1  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: 7nm Avalon ASIC (A3207) • AvalonMiner A9 • 0.06-0.07 J/GH on: September 14, 2018, 06:05:36 PM
1) since miner is based on cgminer I should be able to monitor it with the regular cgminer api commands? Is this correct? e.g. stats command

Yes.

2) the controller controls several miners? therefore, i cannot send ssh commands? so my only option to restart miner is through the api?

Yes, one Controller can control up to 20 miners — i.e., up to five miners on each AUC3, with up to four AUC3s per Controller.

The Controller uses OpenWrt as its operating system, which itself uses Dropbear as its built-in SSH server. Simply configure Dropbear according to your needs (it's enabled by default) through the Controller's web interface and you'll be able to connect to the Controller via SSH.

Thanks!
Canaan is something new to me so I didn't know exactly how the controllers worked.

Canaan has added the avalon9 branch to their cgminer repository on GitHub.

Questions for the group:

1) since miner is based on cgminer I should be able to monitor it with the regular cgminer api commands? Is this correct? e.g. stats command

2) the controller controls several miners? therefore, i cannot send ssh commands? so my only option to restart miner is through the api?

Thanks

Are your scripts safe from disastrous flaws outlined in this article (about mining rigs anyone can find on Shodan)?

https://medium.com/@s3yfullah/hacking-cryptocurrency-miners-with-osint-techniques-677bbb3e0157

Thank you for the link to the security article.

From the article: "The critical point is that miners need username and password to log in."

I recommend the following:
   - Do not expose your antminer to the internet. Always place it behind a firewall. In this way your miner will not be discovered by Shodan.
   - Always change the default user name and password for your miner (remember to change both web access and ssh access)
   - Monitor your mining payout address so if someone changes your pool and worker address you will notice.

Having said that, the scripts in this thread have been replaced by Full Cycle Mining (I am the author of both). I do not yet recommend any of the programming be exposed to the internet because someone could easily switch pools or reset all your miners. The best rule for security right now is to always access miners using vpn.
4  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: May 15, 2018, 04:33:32 PM
Sorry if I missed it but I don't see any discussion...

Bitmain new slide verification when placing an order does not work for me. Tried 2 different browsers.

Net Err. Please refresh, or feedback (00)

Anyone has done it successfully or has a work around?

Edit:
It worked after I cleared cache and cookies.

cgminer api will work with halong?
all commands implemented?
6  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Automate Your miners setup for ur S9 farm | Beta on: March 09, 2018, 03:51:24 AM
I want to do the same but with Python... Possible?

I am putting everything together to be released as open source.

Here it is in python. miner and login are my classes. You can use tuples or just hard code the ip, user, pwd for testing.

The basic idea is to connect to miner using ssh, run the commands and reboot the miner. Then you can hit the api and add and switch pools.

forum wont let me post.

Now let's see what Bitmain will come up with.

Speculating, but my crystal balls are hazy. Gotta find a fix for that.

1. Bitmain price drop. This seems to already be happening with flood of coupons
2. New BM machine with updated chips from samsung. sans asicboost? blows halong out of the water even without asicboost
3. New machine s9++ with covert asicboost for mining BTC at chinese pools or mine BCH, does not encroach upon overt BDPL patent?
4. flip a bit on all existing s9 in the field that suddenly enables asicboost that was there all along? no new machine required

My guess is Wu's lawyers are reviewing patent and options. It seems like a legal question as much as a tech question.

Seems certain that covert asicboost will have to come out to the open now.

Wu's hand is forced. And that might not be a bad thing.
8  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: DragonMint 16TH/S halongmining.com on: March 07, 2018, 11:52:21 PM

Also pools that support ASIC boost are essentially Bitcoin Cash pools right? From what I understand ASIC boost does not work on Bitcoin Core Seq Witness...

I am reading it the other way around. Correct me if I am wrong.

Overt asicboost needs pool support and those are ONLY BTC pools currently.

There would be NO ADVANTAGE to using these machines on a BCH pool. Effectively these machines will be used to mine BTC exclusively. As the designers of these halong machines intended.

For 90% of miners on this board that is not a problem. For other people it could be.

Its part of the deceptive business practices that we have seen.
The initial sales pitch should have come with a disclaimer:
"Works better at some pools than others."
"16TH but your mileage may vary"
9  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: DragonMint 16TH/S halongmining.com on: March 07, 2018, 11:38:45 PM
So is it 16 TH/S only on an ASICBOOST pool? How does that number adjust for a non-ASICBOOST pool?
Yes, only with asicboost. The driver will not try to mine on pools that don't support it. It can work in a crippled manner with non-asicboost pools, but only produces 1/4 the hashrate.

The phrase "one trick pony" comes to mind.
But it is a good trick.

10  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [2+ EH] Slush Pool (slushpool.com); World's First Mining Pool on: February 17, 2018, 07:03:50 PM

And again the road to the 8 hours ( or more )  without finding a block. Sad

I wonder if shuting down the miners after the average number of  daily block have been found is not a better deal...

I just mine elsewhere once luck hits more than 150% - and come back when luck starts to trend to 80

Yes I've already thought about switch pool when bad luck, have you noticed a real gain doing that ?
Ps: as soon as I spoke about slushpool, they found a block ! But still under 75% luck right now...

Yes. And No.

I have a site that tracks pool "Performance", not the same as luck but similar.
I switch hash to pools that are under performing and I expect them to "catch up".
Think "buy low, sell high" as if you are trading a stock.
I don't have any hard evidence to prove that the system works yet but I plan to audit the performance results and tweak the strategy.
For example, I switched out of slush yesterday and went into VIA. Now (or soon) will be the time to switch back into slush as luck returns.
My system helps me make decisions based on numbers and not emotion.

Here is the caveat: By the time you feel like you should switch away from a pool because it has bad luck it is already too late. When you're already experiencing a period of bad luck that is the time you should be thinking about switching more hash into the pool that is having the bad luck.

However, remember that pools like slush use score system that discourages frequent pool hopping.

An equally valid strategy is just stick with pool like slush that shares fee reward with miners and over a long period the luck will average out.

Just to make this post even longer and give you something else to think about:
The difficulty adjustment is coming up in about 2 days and often fewer blocks are found right after DA, based on my observations. That's when I switch in to pool that has PPS for a couple days so at least I'm getting regular payouts during the adjustment.

Pool switching can be stupid if you do it based on emotion but if you have some strategy behind it then it can be smart.
Its your hash. Do with it as you please.
11  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: February 15, 2018, 05:37:35 PM

Actually, I do hope Bitmain release that ETH ASIC, as it would be a total game changer.
It is totally not normal to pump for years the GPU production business, the stocks of ATI and NVIDIA skyrocket; on the other hand gaming business is declining as there are literally no video cards to be bought to play the latest top notch games.
Today I also read this article on BBC News (seems legit) which is even more sad if it is true - lack of GPU hinders space research.
https://twitter.com/coindesk/status/964039175686311938

So - "Go Bitmain"...

Me too. I want to play video games in space.
12  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: February 15, 2018, 12:45:59 AM

I have no idea if true or not but it would not shock me.

Consider:
- Bitmain recently releasing previously unannounced blake miner with shipping within 10 days
- Competition heating up in sha256 mining space so bitmain looking for new markets
- Bitmain seems to be rolling out miners for new algos in blitzkrieg fashon
- Would fit pattern of bitmain building asic chips for gpu algos
- threats from dev teams to change hashing algos or switch to Proof of Stake does not deter them

Where it ends I do not know.
13  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: DragonMint 16TH/S halongmining.com on: February 15, 2018, 12:22:06 AM
Does it help if I say these are real? I can't speak for their production targets times costs etc. but they do hash uniquely different and I've helped work with them remotely.

Most importantly. What was the hash rate that you observed when you were "working with them remotely"?
14  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: DragonMint 16TH/S halongmining.com on: February 09, 2018, 09:43:10 PM
The gear is real.

I have to admit it does *appear* at this time that buyers will get something, maybe.

However, the last reply from @bt898 seems like its still the most probable: these are stolen inno prototypes and halong found a way to mass produce them and are even now trying to alter the controller.

Personally, I'm not going anywhere near one of these things.
I'm just not that desperate and the whole thing still stinks.
15  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: DragonMint 16TH/S halongmining.com on: February 09, 2018, 09:24:55 PM
Just a food for brain... IF someone orders full palettes... Will that person need to manually connect all boards, and cables with hashboards and control boards? Thats seems to much work that is not needed for 50-100 units...

The video subtitle is "Some miners awaiting QA." so they would not get shipped in pallets like you see in video.

QA is gonna be saying "Yoshi! you forgot the controllers!!!"
16  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: DragonMint 16TH/S halongmining.com on: February 04, 2018, 07:20:52 PM

Tough call. The front face of the housing for the controller board looks identical:

SD card slot next to an ip reset next to the RJ45 next to a reset next to two verticals lights

Looking at the front face is not at all conclusive of anything. Those are just front connectors that could be connected to anything or nothing.

Same way you can swap out your car stereo.
17  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Automate Your miners setup for ur S9 farm | Beta on: February 04, 2018, 02:02:11 AM
I am building a similar utility and will incorporate some of the ideas on this thread.

I agree with use of sed command to update the conf file.

For example the following command sets up miner to privileged mode so it can be controlled through api

sed -i 's_^\("api-allow" : \).*_\1"W:your.remote.ip.address,W:192.168.0.1/16,A:0/0",_' bmminer.conf

The general idea of something I would like to do is to
    - scan local subnet addresses to find ip addresses that respond on port 4028
    - check if the miner has already been "provisioned" with my custom settings
    - run the setup batch file if needed

I don't have all of these steps automated yet but I have a few steps ready.

The first batch will ROI before the 2nd batch ships, no worries there. Than the second batch should have a similar ROI based off the lower price point.

It depends on what you do with the SIA coins that you mine.
1. Stay in SIA?
2. Exchange to another crypto?
3. Cash out to fiat?

What is everyone doing with their SIA?

Listing a companys phone number is not violating anyone’s privacy policy and neither is divulging a company’s tax ID’s. Where did they teach you that in the IRS? I’m sorry my BS flag is waving hard at that statement.

That exact number given to me is on bitmain warranty’s site plain as day. I am not and don’t intend on giving a cent to this company on no one else should either.

@krisgt30
You did not do anything wrong. You gave a factual public account of your interaction with a company's customer service.

People have the right to know. Thank you for sharing.
