1  Economy / Speculation / Re: Vote on price in 24 hours on: July 20, 2017, 02:39:43 PM
I think this is a temporary pump like the usual whale dump & pump and the price will drop again soon. Thinking of selling and buy again when its low?
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH raises today now 70% of bitcoin market cap. shall displace bitcoin in days on: July 19, 2017, 12:24:55 AM
Hi,

Why the price of ETH is somehow connected with Bitcoin market price? If BTC price goes up ETH price goes up as well proportionately, and BTC falls ETC also falls. What is the connection?
3  Economy / Speculation / BTC, ETH, and LTC price connection! on: July 17, 2017, 07:11:50 PM
Anyone can explain why ETH and LTC and probably other crypto coins prices go up and down whenever BTC price go up or down simultaneously? Is it because investors buying and selling in all coins at the same time?
4  Economy / Speculation / Re: To sell all?? on: July 16, 2017, 02:51:02 PM
I too feel the same really. I bought @2500 and so far is a big loss, and at the rate its falling it will probably be worth nothing before 1st of Aug!

So now the question is to sell all now at a loss then wait a bit when the price is really cheap and buy again and end up with more coins? Wouldn't that be the sensible thing to do in this situation? I don't think the price will recover soon anyway as there is no reason for the price to go up now so the only way is down!
5  Economy / Speculation / Re: Probability of HARD FORK is 80% ! on: July 15, 2017, 02:15:06 AM
segWIT2x mining support is more than 85% https://coin.dance/blocks#proposals
BTC core nodes are nearly 80% https://coin.dance/nodes
if this goes like this we ll going to see a HARD FORK at 1 August.

I think HF is likely 80% will happen.

If you think different plz reply.

So what about this then??

6  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Blockchain.info online wallet on: July 03, 2017, 05:07:28 PM

Or, you could just import the BIP39 seed onto any supporting desktop wallet clients. For instance, copay. Though instead of "import from backup" you'd have to go to create a new wallet, and specify the recovery seed.

i have tried this before, generate a new wallet on blockchain.info, write down the walet recovery seed, and if you ever lose access to your wallet then you could either do it the hard way, go through all the derivation paths etc. or just import it into any supporting bitcoin wallet.

So yes, you can indeed access your coin without having access to the site, as long as you have the correct recovery seed.

So is it possible that I can import my online blockchain.info wallet into Electrum desktop wallet, use it to send and receive and it will automatically sync with the online blockchain.info wallet? or do I have to create another wallet online and then import it in Electrum, and would sync the transactions and the balance then?

If this is possible it will save me moving the coins back and forth every time I want to sell on blockchain.info
7  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Blockchain.info online wallet on: July 01, 2017, 02:15:09 PM
As long you have a backup of wallet or seed, you can recover your bitcoins even if their site goes down.

Now that is interesting!

So lets assume blockchain.nfo site is down. What would you do to recover the wallet?

I have only the recovery 12 word phrase and the password. I haven't seen any private keys!

https://iancoleman.github.io/bip39/. Download a local copy and then use it. You can see it generate same address you have in your wallet. You can also use Electrum, Mycelium or Bither to recover your Bitcoin from seed.

Blockchain.info is now an HD wallet. If you don't know what that means, read http://support.mycelium.com/hc/en-us/articles/207045475-What-does-HD-in-HD-Wallet-mean and/or http://www.fintechblue.com/2016/03/what-is-an-hd-wallet/.

The password you are referring to is the one you use to sign in, right? If so, when you recover later, if password is asked, don't enter any because you don't need password to recover from a seed.

Note: Create a new wallet in Blockchain.info for testing. Don't expose seed or send it to anyone. Getting your seed means having access to your Bitcoin, just like private key.

Edit: if you just want to check whether the addresses created in another wallet is same as in Blockchain.info, then you can use xPub key. To do it, follow:
  • Go to blockchain.info/wallet and login.
  • Click menu.
  • Click 'Settings'.
  • Click 'Addresses'.
  • Click 'Manage' of the wallet you use or want to export your xPub key.
  • Click 'More Options' and select 'Show Xpub' from drop-down list.
  • Click 'Confirm'. The long time starting with "xpub" is extended public key(xPub) of that account.
  • Copy/save your xPub.
  • Now, go to iancoleman.github.io/bip39/ or open local file if you have downloaded it(recommended).
  • Paste xPub in 'BIP32 Root Key'.
  • Select 'BIP32' in 'Derivation Path'.
  • Addresses will now be created and you can see your addresses in generated ones.

Note: Your xPub must never be shared with people other than you trust because once someone has your xPub, they can track all your transactions corresponding to that key.

Excellent, thank you very much for this gold information and instructions. I knew there was a way but its quite advanced and it will take me a while to study them though!
So from what I understand I can convert my blockchain.nfo 12 word passphrase in to a seed or private keys by using the bip39...right?

I had moved them to the blockchain wallet before so I can sell immediately if the price crash. I only have the recovery phrase but I understand now that the site has to be running in order to do a recovery if necessary! So I moved them now back to my Elecrum wallet. I guess better safe than sorry!

Thank you all for your advice Smiley

Hi,
Is blochchain.nfo online wallet safe?
Can I still access my BTC if the site go down for any reason?

The site is down how can you even login in the first place.

The term safe is a big deal for online exchanges. All exchanges are prone to shutdown even the regulated one. Just use their features that suits your needs but never intend to used it as a long term wallet or for storage purposes.
I read this on their FAQ page:

"We are a noncustodial wallet and do not have access to your bitcoins. This means we cannot view your total balance, make payments on your behalf, or prevent you from accessing your wallet. With a Blockchain wallet, you retain complete ownership of your bitcoin."

So I thought that means I can access the coins from outside somehow?

Is blockchain.nfo regulated?
If not which sites are regulated?

12  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin price after 1 August - Down 50% on: June 29, 2017, 08:40:13 PM
I believe a persistent chain split would be a disaster for Bitcoin and will almost certainly lead to one of the altcoins taking over Bitcoin's role. Probably Litecoin as it is the closest cousin to Bitcoin in spirit, which is why I have diversified part of my coins into LTC a while ago. I don't see Ethereum taking over, it's just too centralized and can't scale nearly as well as LTC can. Also Ether supply has no limit, which is a no-no.

Well that's a gold info here for me. You are right if Ethereum has no limit then why should it go up or have any high value! Its like a country that keep printing money so it drops in value continuously. All I hear about is its ability for smart contracts but I haven't seen any implementation of that tek.

So why didn't LTC take off then?
13  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin price after 1 August - Down 50% on: June 29, 2017, 06:35:23 PM
I believe there will be two chains, one with new protocol and major network power and the other with the old protocol and very limited network hashing power.
So I believe the old chain will be neglected and the price will fall just because of transaction issues and the new chain will get more attention because of faster transaction times and the price of it will increase.

The beauty here is that when network split, you will have coins on each network.  Even if the price goes down 50% on one chain and the price on another chain remain, I think you can see the scenario here,  you profit 50% from the chain split.  But the price would be unknown since the event is yet to happen.   If the chain is bound to split then it would be the best time to buy Bitcoin since you can have bitcoin on either chain, thus profit is expected.

So if that happens then people who already have Bitcoins will be on the old chain will remain on the old chain so they will lose 50% of the value? or all current BTC will be transferred to the new chain?
14  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin price after 1 August - Down 50% on: June 29, 2017, 06:14:17 PM
I don't understand why people think BTC price will reach $5000 after Segwitt or hit the moon one day! I think you all agree that the price is totally dependent on demand. So why should Segwitt or any improvement in the blockchain increase demand hence raise the price? If such a demand exist we would have seen it already. I just trying to be realistic here and trying to decide whether to sell or hold before it all goes mad because I can't find any reason yet for the price to go up! Help me here speculators.

Such demand did exist but it all went into alt-coins because BTC could not take on the capacity of new users because blocks were full. Segwit will release this bottleneck and all the users that bought alt-coins will flow back into BTC.

Total crypto market cap went from 20B to over 100B with BTC losing 40% market share. Expect a large % of this market share to come back.
Thank you for that. I didn't know that people left Bitcoin and went to Alt coins because of Bitcoin network problems. I thought they bought Alt coins because they are cheap and possibly earn a lot more money on their investment in a short time. I guess you are right with BTC and that may very well happen. Do you think Ethereum have a good future or will it ever be like Bitcoin?

16  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will there be an epic dump? on: May 29, 2017, 04:13:32 PM
If the price is continuously growing only a really big dump can occur which can lead to bitcoin even being dead.

Do you mean a big dump is less likely to occur if the price continuously go up?
17  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will there be an epic dump? on: May 27, 2017, 04:06:19 PM
If there's a pump there will always be a dump, that's how trading goes.  The question is when will be the heavy dump.

So are you expecting another big dump after the one happened today?

Looks like big purchases are happening again now. The whales are buying back I suppose.
18  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will there be an epic dump? on: May 27, 2017, 01:27:49 PM
Anymore expected dumps to happen soon? Should I buy or wait a little more?
19  Economy / Speculation / Re: what happened for the market? on: May 27, 2017, 10:12:40 AM
I think there is a game going on here! Everyone is so confident it will go up again like they know what will happen regardless of market demand. How can a currency drop so much without any negative news? How can so much people decide to sell at the same time all together and crash the market anytime they fancy? How can market demand drops so much overnight without any good reason? How can we have any confidence in this system anymore!
20  Economy / Speculation / Re: Crashfugees welcome on: May 26, 2017, 11:23:16 PM
A crash? Last crash was 1100->250, so maybe we now go from 2700->600?

Sounds horrible, but...last time we went from 250->2700, so if in 2 years we go from 600 -> 6000+, we can live with that I guess  Wink

I think that is based purely on supply and demand but there will be no demand then if the system can't cope with higher volumes, how long will we have to wait for a confirmation then? There is no point buying a currency that you can't use..right?

That is the biggest drawback with bitcoin as of now. Even though we pay a high fee also sometimes we need to wait hours to get transaction confirmations. But I believe developers will do something to improve otherwise slow people may move to some other potential altcoins. Also, we can't guess the prices based on last time trend because now bitcoin demand is higher compared to a few years ago.

As I understand there is no solution except forking and then fork it again and again. Segwit may work only as a temporary solution but forking is the only real solution for higher volumes. Then the price of BTC will be split.
