise the banking industry (most particularly big banks like Chase/Bank of America/Wells Fargo etc).  I saw how corrupt they were first hand so when I found out about bitcoin and it's decentralized nature, I instantly become extremely intrigued.

This is why I think we need to push harder for using bitcoin as a means of payment.
982  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Don't wait for the bottom without buying in the Dip. on: August 25, 2023, 01:01:21 AM
No one has any real clue exactly how things are going to play out.  The best course of action is to simply DCA/Dollar Cost Average in to bitcoin.  Bitcoin could easily jump to 30,000 here in the next few days, or it could just as easily drop down to 20,000 in the same time span.  My recommendations would be to continue to put small amounts in each month.  Or maybe not small, but equal amounts, not trying to time the market.
983  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Responsible Sports Betting Shop Operations on: August 25, 2023, 12:56:53 AM
I'm not sure how to take this. I would want to know how well he had been doing with his bets. Was he winning or losing, or was it somewhere in the middle?

As you mentioned, they could easily just go elsewhere to place the bet, simply side stepping this casino. Is this a smart idea for the casino to make such decisions? Hard to say really.  But if I were this guy, this might be a bit of a wake up call.
984  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: August 25, 2023, 12:52:50 AM
New York Times is reporting a quote from Giannis Antetokounmpo where he alludes to signing with a new team for the first time ever. Definitely trouble for the Bucks. He’s going to play for them this year, but to me it sounds like he’s preparing them for a departure after the season. If he goes to the Warriors and pairs with Curry, it will be the greatest team ever built.

I don't see why he would be leaving the Bucks.  I mean maybe there's internal struggles we haven't heard about, or perhaps things I simply haven't heard about, but lets say he does..greatest team ever? I think that's a bit of a stretch.  Curry is getting old, and although he's still the greatest shooter ever, he's getting old.  Klay isn't the same player he use to be either.

No way that team is better than the 72-10 Bulls.  Though of course I am biased.
985  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin price hits the rock as Space X sells all it's BTC holdings on: August 23, 2023, 08:00:46 PM
I honestly don’t know how Elon musk has done as well in business as he has. I personally think he’s a moron. Maybe not intelligence wise, but personality wise which I don’t think affects his businesses.

If you’ve ever watched the round table discussion with him, Cathie wood and Jack Dorsey you’ll realize he’s got no true clue how bitcoin works. He acted like a complete and utter buffoon during the the whole thing. Was embarrassing.
986  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Has Bitcoin Helped Create Big Changes In Your Life? on: August 23, 2023, 07:54:40 PM
Honestly for me bitcoin has changed my life in a big way and in many different ways. I was actually just talking to a moderator here about how unique even BitcoinTalk is, all the history here and how interesting I find it all, so this has become a place in my life where I spend a lot of time, and I enjoy it. I’ve made a lot of friends because of bitcoin and that’s one of my favorite aspects of it all. It’s definitely changed my life in a positive way.
987  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: August 23, 2023, 07:50:19 PM
^ I have my doubts that Zion will ever be able to play a full 82 game season. He’s just too big to be a professional basketball player. The speed and strength of this guy almost ensures an injury. Healthy, he’s the most dominant player the NBA has seen since Shaq, and more athletic than a young LeBron. If they did figure out how to keep him healthy for the rest of his career, he would no doubt be one of the best to ever do it.

I agree I don’t think that he’s going to have a long stories career due to the fact that his body just seems to have the same type of issues or whatever you want to call it like Greg Oden that you can just tell he’s going to struggle to remain healthy.

I can’t say I agree he’s the most dominant player since Shaq or more athletic than a young Lebron, but he is one heck of a player.
988  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do star players affect the odds of a match bet? on: August 23, 2023, 07:46:37 PM
Lol anyone who’s says anything other than absolutely a star player affects the outcome of the game greatly doesn’t have a clue what they’re talking about.  The star players are what makes a team good, and with out them their teams odds of winning increase drastically.

This is the same reason some sports books won’t list the odds if the playing status of the player is unknown at that moment.
989  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: I can’t cope on my own. What do you think I should do? on: August 23, 2023, 07:41:49 PM
I think you should just quit gambling all together. No offense, but it would seem that you’ve got a bit of a gambling addiction. At least that’s what it sounds like to me. I think you’d be better off that way then you’d not have to worry about losing money. Just take the money you would normally use to gamble and invest it. That’s what I would do.
990  Economy / Economics / Re: Russian ruble is scam on: August 22, 2023, 05:39:44 PM
I actually wasn't aware of this happening.  I would say this is a strong case that shows just how much of a "super power" Russia is not.  We all thought they were going to go in to Ukraine and wipe them out over night, but it wasn't even close.

All fiat money has become a scam.  It's completely manipulated by the government/federal reserves and banks.  This is why I wish more people would focus on bitcoin as a currency rather than an investment.
991  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BITCOIN: Give people time! on: August 22, 2023, 05:34:35 PM
So I went to the Nelly/ Ja Rule concert this past Sunday with a couple buddies of mine. Bitcoin came up somehow, and my buddy in the back of the car (who is completely finance illiterate) said "bitcoin is a scam".  We had a brief convo and explained how it's not and that most altcoins are and he realized he was wrong.  So you're right, give people time but education is the key.
992  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Typical scenario when you are losing on: August 22, 2023, 05:30:50 PM
I would recommend if anyone has to go through this many different things while gambling, then you probably shouldn't be gambling at all.  I have never had any situation where I start to lose because of outside factors.  It's always because I made the wrong bet, or my luck just didn't pan out.  Has never had anything to do with outside factors.  Hard for me to grasp really.
993  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: August 22, 2023, 05:23:50 PM
Woj is reporting this morning that the NBA is fining James Harden $100,000 for his comments about Daryl Morey being a liar. The drama continues as the Sixers are moving forward with the understanding that James Harden will be on their team this year. I wonder if Harden will be a man of his word and sit out if that happens.

I've only partially looked in to this whole ordeal, but it doesn't surprise me, I feel like Harden is always in the  news for the wrong reasons.  I mean theres a reason he bounces from team to team.

I doubt he sits out the whole year, he's getting old and every year counts for him big time..so I just can't see it.
994  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What micro games is best for you? on: August 22, 2023, 05:15:00 PM
Complete waste of time in my opinion.  Any time I'm at a casino or playing online where there's nickel slots or whatever, its kind of fun and all to play, but the odds of winning are just so low that I see it as a complete waste of money.  I would personally rather invest that money in some shitcoin with some potential pump upside.  I guess they can be fun, but mostly a waste IMO.

Diamond Guardian..absolutely love this one. Very relevant with the current times of UFO/UAP alien stuff going on. Thanks Max!!!

996  Economy / Economics / Re: Economic Crash may take bitcoin to 1M dollar on: August 20, 2023, 07:10:02 PM
During economic crashes, EVERYTHING sells off.  I mean, everything.  Let's go back to 2008..nothing was safe.  I remember selling a nice Rado watch because I simply needed the money for like 25% of what I paid for it, because that the best offer I could get.  All collectible items were dirt cheap for years (still regretting not buying a Babe Ruth card I really wanted, plus the Michael Jordan rookie card..they were dirt cheap).

Bitcoin is still a highly volatile asset.  Not only am I certain it will crash, it will crash harder than most asset classes.
997  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wrong way to accumulate. on: August 20, 2023, 07:06:57 PM
People should simply utilize the DCA (dollar cost averaging) system and stick with that, otherwise you're simply trying to play market timing.  The biggest mistake I see people making is buying bitcoin when it starts to really take off.  This of course means you're chasing highs that may end quickly, and then you just bought at the top.  This of course is exactly what NOT to do.
998  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling effects on LGBTQ+ People on: August 20, 2023, 07:03:51 PM
lol this is pathetic.  I'm just going to bluntly say this because it needs to be said, if you're a homophobe and treat people differently because their gay, then you're small minded scumbag.  Period. I have no respect for people who can't accept others.  I know there's plenty of people on this forum from backwards ass nations where being gay can mean penalty of death and it just boggles my mind that we are still having to deal with this nonsense.

Equality for all, black, white, man, woman, gay, straight...who the f cares!  We are all humans, but all of our genetic makeups are different and how people can't understand that I will never understand.
999  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Collective bets in local lotteries on: August 20, 2023, 06:56:02 PM
It seems to me that lotteries still exist only because participation in them has become something like a tradition. In today's fast-paced world, it would never occur to anyone normal to buy a lottery ticket and then wait several weeks for the draw. I think that over time (when modern young people take the place of modern older people), lotteries will finally go into their narrow niche.
On the past lotteries were a form of tax, so if the local government wanted to build a new road and they did not had the money then they will organize a lottery, people bought tickets not only because of the possibility of changing their lives but also to support the construction of this new road that will benefit them, and even if most countries still have their national lotteries and the money is used to fund some projects this idea of supporting your community has been lost, meaning that sooner or later people will realize how bad the lottery is and if they want to gamble they may as well consider other options.

In my country there were even more interesting "lotteries" - for example, government bonds where the lucky ones could also get a serious increase in the amount they contributed. But in the end it ended with the fact that all the bonds were frozen and no one received anything  Grin Therefore, in my country, everything that has the prefix "state" is associated with scam. And by the way, now lotteries are held by private companies, but the license is issued to them by the state and it seems that something like 50% of the fees also goes to the state fund. In short, the lottery is a scam anyway (in my country).

Damn, that's fucked up.  US Treasury bonds are considered the safest investment on the planet, so I would never worry purchasing those, but I can say our state/federally ran lotteries are often rife with scams.  Even my own state of Illinois wasn't paying out winners for a period of time.  I mean it's a rigged game, everyone knows the host keeps a % and the winner gets the rest...so it's a set dollar amount for both.  How that could get misappropriated just shows no gov's can be trusted.
1000  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Between futures trading and gambling on: August 20, 2023, 06:52:47 PM
Stick with gambling.  I say this as a financial advisor who's got some familiarity with futures contracts, also having lived a stones throw away form the the CBOE in Chicago for a few year and having gotten to know some of the options/future traders I learned a bit (outside of the learning I did while studying for the Series 7 , Series 65 and other financial exams).

Futures/forwards/options contracts is serious business and you've really got to know what you're doing...it's too much work for me to be interested in personally  At least as of now. I could see myself shifting to that sector work wise eventually.  But for now, simply sports gambling and casino games it is for me.  I take enough risk market wise in stocks/ETFs etc.
