Very interesting. I wonder if someone has made anything like this before. Nice job.
thanks! I think there is another Bitcoin RPG called BitFantasy, but its in 2D old school style RPG. They allow players to buy in game items with bitcoin and also trade bitcoins in the game i think... Hey there, looks nice Yes there are some differences: Bit Fantasy is 2D and doesn't need plugins. You can buy items in game for bitcoin but only from other players, there are no microtransactions or pay to win, which is why the game is not free (it's not a gambling game either). It's like Baldurs gate crossed with minecraft, maybe We have a trial on now for people to see if they like it: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=483167

Oooh lots of things A few things off the top of my head: A lot more crafting tools, such as the woodworking bench and anvil, and these have a new interface (must revamp the cooking pot soon!). You can build shops staffed by NPCs that can sell your things on your behalf for Bitcoin or GP You can buy things from anywhere using the Magpie Network: you set what price you want to pay and whenever anyone wants to sell that item at that price you will automatically buy it and have it delivered to your house. Pets, cows at the moment - you can breed them and produce special offspring. It's through this that people have made Bitcoin recently. You can change your house appearance and rename it, build fences. New resources such as Iron ore, coal, water, hemp fibre, and lots of new items. A mini-map that fills itself in as you explore the world. Thanks for playing

By popular demand we now have a trial server for people who aren't sure if they'll like this game enough to pay for it This game is played in browser (it's just HTML and javascript, no plugins required!) It's a work in progress so the graphics aren't complete and we add features based on player feedback. Sign up here: (limited places available) https://www.bitfantasy.com/trial.html There's a video here showing some building and crafting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=344zr1hnY4YPeople have sold items they've crafted in game to other people on the other side of the world for real bitcoin, you can also sell title deeds to your properties and... well anything really!. We don't store your earned bitcoin either, it goes straight to your wallet.

@MakeBelieve not yet, we will. @beegatewood making it F2P is not planned, if it was free the only way to make it viable would be to nickel and dime (bitcoin and.. er satoshi?) players and we don't want to do that, id rather spend time making the game better instead of trying to figure out how to extract more money from players Price has been changed now to reflect bitcoin's booming value, it's now 0.04BTC https://www.bitfantasy.com/#signup

It's not just a BTC trading game, it's a real RPG and being able to trade in BTC is never in your face and not the only reason to play. People play for hours every day and never use bitcoin because I am trying to make the game fun and not a bitcoin extraction game Hopefully the fact it's just HTML5 (so you can play easily without installing anything) is also a draw. So while you are sitting watching the exchange rate in one browser you can potter around killing undead, or breeding cows, crafting, or building in another, not to mention you end up hanging out with other bitcoin folk and get to hear about their mining rigs and so on If the high exchange rate doesn't change I will have to consider discounting the sign up fee, but we have a twitter competition on for a free account now: https://twitter.com/BitFantasy/status/398057986448310272We're still planning a free/cheap trial sometime when we can iron out the details.

Had a really good response yesterday, the crowdfunding is working, we could afford to upgrade our tree graphics I think it does have a unique aspect by the way, unless there's another MMORPG that you can trade with bitcoin in, and doesn't get you to pay extra for levels/items/etc(maybe there is?). Yes other MMO games exist where you can trade items for (fiat) money. But that money sits with those companies, you have to withdraw it and pay fees. Here there is no withdrawing, you get the money from trades directly to your wallet. Oh and they aren't bitcoin, which is what we are about - no? Yes it does have programmer/placeholder graphics, no bones about it - it's being crowdfunded, it's being developed. Sometimes people crowd fund projects that they can't yet see or play, here you can play and watch it develop, and support something clearly committed to bitcoin, but you have to put up with rough edges, it's not everyone's preference and that's totally fine.

39 paying players. The only characters who didn't pay for access are ones we use to test signup etc.. with ourselves. Screenshot from today (just posting for interest, most people in that shot are offline)

Its a crowdfunded indie game, the graphics are getting better all the time but it's more about gameplay than graphics, people have enjoyed playing it for hours every day so yes while it doesn't look like a million dollar AAA studio game a bunch of people have found it fun. Half of them even upgraded to a higher crowdfunding level. Don't forget that no million dollar games studio is contrbuting to the bitcoin ecosystem either I understand people make choices based on graphics, it's human nature. I ignored minecraft for months too. Bear in mind it's a pure HTML game, no plugins - no installs. It will always be 2D probably but it will get better as we pay artists and swap out the art, (I found it hard to find suitable artists for btc - anyone interested?) On micropayments, we could have made it free and nickel and dimed everyone, but that makes for sucky games and we wanted to make it enjoyable. It's a very conscious decision. Fascinating. I love looking at this stuff. Wouldn't the obvious choice of funding be to charge a transaction fee rather than limit audience with an upfront fee? I mean - you have a kind of BitMit system built in the marketplace - and I like that BTC is just an alternate choice of currency. Wondering what made you decide to go with an upfront fee with a recurring subscription? Generally, you get some type of 7 or 14 day trial for free, at least.
Is GP tradeable for BTC? Are all items tradeable for GP/BTC, or are there "no-drops"? The turn system is concerning. Are you planning on selling turns? What made you decide to have a turn system on a subscription game?
The "Mystery" object is also a first for MMORPGs, I believe. It can literally contain money, meaning there's a chance the developers will be paying you directly for playing. It's both pay-to-play and (directly!) pay-for-play.
The upfront fee is more for the game content than the trading - you can fully play without trading or buying anything with bitcoin at all. We had a few direct player to player item trades in the closed period but the game is not designed to force you to use bitcoin at all. So you are paying for the game, the trading is "free" (at least for 1 year). GP is not currently tradeable directly for BTC but it's in the list of proposed features. Yes the Mysteries can literally contain bitcoin, you can win a whole bitcoin as well as smaller prizes (we accidentally left a bitcoin prize in during the closed beta and someone won back his entry fee within the first few days!), it's one of the other reasons there's no free trial, people might try spamming accounts Cheers! p.s hopefully have someone to do the video now..

Its a good point, I did try to hire someone (for bitcoin) to make me a video but it fell through and didn't happen - will have to try again, or do it myself

Farming, quests, crafting, fighting, exploring, building... https://www.bitfantasy.com/ It was invite only at first, we're now taking public sign ups if you use the code bitcointalk when you sign up you get an extra item. It's constantly being developed but from the closed period people seem to really like it. We didn't go down the Kickstarter type route and instead are hoping people will help fund us directly, and with bitcoin, so.. support us, support bitcoin and play a fun game too Cheers!

Where to begin... Recent favourites have been Saints Row, SimCity 4 (i.e old one) when I can.

Thanks You don't even have to keep a balance in game, Bit Fantasy passes on payments directly between players, there's no pool of bitcoin to charge or withdraw. Player 1 holds their QR app up to the screen and the payment goes to Player 2's wallet directly(*). (*) nearly directly - it's routed through blockchain's notify API so we can remove the item from escrow when payment is sent.

Thanks for your replies, sorry it took me a while to get back to this thread, being a small indie outfit i've just been concentrating on trying to finish features and sort out servers and a million other things The technology is HTML5 - it's just HTML and javascript. It's admittedly clunky now - you can see other players move around in "real time", but it's not smooth - imagine a game like Civ where you play square to square. Having said that there's very little you can't do with HTML5 right up to and including full 3D so there's lots of scope In answer to the concerns, I understand and have been aware of them - this is a RPG with bitcoin trading built in, it's not a thin shell of a game hiding a lottery. Prizes exist in the game but they are at the end of quests and are definately not games of chance. The prizes are there to entice players but really want I want people to appreciate in the game is the direct player to player trading via BTC. (I would actually also like players to be able to set BTC quests for each other, e.g you have a grudge on another character, you can hire another player for real BTC to assasinate their in game character). Here's the details on the Bitcoin aspect: Signup fee is 0.01BTC to create your character, after that you have to pay absolutely nothing and can complete the quests and play the game without bitcoin (our tester completes the quests totally without btc). The USP for this game is that you can then trade directly with other players using bitcoin like so: (Fry here is a players character they created, NPCs don't sell things for BTC, only GP) It's like an in game Bitcoin marketplace for players. As you can see in the picture, you always have the option to just pay in GP, Bitcoin isn't mandatory. We use a notification API to register the payment and transfer the item when the BTC has been confirmed, the money goes directly to the bitcoin address specified by the user on sign up, we don't take a cut. I canned the idea of being able to let people buy in game Gold Pieces for BTC as I am trying to avoid "pay to win" style games. We are effectively doing an open beta with crowdfunding so people who pay more get a little more (but not in a gameplay breaking way). Launch early next week edit to add: there's a bunch more info and screenshots over at the subreddit @ http://www.reddit.com/r/BitFantasy Cheers!

Hi everyone, I've been reading these forums quite a lot but never created an account. In the next few days i'm going to launch a multiplayer role playing game where the loot is sometimes real Bitcoins and fight/collaborate with other players on quests to find them (amongst other standard RPG fare). I don't want to be too spammy but I thought people might talk about it here and I should really join in! www.bitfantasy.com I'll announce when we are accepting signups on twitter (@bitfantasy) I'm an indie game developer who is keen on the potential of Bitcoin and this is my contribution to the ecosystem, I've actually quit my job as a professional software developer to work on my own projects so your support is greatly appreciated! Cheers!
