1  Economy / Services / Re: I want to review the amazing products you sell for Bitcoin! on: June 04, 2013, 04:13:17 AM
I'm just getting started (as of a month ago) doing odd jobs for Bitcoin and blogging about it. I agree that we need more estrogen in the Bitcoin community, and I'd love to cross-promote your blog. I just followed you on WordPress, and I'm already drooling over your fashion section. My blog is The Bitcoin Barterer.

Electricity is included in my rent for the same amount regardless of how much I use, and the laptop in question is an otherwise out-of-commission one that would be gathering dust otherwise. Still, I don't plan on mining long term. My hashrate is actually even worse than that- 3.7 Mhash/s. Tongue

Switched it to 'other' and put in the info manually as you suggested and it is working fine now, back on its original (though admittedly still poor) hashrate. As for profitability, I'm really in it for curiosity more than profit. I had read that nVIDIA cards were essentially useless, and I can't afford a better rig. I also keep an eye on my laptop temp and don't run the miner 24/7. Thank you for the warnings. I'm definitely still learning.

I'm a mining newbie, connecting to slush's pool via poclbm with GUIMiner.

I have been mining successfully for about four weeks. It is now showing as a connection problem. I have not changed anything, but for a few days before it quit working, my hashrate fell by about a third. Not sure if that's related. Anyway. Here's my error log:

5  Economy / Services / Re: Lifelike Portrait Drawings by Hand - Artist for Hire! on: May 25, 2013, 11:43:18 AM
Giving your thread a bump because I am impressed by your talent. Would you be willing to try a drawing based on a combination of illustrations, written descriptions, and digital renderings (from Sims 3) rather than from a photograph? I realize working from other sources is a whole different can of worms than using a reference photograph, but I am a writer and roleplayer and would be interested in seeing some of my characters drawn in a lifelike fashion.
6  Economy / Services / You Name It, I'll Do It on: May 18, 2013, 06:01:54 AM
I'm admittedly new to both the BitcoinTalk forums and to Bitcoin as a whole, but I started a blog as an experiment. The premise essentially is that people come up with things they want done and make me an offer in Bitcoin for how much they'll pay for me to do it. I'm hoping to get a wide variety of requests that both challenge me and entertain my readers.

My "Services" are, by design, very open-ended. I have links to portfolios on the blog for things I've done professionally, but I realize not everyone needs a writer, graphic designer, or photographer, and even those who do might not consider me a good match for their needs. There are people in all three of those categories already offering their services on this forum, so in the interest of not stepping on any toes, I'll mention a few other possibilities.

1) Like a particular regional snack food that you can't get where you live? If it's available in the US as a whole or Kentucky specifically, I'll buy it and mail it to you.

2) Want to learn how to make a specific meal? I'll make you a video tutorial.

3) Want the perks of a long-distance relationship without having to deal with an actual girlfriend? I'll send a care package with things like homemade cookies and a mix CD.

I don't do naked pictures. Trust me. I'm ugly and you don't want pictures of me naked anyway. Other than that, I'm open to whatever random tasks you want to throw my way.

You can find my blog here. Feedback and ideas are absolutely welcome.
7  Economy / Services / Re: Paying for somebody to write me a poem about war on: May 15, 2013, 01:19:37 AM
I'm a freelance writer, and I minored in poetry writing in university. I'll do it for 0.1 BTC. I'll discount it to 0.08 BTC if you request it through my blog and let me blog about having done it (though obviously not with the text of the poem, so that your teacher/professor can't Google it).

If you're interested in having me do it, please e-mail me at bitcoinbarterer@gmail.com and tell me more about your class and what your teacher/professor is looking for. Thanks!

Would you clarify for us whether you're looking for the longest DISTANCE traveled continuously by a single person or the longest TIME traveled continuously by a single person? Thank you.
9  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is Newbie Status Really That Hard? on: May 13, 2013, 05:39:13 PM
Now that I'm out of Newbie status, I'll update and say it's not really that bad as long as you're not super eager to comment on something, such as in the marketplace. Browsing a little at a time over the course of four or five days made it not seem like the requirement was difficult at all.

So hang in there, Newbies. It's not that bad.

11  Economy / Services / Re: Need Academic Help? [Homework, General Questions, Ideas] on: May 13, 2013, 05:20:26 PM
This is a great idea! I don't need help myself right now, but I'll throw out a list of my disciplines in case I can help someone.

1) English, especially writing
2) Religious Studies
3) Folklore/Folk Studies and Anthropology
4) Sociology, especially Criminology
5) Spanish through Intermediate level (High School AP Spanish / University Spanish 202)

Just don't ask me anything about math or chemistry!

It seems like a solid idea, but you'll have to put a lot of effort into making it work before the community gets too interested. I'll be following, though. Good luck.

16  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is Newbie Status Really That Hard? on: May 09, 2013, 07:18:44 AM
I'm mostly in agreement with the other people saying "I wish I'd known" so that my time spent curiously browsing the other boards would have counted in my favor. I only made an account when I wanted to reply and was surprised by the Newbie restrictions. Hopefully the services I hoped to barter haven't gone to another poster by the end of my four hours.  Cheesy

I will make sure that I warn other people about the Newbie restriction when I direct them to this board, though. I have at least one friend browsing right now, and his own Newbie status would probably be less than painful if he was building up board time while lurking.

Hi back! (Such engaging conversation, no?)
18  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How many rigs do you newbies have ? on: May 09, 2013, 07:05:54 AM
None yet. It will be two once I'm back on my home network, but I'm visiting friends right now and don't want to hijack their connections to mine.
19  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How long until I can post outside the newbie area? on: May 09, 2013, 07:03:13 AM
Just posting here to get started on my post count. I wish more of the threads in the newbie section interested me. Undecided
