I only started mining a few weeks ago and looking at the roller-coaster ride. Don't have "real" money invested in this so beside making more or less from one day to another it's all good to me. If it goes up then my BTC worth is climbing, if not then it stays the same.

Only got into this as a tryout when Hexide decided to ditch Paypal in favor of bitcoins anyway.
4  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie's, What's You're Biggest Bitcoin Related Problem? on: April 25, 2013, 04:03:18 AM
In regards to Litecoin, I thought about mining then decided screw it i'll just buy a bunch.  Then realized that getting USD into BTC-E as a Canadian is way too much work!

Have you thought about using https://www.cavirtex.com/ first top buy bitcoins then turn those into litecoins. Haven't used it myself yet but at least they seem to be based in Canada.

My biggest Bitcoin related problem is the time it takes for a transaction to be confirmed.

Yes, 5 posts and 4 hours of browsing the forum as reported by the "Total time logged in" at the top of the page.

Go back 8 posts before yours, and you will be able to read the $24 amount that's been mentioned there.
7  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Private keys in multiple instances? on: April 25, 2013, 03:49:22 AM
Yeah, I was just wondering myself if I could install a Bitcoin wallet on my Android device and use the same key/addresses I have on my desktop. That way I would have access to my funds pretty much everywhere.

Is that possible to do so, and is it a good idea?
8  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How long until I can post outside the newbie area? on: April 25, 2013, 03:45:11 AM
Strange I can PM and all without posting..  Over 6 hours here too and cant post.

Well, you needed 5 posts too... I'm guessing you can move on to greener pastures now.

For my part, I just wish I had registered sooner. I've spent way more than 4 hours in these forums but only created an account today because I wanted to answer someone. Didn't exactly work out the way I planned.  Wink

PS Is there a quick way to 'reply with quote' or does one have to copy and paste between quote tags?
Yeah, I'm pathetic, I know  Roll Eyes

Yes, just hit the "Quote" button un the upper-right of the post you're replying to.
10  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Slush's Pool Hack / Payout on recovery on: April 24, 2013, 08:43:13 PM
I'm new at this myself. Only started mining at the beginning of the month when Hexide started using bitcoins instead of Paypal.

Well... All was good until the hack. From reading the thread it looks like slush has no way of tracking shares for blocks mined while the database is down. As such I think (please correct me if im wrong) he's sharing them amongst those that are still mining when it comes back up.

It's also my understanding, although I'm wondering too what will happen if my miner gets disconnected or something. Do I have to be connected thrgouh the whole of the outage or will it recognize the fact that I was on for most of it anyway?

Why did it take so long?  Seems the most frustrating part with btc.

Your client needs to download the entire blockchain which is a log of every transaction that ever happened on the bitcoin network. This is how it's kept secure, by having everyone hosting the entire transaction log.

14  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Amount of Bitcoin addresses on: April 24, 2013, 03:43:08 PM
Considering the fact that transactions are somewhat anonymous, having mutliple address is the best way to manage where the coins are coming from. Just be careful to make a new backup if you go over the basic 100 addresses.

16  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: GPU Mining on: April 24, 2013, 03:28:00 PM
I only started mining coins 3 weeks ago, mostly out of curiosity. Currently getting 0.05 BTC every other day... so if ever it's not worth it anymore I could just as well stop and move on to other things. Of course, alternative currencies like Litecoin could be worth exploring too.
17  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BTC Price Stability on: April 24, 2013, 03:25:10 PM
It didn't even occur to me to start using bitcoins until one outlet where I bought digital goods online gave up on Paypal and started using bitcoins exclusively. As it's usage gets more widespread, it will help stabilize it, along with more that 1 exchange for it of course.
