damnit knc, why did you have to remove ports 5 & 6 from the Nov Jups.  Sad

Some of the Oct Jupiters were shipped with only 4 ports as well. Not really fair for those that planned to upgrade them.

$2 in parts, a little soldering skills....

No soldering skills here, but can you link me to the parts?
+1 on that request.

I solder.  It is not a simple as it sounds.  The odds are higher that you'll make your controller board non-functional than succeed in adding sockets - unless you are an experienced technician with a lot of soldering time.  Get an old motherboard, remove a connector with .1" spacing between the pins even if it has many more pins than the socket  you wish to add to the controller board.  Try putting  one of those sockets into the motherboard.  You'll see it's more difficult than you expect.  Anyone who would tell a novice to try such a thing to a controller board is looking to reduce the net hashrate by killing your machine.

Saying "I solder" is like saying "I Drive"  you can be good at it or bad.

With a $10 desoldering pump and a decent iron this is (on a scale from 1 to 10, 10 being surface mount technology)  a 3 at the worst.
Its 10 huge holes that need to be cleared and a socket installed.

If the thread weren't 1430 pages, I'd find the post with photos of a user who 'successfully' accomplished the feat.

I remember that photo, it was a scary job done by someone who did NOT know how to solder.
He didnt clear the holes first

I assume you're referring to this --> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=170332.msg3665932#msg3665932

From the very beginning I wished they used FedEx. There are much less mistakes with FedEx and if you pay $300 for shipping on anything with FedEx they'll buy lunch for you that day. I want my god damn shipping charges refunded back to me. Pathetic.

Really?? Do you know how close KnC were to being over a week late in being able to create any machines?

FedEx delivered the majority and all of the first batch of Beaglebones to the wrong country and then spent three days lying about the whereabouts in the final week of September. Marcus refuses to use Fedex ever again, for anything ever again. He hates them with a passion for this.

It was only because Beaglebone themselves worked through the day and night for three days solid and paid DHL to deliver expedited that there was any. Even though FedEx were well aware of the problem and Beaglebone found out and restarted manufacture, DHL still beat them.

The Beaglebones arrived Saturday, the chips Sunday, that's how close to line this project was!!

My UPS tracking shows my boards left Sweden, arrived in Germany and there were sent back to Sweden. As others are in the same position we'd appreciate it if you could you provide a clear indication if this is dodgy UPS tracking or if there is another issue?

cheers

Though on a side note my hardware error rate is slowly creeping back up to 6.8 already.  Going to try and downgrade to 9.6.1 my self and see if its any better.
Also bear in mind that if the hashrate looks higher artificially on the kncminer version, then the hardware error % rate will also look artificially lower.
Thanks...  So i take it i have to keep putty running to keep this version of cgminer? i notice when i close putty my miner stops and i got to reboot it to get it back online again.  Or is there a way to run this so i don't have to have my laptop on?  Also is there a way so it starts with this version after a restart?   thanks

If you start cgminer with this instead:
Code:
screen -dm ./cgminer cgminer.conf

it will start in the background in a "screen session" so it will keep running.

Then you can "attach" to the screen with
Code:
screen -d -r
to see what's happening

Even if you close your ssh session or putty it will keep on running.

Fixing typo in the example above,  -c
Code:
screen -dm ./cgminer -c /config/cgminer.conf

My Saturn order, 31xx arrived today. As per normal, one cooler fan was rattling around the case.

Took two days to go from Sweden -> Australia then near three days just sitting around in DHL processing/customs.

OK, just been thinking about this problem for a bit and my best idea so far is to use a "double-decker" design. 2 hashing units, side-by-side, with the other two sitting on top. Allows for a cube type case, allows 4 intake fans (or perhaps just one big box-fan) and a very simple, straight-through airflow. Might not fit in a standard rack but it's incredibly more efficient and clean design.

Yeah, I'm thinking along these lines too. Just buy some off-the-shelf (boom boom!) shelves, power supply in the middle shelf, one unit on each of the other shelves with inlet fan fixed to the front. Cool as a breeze!

Could easily mod something like this to the right size for unit + heatsink.

I think I miss all the DIY gpu rigs  Grin #modyourjupiter

Plenty of space in this:

Hmm, you mentioned this before. Have you thought it out?
- Isn't the airflow going to be all over the place in such a big case?
- Are you going to cut and drill the hell out of it to install inlet/outlet fans? It's gonna look a bit funny.
- Does it still work as an arcade machine? If it does, probably won't for much longer when it starts to fill with hot air.
- It's quite a big thing to have sitting around in a house, especially if it doesn't work. I'd want to keep the whole thing as compact as possible.

But on the upside, no one is going to steal something that big and awkward. I hope you change the name on it to "Bitcoin Invaders"  Cheesy

No mate, I've owned real ones in the past. This is precisely what they were back in the day - housings for huge cutting edge PCB boards (cutting edge in the 80's Wink - those things got hot, had to run 24/7 and had plenty of fans), they were pretty much server cases with large wells-gardner monitors and happ 8-way joysticks. Just these days you can have screens with less depth, larger speakers, and all the games ever created on a thumb drive powered by a tiny light weight processor. Air flow can be altered by adding shelving manipulating the circulation and extraction. You can separate the miners from the rest of the cab. After the miners become redundant, either replace them, keep the cab, or sell the unit on eBay. The only issue is those with unappreciative wives may have to think it through a little longer, these are a little less subtle than hiding the units in the discreet shelving solution posted before...Grin

I'm mounting my KNC gear in my MAME / pinball cabs.

(Not really, they're hosted, but would make a cool project)

Today, we have a few announcements to make;

Firstly, our orders for September delivery are now closed. If any refunds occur, any devices that become available will be added as, and when, on the KnCMiner site. So for those keen to secure a device for the preliminary deliveries please keep a look out. They will be sold on a first come first served basis and be added to the end of the September/October queue.

In addition there are a number of individuals that think they can pay their way into preferential order queue positions for September delivery. We absolutely do not sell out the back door. We want to stress;

Our order queue is sacred.

We will not make an exception to anybody. First paid, first served (aside the very beginning 500 customers who were positioned in order of interest). Again please no more emails, or calls asking us to break this rule, it’s not happening.

Finally, our forum is now live, with another competition!

Please find it at the following link;

You can register and secure your usernames immediately, again, first come, first served, and remember; please be kind to one another!

Thanks,

Forum is down for me

There is no failure to communicate here.  There are no semantics.  The definition of "screen" in this context is absolutely clear, as there is no other definition of screen that would apply in context.  You asked for exactly what I gave you, here let me post it again:

Josh, would you be so kind as to state which, what and when the screen was passed by the FCC? Us monumental assholes ain't got a clue as to how the FCC site works and desperately need your expertise in helping us find the info.

Your failure to understand what you are asking for is not a failure to communicate.  It's your failure to understand the situation, which has been what you've been doing for the past 3 months.  It is not a failure on my part.  Pay up and shut up, or are you going to weasel out of this commitment, too?

Also, if you didn’t notice, the LCD/Phone thingy in the front has been replaced by … a piece of cardboard spray painted black. Wonderful.

You don't need an FCC cert for a piece of cardboard.
