1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I Own Feathercoins: Yes or No. on: May 01, 2013, 04:59:40 PM
Yes, because it takes as much energy to mine as LTC with 4x more coins so the price will rise to 1/4 LTC's price.

https://cryptonit.net/exchange/ltc/ftc

Everything works fine until now! Smiley

Solo mining, I'm only getting around 8kH/sec on a radeon HD 7970, is this normal?  I thought the hashrate would be similar to LTC.
Yes, that's not normal, you should be getting almost exactly the same hashes as LTC. Restart your miner and try a different pool (preferably one with stratum support).
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: UPDATED FC Feathercoin Bounties and how you can help, earn FC, get FREE FC on: April 27, 2013, 07:04:16 PM
If Feathercoin is compatible with litecoind JSON RPC, I can add it to https://snowco.in
Please do! It's compatible!

Current Difficulty   27.497
I said so...
Next difficulty estimate calculation is broken it shows 36, but it's not true, next difficulty should be about 27.

My bad. I was accidentally using 210 seconds instead of 160 (2.5 min)
Fixed now!
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [FeatherCoin][ANN] - FeatherCoin Calculator & Blockchain Stats on: April 26, 2013, 10:15:38 PM
Looks great! Thanks for that!

Since you already have all the data: Would it be possible to add some charts?

Like Difficulty over time.
Or Hashrate over time.

Also nice to have would be number of transactions/day over time...

[EDIT] Where do you get the "Estimated Network Hashrate" from? http://fc.dontmine.me/accountdetails and https://featherpool.com/ show much higher hashrates.
Charts are a bit more complex as it requires the recording of history, and thus, a database.

Very nice work, a suggestion, if any new data is added, make it in a starkly contrasting color format, or a new page.
Thanks! I'm planning on changing the colour scheme and organization to improve readability

I think getting network hash over 1500 blocks is a bit too many. You might want to drop that number down significantly.
What would you say is a good number? I can change it to calculate over the last n blocks but it'll take an extra API call. i.e. the page will load slightly slower.

Very nice work....Just a heads up for your abbreviations you're using FTC where as everywhere else it is refered to as FC. not a huge deal but should probably change it
Is the official format FC? I was using FTC because I was following the common practice of naming currencies with three letter abbreviations, e.g. USD, JPY, BTC, etc.

Next difficulty estimate calculation is broken it shows 36, but it's not true, next difficulty should be about 27.
That's because it's calculating from the last difficulty retarget and the hashrate has increased since then. I supposed it might be possible to use some calculus to find the instantaneous hashrate or something.
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Genericizing the term "Bitcoin" on: April 23, 2013, 09:16:14 PM
In talking with people who don't own any cryptocoins, I've sometimes been using the term "Bitcoin" to mean all cryptocoins in general, and the community surrounding them.  i.e., if I traded Litecoin for Terracoin today, and gained, I might say "I made some bitcoin today."

A better term is probably 'coin or cryptocoin, but I'm liking the idea of genericizing the term.  I'm sure it would royally piss some people off.
Personally I like the term cryptocoin, or just 'coin if you're in knowledgable company.
I did read Mathcoin (math based coin) in a news article, which is interesting because it's short and laypeople may not know what crypto is.
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN][FeatherCoin][Stratum] FC.GETCOINAGE.COM - New Stratum Only Pool on: April 23, 2013, 09:11:18 PM
No, that is not the case... if this should work out, I plan on releasing the updates I've done to Stratum to get it working with FC(which should also work with Litecoin)... info on this alone is a pain in the neck to find!

Yes, I haven't posted much, but I didnt' join just to promote this pool... and in fact when I first joined I didn't intend to run a pool at all.  I like the idea of a altcoin based on Litecoin and with the need for a Stratum Pool not really out there, I decided I'd give it a go.

If you don't want to throw all your miners at this pool or any for that matter, no loss on my part, and no hard feelings! Smiley

I really want this to be legit, I do.
I think you should make some posts around the forums, to show you're trustworthy.
If people steadily get paid from your pool, I'll jump on board 100%.
Do you have much experience with running servers, etc.?

IPv6 User here... site doesn't work for me lol
I see "Coming soon: Another fine website..."

Pinging benhohner.com [2607:f0d0:1103:106::18]
Aha, I've been having a couple reports of it not working, which were baffling because a bunch of people can still get on.
It must be IPv6. I'll look into it, thanks Smiley
9  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Just lost 6.4 bitcoins or 663 euros from MT.gox STOLEN on: April 23, 2013, 05:19:01 AM
Ouch that sounds pretty horrible. You may have been subject to a Man-In-The-Middle attack, or someone may have brute forced your password. Maybe someone stole your Mt.Gox session for a malicious website you visited. There are so many threats.

When picking a password, the longer you can go, the better.
Code:
Correct horse battery staple!
is a better password than
Code:
14Ms0l33t!$

Either way, I feel sorry for your loss. Hope it doesn't happen again!

Is the time to next diff posted anywhere?  Next one will probably be a huge jump...

I just made a site with the following:
  • Current Block
  • Current Difficulty
  • Expected Time to Find a Block
  • Estimated Network Hashrate
  • Estimated Time to Difficulty Retarget
  • Projected Next Difficulty
  • Total Coins Mined
Check it out: http://benhohner.com/feathercoin/statistics.php

Hey I've set up a super detailed FC mining calculator over at: http://benhohner.com/feathercoin/
And also a bunch of blockchain stats, like total hashrate and projected next difficulty at: http://benhohner.com/feathercoin/statistics.php
Here's the thread if you're interested in suggesting improvements Smiley

Can you please add information similar to http://allchains.info/ ?

After many hours and much fun, I have delivered! See my original post for updates Smiley
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: UPDATED FC Feathercoin Bounties and how you can help, earn FC, get FREE FC on: April 23, 2013, 03:55:51 AM
How many coins per day would you guys say with one 7950? a 7970?
7950: ~600 KHash/s
7970: ~700 KHash/s
Now, I can't verify the accuracy of this page cause I haven't been able to get the stated hashes out of my 6990, but it's usually pretty close I would imagine.

A new bounty has been added:

** 2000 FC bounty for a network stats page **
Stats page must include the following:
1. Network Hash Rate
2. Expected Time per Block
3. Current Block
4. Current Difficulty
5. Next Difficulty Estimate
6. Time to Retarget

Just PM me if you are going to be working on this Smiley
