1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am new to Bitcoin, how can I get started? on: January 08, 2018, 11:05:39 AM
You need to read up. A lot.
Also, never trust anyone for investment advice. Make sure you get to a level where you can form your own analysis on when to sell, buy, or HODL.
2  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum bug - what about hardware wallet paired accounts? on: January 08, 2018, 11:03:29 AM
The only case you are in danger is when you opened the Electrum wallet domain and you surf on the internet. That will open the possibility for a hacker to getting access to your wallet.

Hardware wallets work differently. You're talking about the desktop wallet.
3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you use BTC as a digital currency for paying online ? on: December 09, 2017, 04:04:45 PM
hi

I think btc is hard to use to pay online because its speed is too slow.
are you think so?

No we don't think so. Bitcoin is mainly used online to pay online. Most of the companies accept the first confirmation and the 1st confirmation usually takes 10 to 15 mins if you pay the normal default fee. By paying a little more higher fee,  tx can be confirmed much earlier also. Also bitcoin is into transformation through forks and soon this issue of slow confirmation will be solved forever as more larger blocks would be there meaning much earlier confirmations.

While that is true on "normal" days, higher demand could derail it pretty quickly. Take the recent days for example. There are so many people trying to transact that the mempool got spammed. Even setting a high fee with an accelerator could take a while to confirm. I tend to stay away from using it at times like this, but yeah my transactions are pretty fast otherwise.
4  Other / Archival / Re: Bitcoin and global warming on: November 24, 2017, 03:17:58 PM
Bitcoin mining is really contributing in the global warming but as others are saying even banks are doing the same maybe when the time comes that bitcoin replaced the currency fiat system then it will be an acceptable use of energy and contribution to the global warming.

I think its very minimal or even neglectable to what really affects global.warming on a major scale. He focus should be in a more bigger scale and mining btc is the least among those.

Yeah it should be low respectively to the other projects using electricity. Bitcoin's production is not that huge and don't consume that much electricity. Think about giant oil production points, they consume tons of electricity.

Bitcoin is still environmental friendly.

That's not exactly true. Bitcoin's energy consumption has gone above some countries. Granted, these countries are more on the underdeveloped side, but its consumption is growing steadily, and it may come to a point that it can't be ignored anymore.
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin loses 20% in an hour on: November 24, 2017, 03:12:56 PM
Probably $5000. It's a completely arbitrary number though.

Still, at this point, it would take nothing short of a catastrophic event for bitcoin to drop that low. Don't hold your breath.
6  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: I have been stolen 10 btc by fake scam electrum website on: November 07, 2017, 12:01:36 PM
Sorry man, I doubt there's anything you can do. It's good that you posted it though, as you may have saved other potential victims. Most exchanges come with warnings to make sure they're always on the correct URL, and if only people paid attention to those warnings, there wouldn't be any phishing sites.
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin uneven distribution as a global currrency on: November 07, 2017, 11:49:40 AM
Quote
One of the early arguments for bitcoin was that it will allow for a fairer distribution of wealth.

Who actually said this? Bitcoin was much much easier to get in the earlier days so the argument falls apart instantly. I don't think Satoshi mentioned this in his whitepaper either, so it was never designed with that in mind.
8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: About the relationship banks (goverments) and cryptocurrencies on: October 22, 2017, 02:22:49 PM
He could actually be true, once cryptos are widespread and cash is abolished, goverments will be able to monitor all transactions, how much you make, what you buy, where you work, where you travel, how much taxes you have to pay, no more privacy at all, everything will be in the hands of few bankers and oligarchs.

This is assuming that wallets and addresses aren't anonymous though. Honestly, if they weren't anonymous, you're much better off using banks and fiat. Your finances would be hidden from the general public that way, as opposed to non anonymous cryptocurrencies where everyone can see your entire financial history.
9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Switzerland is gradually turning into "the bitcoin country" on: October 22, 2017, 02:19:30 PM
Switzerland is the country of cheese and of famous banks. They know what to do for the money to be in their favor. Especially when it comes to banks, Switzerland is the most progressist country in the world. If you have some money invested in a Switzerland bank then you know that you can trust them. I knew from one month ago that some people can pay their taxes with Bitcoin, thus is Switzerland is turning into "the bitcoin country", you can trust the great future of the bitcoin.

Yeah, Switzerland is pretty much the haven of technological innovation. They fully support new technologies and are quite lax with their regulations, careful not to negatively impact their growth. I wish the rest of the world would follow their model.
10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: contribution to the society of bitcoin on: October 22, 2017, 02:16:23 PM
People will always be quick to say how bitcoin provides opportunity and wealth and that those are its main contribution to society. I beg to differ though. Bitcoin revolutionizes the way transactions work as it completely removes the trust factor. It set off the rise of other cryptocurrencies, which are really pushing innovation to be able to overtake Bitcoin. It serves as both the pioneer and as a paragon that spurs competition. The ideals behind it and the effects they brought about is Bitcoin's true contribution.
11  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is bitcoin games legit? on: October 07, 2017, 07:27:42 AM
What game was it? Did you try to google other user testimonials? You can typically find out which ones are scams by simply Googling.
12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: WHY OWNER IS HIDING on: October 07, 2017, 07:25:27 AM
Maybe it was getting bigger than he was comfortable with? Some people simply don't want attention. He has technically never been out of hiding because his handle was a guise, and he simply abandoned that.
13  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin won't live to see the next 10 years on: October 07, 2017, 07:22:07 AM
I don't think hard forks will ever be a threat. They're improved Bitcoins, to a degree, but being premined hurts them. Other altcoins are more of a threat, but I don't think the one that will eventually topple Bitcoins has been born yet. Ethereum can come close, but it has several issues of its own.
14  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bitcoin is not gambling on: October 01, 2017, 06:13:45 AM
Investing is usually a gamble, so I would argue that investing in Bitcoins can be considered a gamble. You just never know what the price will be tomorrow, so you could potentially lose or gain money.

If you're buying Bitcoins to purchase something else though, then it's just a simple currency.
15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin ban in South Korea on: October 01, 2017, 06:11:12 AM
They are banning ICOs, which are completely different from Bitcoins. Similar news from China made Bitcoin value plummet, so I am glad this did not make significant waves. I guess South Korea is not a big enough market.
16  Economy / Economics / Re: JPMorgan Knocks Bitcoin Again on: September 24, 2017, 05:13:22 AM
We all  know the guy has an agenda. Unfortunately for us, people who have yet to be acquainted with Bitcoins don't. Governments are, at best, lukewarm towards Bitcoins so statements like his can pose problems for us in the future. He does have that case against him so I hope that shuts him up.
17  Local / Altcoins (Pilipinas) / Re: Do you still do business kahit madami ka ng coins? on: September 23, 2017, 08:58:55 AM

18  Economy / Economics / Re: Most people dont even know what this is yet. on: September 23, 2017, 07:59:44 AM
What exactly do you think will happen if people find out what this is? I am going to assume the role of a skeptic here, and say that most are going to brush it off. Bitcoins are awesome, and truly have the potential to replace paper money someday, but it has less than a stellar reputation thanks to it being known as a currency used for cybercrime. It doesn't help that major players are spreading FUD to manipulate its value. As things stand, Bitcoin still has a lot of room for maturity, and the mainstream will not be ready for it until then. There will be people who will be interested and get into it, don't get me wrong, but they will be fewer in number than those who will not.
19  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So whats up with Bitcoin today???? on: September 23, 2017, 07:51:18 AM
Still China lol. Meanwhile you can use this opportunity to boost your portfolio. Everyone is still worried, but we have stabilized a little bit compared to the last week. I honestly don't think we're going lower than $3500 again as far as the China issue goes. They cannot issue worse news nos can they?
20  Economy / Economics / Re: To be a millionaire in the United States is to still be poor on: September 22, 2017, 02:42:21 PM
What? One million dollars is a lot of money. Most people won't see that amount in their lifetimes. It's a lot, but not enough for one to be considered ultra rich. You would still have to live within your means. Spend it on a different state or a different country.
