Did I miss this sale?  It's still showing as sold out...

11AM (16 Jan, GMT+8)

I guess my notification got lost in the mail... thanks to Kano community for the heads up.  Do we happen to know how much they are going to cost THIS time around?  I assume BCH only again?

Thanks all!

Mine On!

Good morning Team Kano

LOVING the weekend block party... makes me bullish on expanding my little operation.  Doing a little Sunday morning couch shopping for miners...

Anyone seen this and have any experience dealing with them?  https://tidbit.store/category.php?page=2&catid=btc&results=6&orderin=ASC&orderby=ID

Also, has anyone bought into the Dragonmint hype?  https://halongmining.com/

Both seem likely to be filed in the "too good to be true" category.  Nobody is advertising T9s or R4s anymore, much less at essentially "retail" prices from Bitmain.

Mine on!  Let's finish January in the green!

Time to crack this block, we're over 100% now.   Time to start dancing.

DANCE DANCE DANCE AND MINE ON WITH KANO-SAN!

I think we found our new block goddesses!

And for those working through the 5nd you can always go to the website and go to rewards and see what you will get on the last block. Then you can copy that BTC amount, go into Coinbase or on the internet and go to where it says Buy/Sell paste the amount of BTC you copied from your Rewards page into the BTC column and it will tell you how much that BTC is worth at current market value. That is about how much you will get once the block has been verified, or close to it unless BTC price changes a lot. It gives you an idea anyway.

There are probably easier ways, it's what I do.

I copy the reward digits and then Google:  X.xxxxxxx btc in usd

Google has a quick calculator that provides a conversion right in the search results.  Bingo!

Keep the blocks coming, peeps

I just started using the ckpool android app about a week ago. Is it possible the app is being used as part of a DDos attack?
I like the ability to check my hash rate and to get an alert when the pool finds a block. It does check it every 10 minutes or so.
Just wondering. I realize the "distributed" part of the attack means it comes from a lot of different sources, but there is the possibility of over 900 users hitting your pool info at whatever interval the app is set for.

I've been using the CKPool android app for a while too.  Last week I got a whole bunch of block alerts coupled with "your hashrate has dipped below... " alerts... I got really excited that we scored a string of blocks until I realized how unlikely that really was given our luck lately  Wink

Then it just happened again this morning.  Thought we had a block, but nope.  And got the same "your hashrate dipped" alert as well.

App problem, or related to the DDoS reported by Kano, or... ?

Thanks all.  Still hanging in this pool since I started mining over the summer... I will be sacrificing a TURKEY tomorrow... two in fact... that must count for something!

*Edit:  crikeys, can you tell I really don't post too many messages here?? ha!

$1310 sounds like a pretty fair price.

How do I get on the pre-order list?

Looks like I missed the window too.  How do you get on their list?  I've looked and looked for a sign up page... also reached out to Canaan about getting on their list, but never got a reply from their Customer (non)-Service team... shocking.

Thanks!

Well yeah the qrcode (barcode) is just the long API key on it's own.

The URL to the API is what's shown below without the https://kano.is on the front of it.
The reason the code is there like that is coz if any web page or app needs just the API key, without the full URL, that's what it gives you.
It's not difficult to add the rest of the text (though it is slow) but the API key itself is necessary to be 100% correct but more difficult to enter correctly due to it's length and the fact it's random, so you can scan that part with a qrcode reader on your phone/tablet.

If the full URL doesn't work, then I guess their program requires something different.
Tell them to change it Tongue

However, be wary of 'random' programs accessing the API.
It would seem that some coders think that the more often you get the API the better ... but in fact it's pointless accessing the API over and over.
Probably about once every 5 or 10 minutes is more than enough if you are looking for a miner that's gone offline.
If you do access it too often, your IP will get auto-banned for a while ... come back the next day Smiley

I'm doing a possible update to KanoDB today if I get the changes I'm doing finished.
I'll add another qrcode of the full URL below the one already there also, if I get time.

Thanks Kano and gchil0... I did get the app working and pulling in Kano stats.

I'll take a look at app settings to see if I can prevent it from pinging the DB too many times per day.  Agree that all I'm really trying to do is keep track of miners to be sure they are up and running.

Thanks again

Evening Folks (if you're on the East Coast US)

Can pool status be monitored through the PoolWatch app (via Google Play store)?  I've had the CKPool Status app up and running for a while now, but PoolWatch works for another pool that I am using and I'd like to be able to monitor Kano stats from the same app if possible.

PoolWatch is asking for a "complete API URL (including API key)" ... I've tried scanning the barcode from my Kano user account page, entering the API listed, and the API for workers, all listed on my account page.  No luck.

If it doesn't work at all, no big deal, just thought I would ask for a little help here.

Thanks and keep up the good work.  September is starting out strong!

Cheers

Well the game keno is pronounce 'key-no' here in the USA, so when I see Kano my mind reads 'kay-no'.  Great, now I've gotta retrain my mind!  Tongue

in US (at least in some places) even va-cation is pronounced vey-cation, LOL and jaguar is pronounced either as jag-u-ar or jag-wire.
Another one is Addy-das vs A-dee-das.

Now, how about we find some blocks?!?!?!?

.....

So if your miner does ~17THs then you'd expect to expend (3.9x10^21) / (17*10^12) seconds, on average, to find a block at the current difficulty
Which is about 233million seconds or about 7.4 years Tongue
But since difficulty changes, there no point in saying that silly large number, it's better to simply say that at the current difficulty, your 17THs has a 1 in 2699.7 chance of finding a block in 1 day, which makes sense and is correct to actually say that.

Of course it's random and you could find it today, or you could never find it.
Them's the breaks Smiley

I also have a web page that does these sort of calculations for you:

Wow!  Great explanation that did go a little over my head, but I get the gist of it and I can see the numbers getting huge very quickly.  I will settle in and wait for my dice to roll double 6's   Cheesy

Thanks for the calculator link too, good stuff.

Block! by gmb Smiley with ~30Ths Smiley

That one was also pretty awse coz it's not completely full (63 second network block) but I watched the payout for 479844 go out about 1 minute 41 seconds before the block was found and bang, a block with the payout in it, and it didn't even waste any block space at all (not even free space) Cheesy

Possibly dumb question about block finding... I've been mining in Kano for about a month now, watching this message board like a hawk and learning a lot along the way.

I am looking forward to getting on the Acclaim Board some day.  How does one "find" a block... is it the miner who solves the last calculation or fills the last space in a given block?  I can clearly see the big miners with PH power find more blocks.  With just ~17 TH to my name, will I ever "find" one... is this a factor of luck?  Am I even using the right terminology?

OK that was actually 3 questions.   Grin

Thanks in advance!

There'll be a pool restart at 12:00 UTC in half an hour.

It will mean a failover and an immediate failback for ALL miners.

This is an update of the mining pool code to include segwit transactions in our work (since they clearly have been working on the network for a while now) and a fix for the deadlock long ago back in Feb Tongue
I've also added a log dump of the block information so I can find out what these valid 'inconclusive' blocks we are getting are.
Unfortunately the update failed dismally Sad
I switched back to the old code again and all is OK again.

Total outage was 2 minutes.
I terminated the pool at 21:59:56, but then had to switch back to the old code, all nodes had reconnected by 22:01:51 so miners would have failed back from then.

More work to do.

Good luck Kano and thanks for all that you do!

I currently only have 2 R4's for 17.2 TH. I will be adding my 1st S9 later today (on IPS truck for delivery) to increase my TH to 30.7.

Then in a few more weeks, I will be adding another S9 for a total of around 44.2 TH.

Love this pool !

Its a big day for blocks... and adding more pool power!  Just fired up my first S9 as well tonight.  woot!

In case you have noticed my initial investment was under $1000. Investment after that was me paying for electricity out of my day job so the more rare bitcoin could be kept to purchase more miners. Bitmain also is a bit slow on production, doubtless because they are using most of their product for themselves on their farm. You have to check Bitmain's website often to get a chance to purchase a S9.

Hope this info was helpful in some way.
Thanks, that is basically my strategy as well.  I live in Maine so the electricity is actually cheap (compared to other parts of the country, not as cheap as WA though) and eventually we will get into cold weather which should help keep the miners happy.  I hope to expand the number of machines with proceeds from the S7, and the only reasonable S9 prices seem to be direct from Bitmain but then you're waiting 10-12 weeks for the next batch to come out.  I refuse to spend a $1000 premium just to order from someone on Ebay that is waiting themselves for a pre-ordered machine they don't even have in their hands yet!

We have a hosting company in ME that quoted me almost $450/mo for 2 miners.  I laughed.  I can continue to foot the home electric bill but the noise is more than I expected... the wife keeps asking me who left the vacuum running all day when we get home from work at night!

This is how I picture my "miner" at home working all day and night while I am at the office.  I too am trying to pad the nest for retirement!

Okay great thanks guys for the responses. So would you say kano pays better than pools like antpool, slushpool, and f2pool on average with just one S9?

Yes, two reasons.
Kano shares the transaction fees received when a block is mined as well as the 12.5 bitcoins . This results in blocks with values between 12.5 to 16.5 bitcoins.
Secondly Kano charges a smaller fee, .9%, on the miners earnings.
All of the large pools keep the transaction fees. Slush and Kano, both medium sized pools, share the transaction fees with their miners. Some smaller pools share transaction fees, some don't.

The only pseudo drawback to Kano is that it sometimes goes a day or almost two without hitting a block. That can be discouraging if you are a newbie. Kano also splits the payouts so they are about 20% of value earned divvied up over 5 payments. This is done to smooth out payments even if the input of blocks is very irregular. It means you will receive smaller more numerous payouts untill you have been mining for about 4 or 5 days. After that ramp up time you will receive numerous full payouts. My current payout with two S9s is a bit over .005 per payout. What varies is the number of these payouts I see per day. If averages hold that would mean I will receive .013 bitcoin or better per day for 2 S9s.
I added the second S9 less than a month ago so I can not give you hard figures yet.

Kano pool requires a bit more patience due to the 20% payout system and its some what irregular block find timing. I would strongly recommend committing to Kano pool for no less than 2 weeks and then you will see for yourself how much more you are receiving compared to other pools.

edited to correct error in transaction fee value. dzimmerm

I did a lot of research before buying a used S7 and getting into mining... Kano seemed to be the best pool for fees, I liked the "medium size" vs. joining a mega pool like Antpool... and quite frankly, this discussion board has been really helpful and interesting as I get further into the business.  Seems like a nice community that celebrates blocks, congratulates new block finders (no such luck for me yet!) and respectfully answers rookie questions (thanks Overcon, for the explanation last week)

Now I need to figure out where/how to do remote hosting and how to expand my mining fleet without paying a zillion dollars for equipment on Ebay.

mine on!

Thanks, that was a helpful explanation.  I've been reading about the exchanges and other coins (mostly ETH and LTC) and I saw the big ETH crash last week.  Amazing to see the "wealth" vanish in a second.

I thought you might have been talking about trading on an exchange, but I thought maybe you had a successful method you'd be willing to share some hints!  Wink

I'll keep researching and may try to dabble in the markets a bit.  The idea of creating coins thru mining seems safer for my money than trying to buy low and sell high... I don't feel that lucky!

Thanks again

Free hosting? I would suggest, and this is just me and what I do, without free hosting, is take the money I get from mining, move it to an exchange and trade in alt coins to make more Bitcoin, which I am getting really good at, and then use the coin to purchase another S9 when I can, rinse and repeat.
Morning All:

I'm new to this game but reading reading reading and learning a lot in just a few days.  This forum has been super helpful so thanks to all the veterans!  My one measly S7 is mining in KanoPool and it makes me excited to expand with S9(s) as soon as possible.

So... if you could explain what you mean above by trading in alt coins to make more BTC, I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks!
