Except none of the subscription providers have a "muppet army".  In fact, when they all agree, price tends to move the other direction.  There are just as many sharks who subscribe as sheep.  The newsletters are merely indicators, and sometimes are contrarian when they are too one sided.

Wow!  Sounds valuable.  How have I survived so long without such an indispensable resource?  Where do I sign up Corporal Sockman?

9943  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A public apology to Donald, Patrick and Amir ("Intersango guys") on: May 18, 2012, 07:51:42 PM
If "Bitcoinica Consultancy" is handling things now, why didn't they notify us of the claims page rather than zhoutong? The more I hear from zhoutong, and less from intersango or whatever they call themselves, the more I lose confidence in the new owner/operators.
This +1. To start with, we never saw any communication from them indicating that anything that Zhoutong said was in any way incorrect, or that there was need of an apology to begin with. Of course, that could have been communicated privately, but from what I have seen so far even Zhoutong himself is becoming frustrated with the obvious stonewalling that we are seeing from the Consultancy.

Indeed, stonewalling is the best description that I can imagine for this series of events; to the public, and to those that wish to fix the problems, as it appears - since access to even the domain name has been fraught with problems such as a poor DNS implementation, leading to those that don't even use the forum to be forced to come here and find out the problem, and wait here for a resolution.

From what I've observed, I have a different perspective. The Intersango guys were brought to help with security not PR. For them to take any position of public communications would have been a breach of contract. The fact that Zhou had to become a team player for his creation caused him a lot of frustration. He was the main PR man up till the incident and should have followed through with a splash page and daily email updates (not just the forum), but instead we got a "I'm leaving Bitcoin" thread. He left when the going got tough. Sure, feelings were hurt and emotions were high. Zhou, if you really want to be proud of what you started then get back to doing the PR and be a team player even if you don't agree. You should leave Bitcoinica on much better conditions if it something you really want to be proud of!

One of the things I've admired most about Zhou Tong's work is that he seems to make good estimates of fair dispute resolution, then further errors on the customers side even when it costs him personally.  If the new owners to not share this mode of operation, being a 'team player' could make ZT a lot of things but I could certainly understand if 'proud' was not one of them.

9944  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A public apology to Donald, Patrick and Amir ("Intersango guys") on: May 18, 2012, 06:54:08 PM

That is really bizarre.  Behavior like this speaks allot about the nature of the one behind it's premeditation.  Juvenile for one, and why those three words?  Designed to instill fear in the minds of those that find the message.  Allot went into them being embedded in the transaction.  More than likely a troll shunned by the community here.  If this heist had been done by some group within TPTB in-order to derail BitCoin progress, I doubt they would go to all this trouble, no this is the mind of a Jack The Ripper type personality, and my guess a solo individual.

It's heartening to know that we've got Dayle Hinman on the case!

Good thing I bought a little at $1529   Grin
What did you pay for it on a per ounce basis?

(In case you missed it, I bought a bit recently at around $1600 and paid around $1650.  A lot of us are interested in the difference between the 'paper price' and what it costs to get weight in our palms...and this factor shifts around.)
I paid 2% over spot.
That's much better than I typically get even in the best of times.  Your dealer is good to you.  hopefully.
thats b/c everyone is selling... Grin

Hopefully that are selling Au and not W...and are delivering.  APMEX seems to want $1675 for a KR today.

Basically, the point boils down to something ridiculously simple that everyone already knows -- that we don't have data from the future.  Now, if Cypherdoc gave a specific time-frame for his prediction of 6-12 months (again, for example), then we'd have something to work with.  But "many months to years" covers one hell of a lot of ground.

how many years cypherdoc? Are you willing to put a maximum time? 3 years? 5 years? 10 years?

That way, this thread could be closed at some point in the future Wink. "many months to years" is just too open-ended to ever call your "prediction" right or wrong.

Nice try.  I've already made my prediction time commitment in my Newsletter.  Sorry.

Too bad my subscription ran out... it was fun while it lastet. I want to thank you here for an enjoyable month of interesting and plentiful updates Wink

The Muppet Army shrinks by one.  Maybe it's time to implement a re-enlistment bonus?

5.)  True, it doesn't make him wrong.  But I would suggest that it is more likely to make him wrong than if he were not a stakeholder.

...
5) I would disagree with that.  If he were not a stakeholder he would pay far less attention.

...
5)  Depends on which is more immediately profitable to him, important to him, etc....his subscription service or his investments.

Most brokers probably burn there books at least once in their careers.  If you've got a muppet army and are working in such a thin market as Bitcoin where an opportunity to swing it might pop up, why not?  Coordinate with Waveaddict and S#### and you could probably make a (veritable) killing.

My home sits on one acre of land, as do the the two homes east of me and the two homes west of me. That's five acres. If somebody yelled from the corner of the second house to the left, another person would have no problem hearing it at the opposite corner of the second house on the right.

btw, tvbcof, how about my call on this stock mkt top?

Didn't notice.  As I've said, I don't give two shits about the stock market or any form of paper.  But that you might have suspected the stock market being overbought does not make you a financial wizard in my book.  Seems like one of the bigger no-brainers to me.

then you have no idea how hard it is to call a top or bottom.  and i accept the fact that you might not care.  you yourself said you're not a professional but there are those of us who are.

just b/c you don't care doesn't mean that technical analysis doesn't work or that there can't be ppl who do it well.

there are alot of ppl that do care though b/c the swings in markets can be >50% and a lot of money can be made playing the swings both up and down.

I've never listened to 'financial professionals' and have never regretted it.  The only thing standing between 95% of day-trader types and homelessness is 'time' in my observation, and having been in the middle of the dot-com bubble I've certainly made some observations here.

sure, if you just want to buy your gold and go hide in a hole thats fine.  there are those of us though that are more nuanced than you.

(On a serious note...)

I've stated publicly that I've sunk 5 figures into Bitcoin and hold my position and am currently at about a 20% loss.  Most likely I'll be the first to say so if/when I adjust it since it is not my nature to make shit up for the purposes of influencing the market.  I personally doubt that doing this works very well, but that's only part of the reason.

I would be utterly delighted to see Bitcoin take off both because it would enrich me personally and because I think the general solution has a damn good chance of being a big positive for humanity.

I also have enough of a technical understanding of the Bitcoin implementation to have some serious questions about certain aspects of it.  Thus, even if I do want to see the solution take off, I also would feel uncomfortable pumping it as a primary means of wealth preservation.  It's a side-bet for me, and I earnestly feel that it should be the same for almost everyone else.

Parenthetically, you've never heard me tell anyone that they should be as overweight in PMs as I am.  This is both because I am not qualified to give financial advice and also I don't believe that my strategy is appropriate for most people.

(edit: s/bit/big/ in an important place.)

1)  Your thread title is dubious as it does not specify a time-frame and this makes it all the more convenient for you to pick data corresponding to specific time-frames to make it appear as though you know what you're talking about.

i know it doesn't specify a time so why does Silverbox hold me to the start date of this thread for his Update comparison?  its a general direction call i started back on 8/9/11 in the "Gold: I smell a trap" thread.

How about doing a comparison of prices starting from six months ago instead?

Or are you intentionally trolling with your cherry-picked datapoints?
Purposely cherry-picking.  It's something of a trend on this thread.
care to give an example of this so called "cherry picking"?  or just another careless comment?
...

Been there, done that.  What are you, some sort of a masochist?

you haven't done anything much less prove anything.

your problem is that you carelessly throw out criticisms and then are not willing to go back in the record and prove them.  you hide behind your laziness as if that's some sort of excuse.

...

It might be worth noting that I made no specific accusations, much less any directed at you specifically.  That was not entirely an accident.  Yet you seem to take it as a personal affront anyway.  Hmmm...  Bit of a guilty conscience peeking out there?

Hey, Silverbox.  Where's your daily report.  It would be interesting to note whether Cypherdoc was 'King for a day'... generously characterizing yesterday's brief performance metrics as 'right'...

9959  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Emergency ANN] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: May 17, 2012, 09:13:32 PM
...if/when I ever decide to launch a Bitcoin site that actually handles people's Bitcoins.  ...

If you are handling Bitcoins, they are your bitcoins.  That is one of the things which distinguishes Bitcoin from most other instruments (imho.)  If more people shared my philosophical view of the situation, fewer people would be whining about their Bitcoins having gone missing.

Naturally to run a good business you'll want to be able to give the Bitcoins back to your customers upon demand, and having a good security consultant would go along way toward achieving this goal.

Alternately, with Bitcoin there are creative ways to invalidate my assertions about ownership.  Having both and outstanding security consultant and a skilled scientist/engineer could blaze some trails here.  It seems to be starting though I cannot say that I have followed things closely.

9960  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: May 17, 2012, 08:18:17 PM
I didn't mean to run conduit to get to I-net, but for internal com/power for buildings on the same property Wink, If your gonna have a bunker, might as well have a few outbuildings and what not Wink.  Its so handy to have a conduit between buildings with a pull rope left in it.. Whenever you need so and so at location X, you just pull it Wink.  If you leave a big enuf conduit, you can even go really old school and run stuff with discrete signals, lol.

What I actually need is a retaining wall (town property.)  But an underground garage would be handy and would solve some of the engineering issues which vex tall retaining walls.

But I have a rather long stretch which needs a retaining wall.  So it would be cool to have a sister structure to use as a workspace and I could re-use most of the falsework.

Now if I have an underground workspace, what would be cool would be to have it EMP and TEMPEST resistant.  Hmmm...starting to look a bit more like a bunker complex.

Actually what I need is an excuse to get an excavator I fear.  If I get around to doing this work you can bet your bottom dollar (or BTC or silver coin) that it will be riddled with conduit Smiley
