9801  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum's Difficulty Bomb: All Smoke, No Fire? on: April 11, 2017, 01:55:02 AM
@Herbert2020. I cannot see a good reason why you think a centralized Ethereum without needing consensus is good. Come to think of it if they transition to Casper, how much ETH does the Ethereum Foundation control? If the want to keep it in their control then they may have more than 50% of ETH held by the people associated with them. How is that good for a platform that claims code is law?
9802  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UFC 210: Cormier vs Johnson Info and Prediction Thread on: April 11, 2017, 01:38:06 AM
@Hydrogen. I also did not do well. I changed my mind and I bet on Chris Weidman at the last minute and on AJ the day the odds were available the month before the fight.

AJ fought very much like the last time he fought Daniel. I do not think it was about his game plan. Maybe Daniel is a bad match up for him?

Some have said Anthony Johnson doesn't like being punched in the face. Daniel Cormier hit Johnson with a good right hand & that's when Johnson started to wrestle -- maybe because he didn't want to be punched in the face again?

Johnson could also has a tendency to give up easily. He might have gave up when he fought Vitor and also when he fought Cormier the 1st time.

The problem with AJ is if he does not dominate in the 1st and 2nd round, he does not have a game plan on what to do next or maybe he does but he gets caught in the fight and gets discomposed.

There were comments that AJ is weak on the mental side of MMA. I did not totally believe any of it until this fight. His declaration of his retirement has shown it. If that happened to Daniel, he would be asking for a 3rd fight.
9803  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is Segwit for LTC really necessary? Why? on: April 11, 2017, 01:26:34 AM
I cannot think

Correct. You can't think.

Watch and learn.

Next time you'll read what I wrote.

I already debunked this nonsense thread of yours.

But all you said were copy and pasting all your theories and arguments of what you think. Those cannot be proven until it is done in practice. How is that debunking the question if Segwit is really necessary?

The point of the question is if it is necessary now with the current usage of LTC. It will be an improvement I am sure. But is it necessary from the point of view of a user?

You first have to ask yourself, how is it being used now? Why do we need Segwit now to open the roads to a Lightning Network?

Litecoin has one and only one chance to ever get SegWit activated now while LTC is extremely undervalued (because this means miners can form a 75% consensus on rising the price, which won't be otherwise be possible due to the crab bucket game theory that John Nash designed into Satoshi's PoW). That window of opportunity will close and due the crab bucket mentality that Satoshi designed into PoW and never be possible again in the future.

Without off chain LN, there is no other way to scale Satoshi's PoW. I've refuted all the other technological BS such as larger blocks and Xthin.

Bitcoin will NEVER get scaling.

Litecoin MUST get scaling NOW. And it will. And it will receive all the transaction rate scaling that Bitcoin will NEVER be able to do.

Please don't make me explain this again.

You are saying that making litecoin scale now is needed, but for what? There are no assurances that the cryptocoin users will all go and use it. There is also the possibility that it will have a scalable platform ready to be used but with not enough transactions to make the move to activate segwit defensible.

Your theory is good and I try to understand all your posts. I am trying to play the devil's advocate to get a good discussion on the topic. We have the scalability issue thrown around in the forum a lot and no one has really asked the question what for? or is it really needed?.
9804  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Who Needs VC? Ethereum and the JOBS Act Could Change Investing on: April 11, 2017, 01:14:41 AM
The article started with this sentence.

Finance is already on the verge of being disrupted, thanks to blockchain platforms like ethereum.

Are they trying to hype Ethereum again? At first I really believed in the Ethereum Foundation and what goals they were trying to reach. But now after the hard fork, the tweaking of their blockchain's transaction history and the incapacity to scale the platform, how can they make claims that finance is already on the verge of being disrupted?

Everything about it is not that well tested yet.

@LTU_btc. Do not count the Red Bulls out yet. They will have new engine upgrades out starting at the race in Canada or Monaco according to some news articles. I hope we see Max or Daniel win a race or 2.

9807  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Ethereum's Difficulty Bomb: All Smoke, No Fire? on: April 10, 2017, 01:22:09 AM
If there was no Ethereum Classic, then the Ethereum Foundation's planned transition to Casper will have no big risks. But it is there with a strong development team behind it. If in case Casper does not work as planned what would happen to the platform now? Will the things that were built in it like Augur be ported to Ethereum Classic?

Another question is will the Ethereum Foundation delay the transition? I speculate they will delay it indefinitely because they cannot take that risk. The next question is what other risks are they taking by diffusing the difficulty bomb?

Time bomb

But, two things could go wrong with ethereum's big switch.

One would be if Casper does not work as planned. In this case, ethereum could simply delay the switchover. The second is if miners continue mining the old chain. But ethereum has always had a plan for that – something called the 'difficulty bomb'.

Baked into ethereum shortly after the network launched, the difficulty bomb was created to make mining a block increasingly difficult over time. The slowdown is set to happen gradually at first, but will spike upward after the launch of Casper.

When mining requires more work, miners are not able to produce as many blocks. The block time gets longer and, as a result, miners earn less and less revenue. Eventually, the network just becomes unusable.

9809  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-04-09] Armory opposes Hard-Forks, supports SegWit on: April 10, 2017, 12:55:43 AM
There is now an inclination for the established Bitcoin services and businesses in showing which application they prefer to support. Like XT and Bitcoin Classic from before, the larger part of the community will start rejecting the hard fork and will not take it seriously. Other new sites are already saying that Bitcoin Unlimited node count is now going down. Was the asic boost scandal the cause?

Armory Rejects BTU

The majority of Bitcoin enterprises and operators turned down Bitcoin Unlimited because of problems in decentralization and security.

Andrew Chow (Goat Pig), lead developer of Armory, explained Armory does not view the philosophy of BTU to let miners choose the Block size appropriate for BTCs blockchain. He emphasized that the block size must not be decided by votes of users and miners. The block size limit is not a magic number. Voting on this number does not improve the restriction. The only tolerable solution is algorithmic and not the technical metric.

9811  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-04-07] Canadian Companies Unanimously Reject Bitcoin Unlimited on: April 08, 2017, 04:23:17 AM
If the supporters of Bitcoin Unlimited think things will be smooth after a hard fork, they will be in for a big disappoinment. I speculate it will be the supporters of the hard fork themselves who will start blaming the BU development team for trying to break everything down.

Not a Practical Solution

Bitcoin Unlimited is not feasible. Canadian enterprises pointed out Bitcoin Unlimited will not and must not be forked due to economic and technical reasons. This is regardless of threats made by some miners to stage a so-called “51%” attack against the Bitcoin network to fork said software.

Francis Pouliot, chief executive officer of Satoshi Portal and incumbent Bitcoin Embassy director, said Canadian enterprises will not incorporate the Bitcoin Unlimited token in their respective services or merchandise. He reiterated companies will not trade BTU or list it as alternative virtual currency. Enterprises will adopt another approach toward BTU and the very small likelihood it will be forked or introduced in the market. These businesses insist the software contradicts the BTC software.

Meanwhile, majority of Bitcoin exchanges worldwide (BTCC, Bit Stamp and BITIFINEX) clarified if Bitcoin Unlimited is released, this will be attributed to users and opened for trading on platforms as alternative coin. This is different from the BTC network. The Bitcoin market in Canada asked other industry participants to spell out their position on hardfork contingency. They also assured BTC users the crypto currency will become stronger moving forward. Mr. Pouliot urged economic nodes globally to clarify their outlooks and affirm their role as principal constituents of Bitcoin consensus.

9812  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Is Segwit for LTC really necessary? Why? on: April 08, 2017, 04:12:32 AM
I cannot think of a practical reason why Segwit needs to be activated in LTC if the coin itself does not attract enough users to make it necessary. What if it becomes activated but nobody uses it? What good is it if it is not really that necessary?
9813  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UFC 210: Cormier vs Johnson Info and Prediction Thread on: April 07, 2017, 12:43:21 AM
I think it's unfortunate that DC gets always the worst odds. How can he be the underdog? DC is obviously not the underdog in this fight, he will probably win, AJ will need luck to catch him.
It is good to have Daniel Cormier as the underdog and if he wins, its more money as simple as that. Smiley Johnson is a knock out artist and that makes a difference in the minds of odds makers but i am interested to hear the trash talking by Gegard Mousasi,it is really funny to hear him speak like that because now a days people are forced to talk trash to get title fights. Cheesy and i am backing Mousasi to with the fight simply because of his fight experience from middle weight to heavyweight and has defeated Mark Hunt  Shocked Jacare Souza even though he lost the second fight to a much improved Souza it is a feather in his cap and he was a light heavy and middle weight weight champion in Dream and a Strikeforce light heavy weight champion and with 49 fights and 41 wins and just 6 losses it is impressive and he is just 31 years of age.

But it also means that if Daniel Cormier has become the underdog then the smart bettors who have the access to more information than us have bet heavy on AJ, which also means they know there is a greater likelihood that Daniel will lose.

It is not really that simple. There is a reason why we keep losing in sportsbets.

@shinratensei_. Litecoin at 25 dollars is not impossible. Dash and Ethereum has now shown us that giant increases in price to 50 - 100 are now very possible for an altcoin which was something considered very rare 2 years ago. I speculate we will see more of it in the next 3 years.
9815  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-4-5] Japan to reach 265,000 bitcoin-accepting merchants by this summer on: April 07, 2017, 12:20:06 AM
While this is surely good news for all of us followers of bitcoin and the cryptospace, how can that really be beneficial to the merchants if the majority of bitcoin users would prefer to hold them in cold storage than using them to spend? When do you think will it become the more attractive choice or the preferred way to buy items online and offline?

The merchants must offer good discounts if payments are made in bitcoin to make it more encouraging to use.

If you’ve been following crypto news during the last couple of days, then chances are that you have heard about Japan legally classifying bitcoin as an actual currency, which can be used to sell and purchase products and services.

While the decision comes along with both advantages and disadvantages, it is thought that in the long run, it will represent a great event for the realm of digital currency. Recently, economic analysts have predicted that Japan’s classification of bitcoin, making it a payment method, will likely trigger a large boom throughout the country in terms of adoption, as retailers from all around Japan will jump at the opportunity to accept bitcoin as a means of payment.

Back in 2016, Japanese officials decided to end the 8% tax that was placed on purchasing the cryptocurrency through exchanges, and this has surely helped retailers better foster their confidence in the bitcoin industry present in Japan. Reports indicate that by the end of 2016, there were roughly 4,000 merchants which accept the coin throughout the country, which is nearly 4 times the number of merchants doing the same in 2015.

9816  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Segwit in LTC is almost here on: April 06, 2017, 01:01:36 AM
The market is reacting positively as Segwit for litecoin nears. The price is going up in Poloniex and at the other exchanges and this might take the cryptocoin back to its rightful place in the top 3 and some loyalists would go far and say the silver to bitcoin's gold at top 2 in coinmarketcap.com.

Who here shares the same opinion?

Litecoin Moves Within 5% of its SegWit Activation Threshold

The litecoin network appears to be on the cusp of enacting a technical upgrade that would boost the capacity of its network.

At press time, just over 70% of litecoin's miners were signaling support for Segregated Witness, a technical innovation first pitched as a scaling solution for the bitcoin blockchain, but that has not yet seen similar levels of adoption from its miners.

With increasing support, litecoin is now just 5% shy away from achieving the 75% network consensus threshold required for activation. On bitcoin, by contrast, just 31% of miners are signaling that they would support the software upgrade.

Notably, litecoin first began offering miners the ability to flag support for the proposal on 3rd February, nearly three months after the code was released to the bitcoin network.

Going forward, two large mining pools have yet to signal their intention to activate SegWit, and thus could ultimately prove the deciding vote.

Lewis will win this coming race. The Mercedes cars are faster in the straights and the track in China has one of the longest straights in Formula 1. He will win in qualifying and the race smoothly without any not so well timed pit stops this time. Sebastian will be 2nd and Valterri 3rd, but there is a chance Kimi could get to the podium.

9819  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is there any place to gamble IF the Mayweather vs McGregor fight will happen? on: April 06, 2017, 12:40:01 AM
I agree. Floyd Mayweather will win this fight on points. But will it be he beating up Conor McGregor to a pulp? I do not think so. Both fighters are counter punchers and we might not see a lot of action between them.

The title of the news said the word batters. There was nothing that Shawn Porter said that Floyd will batter Conor. How can anyone say that by watching 1 leaked footage.

If in case this fight pushes through, and both fighters eill slig it out, then my money's definitely on connor. Mayweather's technique is based mostly in avoiding being hit. I don't think he can survive if he trades punches with mcgregor though if the fight is going to be pure boxing, i agree that floyd will win on points. I don't think he would even agree to do an mma fight with anyone since his technique can't be applied there

No, Floyd will not slug it out with Connor. If even he slug it out, Connor would have a hard time hitting Floyd clean. Floyd will adjust his game with Connor, but Connor can't. Of course, this will be pure boxing, not a mma because Floyd will be a disadvantage. Connor will try to let this fight not a boring one, but knowing how Floyd's style, this will be a non-exciting fight.

All Floyd got to do is do his usual routine, jab jab jab, shoulder roll, keep a distance using his long reach, find some good angle and throw a right from time to time. The KO would start to show at around round 6 when Connor starts losing his mind as the boxing match becomes endless in front of an elusive Mayweather.

Conor has to be very aggressive in rounds 1 and 2 or else he's done for.

Both fighters counter punchers. Conor will chase him for a while but this will end up with 12 rounds of nothing. 2 fighter waiting and maybe there will be a few occasional exchanges but still there will be nothing. At the end of the day the fighters, the promoters and the sports media are laughing all the way to the bank after the fight.
9820  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UFC 210: Cormier vs Johnson Info and Prediction Thread on: April 06, 2017, 12:29:03 AM
@pereira4. I am positive AJ has learned a lot from their first fight. Dan Hardy outlined it correctly in the Inside the Octagon video posted by tokeweed. AJ will keep his distance and he will avoid doing any dirty boxing with Daniel in the 1st and 2nd rounds. If AJ gets a clean hit he should also try to avoid getting excited and throw too much strikes so that he will not gas out.

Also AJ improved more than Daniel since the first fight.
