There are few who do ask for id before they make the payment but some traders don't ask for nothing apart from where you want the money to go to.

And to what you said many are coming into crypto as it's getting talked alot in media but the funny thing is half of the people who came from some article or some news they are not familiar with BTC or Blockchain in general which is why half of these people end up loosing there money
I guess this happens with anything that comes into limelight
People getting scammed would the most common thing that happens to people who are not familiar with how BTC works and how Blockchain actually works.

But the best practise for p2p is
Stick to 2-3 traders who have a high rep and always trade with the same people.

I have Never  been able to receive OTP it takes forever to receive one OTP which is ridiculous
