I know the title might be a little open-ended, but I purposefully phrased it that way.
To short-circuit well-meaning but misguided responses, I'm specifically interested in selling crypto-currency directly for some paypal. I know, I know; I don't need OTHER mis-guided lectures on the risk involved. I know what I'm getting into.
What I'm interested in is this; are there any US laws preventing me from selling my bitcoins for paypal cash? How about state laws?
I'm not a miner, btw - I'm just interested in directly selling some of my btc for cash.

I have a sneaking suspicion that this topic will cause some flaming, but I'm just curious what people think. If, and that's a big if, the code is released and 1) it is opensource, and 2) it is truly distributed, then I'm wondering what the potential is here. Probably pretty major.
Although I will say this much - good luck trying to explain the "trust" concepts to the ordinary user. Its difficult enough trying to explain Bitcoin to people.

Thank you! I was looking in wiki, I guess not hard enough.

I love reading the math done back in 2011: 371,000 @ 2.70 is over 1 million now!!
If that same hoard was available today at around 100, that's 37 million or more, easy. Crazy how the value skyrocketed like that. The price seems to have a floor of about $100 I've noticed.
I think the hashrates have started to increase a little over demand, but not by much. I think they will have to plateau out at some point, and when that happens, the $100 is gonna jump to $1000 in record time.

The only alt-coin I have faith in is Litecoin.
I have about 500 LTC stashed away in the hope that they someday become the silver to bitcoin's gold.
Saw a little spike in value with yet another rumor about LTC being available on MtGox, but then everyone lost patience and it's back down to around 2.5 USD again.
Long way to go before I make up my losses, since I bought in at 3.8!
Why the predeliction to mt gox for trading? Other exchanges are way more flexible and will allow trading other alt-coins. I like Virucurex the best. coin "A" to coin "B" to coin "C" to "USD" if I want. https://vircurex.com/

Best answer is to build our own. It's disappointing a bit, because very few of us have the time to learn how to manufacture our own rigs. Thanks for the feedback. ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif)

I'm assuming it can - most of the posted pics of the home mining rigs I've seen contain like 8 or so servers in a garage.

Ok I'll ask - what is zenithcoin?

I'm relatively new to mining, as I've only been mining using a pool (Coin-o-tron) for a month and a half now, and I just did it as a lark to see if my super low hash-rate computer would do anything. It hasn't. The interface displays my stats in Mh, which I'm assuming is not a good sign, especially since its in the single-digits. ![Sad](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/sad.gif) I'm thinking that the only way to mine now effectively, would be to purchase space (or re-purpose personal space in your apartment or home) to store 10 industrial-strength servers side-by-side to participate in a mining pool. Is everybody mining in a pool? If so, what are the most reputable ones? If not, how does one set up a mining operation on a single stand-alone PC. Another random question - does the speed of the internet connection matter? I wouldn't think so, but I'm not 100% on this. Can anybody comment?

what coin currently has the lowest difficulty? (and is still a legit alt-coin)
|
|
|
Your missing so many alt coins.
No doubt. Some of these coins mentioned are "dying" coins that are not supported by active mining any longer, or are not traded on the exchanges yet (Pheonix coin). Feel free to post a more comprehensive poll if you really think there is a chance that those coins would skew the results ![Undecided](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/undecided.gif) Poll results are now showing Litecoin by a landslide. The others are not really distinguishable in results: Ripple (no 2 by a couple votes). Which coin would I like to succeed? PPCoin. I know there are a lot of LiteCoin fans, but I love PPCoin for its novel approaches in several respects - mining, max number of coins, and built-in inflation. I think it truly has the capability to proceed as a legitimate (and STABLE) currency. Which coin do I think will succeed? Ripple. Big money will win the day, but not if these guys can't make it truly distributed. They've got to pay attention to the criticisms placed on their current architecture and create something smooth and workable. If they can do that, it will succeed definitely. Keep voting, unwashed masses!
