1  Economy / Economics / Re: Inflation and Deflation of Price and Money Supply on: January 15, 2018, 10:42:34 PM
Bitcoin is the only real money we've had since gold. Excellent thread!

I'd argue it's better than gold in many ways except fungibility.
2  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Don't we need to increase block weight/size? on: January 15, 2018, 03:41:27 PM
agreeing with everyone who says "blocks aren't full yet", or "Bitcoin needs validation performance increases first so the network can handle it"

Validation performance didn't even enter my mind, that's a huge point. You wouldn't just need more storage space, doing things like running a full node on an rpi3 would become more difficult.

Double SHA256 is not a huge bottleneck in terms of validation; if anything, it would just be the merkle tree size. Running full nodes on a Raspberry Pis is a bad idea in general. Low network performance and moderate to OK CPU performance.

Graphene is really where it's at. A block size in and of itself isn't a problem. Storage is cheap. It's bandwidth. So if we can get blocks broadcast with low overhead, high compression, and low latency, we can continue to enjoy decentralization while upping transaction processing capacity.
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: IOTA Blockchain of China?? on: January 14, 2018, 10:36:05 PM
Why every successful idea needs to be copied by Chinese?? Chinese ETH, bitcoin, now Iota. Why we need this copy of a copy and all those forks??

ITC is not a copy of IOTA.

ITC will use its own Blockchain, not the Tangle. Furthermore, ITC and IOTA have completely different aims. While IOTA seeks to facilitate microtransactions within the Internet of Things, ITC is geared towards improving security within the Internet of Things. Rather than being a copy of IOTA, or even a competitor of IOTA, ITC can work alongside IOTA.
They are really slow with their updates, if they fix that then people would reconsider. I think that the price of IOTA can get to $20.00.

Yep. If, of course, more cryptographic vulnerabilities aren't discovered with either their tangle implementation or hash function.
5  Economy / Economics / Re: Is this the end for bitcoins ? on: January 14, 2018, 09:19:44 PM
I don't think it's tulip mania of Bitcoin directly by any means. However, derivative products have been kind of ridiculous. CryptoKitties and that tanks game come to mind. I think someone even made a waifu trading game on the blockchain, lol.
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Altcoins that will survive in 2018? on: October 05, 2017, 03:00:53 AM
I think that the only ones who will survive for all the entire 2018 would be those who are those below top 70, the others are just dump and pump coins, that probably have no future.. It is how most ico's works, they start from zero, and then they go to moon, but obviously they will fall in some time, that is why we have seen a lot of altcoins who were in top 10, that are below top 100 right now.

district0x's price got absolutely murdered, yeah. Slowly recovering...

OmiseGO and Link Smiley

Seriously though I see a huge future for OmiseGO in the asian market,

We'll see. The price has been decaying a bit, but it's possible it'll recover soon. I figure it's aftershocks from the Chinese ICO ban.
8  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: What happens to BTC after they're all mined and billionaires own majority btc's? on: October 03, 2017, 01:07:24 PM
Hopefully, the coin is so valuable at that point that even though the mining rewards are low, they are still monetarily high enough to justify mining. Remember, mining is only supposed to be profitable with the cheapest electricity available, so it doesn't have to give that high of a subsidy in the big picture.
9  Economy / Economics / Re: Inflation and Deflation of Price and Money Supply on: October 03, 2017, 02:04:40 AM
You guys can't really believe it works like this, can you? Deflation over 2 years vs. inflation over 100 years is not even close to a fair comparison, to start. Secondly, deflation of this scale discourages an active economy (as we've already seen with BTC) and makes it worse, especially with a limited currency like BTC. People sit on their BTC and don't spend it because it's an investment. Third, cost of goods/services and salaries are (though sometimes poorly) adjusted for inflation. If you got paid $10/hr in 1929 you were doing really, really well. If you get paid $10 in 2017 you can barely make ends meet. Finally, you can't honestly believe that deflation will continue at the rate it has been with BTC forever.

This, exactly. If people just sit on it, you're creating a stagnating economy with that currency. I just wish we had a better solution than the current tx fees.
10  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How to make a cutting edge custom mining rig on: October 03, 2017, 01:20:09 AM
I actually have a small mining rig running on an off-grid solar system right now. Feels good not impacting my electricity bill, since it's expensive where I live ($0.23+/kwH).
