Yes, you can send GBP, but you need to open a GBP account, otherwise it will be converted to $ for an extra exchange fee.

As far as I can see I can move my account between GBP and USD by changing the currency at the top right hand of the screen?

Hi

On the Mt.Gox page it says:

You can do bank transfers to our bank in Japan in the following currencies:
USD, GBP, EUR, CAD, CHF, SEK, DKK, NOK, AUD , NZD, HKD, SGD.  Any fee charged by your bank or an intermediate bank will be deducted.  Our bank charges a 1,000 Yen receiving fee.

Does this mean I can send GBP to them and my account will then show a GBP balance. And then I can trade using GBP?

Is this a better option or should I convert to USD and trade in USD?

Thanks.

Hi guys

I am going to buy some coins from either Mt.Gox or BitStamp.

Before I do that what steps do I need to take to store the coins or can I just keep the coins in my online account with gox or stamp? Or do I need a wallet?

Thanks.

6  Other / Beginners & Help / Anyone used transferwise.com to make transfer to Mt.Gox? on: April 21, 2013, 07:10:31 PM
Hi guys

I am in the UK and looking at a way to easily (and cheaply) fund an Mt.Gox account.

Has anyone used www.transferwise.com to transfer from the UK (or elsewhere) to an Mt.Gox account or to a BitStamp account?

Thanks.

I have a verified MtGox account (verification took about 2 weeks).
My bank charged £25 for the International transfer and MtGox charged a further £12 so it's a bit pricey unless you're sending significant amounts.
I've also bought from Localbitcoins.com sellers and had no problems. You pay a premium though, but it's good for small quantities.

Yeah it costs more to buy from localbitcoins which makes me think transferring money to Mt.Gox and paying the fee may result in an overall cheaper transactions depending on amount?

Also what about using something like www.transferwise.com to make the transfer to Mt.Gox?

You can use MtGox from the UK but you have to pay for a wire transfer to their bank account and the fee is pretty hefty.

Which side is the fee charged on and do you know how much it is? As in does my bank charge or does theirs?

Thanks

I believe you have to pay the fee to start the transfer on your end, if you have online banking sign in and go to transfers and it should tell you the fee's you have to pay.

What about using something like www.transferwise.com to make the transfer to Mt.Gox?

Would that avoid the fees?

Thanks.

Then there's bitstamp but I think they may only accept transfers in EUR and not GBP? Plus I am not sure they have much volume on their site if I wanted to sell?

Is that a problem when you are in SEPA territory? I believe exchange fees are very low to nonexisting.

So far Bitstamp seems to work, volumes are very far from MtGox but that does not matter much unless you are investing very large sums. It does seem to stop working when they are under heavy strain from fast price increases or drops but that's pretty much par for any exchange site sadly.

I think MtGox offers SEPA transfers too, but there is a long waiting list to get your account cleared.

So maybe my best bet would be to use Bitstamp for now until I get a verified account on Mt.Gox and then use them?

Any idea on what fee they will charge for a UK bank transfer to Mt.Gox?

I am in the same boat as you buddy, I just try to buy privately using UK Bank Transfer.

Yeah I have thought about that but you don't always get the best price this way. And then how would you sell if you needed to quickly?

Hello everyone!

Long time lurker looking to finally buy/sell some bitcoins! My question is where is the best place I can buy/sell coins?

> Obviously there is Mt.Gox and although they are most used no one seems to like them very much? My thoughts were maybe try using Mt.Gox with OKPAY?

> Then there's bitstamp but I think they may only accept transfers in EUR and not GBP? Plus I am not sure they have much volume on their site if I wanted to sell?

Any advice would be very helpful!

Thanks!
