Awesome! Finally the blocks are coming...

In other news -- Can someone tell me how this is possible?
  • 491,802 is found by Shitfury   at 2017-10-25 23:52:04
  • 491,803 is found by BTC.FLOP at 2017-10-25 23:52:05

And a couple blocks before that 2 separate blocks were "found" by FUPool ~27 seconds apart...  It really feels like btc network manipulation or maybe their PH/s or EH/s are too high for the current difficulty to be effective against them?

Would appreciate anyone's thoughts on the matter...
Our record I think is 3 seconds between 2 blocks we found.

Edit: nope looks like it's 8 seconds.
Block 463196 and Block 463197 were 8 seconds apart.

That is just wild...  Now if we found THREE BLOCKS 8 seconds apart... I'd have to start worshipping your anime goddesses at that point lol

I taught Stat at Cal Poly during my university days, and indeed you get LOTS of false conclusions on these boards based on emotion instead of mathematical rigor.  Funny at first, then tiring, then irritating - especially when coming from longtime members who should know better...  Roll Eyes
I'd hate to know how high kanosan's aggrivation level gets sometimes with all the noob du jours chiming in during a run of bad luck!   Cheesy

give us a break
we like to learn also

I second @padrinogtr's sentiment -- with all due respect @VRobb, everyone used to be a noob at some point (including you and Kano), until they weren't.  I won't speculate on how high Kano's aggravation level gets with noobs 'chiming' in the forum, but I will say that without noobs mining in the pool, this pool wouldn't grow and would most likely be forgotten by the ever increasing level of difficulty as the network grows, causing the runs of bad luck to become longer and more frequent.

You don't need statistics to understand that

I am a noob to this pool, having joined about a month ago, just in time to have the worst luck I have ever seen in my not so noobish 3.5 years of mining.  Shocked

I am a noob to this pool as well, a noob to hands on mining since 2 weeks ago, my BCT forum account says I'm a "newbie" but but I've been messing with bitcoin since 2012 (or earlier) so not a noob to btc... So really these forum labels don't say much in the way of real experience lol  Roll Eyes

Scammers are ALL OVER THE PLACE here.  Most of us, myself included, have been scammed somewhere along the way.  Even accounts that look "old" can be suspicious as they can be sold for a price, or possibly even compromised.

We have to be suspicious. Sad

- A block withholding attack hurts the miner in question.  The only reason someone would do that is to tarnish the pool.  Only someone with deep pockets would (and could) do that.  That would point to other pools who are making ridiculous amounts in pool and transaction fees.

I was looking at all the top pools, >50% of the btc network is either owned/invested in by Bitmain or physically located in China  (and/or both): I won't name them but just look at the top 5-6.

Theoretically speaking, couldn't they either benefit from broadcasting to each other what the next blocks are (either on purpose or just the sheer fact of being *physically located* in China) before those communications are received and processed by the other members of the network?
I am constantly seeing triples or quadruples of blocks found by the same pool or the same related 2-3 pools that it just seems to me this could be happening.

I don't know whether it's possible but with how money hungry Bitmain is I have no doubt that they'd do it in a heartbeat if they figured out *how*

Okay then, my bad.  Smiley

In other news..

I wondered earlier last week when I started really engaging in this forum why all of the lasting members always seemed so jaded or sarcastic when posting replies to ppl. Now I know: everyone here is constantly bombarded with newbie accounts that either could be legit or could be fake... Most often turning out to be the latter.

Fellow miners, first I wanted to thank kano and rest of you for running this pool. I have mined since Feb 17 with one S7 just for fun and curiosity. I've learned a lot just by doing so and listening to your discussions in this forum. It made me a believer in bitcoin. The way you run the pool is excellent and you represent the mining community in the best possible way. PPLNS is the way to go and the work you put into stats and transparency creates  a lot of trust.

Now that I posted for the first time, I probably will leave the mining endeavor. I would love to stay but my power situation is the worst (means: most expensive in US) and the few amps I have are needed to charge my electric car. If you any tips how I should sell my S7, appreciate your reply or PM.

mine on  Smiley

I doubt you actually have been mining in the pool with an S7 since Feb, I think you saw that @padrinogtr's post about:

sell me a couple of S7 will you?

And you thought it could be a quick scam.  Then again this could be me just being paranoid, however, your details don't quite add up, and seems like the whole reason you posted this long story full of irrelevant details just to try and "sell" an S7 on the forum because you lurked and saw an opportunity.  Also the fact that you just registered yesterday to make one post that you're leaving the pool?  Doesn't pass the smell test... sorry you obviously have ulterior motives... Besides, nobody who's a newbie with 0 trust should be trusted to "sell" or "buy" anything from anyone on this site without a trusted forum member or mod to act as escrow... too many scams like the one we just saw about someone PM'ing Kano pool members.

Bitcoin mining with cloud hashing

Cloud mining is good because you do not purchase equipment, and invest in the rental or purchase of facilities. You need to act according to the following scheme:

Select the sites of cloud mining.
Register, Deposit bitcoin into the account.
Purchase as much capacity as enough money.
You mined Bitcoin with the rest of the miners. Profit for the cracked hash will be split between all users, but taking into account your investment amount. So you will earn less than a classic hashing, but the chances to profit hundreds of times higher than it is in those who work in the team. Bitcoin mining can be performed at the following sites:

TopMine. The service gives you possibility of earning with a minimum investment of just 0.001 Bitcoin. You can also use the gift 5ТераХэш.
HashCoin is another relatively inexpensive project. You can invest only 0.003 Bitcoin. As a present users get 5ГигаХэш.
Ahash for those who have the ability to invest more than $ 6, the minimum amount of investment is 0.01 Bitcoin.

If you are ready to invest we offer the best sites for mining Bitcoin with cloud mining free of charge:

BitcoinCloudOnlin give 50 Gigaherz.
BilyOceans provides 1000 Kiloherz.
It should again be noted TopMine that pleases you record free 5 Terhas.

Those "cloud mining" sites you just referred to (after doing a google search on them) seem to be more like HYIP or ponzi type sites.  The only real cloud mining sites where you can either rent hash power and direct it to a particular mining pool are genesis mining, hashing24 and nicehash.

When something says you are "cloud mining" most of the time they are taking bitcoin from new users or referrals and giving it to the older members as a ROI for them to keep them happy and referring new people.

Admittedly I didn't do much research on those three sites you named, so I'm not going to call them "scams" per se (because there is probably a way you can get money out of them) but they would become scams once they reach a certain level where the operators either have collected enough btc that they want to stop or they can no longer pay for interest on the current deposits from new members joining.
There is no such thing as free hashing power, that is just a gimmick.

XMR or Monero is an altcoin and this question would be better asked in the Altcoins section, not the Bitcoin mining section.  Mods will move your thread if you start a discussiin on that.  I know nothing about XMR so please start a new thread in an appropriate section of the Forum.

Hi all.
I am new to mine btc.
I have some devices:
1/ Chip Intel XEON® E5-2673 v4 (Broadwell), 2.3 GHz, 64 cores 432.00 Gbs Ram ( 1 devices )
2/ 2.4 GHz Intel Xeon® E5-2673 v3 (Haswell) 3.1 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0, 20 cores, 140 Gbs ram ( x 5 devices )
3/ 2x Intel®Xeon® E5-2440, 2 x 6 Cores (HT) x 2,4 GHz, (2,9 GHz Turbo Boost), 48 Gbs ram ( 1 devices )
4/ AMD Opteron™ 4274 HE, 8 Cores x 2.6 GHz (3.5 GHz Turbo Core), 16 Gbs ram ( 1 devices )

Can let me know what software and coin best for mine ?
So estimate how much i can earn per day ?

Very thanks.

If all of those are CPU's in your device list, my advice is "don't try to mine bitcoin with CPUs (or GPUs for that matter)".  You might make a few cents a day using nicehash.com but the electricity cost of doing that per day will far outweigh any gains.

If you want to get into mining, buy an ASIC device like the Avalon 741 from Minerwarez.com -- which you can earn $12/day or so in a mining pool or nicehash on that.
12  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: avalon miner 741 low mining speed on: October 23, 2017, 01:17:14 AM
what coin is more profitable to mine now7

Bitcoin?  I'm not sure how you mean "more profitable" ... it depends on what kind of coins you are able to mine, ie. if you have any ASIC mining machines, how many of them you have and what algorithm they were designed to perform (SHA256 or scrypt or X11 etc etc).  An Antminer S9 can't mine ether or Litecoin and an Antminer L3+ can't mine Bitcoin.
Lastly you need to know the sum/total GH/s or TH/s for each algorithm you have available.

If you're talking about GPU mining I'd say unless you have many many high end GPU's in a specialized mining rig, probably no coins are profitable to mine because of the cost of electricity involved, it wouldn't be that efficient or cost effective.

You really need to give more details when asking an open ended question like that, because the real answer to your vague question (without knowing any details) is "it depends"

Plus your question has nothing to do with the OP's question and reason for starting this thread, so its off topic.

Anyone know of an existing alert service or web site/app that I could somehow set up to notify me of when Kano pool hits a block?  Like an email would be cool but a text service would be best Smiley
Seeing as how we may be here for a bit longer, I just wanted to see if anyone reading this thread/mining in this pool knows of a service to alert me each time Kano pool relays a block...

If nothing like that exists I suppose I could investigate a way to do this thru IFTTT or something similar.

you can install the CKPool app on your phone. it send an instant notification every time a block is solved by the Kano pool.

Thanks for this @luxMiner and thanks @beltsniffer too for your reply.  I did read the first post but somehow I missed the part about iOS Apps until your replies.  I got the app setup and am happy with the push notifications and the health monitors for my worker on Kano pool.

Anyway, I am glad I stuck with Kano pool during this long ass block.  This pool will end up paying much better than Slushpool...  It seemed odd to me that 2 blocks came in quick succession after the pool server was restarted?  Probably just a coincidence lol or just Lady Luck masquerading as something related to play tricks on the mind... :-/
14  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Avalon Advanced Interface different between controllers on: October 22, 2017, 07:52:02 PM
Has anyone else had this? How did you get it to show the OpenWRT interface instead?

Hi I have not had this (yet) but I just looked and wanted to see, if you go to that incorrect page and replace the "admin" with "avalon/page/index" does that work and take you back to the correct view?  If it does work, I don't think this would be a long term fix.  This is intriguing to me... I will dig into it more and try to figure out why this happens (so I can also know what to do when/if I see this issue)  Shocked
15  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: avalon miner 741 low mining speed on: October 22, 2017, 07:31:40 PM
Hi Joel coin,
thanks for elaborating on your experience. Your point about two psu's is well taken, however, this information was taken from Avalon site itself.  Check this link:

https://canaan.io/question/avalonminer-741-power-supply/

Oh wow, I am surprised I did not run across that link.  I guess it should work with two PSU's..

I am in Europe and using 240V input, and I always thought that offsetting the voltage by -2 will probably have a different effect compared to 110V input.

Have you tried any voltage offsets to get a better result from the miner?  I see there is also a +1 voltage offset which I am assuming would try to draw more power from the PSUs and in effect should get a higher TH/s.  I'm speculating because I cannot test it with my setup either.

what you are saying about the two psu's could be valid, but I don't have a big psu to validate and don't want to spend more money on this miner as I am doing it in order to learn and explore new opportunities.

I will write to Avalon tech support and I hope they can confirm, otherwise they should correct their website.

I don't know enough about PSUs or the internals to state what exactly could happen either negative or positive when using two with this miner, so if its working now probably ok to stick with what you have.  It also wouldn't hurt to confirm IF you can get Avalon support to reply back...
16  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: avalon miner 741 low mining speed on: October 22, 2017, 03:33:44 PM
thank you all for the support. After replacing the power supply it started to work in the range of 5.8THs. I used two 850W Corsair power supplies as these were available and the change was noticed immediately after. The question remains open whether I should aim for a higher figure with the Avalon 741 miner?

hey bohoma, I just recently had an issue with my recently purchased Avalon Miner 741 as well... my issue was the 1 power supply I was using (HP 1200w hot plug psu + breakout board) was getting a low voltage from my American 110v power outlet, so it only produced enough wattage to power my Avalon for 10min at a time before it automatically shut down.
I did figure out how to make it work with that PSU, by changing in the Avalon Advanced settings view:

Status Tab > CGMiner Configuration > Voltage Offset setting that to -2
(I don't know if this is the proper way of setting things but it seems to work well)

Now my Avalon 741 works on the 1200w psu with the 110 v outlet, although the compromise is my TH is pretty pinned at 7.2-7.4 TH/s rather than being able to get 8 TH/s like it could with a proper PSU without the voltage offset.  I am doing this and waiting until I can get the 1600w Sorcerer power supply (that is specifically made for the Avalon 741 miner) when it comes available again so I get the full range of TH.

One question I have: why are you using two separate power supplies?  I have also made a similar search when researching my own PSU issues, and nowhere did I find it was proper to use two separate PSUs on an Avalon 741 (I only saw posts about people using the Bitmain Antminer with two separate PSUs, one for each board/side).  The problem I see is that each PSU is separately trying to adjust the output to the machine (without knowledge of the other PSU).  To me that seems like you might overwork both PSUs more than they should be, IMHO.

There may be no problem doing this with Avalons, but I have not seen it documented anywhere like i have seen with the Antminer.

Anyway, my recommendation is if you can do it get only one PSU and preferably something with a higher wattage ceiling so your avalon can get the full power (like the Sorcerer 1600w that Canaan makes).

What's going on with this pool, I joined a couple of days ago from all of the good word from here and it hasn't found a block yet! 76 hours since the last block and counting.  If there isn't a block found by tomorrow morning I'm going to have to switch back to Slushpool.

There is nothing wrong with the pool... its called "luck"

Oh and I also just joined this pool when we were at 26 hours since the last block, but if you look at the past they hit like 5 blocks Oct 15th, 3 blocks on Oct 16th and 2 blocks on Oct 17th.  Like was said above, 'past performance does not indicate future performance'... If you've been mining during this no-block period, you just need to be patient and stick with it until we hit.

Also, as was said previously pools of this size have quite a bit of variance -- if you're looking for a daily adrenaline rush of the pool hitting a block (regardless of if the payout is smaller/bigger) then probably Slush pool would be better for that.  I'm still new to mining and pools, so someone else please correct me if I'm wrong.  I'm still learning.  Cool

Is anyone an Avalon 6 guru? Or point me in the right direction. I purchased a set from Miner WareZ and cannot get anything to show up in the Avalon2 Dev area of the console. I have tried 3 different AUC2 devices and 2 separate controllers. Thx.

Hi lakerunner22 -- I'm no guru but I too recently purchased rom MinerWarez (however mine was a new Avalon 741 miner) and after 3-4 days of fiddling with different things finally got everything running smoothly.  When you say you purchased a "a set" of "Avalon 6['s]" I presume you are talking about the used Avalons they have on the used section of their web site?
The problems I faced were probably different than yours (mine were psu related).

Did you have to re-apply firmware to the controller(s)?  Miner warez hasn't been great at all about getting back to replies -- each time I have gotten a reply from them I've had to submit a new message from their web site....

That is encouraging to hear that this isn't too bad... I mentioned above that I just started mining on this pool for the first time (~30 hours ago in the middle of this no-blocks-period), so I guess I don't have a good frame of reference yet on what kind of luck is in the pool and where it is streaking lol  Grin

I wish I would have started mining on Kano pool several days ago so I could've shared the multi-block days experience.
I will be patient and look forward to when we solve the next one.

Look at this way: every hour your 5N gets closer to being filled! Smiley

Seriously, I suggest checking out the graphs on the kano.is website.  It shows all the info about prior blocks, including luck for each one.  It's very informative.

M

Thanks, I have poured over (and tried to understand) just about every graph on the site -- they are a great resource.  I'm not worried in the least bit, just the anticipation is killing me hahaha.  Plus I am still reading up on the various mining pool/math terminology and trying to figure out what everything means.

What does it all mean, Bazzle?
