1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] RightMesh (RMESH) A Decentralized Mobile Mesh Network on: July 28, 2018, 04:34:57 AM
The RightMesh coin project should strengthen market value management. After ICO, the price dropped too much, which made investors lose confidence.

Yes... please read the post right above yours, and the related link as you will see that the team could not do anything while completing the process.

So, what's the purpose of having your token?
We want to incentivize the 'Right' behavior. This includes compensating a person for sharing their device resources (data connection, battery, processing power, sensor information). With the volume of data being moved through the system and the micro-transactions, our own token was required.

... what if you would have an App that warns people about natural disasters, terror attacks or even power or internet outages...

I have been quite interested in using a mesh network in conjunction with on-device accelerometers to give an early warning earthquake alert. The algorithms do exist (http://news.berkeley.edu/2016/02/12/new-app-turns-smartphones-into-worldwide-seismic-network/). As on-device sensor fusion becomes more pervasive thanks in part to things like Google's TensorFlow Lite, we should be able to make this a reality.

Also related, check out this video here. At the 35 second mark, you can see a quick glimpse of a hackathon project that one of our devs made last year. In this, sensor data from an Arduino processor was used to trigger an alert out across the mesh. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELfJh8Yrqwg ... This one was for heat (fire alarm), but the concept remains similar to your idea.

Hi Departure,

We have been working with a few groups from Russia and have a few native speakers in our offices in Canada. If you haven't already seen it, here is a copy  our whitepaper and website translated already: https://www.rightmesh.io/whitepaper/?lang=ru

We've been working on one for a few years ago over at RightMesh.io (www.RightMesh.io)

There are a few other hardware plays, including the teams over at GoTenna, Ammbr, and Althea Mesh.

Let me know if you have any questions about our software-based approach to mesh networking.

There are a few hardware plays like Ammbr, Gotenna, and a couple of others. We don't really view these as competitors, and in fact, they may be complimentary. Our big difference is that we are software-based and rely on the hardware that people already have. Jason, our Chief Networking Scientist, has said before: "Building a mesh when you control the hardware is easy. Not easy in that anyone could do it, but not as hard as trying to be software that can operate on any existing smartphone without rooting the device."

We chose to pursue software as a solution because as Marc Andreesen has said, "Software is eating the world." It spreads quickly at zero cost. In an emerging market, even a nominal hardware cost is a barrier that will inhibit growth.

Build your own application with on RightMesh our free RightMesh SDK https://developer.rightmesh.io/register_form.php

Is it possible to invest yet or is it just an echochamber for the rightmesh team?

This project seems slow:/
There is already competitors with same idea and they started with ico already and released tokens and everything....

Hello? Hello? Hello?  Right now this is unfortunately a bit of an echo chamber. Hopefully, this will change when we announce dates soon and that will change things. Unlike a lot of projects that are rushing through an uncertain landscape of regulatory landmines, we are trying to do things right. Pun fully intended. Most projects, in our opinion, put themselves at risk with the speed at which they are progressing through the process. We are working closely with MME (legal in Switzerland), Fasken Martineau (Legal in Canada), KPMG (Financial Advisory Canada), Bitcoin Suisse (Advisory Switzerland), and plenty of others to ensure that we are prepared for the TGE and for life post TGE.

We started the company back in 2010, our mesh platform 3 years ago, and tokenization this past Spring. Our plan is building a company of real and lasting value with a real economy for many years to come. Bear with us just a little bit longer.

PS... While there are other mesh technologies, I do not believe that there are others doing what we are doing.

Another update that the team surprised me with:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSRjoU_9A9g

One of the challenges that we face is how to show a platform and protocol when the output is invisible beams of light being sent between devices when there is no internet and no connectivity (and is why we are investing time and money building apps that we will release as Open Source projects). I thought this video showed this off pretty well.

A few quick updates:

Before I started what appears to be a 2-month road trip away from the office and my family (Zurich, London, Munich, Dubai, Barcelona, Mumbai, Santa Monica, San Francisco, and NYC... are all stops on our world tour), I found 15 minutes on a quiet Sunday to create a virtual tour of our office. While we would love for everyone to visit, we know that is not possible. Here is where we work, or at least, this is the Canadian headquarters where I work when not on an airplane or in a hotel room: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qACg2a1VaVQ

Second, Chris Jensen, one of the other co-founders is talking about RightMesh at the ICO Summit here in Zurich later today (4:30PM CET, 10:30am EST). However, the entire day is being live streamed for free. Watch Chris and other panelists here discuss the current token generation and ICO markets here: https://icosummit.ch/zurich-2017/

13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin from Key West to Cuba - 90miles - Can It Be Done? on: September 15, 2017, 02:09:39 AM
There are projects to build a new, decentralized internet. I heard from another project, that uses regular wifi routers to build a decentralized  p2p network (mesh network). There is still the possiblility to use your analogue telephone to connect with a dial-up connection.

We have been pretty active down in Cuba with our first generation, mesh technology (including having our app being distributed via the weekly package), but the key is not mesh networking hardware... it has to be an entirely software based approach and capable of running on any smart phone (without rooting the phone), or at least that is our opinion as this is the only thing that will truly allow the network to grow fast enough to be valuable/useful.

We have been working on something like that over at www.Rightmesh.io  -- Let me know if you have questions.

Make sure everyone who works with you or for you, feels the need to tell others about the incredible experience.

Agree completely. When we started down this journey several years ago, Chris (the other co-founder) and myself were walking down the esplanade of the Charles River in Boston. We had just come from a very successful meeting for the legacy side of the business that is/was travel tech related. We had a choice to make: to proceed down this path into the unknown of mesh connectivity, or to go down the safe and secure path for what was already working. I would like to say that it was an even ledger with an equal number of plus and minus votes on each side, but it wasn't. The only reason for us to say 'yes' to mesh connectivity, was this, "If we do this right, we can change the world."

So we jumped.

At the very start, and still maintain the same philosophy today, the only way that we will be able to pull this off is to start a movement if you will. Get people to see and understand that we can build a better Internet and a better world. I wrote a blog post about this several years ago (https://www.rightmesh.io/starting-a-movement-making-a-connected-world-a-friendlier-place/) that I forgot about until you wrote... but this is what it is about... starting a movement.

All of this being said, what we realized after talking to different users, however -- from Cuba and Colombia, to India and Bangladesh -- is everyone wanted to believe in the movement, but they nearly unanimously asked, "What's in it for me?" This was when we started to explore tokenization and incentivization.

Now, we will be able to change the world, and let people's self-interest work in tandem with, rather than via opposed to this starting vision. I just finished up a powerpoint for a talk that I am giving later this week at a conference called, "Can you reduce global poverty and lift up entire economies without doing a damn thing?"  Not to be a spoiler here, but I think the answer is a resounding 'YES'.

Thanks for reading it through @fathamburger.

A large part of the routing algorithms have come via our sciences team. We have some incredibly smart people who have been at this for a long time. To get a sense as to how they approach things, here are the Google scholar links for Dr. Jason Ernst - our Chief Networking Scientist, and Dr. Zehau (David) Wang, our Applied Research Scientist:

Jason: https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=SbUmSEAAAAAJ

David - https://scholar.google.ca/citations?user=pquTtPYAAAAJ

We have an internal joke in the office that we called "David's Law", whereby every time he did a Git check-in the performance of the network doubled. I don't think that will continue for very long, but we have a lot of ideas for network performance enhancements that will take several years (and many more smart people too).

You will develop a software that without rooting a mobile you will be able to use its radio capabilities in order to create a Mesh Network for the app users

That is correct. When we started down this journey, we realized we could take the 'easy' approach of hardware. But with 6 billion smart phones expected in the world by 2020 each of which can broadcast and receive signal, the hardware already exists (or soon will be). The challenge of course was to do this without flashing the device, as this would completely limit growth.

One of the primary inventions is what we call 'MeshPorts' that allows the multiple apps to use the same common core on a single device. So you could have 5-10+ apps all running the same core, and thus... the data could hop between different devices even if the routing/infrastructure devices in the middle had installed apps that were not used by nodes at the start and end of the journey.

What is the level of power that RightMesh can take on? Meaning how much connectivity can it provide based on users? I would imagine it is quite extensive but I am interested to know how self-powering the system can be.

I assume you mean what sort of density can be addressed? This is a large part of our next phase of testing. Theoretically, we can blanket a large town (and we are getting set up to do so in the small town of Rigolet up in northern Canada already), but I'm talking about a large town. Here is a video showing 100 concurrent connections to a single node. Each of those edge nodes could have similar performance and so on, and so on, and so on... where each node switches between networks or talks to multiple networks at once.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJxttyiQZRY

Where we differentiate from previous mesh attempts is that we do not naively broadcast to neighboring nodes. This would be an unscaleable method. We have routing algorithms that identify the most efficient or 'best' routes between nodes that can send data at _ Mbps over a multitude of hops. And over time, this can get faster and faster.

Once again back to the theoretical, we have been modeling what it would take to blanket certain large urban centers, and we believe this is possible.
