9961  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2020-05-06] Bitcoin Halving: Bitcoin Could Be About To Make Another Major Move on: May 12, 2020, 09:48:57 AM
@cr1776. On a real genuine depression, many people will not have sufficient assets to protect by holding bitcoin. Poor people would better use what they have for food, water and shelter.

We witness it in the world today. Would you see a poor Asian farmer protect his assests in bitcoin?

The poor Asian farmer is not in a position to invest in Bitcoin at all, if we take into account that it is very likely that he does not have access to the Internet, nor the necessary knowledge, and that he spends most of his time working in the field. People who are so poor that they cannot provide even the most basic things for life do not invest in stocks, gold or cryptocurrencies, for the reason that they have nothing to invest.

On the other hand those who already own Bitcoin they will definitely be tempted to sell all or at least part of it at some point to meet some of their personal needs. But this is happening all the time, from the very beginning until today, and the law of the free market will ensure that everyone can buy and sell BTC whenever they want.
9962  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano S - Get 50% off! on: May 12, 2020, 09:10:45 AM
Wow, this seems to be the opportunity I have been waiting for.  Wink
does anyone know, is it possible to buy Ledger and to send it as a gift, where the value does not have to be specified or indicated some symbolic amount?
it matters to me because of the complicated duty in my country.

When I bought the Nano X last year, no price was indicated on the package, only that contents of package is USB key. Maybe it's because the shipment goes within the EU, so there is no need for customs. For more information, it is best to contact Ledger directly, although you should be aware that this offer is only valid for one week, and the answer may not arrive within that period.

Hello @Lucius thanks for the information, I just know this because of this post of you. Anyway its gonna be available until May 17th so I can do some order before it ends. So glad that 50% off promo is on.

LOL! Thank you very much @Lucius. This is the time I am waiting for.
Thanks for the heads up! Been planning this for a very long time.

You're welcome guys. I hope that the purchase will be successful and that the delivery will be within a reasonable time so that you can use your devices as soon as possible.
9963  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Ledger Nano S - Get 50% off! on: May 11, 2020, 03:14:04 PM

For all those who were waiting for the right opportunity to buy the Ledger Nano S, I think this discount is a real hit not only because of the 50% off, but also because of the current BTC price (if you use it as a payment option). Is there a better way to celebrate halving than to get a hardware wallet Wink

9964  Economy / Speculation / Re: Silk road-founder-ross-ulbricht-predicts-bitcoins-price-falling-to-3200 on: May 11, 2020, 02:24:25 PM
Ulbricht, who is serving two life sentences in prison without the possibility of parole for his role in founding the dark web marketplace Silk Road, published a Medium post on April 11 giving his prediction for bitcoin’s price in 2020.

Given the punishment, I don't blame him for wanting to take part in life outside the penitentiary, at least in this way. Although I do not share his opinion, since we cannot know what else will happen by the end of this year, we should leave the possibility and the option of another sharp fall as was the case on 11/12 March 2020. Although such a decline would very likely be short-lived, some are obviously obsessed with BTC sinking as low as possible, because they hate it or want to invest at a low price.

Is Ross Ulbricht using Medium from Prison?

He doesn't have internet access. He probably told the information in the article to a friend, during a prison visit, who subsequently wrote it on Medium and controls the Ross Ulbricht account there. Same with "his" twitter account.

Federal Bureau of Prisons in their institutions is have something called TRULINCS (The Trust Fund Limited Inmate Computer System) which which is actually limited computer access for sending electronic messages.

The Trust Fund Limited Inmate Computer System (TRULINCS) is a new program currently being deployed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) to provide inmates with some limited computer access, to include the capability to send and receive electronic messages without having access to the Internet. This program is designed in part to assist in the inmate’s eventual release to the community. Electronic messaging has now become a standard form of communication within most American homes and businesses, and it can now be used to help inmates stay connected to their families.

This system is implemented in the prison where he is being held Federal Correctional Complex - Tucson. In case someone wants to send him a postcard or something like that, you have an address Wink
9965  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hours before the halving, bitcoinblockhalf.com gets the hug of death. on: May 11, 2020, 01:19:26 PM
So we have the first victim of halving - a page that counts down the blocks and the time until halving actually became unavailable just a few hours before halving Shocked

Other links are more or less OK, but I would warn those allergic to BCH/BSV to avoid blockchair, and if someone is want to join live YT stream and chat about halving video is available on CMC site.

I remember halving 2016, like it was yesterday - how time flies⏳ when a man is having fun Smiley
9966  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Huawei without Google on: May 11, 2020, 12:54:49 PM
Google losing its app on Huawei phone is a big loss for the company, I am against most of the policy of China but letting go of a very big market is a regrettable decision for Google. I commend that Google did make a stand but in a business perspective they are losing. I find the tactic of Chinese government very strategic because they are using their population as a bargaining chip for businesses and country's affairs, though I feel sad that their citizen will never taste real freedom.

The fact is that Google apps don’t come pre-installed on Huawei phones, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t ways for everyone to install the same apps on their smartphone. In other words, every Huawei smartphone/tablet can have all the Google app installed, but of course unofficially and at the personal responsibility of each individual user.

What Huawei is working on now is the proposal that Google Apps become available through their App Gallery, which would definitely allow them to become powerful players in the market again. For now, American politics has no ear for any concessions, especially after very serious accusations against China regarding everything that is happening regarding the pandemic.
9967  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 2 New Fake Ledger Website on: May 11, 2020, 11:00:22 AM
Second site is identical to what I report few days ago -> Ledger Fake Site/s - Seed stealers!.

It is possible that it is the same person or someone is selling this way of earning money on the black market. I reported that site 4 days ago, but I can still access it via Firefox. Google phishing report is obviously like everything else in slow mode, and that goes to the hand of those who do things like this.

9968  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Help upgrading Nano Ledger S on: May 11, 2020, 10:43:15 AM
I was sleeping poorly due to possibility of loosing a lot of savings

The only way to lose your funds is to reset your wallet during the firmware update, without having any backup. Given that you've got them and assuming you correctly and in the proper arrangement wrote all 24 words there is no reason to worry.

Ledger has an app through which you can check the correctness of your seed which is definitely a recommendation for everyone to be 100% sure they have the correct backup. It is always important to emphasize that the words from the seed are not entered anywhere except in the device itself.

9969  Economy / Services / Re: Anonymous crypto-loadable debit card - No KYC - Private Card Services on: May 11, 2020, 10:26:52 AM
1. There are not so many countries where crypto is regulated currently. In this country it is not prohibited and is not considered something unlawful.
2. Exactly.
3. That's right, also the sim-card, which is connected to the account/card (to receive authorization codes) and a smartphone (optional, by request) with installed bank app.
4. We mainly work with NON-residents, so the individual is not a subject to tax in the country of the bank where the account/card is applied for. Besides that bank does control physical location and where the person is traveling.

Thanks for the additional clarifications. I understand how the whole thing works, but personally I wouldn’t feel comfortable doing financial transactions through a bank account opened in someone else’s name. Taking someone's identity to avoid paying taxes is definitely a crime, regardless of the consent of the persons who agree to open accounts and sell them to other persons.

In addition, the bank can close such an account at any time if it suspects any illegal activities, and the actual cardholder can be very easily identified through cameras located in ATMs or at places where it pays via POS devices.
9970  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Goverment can literally destroy bitcoin whenever they want on: May 11, 2020, 10:05:55 AM
Such a scenario, of course, is not destruction - but the relocation of Bitcoin to the underground, where it would be quite inaccessible to most ordinary Internet users.
I don't think so, why they would tend to lessen the user of the bitcoin by just making it inaccessible to the most ordinary internet users if they can do it as a whole?

As I have already written in previous posts, the reason is in the money - and if we generally agreed that 51% of the attack costs a lot, then only by applying laws that are almost free they are practically throwing Bitcoin into the sphere of illegal activities. Despite the fact that today Bitcoin is mostly legal, in some countries like Japan or Germany fully regulated, this does not mean that it is widely used. Any negative measure would be multiple counterproductive for the further advancement of Bitcoin as a currency, and all these theories about a 51% attack at this point make no sense.

Bitcoin is not a threat to anyone at the moment, and given the current state of the world, there are much bigger threats that will be the focus of attention in the coming years.
9971  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 3.3.8 Not Connected on: May 11, 2020, 09:30:57 AM
It's very weird that using an electrum inside a virtualmachine, using the same ip works great, but using it in my main OS gives me so many problems.

I can't say from my own experience, but if you use a virtual machine you also seem to get a virtual IP address which explains why Electrum is blocked when you use your main OS.

Do virtual machines have different IP addresses? Yes, They have different virtual IP addresses as each of the VM's have a virtual NIC which does hardware virtualization and uses the underlying Physical NIC to send packets.
They can use the network in the following ways :
1) Use the internal network which is set up by the VM Manager to communicate between the VM's and the Host OS.
In this way, VM's can't send packets outside the Host to the network.
2) Directly interface VM's packets to the external network along with the Host OS's packets.
If there are 2 VM's and a Host OS, then the network will see that there are 3 hosts connected, but actually they are using the same NIC to send packets with different Virtual NIC's and Virtual IP's.

Can I find what's blocking the connection to electrum in the first place?

As I stated in my previous post, the problem was detected when you managed to make a connection via Tor, which as the main culprits in this case clearly points to your internet service provider. As far as I remember, there were already similar cases and mostly it was about users from Russia, so if by any chance you are from there you know what it's about. Luckily you have a few solutions that solve your problem, using Tor, changing DNS or VPN.

The option is to send an official inquiry to your ISP regarding the blocking of certain content, maybe they can explain to you why there was a change compared to a few months ago.
9972  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 3.3.8 Not Connected on: May 10, 2020, 04:13:40 PM
Windows 10 is known for a lot of weird problems, maybe some of the updates you've received in recent months are the cause. But it's really hard to determine, so you should check everything on the firewall/router/ISP route based on this GitHub similar problem.

Please try with a Tor proxy on Windows.
Download and run the Tor Browser.
While Tor Browser is running, click orb in Electrum, go to Proxy tab, and check Use Tor proxy at port ... try this server: fortress.qtornado.com:443

if it works, also try fortress.qtornado.com:50002
(same server reachable on both ports)

If only 443 works, then high outgoing ports are blocked by your firewall/router/ISP.

Or you can try installing the mobile version of Electrum and check if something is wrong with your router or ISP. But be sure that you download only from Electrum site, and that your phone is not infected with malware.
9973  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best mining setup from home POST halving#3 on: May 10, 2020, 02:10:53 PM
You didn't write what you want to mine? I guess you mean Bitcoin, but if you don't have a fairly large initial investment and extremely cheap electricity, forget about that venture. There may be a possible profit in mining some altcoin, but it is always a time game where you can always lose in the eternal scheme of pumps/dumps. Maybe it's best to ask in Mining board.
9974  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 3.3.8 Not Connected on: May 10, 2020, 01:43:02 PM
vifyunidre, so it is working on same PC with virtualmachine on same internet connection, but it is not working on Windows 10? Since everything worked on the same configuration a few months ago, something apparently happened in the meantime, assuming your firewall is turned off and you don't have any active antivirus protection. If you have your own seed (12 words), have you perhaps tried a clean installation that involves deleting the Electrum folder with all files?

Are you sure you are selecting the server correctly manually -> https://bitcoinelectrum.com/how-to-switch-to-a-different-electrum-server/
9975  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Coinbase down again during crash, is the exchange doing this on purpose? on: May 10, 2020, 01:14:29 PM
I think that a crypto exchange like Coinbase can afford to have things like this happen to them because they are dominant in the market and regardless of events like this, their clients don't have too many choices other than complaining on social media. It is more than obvious that something is wrong here, and whether it is just a matter of technical problems caused by a large server load or something else.

There are a lot of dissatisfied users on their Twitter...

9976  Economy / Speculation / Re: Major dump started like 5 minutes ago on: May 10, 2020, 12:30:23 PM
Just as the pump happened a few days ago, so did the dump - nothing new for BTC, a change in price like this is quite common. The dump usually happens over the weekend which was the case here, apparently in an attempt to catch most people unprepared. This looked like a very well-prepared bull trap that used halving as bait, and there is no doubt that a lot of small fish were caught on that bait.

Yet at this point, $8500 seems to have been the bottom line, and we are slowly recovering. Maybe some are disappointed, but let's remember that 2 months ago when the situation looked much worse than today and I don't think anyone should be ungrateful that we actually returned to the level where we were before the big dump.

the problem with manipulation is that it can't be done forever. at some point people catch up and learn about how it works and go against it and make even more money while the manipulators lose money.

Not forever, but maybe for a very long time. Aside from the fact that some people learn from their mistakes, there are always some new ones coming who have no experience and become weak hands whenever they get caught in a trap. I may not even blink an eye at something like this, but someone who has invested recently will definitely be in a panic when he sees that he has lost 10% overnight.
9977  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Craig wright found to have plagiarized his PhD-not really a doctor of anything on: May 10, 2020, 10:32:28 AM
Some of his equations don't make sense since he either forgot to plagiarize the parts which defined terms and variables he later used, or because he didn't understand what he was plagiarizing and made errors when copying it.

Maybe someone from Australia can comment on their education system, but at first glance it doesn't seem too serious if they make such mistakes. Although there are such cases all over the world, I can specifically say for my country where some politicians have been caught plagiarizing their doctoral/master's theses. However, no one lost their doctorate because of that, and it is likely that Faketoshi will get away with it and the whole thing will be swept under the rug.

What is more important for the crypto community is the fact that we know that he is a plagiarist, who obviously copy someone's work, but as you say in a way that he did not really understand the content of what he is copying. This is just another proof that he is a pathological liar who has become so deeply entangled in his lies that he no longer has a chance to get rid of them.
9978  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Goverment can literally destroy bitcoin whenever they want on: May 10, 2020, 10:12:04 AM
It's still partial destruction as everyone'd get out of BTC the moment they say declare it illegal so price would crash.

Well, the vast majority of people still unquestioningly obey the laws, whatever they may be, so if Bitcoin were to be declared illegal, there is no doubt that it would be disastrous for the entire crypto system. That's why I say that it doesn't make much sense to discuss the possibility of someone going with a 51% attack, when there are much cheaper measures to make a much bigger effect for much less money.

In the months of the Libra debate, I remember a statement from a US congressman (Brad Sherman) who said Bitcoin was actually still a small baby, and that means it poses almost no threat to the U.S. dollar or any other currency in the world. Compared to the stock, real estate, gold or fiat money markets Bitcoin is really just a small baby that is subject to any manipulation and control.
9979  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Goverment can literally destroy bitcoin whenever they want on: May 09, 2020, 02:00:55 PM
Why complicate with a 51% attack or something similar? If there were a consensus at the level of the world's most powerful governments, the vector of attack could simply be directed over what governments have as their strongest weapons - laws. If Bitcoin were to be declared illegal, all existing infrastructure would be shut down, and without crypto exchanges and bans BTC as a means of payment, things would seem rather pointless.

Such a scenario, of course, is not destruction - but the relocation of Bitcoin to the underground, where it would be quite inaccessible to most ordinary Internet users.
9980  Economy / Services / Re: Anonymous crypto-loadable debit card - No KYC - Private Card Services on: May 09, 2020, 01:47:09 PM
Each service has its price, so I can understand that almost 1000 EUR for something like this may be appropriate price. But I would like to clarify some things, because I leave the possibility that I misunderstood something.

1. The card is issued by a bank in the country where the crypto is legal?
2. The card is issued in the name of a real person in that country, who personally opens an account and picks up the card at the bank?
3. I buy that card for 950 EUR (per year) and get it at my home address?
4. What about taxes given the amount of money that can be transferred via card? Won't the actual cardholder have to explain why he spends a possibly significant amount of money in a country he doesn't actually live in or has never even visited?

I can assume with great certainty that something like this cannot be made possible in the EU or the USA, no bank can operate in this way without being within the legal framework.
