9941  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: What is the easiest way to download whole blockchain in Bitcoin-qt? on: June 06, 2014, 12:34:21 PM
-snip-
Thanks! Yeah I know I must download the files via torrent. I am using both Multibit and Bitcoin-qt. Bitcoin-qt for solo mining. My main BTC address is in Multibit. I am thinking about exporting that into Bitcoin-qt via Pywallet.
Kindly,
       Muhammed Zakhir

As I read in the other thread installing pywallet is not working for you very well.

You can just export the private keys from multibit (here is a step by step) and import them into bitcoin qt/core (via Help -> Debug window -> console -> importprivkey 5thisISmyPRIVATEkey "label/info" rescan )

This will make your old backups of the wallet.dat useless though, since there are keys missing. So when you are done importing make a new backup. This can also compromise your private keys, as you will need them unencrypted (export without password or decrypt by hand). So it might be wiser to just transfer all your coins from the multibit wallet over the blockchain to one (or more) of your bitcoin core address(es).
9942  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Can anybody explain HW errors to me like I am a five year old?? on: June 06, 2014, 11:29:00 AM
Could HW errors stem from a pool as well?

No, the pool is just giving your machine something to work on and gets the result. While the pool has hardware, the pool itself does not do the calculation. Even if the pool would do some calculations your machine should not be able to detect if any other machine makes calculation mistakes. That would be like me checking whether your CPU is fine just because I download data from you via bittorrent (or something else)
9943  Other / MultiBit / Re: Is the .key file all I need to backup my coins? on: June 06, 2014, 06:15:49 AM
-snip-
So if I wanted to back up my coins, is the coins.key file that is produced using the "Export Private Keys" feature all that I need to keep my coins safe or do I need to backup the other files as well (e.g. coins.wallet file, coins.info file, everything in the coins-data folder)?

Exporting the private keys is enough for you to regain your coins.
9944  Other / Meta / Re: Ironic if this image don't load to show image proxy sucks? on: June 05, 2014, 08:39:58 PM
Given the funds at disposal of the forum admins, they should be able to fund a perfectly fast image proxy. It could be a good thing, *if it worked properly*. I mean how hard can it be for a proxy to download and host an image? It should be working perfectly in a matter of seconds...

Sometimes its better to just let the old stuff go and make something new...

9945  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Can anybody explain HW errors to me like I am a five year old?? on: June 05, 2014, 08:26:39 PM
A miner is more than just one single chip that either works or does not work. A hardware error is basically just a calculation that went wrong.

E.g. you want to calculate 1 + 2 and you know that the result must be odd so when you get 4 you know an error happend, just not which and where. With simple checks like these computers can check if they are working correct or not.

Your miner does this in a similar fashion. It can check whether its fully working or just 9 out of 10 chips.

It is even possible that the chip itself is not damaged but still gets a calculation wrong from time to time. This can happen due to fluctuations in electricity or temperature.

If you make sure that your chips are reasonably temperated (30°C would be perfect, but 50°C is usually fine) and the power supply has a little extra power (~10%) you should be fine.

Overclocking can also be a cause as well as age. Overclocking and heat speeds the aging of a chip. Overclocking usually comes with a increase in power demand as well, which can be another aging factor. Its basically a time/power tradeoff. Your chips will give you more power but die sooner.

Not exactly 5 year old, but if you have further questions feel free to ask Smiley

9948  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: What is the easiest way to download whole blockchain in Bitcoin-qt? on: June 05, 2014, 06:18:27 PM
You should download the bootstrap.dat torrent and put it in the Bitcoin data directory (usually C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin). Then start up Bitcoin Core and it will read the blockchain from there.

Well you dont put the torrent in that directory (which is only correct if you use windows anyway). You open it with your favorit bittorrent tool and put the bootstrap.dat in the that directory. Make sure bitcoin is not running when you copy it there and start normally. It will not download the complete blockchain but a big part of it.

Hello!
Is there any easiest way to download whole blockchain? If there is any torrent file it would be better for me. I found a few ways to boost syncing speed but you know it takes a lot of time.
Kindly,
       Muhammed Zakhir

You can also use another client like electrum or multibit that does not need the whole blockchain. They setup in a few minutes and are ready to go.
9949  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Setting up a server side online wallet on: June 05, 2014, 06:13:05 PM
You want to setup bitcoind. Host would be the IP of your server or 127.0.0.1 if its the same. Port is usually 8332 but you can change that to your needs. Login and password will be set in the config for bitcoind
9950  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: ★ Your thought on my Bitcoin Client UI idea ★ on: June 05, 2014, 06:07:04 PM
1st thought: Why would someone want a wallet with a chat?

Social engineering.  Tongue

Wouldnt that be a chat with my wallet? Oh wait...

Chat is a matter of taste. For bank transfers you can leave a message, as well, so it would be useful to link the message more closely with the payment.

I think Bitcoin wallets could in general use a better design and this looks good to me!

This would only help if the other person also uses the same wallet. Same with blockchain.info. The messages you can attach are only shown on their homepage.

But IIRC there is a way to sqeeze some information into an transaction. With sequence_no and and lock time 0 or something like that. Gives you a few bytes worth of data. Not 100% sure if this is correct and I cant seem to find the thread where this was discussed. But this would probably not satisfy most people anyway.

-snip-
you can attach a public message to bitcoin transactions already. Much longer than bank transfers

I think there is a missunderstanding here, but feel free to prove me wrong. How exactly would I do this?
9951  Other / Meta / Re: Question forum on: June 05, 2014, 05:53:45 PM
It looks like you are either using some sort of translator (google?) or you have problems writing in english. Maybe you can get an answer here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=11.0 or in one subboards for a specific language.

The way I understand your question is: Do many use one of the following services:

I personally use Email a lot and none of the other services you listed.
9952  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help Me Using Bitcoin-qt. on: June 05, 2014, 03:53:00 PM
Sorry, just a quick reply (got to run...), there is a sample .conf file on the same wiki page. Did you have look? You can edit it using notepad for example.

Every line with a # will be ignored. Lines without # will be processed.

Also, as mentioned before, what are you trying to achieve?

Its okay. I want to increase syncing speed with -dbcache ( something like that, I am in other computer, I don't remember the command correctly). Anyway thanks for helping!  Smiley
Kindly,
        Muhammed Zakhir

The bottleneck with synching is not your CPU but your bandwith. You can however speed up the starting proccess by lowering checkblocks from 288 to e.g. 100 or even 10.

9954  Economy / Services / Re: [PrimeDice] [Highest Paid Signature] Earn up to 2.4 BTC/Month by Posting on: June 05, 2014, 12:56:47 PM
After last month's payment Stunna left some positive trust for me (and many others).  However, I now see it is gone.  Is this just the trust system being wonky or did Stunna delete it?  I'm cool either way, just curious, is it discussed anywhere?

No doubt this signature campaign is the best, thanks Stunna!

Its discussed a few pages back, Stunna did remove it.
9955  Other / Meta / Re: Cannot post with proxy on: June 05, 2014, 07:38:18 AM
Then how did you post this thread..?
What proxy are you trying to use?
Have you tried TOR?

Thanks for all of the information, really.

But then again, you're a Newbie, so you're probably on the post-time limit.

can we just let this sink down please? OP asked a question and probably never read the first answer. There is no need to drag this up again and ask questions that will never get answered anyway.
9956  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Help ! Unconfirmed transaction on: June 05, 2014, 07:34:21 AM

Still unconfirmed at that time and 5 hours have been passed.
How long is the average transaction time for transaction without fee (need 3 confirmations) ?

according to the blockchain.info :
Quote
Estimated Confirmation Time    Within 6 Blocks (Medium Priority)

within 6 blocks - I would say in next ~3-5 hours Wink
Next time to make it easier don't forget to add a minimum fee.

Regards.

I dont know where blockchain.info gets that estimation, but TX's without fees can take a week (and probably even longer) to get the first confirmation. After that its a matter of blocks beeing found.

I think they use the "age" of the input for the priority which is usually fine if you pay a fee. On the other hand your TX is usually in the next block if you pay a fee anyway.

1st thought: Why would someone want a wallet with a chat?

Amazing...this would completely eliminate my need for skype or any IM when doing deals via bitcoin.
This would be great to see developed

Well, ok thats a point.

Anyway I have a very bad feeling about a chat or anything else in the same thread as my wallet. If the chat has the same stack as the wallet this is a big security problem about to happen. Also how would that friendslist/chat work anyway?

-snip-
I would also like to know what feature you would like in a Bitcoin Client ?
-snip-

Its a wallet, make it safer! Make it easier to use safely, dont add fancy stuff that might breach security.
9958  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: okcoin real volume on: June 05, 2014, 07:15:02 AM
Bitcoincharts now show okcoin to have the highest trade volume: http://bitcoincharts.com/charts/volumepie/

I guess, it's possible if they have 0% fees, but is there a way to tell if it's another Willie doing that?

I've looked at this volume chart in the past, but can you tell what time period this accounts for? Is it the last 24 hours? Last hour? etc... Difficult to know.

With that said, I've heard Tmall has more traffic that Amazon and eBay combined.

Bitcoincharts uses daily intervals (UTC) to display data. For example, the volume of a market will usually be zero at midnight (UTC) and increase during the day.

What we're trying to do is more like a business where our writers cater to the customers-not an open market kind of thing

Id say you have a market here, but Id also advice you to stay open for other forms of payment. While new coins or projects will need texts written I am not sure that the demand will be high enough. You can start with minimal investment by just opening a thread in the service section offering your (employees) skills.

Is only your knowledge of the market limited or also your experience with bitcoin as a form of payment?
9960  Other / Meta / Re: Is not it referral spam ? on: June 04, 2014, 05:19:39 PM
No, because the ref links are not the sole purpose of the post.

There is much more than just links

Hello everybody !
In this post I'll talk about ways to earn bitcoin (or satochis  Cheesy )

I know bitcoins since 2010 and I have mined a bit at the time, but I still made some faucets and Paid-to-Click.
Now at the time, I think faucets were a bit more generous.
In my opinion, the main difference between today and a few years ago is that before faucets were maintained by generous people trying to get community (or newbies) involved in Bitcoin world.
Now faucets are a new business, there is no more donations to faucets, because their main motivation is profit. Maybe that was also caused my faucet's members who abused the system (with bots and/or botnets). Well at the end, faucets give now a much little reward.

A few weeks ago, my wallet was hacked, and someone stole the coins I made mining. I lost some money in the process, but I got what I deserved, I should have secured them better.

So I am now back in the start.

I tried to make some money with faucets, but most of them are useless, they have pages loaded with ads and have an anoying difficult captcha (I have to try 2 or even 3 times sometimes).

So I looked for other methods, but as you know there is no miracle. All ways are tough and annoying, but I managed to make a few mBTC in a few days without much work (but it required many time  Grin )

-snip-
The last one is the most important in my opinion, this site offers the possibility to do some tasks and they pay you for each task you do. It's boring and repetitive, but you can make much more doing this than going to every faucet and type captchas.

Faucets gives a average of 100 satoshis that is a fraction of a cent (0.0007$) and requires an average of 1 minute.
By doing tasks I make 5000 satochis for 3-4 minutes that is 1250 per minute. So it's 12 times more profitable.
I still do the faucets I listed for fun, but I don't expect (or earn) anything significant with it.

Don't lose your time !
