9941  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is actually use of SegWit? on: November 15, 2016, 12:10:55 PM
Everything that was quoted in your post is specifically regarding the malleability fix. However, there are plenty of other benefits down below:
  • Linear scaling of sighash operations
  • Signing of input values
  • Increased security for multisig via pay-to-script-hash (P2SH)
  • Script versioning
  • Reducing UTXO growth
  • Efficiency gains when not verifying signatures
  • Block capacity/size increase
  • Moving towards a single combined block limit
Each one has been described further down in the post.

I hope i can get some ideas and learn something about this Segwit added from wallets.
Keep in mind that in order to make Segwit transactions you have to update your wallet to one that supports Segwit. [/list]
9942  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where would Bitcoin be without XT and Unlimited? on: November 15, 2016, 08:33:43 AM
much like Pieter Wuille implemented levelDB before actually doing any backward compatibility bug tests to see how it would effect the blockchain in 2013.. and whooops it split the chain..
No. That is entirely different. He's not the only person to blame there, as the code was reviewed by others.

Was it not Satoshi himself that placed the 1mb hard cap on the size of the blocks?
Yes he/she/it did in order to combat spam, the same spam which we're dealing with today.

Or he's dead or in a prison, we will never know...
I'm pretty sure his identity is still sound, so definitely a no on the prison part.
9943  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: New SegWit stats? on: November 15, 2016, 08:19:16 AM
Sorry for reviving this topic but afaik today a segwit vote starts, am I right?
Are there any stats now?
No. Segwit signaling will start after the first re-targeting after 15/11 (which is today). The first re-targeting should happen around the 18th of November. Anyhow, soft forks take time to activate so don't expect everyone on board in the first few days.

I'm pretty confident that a successful activation is going to have a positive effect on the price, especially after >1MB blocks start getting mined.

9945  Other / New forum software / Re: Once we upgrade ? on: November 14, 2016, 10:59:01 PM
As it currently stands you need to have control over your e-mail address in order to reset the password (for safety) in order to use the Beta. I'm pretty sure that something similar will be used once a *full* transitional phase is in check. However, you will be informed on time so there is no need to worry/speculate just yet.
9946  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where would Bitcoin be without XT and Unlimited? on: November 14, 2016, 06:29:19 PM
I was just wondering, where Bitcoin would have been, if Satoshi was still around?
FYI Satoshi was not particularly good in coding, and Bitcoin is probably much better off without a leader (although Satoshi may be around under a different alias).

Would Satoshi have tolerated all this bickering and fighting about Bitcoin XT or Unlimited?
Even if he/she/it did or did not, it would have changed nothing.

Would Satoshi have scaled quicker?
If he/she/it wanted to kill decentralization, then the answer is probably yes.

What would the Block size have been?
We can only speculate at this point.

Satoshi's code was sloppy, but it was effective.
You mean effective in creating bugs, like the one that broke the Bitcoin supply?

Well done to the ones who were lucky enough!  Smiley
Has nothing to do with luck. Someone was either using a script or a bot, and I confirmed this on the last order today. They ordered it within <2-3 seconds which is impossible for a human. This applies for the last two orders. I can not say anything regarding the previous ones as I was not there to witness them.
9948  Other / Meta / Re: Why this quote is not working? on: November 13, 2016, 12:02:31 PM
That functionality was disabled long ago (if it even was ever available?). Theymos has most likely made changes in the background (code) to enable the video to be embedded and autoplayed in this specific post.
9949  Other / Meta / Re: Can we add advertising bounties section? on: November 13, 2016, 11:15:54 AM
A section for only campaign managers and signature/avatar/PM/FB/Twitter/social media advertising in general, the pay rates and payment methods etc.
This was already suggested for Signature Campaigns as a sub-board of services a few times. I guess it could incorporate all the mentioned above.

We can have a mandatory escrow to be used and then those with no escrow or low pay rates asking for too much posts to be made daily or weekly which results in spam and low quality.
The forum should not force users/services to use escrow.

Also is there any way that someone could just select the different sections before adding signature to account those sections which are not accepted by the campaign manager and posting there will pay 0 just make those sections appear in a different color while for example we tick them sections something like when we select boards to be ignored.
No.

I would honestly not mind this change. Such threads constantly get bumped up, so even when not high in number they push down the other services quite frequently and damage exposure.

I am taking over as manager of this campaign. Please refer all applications and or questions to the new thread
Which is where please?

OP you should lock this one.

Finally, a win for the community! Good luck Yahoo, I'll keep an eye out for potential alts and farmers.

Where can we find the SMAS?
Here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1545652.0

is the blacklist permanent?
Usually not. You can ask for a secondary review after some time (read the thread), but considering that you have multiple alts enrolled in campaigns, then it's permanent (IMO).
9952  Economy / Services / Re: [OPEN] | Bitmixer.io Signature Campaign | Earn up to 0.035 BTC/week on: November 13, 2016, 12:10:13 AM
On the subject: is there any policy regarding advertising other businesses via avatar + personal text?
Not that I'm aware of. I've checked the old thread and found no official stance from Bitmixer regarding this.

I guess what's not forbidden is allowed, but common sense suggests that Bitmixer probably wouldn't be very happy if someone advertised their direct competitors (other mixers).
Correct. I'd probably warn a user promoting a direct competitor first.

Hey Lauda, would the Bitmixer team be interested in purchasing my avatar space?
Hello.
I'm a different kind of manager (I don't enroll nor pay people; I just ban offenders) and have no connections to Bitmixer aside from that. If you are interested in custom dealings with Bitmixer, you should contact them directly via their profile (which is not likely to work as they have not logged in for a while) or contacting them via their email. Generally, you're more likely to secure such a deal somewhere else much more quickly.

9955  Economy / Services / Re: [OPEN] | Bitmixer.io Signature Campaign | Earn up to 0.035 BTC/week on: November 12, 2016, 07:52:01 PM
I didn't have even a week in this campaign and I got banned?
I do not have data on date of joining, thus all users are treated equally in this regard.

After joining here i start to improve the quality of my posts and I am aware that I have to post in different sections
You should have sent me a PM regarding this then. Now it is too late until Bitmixer gives me an unban option. Good luck with other campaigns though.

OP is not updated.. is there a way to search a name in the whole thread? No right?
Mexxer is inactive. No, there isn't really a convenient way to search through this thread. Maybe someone should just create a duplicate thread and continue working on this (I could do it, if the other users participating agree to this) and ask for an archival of this thread.
9958  Economy / Reputation / Re: MISTAKE: I got a negative trust for doing NOTHING! on: November 12, 2016, 02:14:12 PM
They give this guy a negative DT rating but don't bother with confronting the lazy campaign manager that is enabling this spam to go on. That doesn't make sense to me.
False assumption. I've been contacting several managers and campaigns regarding this issues. Some of us are also working on another method of combating spam.

The problem here is if she felt he was spamming so badly that he deserves a negative rating then why didn't she delete his spam?
I can't delete it. Even if I could, it would have little effect. It is pretty impossible to clean up after every spammer.

In addition as I am curious, did this user receive any sort of warning beforehand about his behavior? I've been found guilty of spam myself but staff didn't come at me with negative trust they simply deleted the posts they considered spam from different threads.
No. This isn't an action from a staff member, but rather a member of the default trust system. Those are not necessarily connected.

P.S. Look at the findings from rizzarolla.
