Ah... good question. Let me try to answer. Given the state of the market on a global scale (both blockchain and conventional startups), we don't see direct competitors. There are projects like Bitclave (advertising) and Wolk (IoT oriented, but wanted $150M and had to return funds to the investors)... then I saw token reviews which compared us to digital wallets ().

Datum is not marketing play, not is an IoT play. We are a data play, and want to parse data and enable direct communication between data owners and data buyers, making sure everyone is compliant with existing upcoming data ownership or data protection laws. As a part of our compliancy program, we're not charging for such transactions.

Realistically, if you have a direct competitor to a company that takes as much machine-readable data as possible, please let us know. We believe in cooperation and collaboration, which is how "Datum Enabled" ecosystem already has two products hitting the market, with more on the way.

You'd be surprised. That number is Annual Revenue Per User - ARPU. So, that's how much you're worth to advertisers and businesses every year. Of course, you could also add in the whole advertising industry which targets your eyeballs - so you could take 546 billion USD p.a., and divide it by 7.4 billion (total number of people in the world), or 4.77 billion (number of people with a mobile phone) or a similar number. That would be from USD $73.37 to $114.47 in addition to our calculation.

Realistically, even though we speak a lot about Google and Facebook (because the audience here is very tech savvy), realistically speaking - a lot of advertising is on other medium we do not even count. TV, cinema, printed ads, banners, catalogues, billboards, magazine ads, and other alternate means of advertising.

Datum looks into advertising as one source where people can monetize. Let's be real, real data you create is much more valuable than ads themselves.

Hi, the payment structure will be decided once we launch our test network - which is happening in a few weeks. We look to be significantly more affordable that commercial enterprises.

As far as I know, we're looking into data streams, and the value of the data is not the size, rather the stream. We're not looking for binary files like images or videos, rather machine readable data. That data is miniscule in comparison. Believe it or not, but the amount of data you generate in a year is less than one short video on YouTube in HD quality.

That is our primary focus.

TL; DR Version:

The three co-founders have several businesses (supply chain, robotics), and they were wondering how could they protect the data from hacking. Then, universal income referendum in Switzerland (Roger, Gebi, VC are all born and raised Swiss) happened and they were debating that every human has a value, because practically every human is being monetized through advertising / data collection.

Need to protect the data for the devices made, need to protect the data for humans, need to establish a new security protocol that enables safe data sharing... and an idea for marketplace was born. April 2016 became September 2016, then came April 2017, August 2017 with the pre-sale and we're now in November with two hardware devices, and many more to come.
