1  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: 🏈 2019 Bitcointalk NFL Fantasy Football League- (Full) 🏈 on: August 14, 2019, 04:29:36 AM
Dang...sorry to see the league is already full.  I played in the Monero Fantasy Football league with most of you guys for the last couple of years and had a great time.  Please consider me as an alternate if anyone drops out of the league or doesn't pay up by the draft date. For the record, I'm available at 9PM on 8/28.

I need to set a reminder to check in on bitcointalk earlier next year!

Can you link to a bylaw that you find credible?

Here are a couple sample league constitutions that could be adapted:

https://subscribers.footballguys.com/apps/article.php?article=13grant_commish4
https://www.thefantasyhut.com/football-constitution

There are elements from both of these that I like, but I think either one would need to be modified to fit this league.  I'm willing to take a crack at drafting something if that's something the league is interested in.

How long does the whole draft process usually take? Hour? The hours?

With 8-10 people we're probably looking at 1-2 hours.

So with that being said, how should we go about vetting people in the future leagues from now on to make sure two teams don't collude together to get better players on one team to ensure winning?

In the spirit of this being the Monero Fantasy Football League (and as a participant with a pseudonymous single-use identity), I don't think vetting participants should be required, but I would also be OK with requiring a refundable security deposit for non-vetted participants (including myself).

It might be a good idea to establish some league rules / bylaws to maintain fairness and establish dispute resolution procedures in advance of the start of the league. You can google fantasy football league bylaws / constitutions for some examples.

Edit: Also, is everyone ok with 5 PM on Sunday for the draft??

I'm good with any time on Sunday, but we should clarify the time zone.

Don't know what ppr is.

LOL - dude, our league was *full point* PPR last year - and you won it!

Edit: We've got some people who have voted (only 3 so far including myself), so be sure to vote on the new poll so I can adjust accordingly... thanks Smiley

I can't vote, probably because this account I'm using is still a Newbie, but I'm good with either full or half point PPR.

Edit #2: I looked in the settings for Yahoo and it doesn't look like I have the option to change the playoffs to include a 2 week championship/play off sort of system...  It only allows me to pick the weeks (Weeks 15 and 16, or Weeks 16 and 17) between 4 people; OR can do a 6 person play off in weeks 14, 15, 16; etc.

Ah, bummer. Depending on how many players we end up with I would vote for a four player playoff in weeks 15 and 16.

As the runner-up from last year's league, I feel compelled to avenge my loss to @jwinterm in which he brutalized me with a combination of Le'veon Bell and Todd Gurley in Week 16 of the championship match.

Here is the transaction hash for my 1 XMR buy-in: 0f16a00524e9d044c580a8199e1da85dab2607bc186c0470bb4e476791688878

Regarding the discussion from earlier in the thread about removing Week 17 from the schedule, I would be in favor of keeping it so long as the championship game is a 2-week match where the scores from Week 16 and Week 17 are combined.  I think that type of a championship match helps reward a team with a strong bench and waiver wire skills.

(Full disclosure, I nearly won the league last year by virtue of playing a 17-week schedule. Despite being completely blown out in Week 16, I nearly managed to complete the comeback in Week 17 due to strong performances from my bench players.)

Also, I would be in favor of dropping the kicker for a superflex position (QB/RB/WR/TE) if anyone is up for that.

Congratulations, jwinterm, I thought I might be able to pull off the comeback, but Gurley and Bell Week 16 was just too much to overcome.  Although if I had played Smith-Schuster over Evans, I could have won it!  Oh well...

Regarding league choices for next season...I would agree no dynasty.  I enjoyed the PPR/17-week ESPN format, as my other leagues this year were all standard Yahoo leagues, so it was nice variety.

I'm not a basketball fan either, but will check back for Monero March Madness.  Until then, thanks guys (I assume we're all guys here) for a fun season and an enjoyable Monero experience!

GG lt8877... unless da 🐐 goes full on 🐐 to give the 🐐 fantasy football comeback in the history of fantasy football.

🐐

I fear it may be a pyrrhic victory this week...looks like Wentz is done for.

Also, it's a 2 week playoff, so the tables could definitely turn next week.

Looks like a good game shaping up JW...should be interesting with having to replace the bye week players, plus dumbass Mike Evans getting himself suspended.

Anyone know what the tie breaker is for playoff entry if two people are tied for worst record? Person with more total points goes to playoffs?
According to the League Settings page, it's Total Points.

Brutal week.  Just brutal.

Congrats Hueristic on the win.

A) Total amount of wins per week amongst everyone in the league

B) Total amount of points per season amongst everyone in the league

C) Total amount of points including the bench amongst everyone in the league per week or per season

I would vote A then B then C.  But no worries if we just drop the side bet.

@lt8877 Well that was a great match-up it really came down to the defenses you pickup of the stealers was fantastic (browns suck I almost grabbed them but it was @Cleveland and decided to go with a home team:: W00ps) and My Patriots got beat to shit! They may not be able to field a Defense at all next week! Congrats!!!  Cheesy

Yes, great game Hueristic - tough loss.  I agree that the Steelers D was a key pick-up.  I did not feel confident with the Seahawks going up against the Packers, even at home.  Feeling pretty lucky to get the W this week given that Evans and Ajayi were on bye and I left Fournette on the bench.  NFL week 1 definitely had its surprises.
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Monero Fantasy Football League 2017 on: September 10, 2017, 06:33:03 AM
So there are 14 weeks (I think?) in the regular season for fantasy football, so we would have a competition every week for the total amount of points between everyone and then whoever won the most weeks at the end of the regular season would win the side bet.
Actually, I had assumed we were talking about a side bet on the team with the highest number total number of points for the entire season, but I like the above idea too.  And I had assumed we would be betting a single amount, not a weekly amount.

Basically, just looking for a way to stay engaged on the bye weeks.  (And I have been in plenty of leagues where the championship team was not the one with the highest points or most wins...so it's definitely not a given that the same team would take both. )

Again, count me in for up to 1 XMR total on the side bet, either total number of points for the regular season or the team with the most number of weeks with the highest total points.  Perfectly OK with a lesser amount as well.

@lt8877, your Techmo Bowlers right?

Yup, that's me!

I do not endorse splitting the current kitty for anything...
I like the idea of adding up the total number of "wins" at the end of the season, however, everyone has to be in agreement with how we fund the "winner" for both the actual league and the weekly total...

Maybe we just have a non-mandatory side bet for anyone who wants to play for total points scored?  That way the current pot remains untouched and if anyone wants to opt-out of the points competition they can.  I'd be in for any amount up to 1 XMR.

Well thats my take on the entire draft! PHEW, I'd love to hear all you peops thoughts on your draft.

Great summary. The strategy definitely changes when you have such a small number of teams drafting.  As you mentioned in an earlier post, with this league I think streaming / picking the right players week to week is going to be more important than just playing your draft picks over and over again.

So I was thinking earlier today about how could we make this whole "bye week" thing suck a little less ass... and thought of proposing this:

What if the league throws in a random/smaller amount of Monero into a pot each week, and whoever has the most points (excluding your bench, obviously) amongst everyone wins the pot.

I'm up for it.  We could also split the existing pot, maybe put 10-20% of the total towards this idea, or wait and award it whoever has the most points at the end of the season. The league commish might need to manually keep track of bye week scoring.  Everyone should make sure to set a good lineup, even on bye weeks!

Edit: I asked about having an odd number of teams with bye weeks in the schedule and the best Idea I saw was to have 2 matches per week. I have no clue how that would get set up though.

That's one possibility, although I don't believe the ESPN website supports it.  There are some "custom" fantasy sites that allow that sort of thing, but it would mean we'd have to set up a new league, import the draft results...lots of work, and probably not enough time to do it properly.

Another option I've heard of to deal with an odd number of teams is to create a "scrub" team and fill it with third-stringers that no one will ever want to own.  Then each week the commish calculates the average score per position league-wide and manually adjusts the weekly score for the scrub team to be "average".  This means that whoever plays the "scrub" team has to at least have an "average" week to get a win.  (Of course, the scrub team isn't eligible for the playoffs.) Again lots of work, for the commish, but possibly more competitive.

Can I please get everyone who is signed up to give me a thumbs up or a thumbs down to this time?

Thumbs up.  I'll hop on freenode later today.

My attempts to recruit another player didn't pan out. Only other thought is to maybe post something on r/Monero to see if someone jumps at it today.  Otherwise, I'm OK with having your girlfriend play, as long as everyone else is.

Neither time on Tues / Wed is great for me but I can make either work.  Tuesday at 8PM EDT or Wednesday at 8:30PM EDT would be better.

Is the number of teams final? Seems like there are 7 listed in the league and 5 that have paid?  I believe if we end up with an odd number then at least one team will have a bye each week, and some teams will have more bye weeks than others.  Not ideal from a competitive standpoint.

There are some other possible workarounds to this (ex: points-only scoring, each team plays every other team each week) but I don't believe ESPN supports those options.
