It's safe like any other online service, even they are trusted and honest something can go wrong.

If the site is down you can't access your coins, you can just pray and wait the site come back again to access your funds.

It can be considered safe but I recommend you to use electrum like desktop wallet that will never share your private keys with their server. All online wallets including blockchain.info can be vulnerable so just use electrum or mycellium rather than any other online wallets.

Yes that's true, they said that they don't store any information so they can't view your total balance and can't send on your behalf. But there are circumstances before from blockchain,info users that their balance was deducted even they secured their devices and no one knows their login information on that site and it's not even a bug on their system tho it's like an inside job but I don't think if it's true but there are some issue already about this so...
If I were you just don't use any web wallet and stay in a secured wallet like electrum desktop wallet and install a strong antivirus into your device so you can assure that you are safe and it's your responsibility to secure your wallet

It's not safe but not worst either. Back to the user if they can keep their credentials and backup their passphrase at least unwanted things could be avoided. But, make sure you can access your private key in the first place.

I had moved them to the blockchain wallet before so I can sell immediately if the price crash. I only have the recovery phrase but I understand now that the site has to be running in order to do a recovery if necessary! So I moved them now back to my Elecrum wallet. I guess better safe than sorry!

As long you have a backup of wallet or seed, you can recover your bitcoins even if their site goes down.

So I moved them now back to my Elecrum wallet. I guess better safe than sorry!

If you have moved bitcoins, then is alright. But if you have moved private keys from/to Blockchain.info wallet, I recommend you to create a new address in Electrum and send all your funds to it.

https://iancoleman.github.io/bip39/. Download a local copy and then use it. You can see it generate same address you have in your wallet. You can also use Electrum, Mycelium or Bither to recover your Bitcoin from seed.

Blockchain.info is now an HD wallet. If you don't know what that means, read http://support.mycelium.com/hc/en-us/articles/207045475-What-does-HD-in-HD-Wallet-mean and/or http://www.fintechblue.com/2016/03/what-is-an-hd-wallet/.

The password you are referring to is the one you use to sign in, right? If so, when you recover later, if password is asked, don't enter any because you don't need password to recover from a seed.

Note: Create a new wallet in Blockchain.info for testing. Don't expose seed or send it to anyone. Getting your seed means having access to your Bitcoin, just like private key.

Edit: if you just want to check whether the addresses created in another wallet is same as in Blockchain.info, then you can use xPub key. To do it, follow:
  • Go to blockchain.info/wallet and login.
  • Click menu.
  • Click 'Settings'.
  • Click 'Addresses'.
  • Click 'Manage' of the wallet you use or want to export your xPub key.
  • Click 'More Options' and select 'Show Xpub' from drop-down list.
  • Click 'Confirm'. The long time starting with "xpub" is extended public key(xPub) of that account.
  • Copy/save your xPub.
  • Now, go to iancoleman.github.io/bip39/ or open local file if you have downloaded it(recommended).
  • Paste xPub in 'BIP32 Root Key'.
  • Select 'BIP32' in 'Derivation Path'.
  • Addresses will now be created and you can see your addresses in generated ones.

i have tried this before, generate a new wallet on blockchain.info, write down the walet recovery seed, and if you ever lose access to your wallet then you could either do it the hard way, go through all the derivation paths etc. or just import it into any supporting bitcoin wallet.

So yes, you can indeed access your coin without having access to the site, as long as you have the correct recovery seed.

(I am aware of some encrypted one private-key format produced 3 to 4 bitcoin addresses) hierarchical deterministic works this way ?

It is safe blockchain . Actually i am using it and i am planning to open more wallets . But i think that is a cloud wallet and if they are losing their servers burning etc , practically our money are done
Also i got some problems with blockchain last time , they have diminished the mining fee and my transactions were stuck 8 days . I tried to push my transactions , i sent to support mails but no help , and i had to wait 8 days for a confirmation . So sometimes is good sometimes is bad.....

If you are talking about passphrase, then no! It is *not* BIP39 seed.

Edit: Please note that although many wallets support BIP39 seed, wallets may not be compatible with each other. Because there is paths when generating keys which is usually called key derivation path. Some wallets use key derivation path different from other wallets. However, most (popular) wallets support recovering wallets even if they use different key path.

You set a fee yourself in Blockchain.info iiirc. Using an excessively low fee may make result transaction not to be included in a block or may take a long time to get included. Alternatively, using an excessively high fee would only be you wasting your Bitcoin. You can do it If you want to "tip" miners a bigger amount. https://jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/#24h

According to my experience with blockchain.info . It is a safe online wallet if you will save your password and your 12 words provided from them for the recovery of your account while if you lose them then no one will be able to recover your wallet. In this case better is that you join any other online wallet.
For long term storage never ever use online wallet and no one know about their mood and their future.
And in the last as everyone said you will never access to your bitcoin in the time when they go down and any site often face that issue so try to keep some of your funds in any other wallet too as you may need them in any emergency

Your wallet's seed(12 words) is enough to recover your wallet.

In this case better is that you join any other online wallet.

All wallets, regardless of online, offline or hardware, you need a backup. Once lost, you won't be able to recover your Bitcoin. Besides, there aren't any other online wallets which allow us to access private keys.

Just for the record... it appears that blockchain.info is using the "BIP44" Derivation Path (m/44'/0'/0'/0) to generate addresses... I just created an account... chucked the 12 word seed into the BIP39 Mnemonic page (https://iancoleman.github.io/bip39/) and the addresses match up when you leave the Derivation Path as "BIP44".

The good news is that this means you should be able to put this seed straight into a number of other clients like Mycelium to be able to recover your wallet. Even Electrum will let you "restore" this seed if you select "Options -> BIP39 Seed" when doing the seed input.
