Try running a command line miner, it might actually give you some decent feedback if/when it dies. On nvidia you probably want to use cudaminer anyway. Oh wait that is for litecoin only, but yeah you probably want to mine ltc with cudaminer and buy btc with ltc... or just buy btc directly and forget mining on nvidia.

Oh if you want to speculate the price of btc for fun with no risk, there is a game set up at https://milliondollarportfoliochallenge.com/ where you can speculate all you want with imaginary money.

These USB miners at 300khash should do some damage. Mass adaption of ASICS and usb miners will make prices bubble up

I could be wrong, but I don't think miner's will affect price. The way the difficulty is set up we'll see a new block mined every 10 minutes no matter what. If you instantly doubled the mining power the difficulty would just go up as well. New ASICs and more competitve miners only change who gets the btc, not how much btc are generated.

As far as the price actually goes, who knows, speculating is a dangerous game.
5  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How can I join a pool on: May 12, 2013, 07:45:26 AM
As for the how, most pools have a website which tells you how, but in general you just follow these steps:
  • Register on the pool's website and get your username/password
  • Get the pools mining url (e.g. imaginaryminerpool.org:4321)
  • Configure your miner with those options. E.g. in pooler's cpu miner, run it with the command line arguments below
Code:
minerd --user=username --pass=password --url=imaginaryminerpool.org:4321
