1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: PTS (Free and Open discussion) - Is someone GPU mining? add your comments. on: January 02, 2014, 08:13:02 PM
Its just getting smashed by a fat guy with a degree in C++ and Cryptography, armed with his single ATI HD 5970.

Did I ever mention that I think that comment is derogatory and unsuitable for civilized conversation? I meant to. If I haven't, now I do.

That comment is derogatory and unsuitable for civilized conversation. Smiley
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] MemoryCoin 2.0 (MMC) - Long Term GPU/ASIC Resistant on: December 28, 2013, 12:39:25 AM
Question:

Should the Brain Wallet address generator for PTS (at brainwallet.org) work for also creating MMC addresses?
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Updated] Guide To Pool Cloud Mining Protoshares - Also get free PTS! on: December 04, 2013, 12:04:16 PM
make: yasm: command not found

For me, simply:

Code:
apt-get install yasm

fixed that . . .

Q: I'm running ~80-105 cpm on an 8-core debian install at digitalocean . . . how does this compare to the profitability of other schemes listed in this thread?

[EDIT: ~127 cpm]

(If it's more profitable, I'll detail the configuration that achieves it.)
4  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Painless bypass of anti-virus false-positives for miners on: October 09, 2013, 07:18:33 PM
Maybe you also know how to run miners silently in the background?

That and more; or, this program can be one way to do that:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=265232

And: whoops! Sorry for the very tardy reply.
5  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Painless bypass of anti-virus false-positives for miners on: September 09, 2013, 04:07:05 AM
Whereas many miner programs have been abused by being delivered as payloads via trojan viruses etc., some anti-virus companies have (lazily!) marked them as dangerous or potentially unwanted, etc.

I've found what seem to be two effective, painless fixes for this problem, which I would rather not allow abusers to know about. At the same time, I *do* want anyone of goodwill to know about these fixes.

Whether these fixes would always work I can't guarantee--but they've worked for me, and saved me the trouble of setting anti-virus exceptions on the computers I can run miners on.

Anyone who would like to know these fixes is welcome to PM me and try to persuade me that they will use the knowledge legitimately.
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] cudaMiner - a new litecoin mining application [Windows/Linux] on: September 09, 2013, 03:58:59 AM
ESET NOD32 sees this new version as a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program) and warns against its installation.  This didn't occur with the 4-22 or 4-30 versions.

This is also the case for other antivirus programs (and for other miners); it's probably that the programs have been either compiled into some malware/viruses and/or dropped as a payload from viruses--and anti-virus companies lazily mark the payload as dangerous, instead of the program that delivers it. Angry

However, I've found what seem to be two effective, painless fixes for this problem, which I would rather not allow people who plant miners via trojan viruses to know about. Anyone who would like to know these workarounds is welcome to PM me and try to persuade me.

8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN][Multi-Coin][Stratum] multipool.in - Always Mine the most profitable coin on: August 22, 2013, 07:09:33 PM
if someone could confirm that transferring directly from www.multipool.us to Cryptsy works, I would appreciate it.

Also relevant to this (I'd commented earlier that deposit from multipool.us to Cryptsy wallets works): cryptsy now has a feature to enable automatic sells from any wallet when deposits thereto confirm.

I still hope for flound's update to auto-sell at the currently most profitable exchange, when deposits are confirmed at multipool.in wallets, but meanwhile, this feature at cryptsy will be more convenient. Also, I hope, more profitable.

10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ***Mincoin Mandatory Update*** ***Difficulty Re-Target Changed*** on: August 22, 2013, 03:29:18 AM
Thanks for your support.

Aw, shucks, you got me with irony Tongue sorry.

That is, erm . . . yes I've made some few pretty mincoins, er . . . Smiley

However, what chondrite said. And for my view, registration just to download a client = nicht. A completely public official download repository would be nice.
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ***Mincoin Mandatory Update*** ***Difficulty Re-Target Changed*** on: August 20, 2013, 04:02:06 PM
I don't know where I first found a Windows GUI client for this, but it's nagging to update the *litecoin* client, so I went looking for any updates . . . where on earth is a link to an official Windows gui wallet client?!

(Totally baffled that people are throwing megahashes at this level of development.)
12  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: run your miners invisibly with different arg when pc idle and pc used (Download) on: August 14, 2013, 12:53:29 AM
Quite to hijack the topic Wink here is my announcement of a toolset which can accomplish the same (or a similar) goal; which is, mine only when the computer is not in use:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=265232.0

Note that this toolset can enable mining whether users are logged in or not (at bootup *and* after users log on and off).

At this writing it can only alter the commands (for example to run miners with different settings during the day vs. night) by altering the command text files. It may in the future be made to automatically run configurable (for example possibly alternate) commands upon user resume from activity, and/or on a configurable schedule.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN][Multi-Coin][Stratum] multipool.in - Always Mine the most profitable coin on: July 31, 2013, 02:27:47 PM
. . .if someone could confirm that transferring directly from www.multipool.us to Cryptsy works, I would appreciate it.

I have it auto-payout to cryptsy wallet addresses. It works fine. I just watch cryptsy for when the deposits show up.

(This is why I want a bot that checks cryptsy (and other exchanges), say, every five minutes--and instantly sells anything besides bitcoin deposited there, for bitcoin, if the price as agreeable.)
14  Bitcoin / Project Development / [ANN] farmComm--spawns/terminates processes (miners etc.) on user idle/active. on: July 31, 2013, 07:18:44 AM
farmComm runs arbitrary programs (you choose) when user is idle, invisibly,* with access to graphics hardware, whether users are logged in or not! Terminates programs when user activity resumes. "Invisibly," because the program's UI does not show, but it is listed in Task Manager. Automate intensive tasks e.g. 3D renders or [ding ding!] cryptocurrency mining.

The source, compiled executables, and README with easy install instructions are available at:

https://github.com/r-alex-hall/farmComm

Not mentioned in the following README file: it has an automated installer . . . which may only work (presently) from a console session (not a remote command prompt. To Do: fix that).

Planned new features include: Tools to easily run remote commands/command prompts on farm/miner nodes e.g. to remotely control farmComm installs. Configurable scheduled commands (e.g. to allow for more aggressive mining at night, less aggressive at day). Possibly hardware load monitoring (to *not* use a remote computer if it is running other automated resource-intensive tasks when users are not active).

Feedback, comments, rebukes or whatever are welcomed. Excerpting now from the README.md:

===============================================
PROBLEM: Petahashes or more of potential computational power lie dormant in the world, even an extremely tiny fraction of which power could be put to evil and greedy purposes, in the right hands.

SOLUTION: THIS TOOLSET!

(These hands are now YOUR hands!)

farmComm: launches arbitrary (you choose), configurable processes, partly hidden,* when any user is idle for 8.5 minutes (default). Terminates those processes when user resumes activity. Installs by default as a service which accesses graphics hardware even if no user is logged in! If the user session (login) it started in becomes inactive (disconnected), it migrates to access whichever session may be active, or if no session is active, it responds to the Secure Desktop (session 0). It therefore always appropriately responds to user idle/activity.

This functionality may be particularly useful for the automation of very resource-intensive tasks, e.g. 3D renders, fractal flame renders, or cryptocurrency mining--tasks which would use up a computer's resources and make it useless for everyday user computing tasks.

At this writing, it has been tested and confirmed to behave as described for cryptocurrency mining.

Built with AutoHotkey_L, designed for Windows 7.

*What is meant by "partly hidden" is that essentially any program launched by farmComm will run and function normally (other than any functionality which requires user interaction), but no part of the user interface of the program will appear--not anywhere. However, the program will still be detectable without a lot of investigation, e.g. it will be listed in the Windows Task Manager.

15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN][Multi-Coin][Stratum] multipool.in - Always Mine the most profitable coin on: July 27, 2013, 04:11:46 PM
First to the "noob question--" yes that's normal. Your miner is reporting how many hashes it has calculated (whether they resulted in acceptable shares to submit or not), period. The pool is only aware of the hashes you submit to be accepted to the pool. The pool is reporting the rate for those hashes which it is aware of (the hashes you submitted).

EBM,

Middlecoin looks interesting, we might try it. We stopped multi because it was mining too many really obscure ones that are too volatile (so not the best price when actually sold) and a pain to sell. Also don't want to trade without Yubikey.

I tested multipool.in versus middlecoin.com for two days using two comparable hashrate cards for each. I wish I had been more scientific about it--meaning, noted the exact start time of my test, and performed the test with one each of two identical cards (instead of four comparable cards divided), so I can't conclude which was more profitable in the time period. What I can say is that they're both highly (and, it seems, comparably) profitable Smiley

Naturally, I'm curious to do that test more scientifically.

I will say that unless/until I find or make a bot that auto-withdraws and sells winnings at the best market price (I've had to miss the best price quite often, by checking the exchange I auto-payout to, and seeing the coin in question was most profitable, say, two hours ago), and unless I can throw more hashing power at the pool so that portions of coins are not straddled beneath 1 (OR if coin amounts lower than one could be paid out manually after they've sat long enough), that other switching pools might be more attractive. That is, unless more scientific tests discover this pool to be more profitable despite those drawbacks Smiley

flound1129, I saw what I thought was a good idea in the middlecoin.com developer's plans (as posted at their thread about that pool): seamlessly switch the coin being mined when a block is found. I don't know whether you'd entertained that idea or plan to do that, but to me it seems like a good idea (you can look at the thread about that coin for other details of their plans).

Also, to ask an entirely barbaric question, what are some of the other auto-switching pools (and in particular, which ones are gaining popularity)?

Not much fun when the pool doesn't hit a block for ages... Had to quit.

I'd think the odds of other pools hitting a block is lower, unless they've got bonkers hashrates (even if on less profitable cryptocurrencies).

I tried mining middlecoin.com, and discovered they seem to be mining a cryptocurrency under attack right now (it reported a block generation every few seconds, it was ridiculous) . . . otherwise, their feature of auto-selling at exchanges, then paying out in bitcoin, is an attractive option.

I will however say that I have a lot of straddled payouts of about .2 to .7 coin (of various currencies), and if those float there for long enough, I hope they are paid out just because they've been sitting there too long.
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] MEMEcoin- Exchange, Updated Info and Store Items on: July 25, 2013, 10:53:24 AM
I may give that p2pool a try (and carefully follow their setup instructions to do so), thx. Hope it's a better experience than whatever was going on with solo mining.

(And I'm confused by other posts here which seem to report only a good experience solo mining = few rejects. What different variables were in play that gave them those good results? Or am I misreading or misremembering? . . . )

What is your config for your miner.

Sorry I missed this query, and thanks, but I'm not mining this at the moment, and if/when I do again (we'll see), I'll post my config. I see you listed a lot of addnode entries here recently; I'll try those if it comes to it . . .
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: TERRACOIN ATTACK OVER 1.2TH ATTACK CONFIRMED on: July 25, 2013, 10:44:30 AM
If this is a design problem (vulnerability) with the source, and if the developers have forsaken it, and the code is still publicly available, it behooves anyone with vested interest in the coin and sufficient programming skills (mine are insufficient) to address this. Even if that means pulling the newest source from an unmaintained repository (is it maintained?), making the fix, and uploading the source to some other new, maintained repository.
