1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Bitcoin Core Shuts Down When Attempting To Send BTC on: September 03, 2017, 10:56:59 PM
I just tried to send some coins to a certain address, and after entering my passphrase, it force shuts down Bitcoin Core. The message I get has something to with the runtime or something, as it says it shut down unusually. It has already done this twice, and when reopened, Bitcoin Core has to catch up the last 6 hours (every time).

My PC was recently wiped, but I saved my wallet.dat file. I redownloaded Bitcoin Core, and about 55% through the resync I shut it down and switched the wallet.dat files. I started it back up, it synced for a bit, and then comes across a fatal error and shuts down, redirecting me to the debug.log file. Is my old wallet.dat file causing this, and I need to wait for it to sync to change around wallet.dat files? Or is something worse happening?

Can you post the debug.log here (it's in the same directory as the wallet.dat file is).
It could be many other things, not only your wallet.dat that can be causing the problems, and if it is the wallet.dat, if you can extract the private keys from it and import it into a lightweight wallet like electrum then you can get your coins out.
I'm going to try and switch them after it syncs, I switched the wallet files back to the one from the fresh download and it's syncing now. I might import it anyways though. Thank you Smiley

I recently attempted to open up my bitcoin core wallet to see how much uBTC I had (after viewing the extremely high BTC price), and after it loaded, it stuck to the taskbar and only showed as a white screen in the program preview. It does not open via the taskmanager, or any other way that I tried it. Please help, I have a decent bit of money stuck in a limbo of sorts and I'd really like to get it back. Huh

Has it loaded before. Is it the most recent version of the wallet.

Can you post the operating system that you're using and the debug.log (try searching for this it should be there). Do you get the first loading sceen that then loads a blank app?

If it's windows, it's probably a general window opening issue, just move the exe file and try it again.
If it's linux, make sure all the dependencies are installed - including optional ones.

Yes it has loaded previously, and it is the latest version. I am on Windows 8.1

Yes I do get the loading screen and then it goes blank.

It looks like it got to very close to being fully synced but then stopped working due to some sort of interrupt.
If it did, could you try running it with the -reindex command and see if that does anything to help it load.

BEFORE DOING THIS: Try loading it in safe mode and see if that helps (use safemode with networking) using F6 on startup.

I'm honestly stumped on how to do either of the things you listed, could you please post some steps? It would be much appreciated, as I'm not the most savvy at using cmd.
