I don't want my account here any more.  Could you please delete my account?  Or send me an email with instructions to do it.  I don't see any way of doing it myself.

Thanks
2  Bitcoin / Mining / Is Crossfire required for quad video card mining? on: May 31, 2011, 04:22:08 PM
So I have parts on the way for a quad video card (5870s) mining machine and am wondering if I'll need to set them up in crossfire in order to mine with each of the GPUs.

If no, would I need to hook up a monitor to each video card to "activate" it?

If yes, is there such a thing as a quad video card crossfire bridge?  I've only ever seen the two card bridges... how do you setup quad crossfire?

Thanks,
Jeff

Thanks for all the responses.  Sounds like it won't be a problem.

Cheers,

It's a stretch to even get two into the 902 comfortably.  If you're going to be taking up 4 slots, you want the 1200.

Thanks for that.

What about the fact that the 1200 only has 7 expansion slots?  it's it going to be possible to mount the 4th card in this case?

Cheers

I'm looking at buying either the Antec Nine Hundred Two v3, or the Antec Twelve Hundred v3.

The 902 has 8 expansion slots which is what I want, but is more cramped, and the 4th video card will be slammed right up against the PSU fan.

The 1200 has only 7 expansion slots, which means it may be difficult to mount the 4th video card.  However, the cooling will be much better since: 1) There's at least one extra fan that I'm aware of; 2) there's lots of extra space in the case; 3) the 4th video card will not be right up against the PSU input fan.

The 1200 would be the clear choice for me if it had 8 expansion slots.  I'm not sure if having only 7 will be a problem.  Is it possible to simply have the lower half of the last video card hang down inside the case, unsecured, or is this not possible?  Are there any other easy solutions to this problem?  Any advice on these two cases in general?

Thanks,
Jeff
6  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: What video cards should I get for a new Windows-based mining rig? on: May 23, 2011, 02:26:57 PM
So any recomendations for which video cards to use?

Thanks for the thoughts on the Linux based mining.  However, I'm going to stick with Windows for now, since I just want to get some serious hash rate going ASAP.

Cheers,
Jeff
7  Bitcoin / Mining / What video cards should I get for a new Windows-based mining rig? on: May 22, 2011, 01:17:20 PM
I'm thinking about maybe the 5070s.  The seem to be a good price point.  I started with a 6870 in my existing PC but I'm wondering if that's not the best in terms of hash/dollar performance.  The other thing I'm considering is if it would be smart to go with 6990s, since even though it may not be the best hash/dollar, the fact that I could put 4 into a single dedicated, purpose-built mining rig might be smart, as opposed to having to build two separate rigs to get that sort of hash rate.

And another thing - any problems running 4 video cards with Windows?  I thought I'd read somewhere that it's not supported with Windows but is with Linux... seems like this wouldn't be the case, but can someone validate this statement?

All thoughts are very appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeff
8  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Bitcoin - expected hashrate-bitcoin conversion on: May 16, 2011, 09:34:09 PM
Thanks for the responses.  They were all very helpful.

I've got onto a pool - I'm using the poclbm-mod pool (bitcoinpool.com).  Question now is: the poclbm-mod application is showing that I'm doing about 225 - 230 MHash/s, but the bitcoinpool.com website is showing me as only doing 128.85 Mh/s.  Why such a large discrepency?

Also, the recommended/default parameters for poclbm-mod included the /low argument... would this account for why I'm getting 225 Mh/s now, compared to about 265 before with poclbm?

Thanks again,
Jeff
9  Bitcoin / Mining / Bitcoin - expected hashrate-bitcoin conversion on: May 15, 2011, 01:04:51 PM
I've been doing about 260 MHash/s for about 24 hours now and still have no bitcoins.  Is this normal?  I was expecting to have 1 or 2 by now.

Approximately what can I expect in terms of conversion of hashrate x time into bitcoins?

Thanks,
Jeff
10  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How do I figure out what my hashrate is? on: May 09, 2011, 02:47:32 AM
Thanks for the help.  I got it going with poclbm.

Now I have another issue, though.  I'm only getting around 7 MHash/s.  I was expecting to get more like 250-400 MHash/s with my video card, as indicated on the hardware comparison form on the wiki.  Any ideas?  And when I try to increase the "Engine" speed in the AMD SmartDoctor it errors out saying that it can't do it for some reason.  Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeff
11  Bitcoin / Mining / How do I figure out what my hashrate is? on: May 08, 2011, 01:25:44 PM
I just installed a 6870 video card and want to make sure bitcoin is using it.  How do I figure out what my hashrate is?

Thanks,
Jeff
