1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: why there is so much fuss about decentralized exchanges on: April 09, 2019, 01:34:39 PM
DEX's often don't have, but need: ease of use, liquidity, speed

They also benefit from other features but the most important feature is to keep custody of your own assets until they are exchanged
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: why there is so much fuss about decentralized exchanges on: April 09, 2019, 09:22:11 AM
Decentralized exchanges are not perfect, but neither are they wide open to abuse like a centralized exchange is.

Many so called "hacks" on exchanges are in fact exit scams.

A DEX will not cure this right away, but it will help .. a lot .. especially if used carefully. There will be DEX hacks, there will be DEX scams .. but the chances are greater of an honest experience

There are issues, there are partial solutions.

One of the self defeating characteristics of a DEX is revenue. A centralized exhange can fund tech, marketing, hype, partnerships - all the things decentralization usually offer when you get economies of scale. This will happen one day with a DEX and if it manages its revenue streams well they may take off.

Meanwhile you will get "centralized DEX" jumping in to muddy the water (say Binance DEX) as they see the writing is on the cards unless they can confuse the market place

I forgot to add, that with VoteCoin, we're also considering ways how to enable "equal voice" votes, which would include a possibility for government to distribute only certain VOT coins to the citizens of given country, and let the citizens vote in some political elections using those "special" VOT coins only, so the elections couldn't be influenced by "big fishes" or even by people from different states. This is work in progress currently.

Great idea - I wonder where that came from Wink

Hi

Before I end up re-inventing the wheel, does anyone know if there's already in existence anywhere that serves up the historic price of VoteCoin/BTC in JSON format - ideally 1 minute intervals maybe going back up to 24 hours?

ta

Iain

Actually, that was much easier than I expected - a few minor hiccups but this is now all working - the output is a fairly simple btc price and time for VOT...

[{"btc":"0.00000320","timestamp":"2018-01-22 21:09:46"},{"btc":"0.00000320","timestamp":"2018-01-22 21:10:17"}]

but the web host is having some issues with PHP so until that's fixed it's not going to be a stable thing

Why don't you pick up coinmarketcap  API and make a request with python?
https://coinmarketcap.com/api/

hmmm - I can't see how I would get historic data from that at the moment (and I doubt it would ever be at the 1 min resolution) - is it possible? Currently I'm using the tradesatosh api to get the current rates and simply save this to a mySQL db. This gives me the scope to setup the data in any format I want using a SQL query, so for example those candle chart things would have 30 min intervals with a time, high, low, open and close value in each row of the dataset

coinmarketcap - You can only scrape the rates historically on daily - they advertise an API SOON but nothing i know of right now

Tradesatoshi holding around 8/9 - i don't know what is happening on Mercatox - its seems it is being pumped every now and again but the wallets are closed (and have been for weeks) so its a bit of a close environment - currently 24/30 ish

Here you have some reviews about Mercatox - https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/mercatox.com
So be careful

I think Mercatox are more a victim of losing management and/or support staff and exchange tech problems - they advertise having a huge backlog of tickets and i see wallets go up an down - some time after Jan 9th when many people were complaining of being unable to withdraw i was able to route my LTC -> BTC -> Dash and withdraw but i was concerned. This leads me to believe it is not a scam per se but a broken exchange with very little or no support staff. I would agree that with such a poor experience they should not be operating and would not transact any large amount or leave anything standing with them for long

How do we import keys from the swing wallet to the GUI wallet?

I have no idea. We always discouraged users from using swing wallet...
In the future, the "backup" section of VoteCoin GUI wallet should contain sectoin to import private keys, so as long as you are able to export private keys from swing wallet, it should be possible to import.

The swing wallet is merely a cli front end to your windows cli wallet, so the instructions are as per your official windows cli wallet

- 87% in tradesatoshi, is this coin dead?

1 guy sold 2m LTK in 1 sale - probably as a result of the current BTC selloff - liquidity is thin and will take time to build

Very good coin to invest in early, still not listed on coinmarketcap very less exposure so still huge potential to spike up when it show up on coinmarketcap list
What is more important is the team's future development plan, what exactly is to be done to it?

15 sats sustained is my threshold. Hot SPV/HD android wallet

For a while last week we nearly made it - damn !

If it goes much higher i'll go for an atomic swap with Komodo

LTK up 50% today on TradeSatoshi 8/9 -> 14: someone is accumulating - keep in mind that should the current level of Supply (Ask prices) remain as is the price has no choice but to rise

It's your call, but i am not selling

Is this project working ? Seems like Developer is not active in this coin.

I can see this is listed by Mercatox and other trade sites. But its value is not increasing due to no news.

Hope developer or Promotion staff will entertain little bit

Mercatox is not credible because you cannot credit LTK to the exchange - the wallet is and has been down for a week or more now. TradeSatoshi is far from mooning but the value of LTK is moving slowly upwards - a month ago it was trading around 4/5 and now is trading around 8-10

Sometimes people just need constant Dopamine injections to sustain their interest in a coin - they need it to be mooning constantly. But what happens when it does - so often it crashes. Sometimes it is better that a coin grows slowly, organically. For 3 months  from Sep-Nov Ripple was boring - it did nothing, then it exploded !

Yes i would agree that the coin is not so much promoted - but the opposite extreme is no better - baseless hype

Is it dead - certainly not !

Any plans for this coin this 2018? This coin needs attention, they don't believe in this coin because it is not yet listed on coinmarketcap. Please make LTK list on coinmarketcap first.

I think its needs a minimum trading volume first - the best way to do that would be some wash trading on an exchange to generate synthetic volumes - any low/no fee exchanges out there - lol

There are some odd things - TradeSatoshi currently showing 7/10 and gradually rising, whilst Mercatox is showing 32/54 (make that 40/54) but not allowing deposits !!!

I also see
An inability to withdraw XRB from Bitgrail for a few days now
An inability to withdraw DBC from Gate.IO for a few days now

Time to get my foil hat on ?

Hmm ! The price is 16/18 on Mercatox but you can't move anything in as the wallet is disabled for incoming transfers
And Tradesatoshi has been practically unusable for last few days

Lucky am HODL'ing then  Smiley

The release timing of the coin was unfortunate - it coincided with the altcoin winter when people were chasing Bitcoin fork rewards, when it missed the initial hype for a new coin.

It has no ICO to manipulate the market or offer any significant developer rewards

But i believe in it enough to spend a significant amount of my time to get a piece of software to alpha stage (there are people out there who can use it) and to sit on my HODL and collect more ..

And you guys can do as you like .. I am not ready yet  ..
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Litkoin - First Authentic Indonesian Cryptocoin - NO ICO on: January 07, 2018, 10:44:57 AM
Whats the max supply of the coin?

It is 1 Billion LTK  but the more interesting artifact is that the block reward will half around every YEAR - far faster than Bitcoin

This does create  a higher initial supply which actually depresses the price but is likely to trigger significant price action when the halving occurs in about 9 months

Another way to value it is market cap - Doge is currently $1.8B

If you consider the price of LTK MIGHT jump at the halving imagine it might have a market cap of, say, $2b (just run with this for a while)

In Oct 2018 the mined coin will be 450M LTK - that's about $4 per coin

The current value of LTK is $0.00066 which is about 6000 less than Doge

Perhaps it is being mined steadily as a long term "punt" and accumulated at the current low price in order not to drive the price up

In case you point at me saying "core hype" i am happy to share that i am an independent developer working on an android wallet that is almost ready, but with no time to finish it

I work on a Bounty and the reward for delivery at today price will be $170 (dollars, NOT k)

So what would happen if i implemented atomic swaps with Komodo, got the coin posted at Barterdex, (like a coin not far from me) - then look at the amount i would have to expend to drive the price up 10x on TradeSatoshi artificially - there is 1.1BTC sell prices leading up to 50 sat - yes the arbitrage would suck in some value from the miners covering some costs and flow from other exchanges

Imagine i release an android wallet at the same time, a desktop wallet for Mac/Window/Linux and a cute USB bootable wallet, and roadmap for the atomic swap with Komodo, and then the changes needed allow the coin to support Lightning & Rootstock on the roadmap as well

That is all very good if i was a core developer with a high initial stock - maybe shitloads pre-mined

Don't misunderstand me - the premine/prelaunch on this coin is very very low (around 4%) - there is NO early store of, maybe 10-50 BTC from an ICO that can be used to drive/manipulate the price, so it has to be organic. I was an early (but not pre-launch) miner, so i have a few - but only a few

Perhaps i should start a rumor that it might be listed on Cryptopia or even ... Bittrex !!

So i HODL, i mine a little, i collect - the more i collect the higher my reward for the wallet will be - hey i might make $200+)

I could mine/buy at a cost of about 4 sat for as long as i can get away with it

Now, about that wallet release date Huh And a long list of other stuff to do on other projects ...

What should i do ?

Don't think I've ever heard so much drivel. This morning I had never even heard of Electron until reading about it in this thread as the preferred option for wallet development, so thought I'd give it a spin. Easily managed to set this up in VS and I now have a wallet using the Electron framework which has comparable capabilities to the thing you've posted - and includes the coinmarketcap-api for ticker output. If I can do this in under 24 hours then I fail to see why you even need a team of developers...

...oh, wait a minute...

okay - that's export (wallet keys in human readable format) and backup implemented - was going to do encryption but discovered this was removed from zcash for reasons best known to the zcash developers and hence, this same state of affairs has been inherited by votecoin

and all less than 2 days development - I'll leave you to draw your own conclusions...

I couldn't have phrased it better
