981  Economy / Collectibles / Re: The $2 Bitcoin legal tender note at JM Bullion on: January 08, 2023, 12:03:30 AM
Cool looking note at JM Bullion. It is Legal Tender. Dont think there is any mintage cap though, still pretty cool.

 https://www.jmbullion.com/2-bitcoin-legal-tender-note/

Uhh, nice. If only they were limited to 1k or something like that. Cheesy

We did a group buy on these last year at some point. A doge one as well.
Oh wow, they probably rode Elon's hype train back then?

Just checked, still available: https://www.jmbullion.com/2-dogecoin-legal-tender-note/

Does anyone how this works - who decide which designs can become legal tender in the US?
Don't think anything like this exists with the Euro.

This is just amazing. When entering and seeing the immense list of prizes the one I was mostly rooting for were the dice. Can't believe I acttually won that lot.
And the socks will go great together with two other pairs I got a few years ago by a fellow Bitcoiner.
983  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Xor or multisig on: January 07, 2023, 03:48:38 PM
Not an expert on the field (yet ; ) but multi-sig 3/5 is a great one to have because it offers a wonderful mix of
- attacker cannot access funds even if they manage to access 2 of the 5 seeds
- very secure even if two of your houses / storage places get burned down (/ are for any other reasons not accessible)

XOR - never heard of it, but if I understood correctly by some of the replies, this would be problematic as soon as one seed-phrase is compromised  lost/destroyed -> You lose all your funds. With 3 places to store them at, it is 3x as likely to happen.
984  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Non-KYC BTC to fiat process on: January 07, 2023, 03:41:02 PM
Thought I already replied to this but it seems to have been a similar topic.

There are some non-KYC exchanges. I like Bisq as it is a decentralized open-source project.
You can read more about it here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5430964

They allow quite a few payment methods including direct bank-cashout.
I guess it will depend on the amount you try to cash out and your bank if you will need any advanced verfication of the sold coins later on.
985  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [2022-12-21] SEC Charges Caroline Ellison and Gary Wang with Defrauding Investor on: January 07, 2023, 03:32:29 PM
Using FTX to launder political donations and things like billions in dollars to Ukraine, and then some coming back to those in power to buy more votes.  It is disgusting.

Yes, it is. I heard rumors about the Samuel Bankman-Fried billions of dollars to Ukraine but I never hear from a trusted source. Is this rumor true?
What do you think about SBF pleading not guilty to the fraudulent charges while Caroline and Gary Wang pleaded guilty to their roles in the FTX bankruptcy despite they are not the prime wrongdoer?

It is a tangled web of individuals responsible for the mess that FTX is/was.
I don't think it's strange to see SBF pleading not guilty - that's the usual way to go about these things. It's more strange to have other directly plea guilty but afaik it's normal if in return you get a deal for a softer sentencing.

Regarding the allegations you mentioned, I wonder that, too. Remember reading something like this on a smaller news site but can't find it again. Probably just some FUD with political agenda that was stopped from spreading too much.
Unless anyone has a good source?

Some nice AI-renders from OP here. It's amazing how well things like cinematic lighting works when done by AI.
I played around with that stuff about 3 months ago. Personally I prefere imaginative art more than realism.

Here are some results (inspired by Halloween themed stuff):

989  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What would you do if you found others' keys? on: January 06, 2023, 11:35:03 PM
What would you do
I'm more curious how this works legally: with "normal" found objects, you have to report it. If nobody picks it up within a year, you become the new owner.
With crypto, you basically find data, and the original owner can still have a backup. I've never seen a legal case about this.
Interesting thoughts. Not at all legal advice, just based on (my own) logic, I would say this is quite similar to finding a house with doors and windows wide open.
Even if you see gold coins glittering inside, you have no right to enter or take anything. You probably don't have any legal obligations to report such a finding (glittery goldcoins in an openly accessible unsecured house) but good manners (or call it moral standards) would suggest you should probably report it to police if you can't contact the owner directly.

Nice catch! FractalEncrypts wooden Full Node sculpture is definetly an insane piece of art.
If the comic were available for less than a quater of its current pricing I'd consider getting one - it does look cool. 0.021 for an edition of 210 just seems off, though.
That being said, there only seems to be one left in stock. hmm

As much as I am amazed to see two votes for my entry from a seemingly random newbie account, I would be in favor to exclude accounts with no trade history and just a handful of meaningless posts so far

This is only reported , the exact damage can be much more than this. If I am right, their security has been breached a number of times in the past as well. One more lesson from this incident is that we should not trust every third party tool especially if we deal with crypto. These tools might lack our data in future resulting in financial crypto loss.

From the article:
"In December, LastPass admitted that if customers had weak Master Passwords, the attackers may be able to use brute force to guess this password, allowing them to decrypt the vaults."

Duh! What else do people expect. Of course an insecure masterpassword will render your account at risk.
The article in question does not make it clear weather any other data was stolen as a fault of lastpass or if just this users master-pw was too weak and thus allowed hackers to (brute)-force their way into his account.
Is there any more information on which data was actually breached regarding lastpass?

In any case: A PW manager should (if at all) only be used to store insignificant data for convenience. Leaving any important passwords / creditcard or passphrases on there is a risk noone should take, imho.

Can seed phrase be memorized? It's advisable to memorize seed phrase?

There is a bunch of memory techniques that can help remember even random sequences of numbers, letters or words.
Usually they require constant practice unless you learned them at a very young age and already have internalized some methods.

Probably the most efficient method for a seed phrase is the story method: https://artofmemory.com/wiki/Story_Method/
You use each word, vizualize it and connect it in a memorable way with the next word. With some practice and repetition this will easily work with a 24-word-seed-phrase.
However, solely relying on it without any other physical backup seems way too risky in my book.

If you want to go crazy, look up methods to remember pi and apply them to a private key (not recommended but if you got too much time on your hands could be fun).

Looks like a clear MS70 candidate.  Cheesy

No idea where 2022 went, but happy 2023 to you, @Spazzer. Still got that LTC quilt, and by mid of this year can hopefully put it up on a wall in my new apartment.

Wow, this reads just like out of a movie script.
An open letter like this is truely a last resort to create public attention and further pressure.
Wonder how this will play out, but we usually know not well for the 300k-and some people affected.

I wonder which tape you listened to. Some oldschool Brian Tracy by chance?

Anyway I like your approach and the idea to "tip before" is something I will keep in mind, it really resonates with me for quite a few (business) occations.
Also kinda curious to see how people react if you actually try that in a restaurant. haha

If that’s possible for him to join via my post. I’ve told him about this raffle and would be happy if he can join but I know their country (in South America) has been suffering a lot from an unstable internet.
Hopefully he’ll be able to post in time himself but not sure if he’ll make it.
