1  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What makes a true Libertarian? on: February 13, 2018, 05:55:49 AM
So I was wondering what other libertarians think about this? Does it worry you that one of the most popular proponents of Libertarianism is a creationist? Or is it OK? What makes a true Libertarian?

One thing that's certain about American politics is that candidates don't stay 100% true to the party platform. So while Ron Paul may be a creationist, Gary Johnson or someone else might be an evolution guy.

Being Libertarian is about being logical, having common sense, not getting swept up in the tradition of things. Libertarians wouldn't make decisions based on creationism or evolution, pro life or pro choice, they'd make the decision that helps lower crime, improve the economy, lower taxes, get people better income, or let people live their lives the way they want to.

Libertarians believe in real freedom of living.

Democrats are hypocrites. Republicans are hypocrites. A wise person once said - "Partisanship makes you stupid." It's so true. If you're beholden to a platform, you're not thinking independently about each issue.

The Libertarian party is the only "formal group" that gets us close to this ideal, but in all honesty being Independent / Unaffiliated is the only true way to engage properly in American politics.
2  Economy / Speculation / Re: do you think bitcoin will go back to 6000? should i sell now? on: February 03, 2018, 06:03:11 AM
do you think it is going to 6000?

It's always tough to predict these things. Two ways to think about it are in terms of fundamentals and in terms of technicals.

The Fundamentals are the business value of the investment (Bitcoin, in this case). How strong is Bitcoin's utility for the future? Does it still have a place in this cryptocurrency market? It this investment world?

The Technicals are the movement of the price and how it can dictate future supply and demand behavior. In this topic we look at the price charts over several months and identify where there are stalls and spurts in the price direction. The stalls where price is stagnant for a period of time form bases of support or resistance. The spurts, where prices rise or fall over short periods of time represent breakouts or breakdowns (through the base of resistance or support, respectively). The last support level was $10,000. We broke through it and now we've fallen to the mid $8,000s. The next support level is $8,200. If we break through that mark, we could fall to $5,800.

But...will it happen? Who knows. That's where the fundamentals come in. The fundamentals keep you holding on to a good investment, even in the bad times.

When in doubt, double down!

Why don't we just ban China?

I don't understand. You can't shag some beautiful Chinese ladies from a more intelligent set? Troll the universities!
4  Other / Politics & Society / Re: USA Presidential election probe. on: August 22, 2017, 05:25:17 AM
Was the Donald Trump campaign involved in the DNC hack and can it be said that it changed the outcome of the election.

The campaign probably did not get involved in the DNC hack. Trump's campaign and the people he keeps close to hime aren't that bright...neither is Trump. The hack didn't influence the election. There have been multiple studies that prove this fact. Clinton didn't put forth a compelling reason to vote for her that could resonate in every State in the country. You can't just speak to one group of people and then assume that all the other groups of people will fall in line. You have to appeal to nearly everybody. Clinton failed because of her questionable history and her view of the future that didn't consider ow to bring everyone to a better place in their life.
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What services you wanna see with Bitcoin ? on: August 22, 2017, 05:11:02 AM
Great question...

  • Airline tickets
  • Hotel rooms
  • Home repair items (so big retailers)
  • Pubs...yes pubs! I want to see if my pub tab would be greater at the start of the night or the end of the night
  • Groceries
  • Hip restaurants

I'll think of more.
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi: Bitcoin foreseen as major currency. on: August 22, 2017, 05:04:58 AM
Since Bitcoin has become a dominant cryptocurrency online, would you say that Satoshi had foreseen Bitcoin becoming a major currency today? Any speculations as to what or who were his/her influences in creating Bitcoin?

Of course? It started as a project but every project is started with aspirations of it having significant impact or change on its environment. There's a book called Digital Gold that talks about a lot of unregulated currency and cryptography talks for as much as two decades before Bitcoin was created. In fact there were other attempts by other people to create such a currency, but each before Bitcoin was unsuccessful.
7  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Signature Campaign for newbies? on: August 22, 2017, 04:56:23 AM
Is there any signature campaign for newbies like me? I hope there is one.  Sad

Hey man, why do you ask that question? You don't snoop around this place to find the answers you seek before asking questions? This comment is super easy for you to get an answer to on your own. You should have done that.
8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin be useful for governments and banks? on: August 19, 2017, 06:07:44 AM
I don't think the currency would be particularly useful...except as currency to fund the sting operations to bust illegal activities. But the blockchain technology is absolutely useful to governments and banks. The tangible uses are many and the impact is many more!
9  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Casascius Coin Advise on: August 19, 2017, 06:04:03 AM
ANACS is a coin grading service and they don't directly deal with bitcoin. You don't have to redeem it if you don't want to send it to ANACS, you can keep it or sell it here. If you post some pictures with the date and your username, people may want to buy it.

What?

You win the award for offering advise that doesn't answer any of this guy's questions
10  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Earn Bitcoins on: August 13, 2017, 04:51:58 AM
Despite all the suggestions you will read in this thread

Unless you live in a very poor country, the fastest, easiest, and most convenient way to obtain bitcoins is to buy them.

This is the wisdom of the day. There's no secret to earning bitcoin. Bitcoin is currency. How do you earn money? Do that...do it better than you do it now...do it more often or for more money or for more people. And then ask them to pay you in Bitcoin.

It's that simple.
11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I'm moderately knowledgeable in cryptocurrency, but now I'm in a rut. What should I learn next? on: August 13, 2017, 04:48:50 AM
Around six months ago I decided that I was tired of kicking myself for not investing in it and just hodling.

If you hold Bitcoin you're already investing in it.

So I set out to learn everything I could about cryptocurrency, the blockchain, and altcoin trading. Everything I've learned has been self taught. Now I feel like I need some mentoring, a big brother, an instructor. What should I do next?

Basics about investing would be good. Understanding economics would help you understand how the play between supply and demand affect the price. Finally, you could do some work to learn about the money supply in the traditional sense (e.g., fractional lending, deflation of currency) and how it can be manipulated. This will help you learn why Bitcoin has such high prospects for appreciation.

This will also help you walk carefully around the numerous ICOs out there...most are smoke and mirrors.
12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Coinbase won't be supporting Bitcoin Cash on: July 31, 2017, 04:36:19 AM
unless someone who works at coinbase reports about their funds we have no way of knowing. so far people who wanted to withdraw have done it and it was completed successfully and with ease. and it is not like their wallet is public knowledge so we can check their balances Grin

I beg to differ. I found a suspicious and unauthorized withdrawal from my account this weekend. When I filed a request for support they immediately locked my account - to ensure that the security of the account wasn't compromised - I'm still waiting for them to unlock my account and now we're within 24 hours of the deadline to withdrawal if I want the option to participate in BCC.

Fuck. A business like this should be able to prevent shit like this from happening.
13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin buying by central banks on: July 23, 2017, 04:46:46 AM
Taxes. And maybe more closely enforced or stiffer tax code requirements for those who own, sell, or use Bitcoin. Central banks may buy some but it's more likely that Investment Banks will buy Bitcoin, I mean they'll buy anything to make themselves some quick money!

Government agencies are more likely to buy Bitcoin than Central Banks. I just don't see what it benefits Central Banks...these aren't investment companies per se.
14  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Has Coinbase been hacked? Proof within ... on: July 13, 2017, 04:47:54 PM
Yu, if anything YOU'VE been hacked, not Coinbase. Since your email is getting spammed, it's likely your system that's hacked.
15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is going to happen on 1st August? on: July 13, 2017, 04:21:41 PM
Here you go: https://themerkle.com/what-exactly-is-happening-to-bitcoin-on-august-1st/

There's a lot of history to the events that are unfolding. It'll be best for you to read around a bit, you can start with the article above. There are also lots of articles on Medium.
16  Other / Meta / Re: Ban Legendaries from signature campaigns on: July 11, 2017, 05:46:49 AM
The signature campaign I am in, if I post the max amount of posts its enough to pay my rent, so I do think its "pennies" if I was in yobit I could pay my rent and cell phone, if I was in bitcoin AG I could pay my rent cell phone and probably food for the month but that might be stretching it and I am in NJ. I can just imagine how people in foreign countries make off signature camps.

You're either bullshitting us...have several accounts in signature campaigns...or still live with your parents.

No advertised rate for the 777 campaign pays anything close to what rent costs in New Jersey, USA. At least you admit that its "pennies"...even though it contradicts everything else you say.
17  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How/Where to Report Stolen Cryptocurrency? on: July 04, 2017, 09:18:50 PM
Do you have any details that could point to an identify of the thief - real or virtual identity? If so, you could start a thread in the Reputation or Scam Accusation boards of this forum. Getting someone ostracized from the community does have its benefits.

Aside from that, you should share your story so others can protect themselves. Were you careless with your account? Are you putting the blame solely on Poloniex on for this one?
18  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin and bad scenarios on: July 04, 2017, 09:10:43 PM
A run on a currency to bitcoin sounds like a great scenario. In a free market every entity needs to prove they are worthy of  investment and attention from the market.

And in the end, is it bitcoin that's bad or is it people that are bad?
19  Economy / Securities / Re: Newby - looking for a 3 to 5 year investment on: June 26, 2017, 05:38:41 PM
I think bitcoin is your "safest" bet, ethereum forked before...

If Ethereum has forked and is past that hurdle that has unknown consequences, and Bitcoin hasn't...how does this make Bitcoin a better investment?
20  Economy / Speculation / Re: Barclay's discussing how to implement bitcoin on: June 26, 2017, 05:31:34 PM
It's hard to know exactly what "in play" means for Barclays, but the obvious use is so they can sell Bitcoin as investments to their customers. They can create a mutual fund or trust or ETF or all sorts of other investment vehicles based off Bitcoin.

This is interesting news. The SEC only has jurisdiction in the US. So if the UK FCA authority on investments, if they were to approve formal access to Bitcoin, would open the door to a lot of new investors, and subsequently a boom in price.

Now if they could also get Litecoin "in play" we'd really be set!
