Can someone explain why sgminer automatically forces a terminal window to be open? I really hate having the terminal open while I'm using the pc, so I was using the following vbs script to hide cgminer: CreateObject("Wscript.Shell").Run "F:\miner.bat", 0, True It works perfectly fine with cgminer and runs the .bat file without issue, and without a CMD window, but whenever I try using it with sgminer it will force open a CMD window. The above vbs script will open the sgminer bat file without issue, and sgminer will run without issue, but it will sit there in a CMD window. Any way to get this to work similar to cgminer, without a CMD window? Scheduled Tasks: start on logon -> inv.cmd: wscript.exe "C:\Coins\invisible.vbs" "C:\Coins\start_miner_bg.cmd" exit
-> invisible.vbs: CreateObject("Wscript.Shell").Run """" & WScript.Arguments(0) & """", 0, False
+ start_miner_bg.cmd: @echo off cd "C:\Coins\sgminer-5.0-daily-20140712-15-win32\" 6950_7950_Powercolor_Stock-p8h6v_BG.cmd
+ 6950_7950_Powercolor_Stock-p8h6v_BG.cmd: @echo off ....date crap... sgminer -c 6950_7950_Powercolor_Stock-p8h6v_multi_BG.conf 2>c:\log\sgminer_%ldt%_bg.log exit
Works for me on Win7. Thanks, turned out what I needed to do was get rid of the bat file and run sgminer.exe direct through the vbs script, with a config file. I have no idea why, but it works fine. Thanks

The biggest thing is anonymity. If silk road or whatever is running these days adopts Darkcoin, it will take over litecoin.
Alts are driven by demand, dogecoin proved that. It's all about what is in demand. A silk road type marketplace will seriously drive demand up, which is what's critical.

I think the main problem with myriad coin is there is just too damn many of them, the market is saturated with I think over 60 million coins now and it's only a month old? Hardly bears well for creating a scarce crypto currency to sit alongside Bitcoin. It may be fun for miners but what is the practical use for consumers, why should they want to exchange it for goods or services?
The actual quantity is irrelevant when it'd digital and divisible.

Please remove stablehash.com pools from first post as they've stolen a lot of coins from miners !
give them credit and some time, I guess... and I hope Stablehash skein pool is up and running stable. Hope they fix the payout issue. Trust is all that matters. Have to say I'm pretty disapointed. They've made payouts, and the site is back up and running for the Groestl pool, but the payout they've given is about 1/3 what it should be. They've also fixed the unconfirmed bug, but those 2/3 of coins have gone missing. 3 days of consistent mining with accepted shares over that period has netted 1 days worth of coins. I'd be good to get an answer and response from the team there at stablehash

Thought I'd give some simple instructions for anyone new like me: As it says in the original thread, for windows: 1. Make sure you have Java installed. 2. Download nxt.zip: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/67242472/nxt.zip3. Unzip where you like 4. Create a .bat file, call it nxt.bat, then edit it with notepad and type 'java -Xms512m -Xmx1024m -jar start.jar' without the commas. Put the nxt.bat in your nxt folder. 5. Open the following address in firefox or chrome: http://localhost:78746. Click the lock button in the top left corner, then enter a pass-phrase. Save this as you'll need it. 7. That's it. Now in the top left corner is your NXT address. Hope this helps anyone else. --------------------------- Thanks: 15201320301202517824

Difficulty seems to be steadily increasing. Anyone know what's happening?

Bitcoin dropped due to Chinas increasing regulatory pressure/banning, and a few independent decisions by US banks to stop bitcoin related transactions.
Also, the market was overvalued and overpriced based on chinese hype. We'll be seeing a levelling off for a while (probably the next month or two).
I wouldn't be surprised if $300 was on the cards.

Not a chance.
There are alts that have promise, but none will take over bitcoin.
Alts with promise:
* PPCoin * Primecoin * Namecoin * Litecoin (not for any real reason, just because it's second on the list).
