1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's Dual Ethereum AMD+NVIDIA GPU Miner v12.0 (Windows/Linux) on: February 04, 2019, 11:34:07 AM

Do you have any other idea of how to fix it?
If there is no way to fix it then for sure i will try the workaround

I've had an issue where I had to connect dummy or monitor to motherboard GPU. Solved it by installing latest Intel graphics driver (Z270 chipset)
Would be interesting to know the real reason behind this. I had identical rigs, the old ones updated to build 1709 was OK, build 1709 installed from scratch did not work.
I suppose the problem could have been fixed in the mining software if anyone knew what was causing it.

I have not tried to update the chipset driver, i thought this is also done as part of the overall windows updates, i hope this will solve my problem. The strange thing is that 6 machines worked for almost a whole year with absolutely no issues. I have not changed even a single wire on them. So the only changes were windows updates. I tried to DDU and reinstall fresh updated AMD or Nvidia drivers but that did not really help at all, and i tried just about many other things, it never worked. I have already ordered the dummies, but i am always curious to learn new things about technology. Why one machine would work for a whole year and then one day (supposedly after a windows update) it will stop to work and virtual no software workaround would solve that. Moreover, i still have other machines with the SAME EXACT hardware & software configuration, and yes with the same windows updates, but they work just absolutely fine, they never needed any dummies. However, it seems that during the last few months, one machine gets this issue every month or few weeks, so this phenomena is getting spread almost on all machines. What makes me wonder, is that if it was windows updates, then why not all machines which has the same windows updates switched on, dont suffer from the same issue?
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Do you use hdmi dummy plug for your mining rig? on: February 01, 2019, 04:48:38 PM
My rig was running fine for months without hdmi dummy plug and after Windows 10 updated to version 1709, it stopped.
First gpu started to hash 0 mh/s so I had to buy cheap hdmi dummy plug.
After I pluged it in, it works fine now.
I was wondering, how come gpu could work without hdmi dummy plug before, and after windows updated it can only run with hdmi dummy plug?
I used same drivers before and after windows update.
Gpus are rx 470 4gb.

i am wondering if you have ever got an answer for your question?
because i also face the same issue
few rigs run perfectly well for one year, and after some windows updates they require this plug
why is that? and how can i make it to work just like it did for a whole year without having to buy 15 dummies for 15 rigs?
uninstalling the update will not help, because windows will reinstall it FORCEFULLY without asking for your permission, even when you have Windows Pro (you can disable it ONLY for 30 days)

You need a hdmi dummy that will simulate the monitor.

Thank you very much for the advice, i will surely do that if there is no other solution
I have built an entire farm of more than 200 GPU from an absolute scratch, so i am very passionate about technology and always like to dig behind the issue. Those machines worked perfectly well without a monitor for more than a year. I can definitely use a workaround, but i would love to know what has caused this issue and solve it
I have tried all the below solutions but NOTHING helped:

4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Claymore's Dual Ethereum GPU Miner v12.0 Win10 Pro on: January 31, 2019, 02:05:34 PM
Hi All

I am using Claymore 12.0 on Windows 10 Pro 64
I have few AMD (RX580) machines and I have few Nvidia (1080ti) machines
I have put a bat file to start Claymore's Miner automatically in:
~\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

Some of the AMD and some of the Nvidia miners will not work and will throw the below error when the Claymore's Miner is started in the background (when the monitor is not connected):
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available

If i connect the monitor to that machine and restart the machine, the bat file will execute, Claymore Miner will run and no error messages will be displayed on the screen, so the machine can run for several days with no interruption. However, once the machine is restarted for whatever reason (Temporary electricity outage, windows updates, some GPU crahses, among many other reasons) the miner will never work until i connect the monitor to that machine and restart it while the monitor is connected then it will work. I can disconnect the monitor after that and the machine will stay up and running for a week or so.

Has anyone faced such issues?
How did you solve them?
I tried DDU the existing drivers, and i tried installing the latest ones, it has never helped
Other machines with similar configuration have no issues, but what i notice is that every month one more machine starts to behave in this way, to me it seems something happens after windows updates. I can't uninstall those updates because windows will reinstall them again. Although i have the Pro version i can only postpone the updates up to one month not more, so that wont really help

Any good solution please?

Hello Guys

I have got 8 Zotac 1080 TI AMP Extreme
What do you think will be the most profitable coin to mine with those GPUs at the moment
Unfortunately i learned that there are so many small cap coins which are not listen on whattomine which are way more profitable
Your advise will be highly appreciated

Thanks!

Turns out the Bitmain E3 (NOT the F3 as reported) is not exactly a big GPU mining killer.
180 Mhash
800 watts

About the the SAME performance as a well-tuned 6 card RX 580/480 based rig, and slightly INFERIOR to a well-tuned 6-card GTX 1070 based rig.

My tuned RX 580 Special Edition GPU mine at 31 MH\s while consuming below 90 Watts
They have 2 years warranty not 6 months
They come from very well established "ÄMD" provider not from a shady one
You can buy the GPUs from a local shop and return it to the same local shop to swap it for a new GPU in case something goes wrong
You can buy it TODAY, you dont have to wait for 4 to 6 months

I dont see personalty ANY advantage for those called ASICs
They are just a punch of cheap memory chips, they are not really ASICs

One last thing,
You can also play games on a GPU Smiley ...
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: EWBF's CUDA Zcash miner on: April 13, 2018, 06:07:56 PM

Try to use, Overclocking tool such as MSI AB or Overdriven tool and play with clocks on the affected GPU card, much better if you install this solely without other cards while doing troubleshoots

this is good read and also my reference for doing 1080ti clocks

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1940567.0

The problem turned out to be that those 3 GPUs throttle at 67 degrees C, which is quite strange. The only assumption that i have is that such config is in their BIOS. I have tried different software like MSI AB, nothing has helped. The soonest they reach a temp of 67 C, the "memory controller load" drops from ~80% to ~50% then the hashrate drops from 750 Sol to 250 Sol
I did not dare to manipulated an encrypted BIOS, so i just reduced the power limit from 100% to 70% and set the fan manually on 55%. this way i keep the temp between 55 to 65 without hitting the 67 limit that those GPUs have.
I hope you find this helpful!
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: EWBF's CUDA Zcash miner on: April 12, 2018, 03:42:49 PM
did the 10 GPU all connected to a single rig?
Yes, the 10 GPUs are all connected to the same rig
If i run one GPU or 3 or 7 or 10, always the same 3 GPUs will underperform and the 7 will perform well, which makes me doubtful that it is some resource issue from the rig. Also i unplugged the power cable from a high performing GPU and plugged into a low poerforming GPU and did not help, I also took the powered riser from the high performing GPU to a low performing GPU and did not help

hows your PSU setup?
Evga 1600 has 4 GPUs
BeQuite 1200 has 3 GPUs
But again, with one single GPU on the Evga 1600 the bad performing GPU will still perform bad

with that number of GPU's, try to set higher Virtual mem
I have 80 GB virtual memory
With one single GPU still it will slow down to ~250 to ~350

also how do you do your clocks?
Default only

try to do downclock a bit just for isolations
Which i reduce the intensity of the miner, the bad performing GPUs go up from 250 Sol to 350 Sol, but this is still very far from the 750 Sol or even just 700 Sol like all other GPUs

I tried several times to uninstall with DDU and reinstall all over again, no change
I am wondering if it is a software issue?
would reinstalling windows from scratch help? taking into consideration that no matter how i play around with the GPUs the low performers will always perform lower no matter if you give the the power cables and powered risers and PCIe slot of a high performer. makes me doubt if it is Windows issue

The only thing i could spot is the "memory controller load"
I have googled it quite a bit with no success

Hi All,
I have 10 Zotac 1080 TI Extreme GPUs, running on windows 10, 64 bit.
Windows updates & Nvidia drivers are all the latest
I have 3 GPUs out of the 7, which start hashing at 750 Sol, but after few minutes they drop all the way down to ~300 or even ~250
I have tried different power risers, different PSUs, different PCIe slots, nothing has helped
The same 3 GPUs will always start at 750 and go down to ~300
The same 7 GPUs will start at 750 and stay at the same level, no matter how i swap the PSUs, powered risers, slots, sockets, etc...
The display is connected directly to the motherboard not to any GPU All GPUs has power state of P2, so i dont believe that one will do 750 and the other 250 because of this
I tried different miners, but the two showed absolutely the same result. 3 GPUs badly perform and 7 perform very well
I noticed that "memory controller load" on the high performing GPUs is about 80% while on the badly performing GPUs is around 55%, using Hardware Info software. Is this the root cause? Any idea how can i fix this?

11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 19GPU B250 Expert users, UNITE! on: November 29, 2017, 09:29:49 PM
You did NOT take the total system cost into account.
Try adding $40-$50 to the price of each card THEN compare - and that's being optimistic as I don't think you can build a viable *8 slot* system for $320. It's hard enough building a viable *6 slot* system for $320, if at all possible.

Dual mine of DCR does in fact impact ETH hashrate - that's been WIDELY reported on the Claymore dual mining thread - though it's not a big impact, 10-20% per most of the reports.

I do agree that relative profitability can vary - ETH in the last week has kicked up a lot more than ZEC has as a percentage, which is giving a bigger boost to ETH mining than to ZEC mining which is at least for the short term boosting the profits on AMD cards more than NVidia cards, at least 'till folks start building enough rigs to drive the diff up to match the price increase.

It would have been interesting to see how the numbers compared a month ago, when both ETH and ZEC were a lot lower priced and fairly CLOSE on price (and both had a bit less network hashrate).

By the way, the figures i reported for AMD are quite conservative, and definitely include the slight impact of dual mining
So here i am going to add 50$ on top of each card:
1) ASUS Dual GeForce GTX 1070 OC, DUAL-GTX1070-O8G
This card costs 406 EUR in Europe, this is the lowest price possible here for this card
The hash rates ranges from 420 to 480, so I picked up somewhere in the middle 450
Power draw ranges from 120 to 140, so I left it at 120 K\W
The results are 2.62$ net profit per day
If we divide 2.62$ by 456 EUR we get  0.0057$ return on each invested EUR

Now lets compare this with AMD RX 580 card:
1) AMD Sapphire RX 580 Nitro Video Card + 8GB
This card costs only 291 EUR here in Europe
The hash rate can get easily stable at 29 MH/s mining ETH
It can also dual mine DCR at 900 MH\s without impacting the hashrate of ETH
This will draw below 130 W, but to be on the safe side I use 130 W
The result is 2.48$ a day (net)
2.48$ divided by 341 EUR initial cost of GPU, will leave us with 0.0073 $ return on each invested EUR
0.0073 - 0.0057 = 0.0016
0.0016 divided by 0.0057 is 21.5% higher return from AMD compared to Nvidia

by the way, if we switch to 13 GPU Mobos we can dramatically reduce the common fixed costs, but as you can see over 20% is still to the side of AMD, which is not little at all
I have been doing such comparisons for the last two months, and i NEVER managed to find an Nvidia card outperforming AMD card, specially if we focus only on the 8GB and above, because anything bellow this could easily become useless within a year, specially the 4GB versions (depending on the currency you mine of course)

Once again, this makes me REALLY very puzzled why would anyone invest on Nvidia cards from PURE financial perspective? I see people building an entire farm of up to 100 1080 TI GPUs, and i wonder if they invested the same amount of money on AMD 580 would they have made more money? All #s indicate that they should make much more on the 580s. So why would someone invest over 100K$ for less ROI?

This makes me feel that i am missing something here
what is it?
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 19GPU B250 Expert users, UNITE! on: November 29, 2017, 06:11:04 AM
ZEC. Compare against any of the Nvidia cards in the GTX 1070 to GTX 1080 ti range - on both "power efficient" and on "max hashrate".

AMD cards are ALMOST getting competative there again - but even with RX 570 cards in the $209 range they still have a bit to go to manage it.

To be fair, go ahead and include the "return" figures for the AMD card doing ETH vs the NVidia card doing ZEC, as that is probably going to be the "best option" for each card.

Don't forget to factor in SYSTEM COST - the AMD card might be half the price, but you also need to add in the "cost per slot" of the system itself on each side, which will be the same.

It's a more fair comparison to compare a common 6 card RIG of each card involved, since cards don't mine by themselves.

Thank you QuintLeo for the insight, so here are the #s for all of us to review, critisize and learn what is the most profitable GPU\Coin to mine for x amount of $ invested:
Pre-assumptions:
1) Since we assume that we will build two SIMILAR rigs, each accommodating 8 GPUs, this means that the common expenses of each GPU will be the same, meaning that one Nvidia GPU will need for example extra 10$ to be functionally mining and the same goes for one AMD GPU. Therefore, this will leave us focused on the cost of the GPU, Electricity draw, and $s generated at the end of the day\week\month
2)  Lets assume that the cost of electricity is 0.11$ per K\W. If it is a bit different this will affect both cards and not one of them

Lets start with the Nvidia cards:
1) ASUS Dual GeForce GTX 1070 OC, DUAL-GTX1070-O8G
This card costs 406 EUR in Europe, this is the lowest price possible here for this card
The hash rates ranges from 420 to 480, so I picked up somewhere in the middle 450
Power draw ranges from 120 to 140, so I left it at 120 K\W
The results are 2.62$ net profit per day
If we divide 2.62$ by 406 EUR we get  0.0065$ return on each invested EUR

Now lets compare this with AMD RX 580 card:
1) AMD Sapphire RX 580 Nitro Video Card + 8GB
This card costs only 291 EUR here in Europe
The hash rate can get easily stable at 29 MH/s mining ETH
It can also dual mine DCR at 900 MH\s without impacting the hashrate of ETH
This will draw below 130 W, but to be on the safe side I use 130 W
The result is 2.48$ a day (net)
2.48$ divided by 291 EUR initial cost of GPU, will leave us with 0.0085 $ return on each invested EUR
0.0085 - 0.0065 = 0.002
0.002 divided by 0.0065 is 31% higher return from AMD compared to Nvidia

Please correct any mistakes i have made in the above calculations, also please feel free to correct them and present your own calculations, i will be very glad to point out  what i think you have missed from AMD side

Sorry for the long post, but it had to be this way, if we are going to dig into deep details
I hope that this benefits everyone...
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 19GPU B250 Expert users, UNITE! on: November 28, 2017, 02:21:58 PM
AMD is only the king of mining on some algorithms, on others NVidia blows them out of the water, and there are a few it can be fairly close now that the RX "good mining" AMD card pricing is finally getting back down to reasonable.

Don't ASSUME that ETH is the only thing out there like way too many clueless website reviews, even if it does have more GPUs mining it than any other algorithm.

Could you please give me a concrete example of one single coin and one single Nvidia card?
I want to make my own calculations and show you that investing the same amount of USD you will have higher returns by using the AMD card rather than the Nvidia
Please do NOT confuse me here, i am not trying to annoy you or anyone else
I am trying to benefit myself and others viewing this thread
I am be missing some info and i am very happy to learn from you
However, if Nvidia is able to blow up AMD on a particular Algo, the question remains how much does that Nvidia card cost, and how much does it net at the end of the day, then you will have the net return per dollar invested
For example if Nvidia nets 3 dollars a day but costs 900$, this means that each dollar invested returns 0.0033
However, if AMD costs only 400$ and returns only 2$ instead of 3$, this means that each dollar invested returns 0.005 which is obviously higher than Nvidia

So please give me a specific card and a specific currency and i would like to make my own calculations and come back to you...

By the way,
I have been in touch with Asus Technical Support just yesterday and here is the summary to those who are interested:
1) on Asus official website it is mentioned that "An unlimited number of GPUs will be supported following a driver update that is planned for Q4 2017"
https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/B250-MINING-EXPERT/
2) Although it is clearly mentioned that unlimited # of GPUs will be supported this year, the technical support could NOT confirm such info, so basically they are clueless whether this will actually happen this year or not
3) At the moment, you can run a maximum of 13 AMD GPUs without facing great challenges. However, officially it is not recommended to exceed 11 AMD GPUs
4) There is one official thread from Asus where they propose different set-ups, so yes, if you max on 13 AMD GPUs, the Mobo will look for P106 mining specific GPUs to complement the 19
https://www.asus.com/us/support/FAQ/1034921

It is very interesting what do you guys think about this Mobo
From one hand, we all know that AMD is the king in mining:
1) it has got better hashrate for every dollar invested
2) yes i hear about electricity efficiency of the Nvidia cards, but if you make your calculations you will find out that 5,000$ invested on AMD cards will net more $$$ than if they were invested on Nvidia cards, regardless of the coin you mine and regardless of the cost of electricity at your location. if you think otherwise, send me your #s and i will be very happy to revise them, i am pretty sure you must have missed something
3) If we can max only 13 GPUs on this Mobo or officially 11, then do we really need 19 slots? assuming that you really want to get the best out of your invested $$?
4) Has any of you challenged Asus on this limitation of 11 AMD GPUs? has anyone got further info when this limit will be eliminated?

Thank you!

Who told you that Eth and Zec are the most profitable coins to mine?

The following website claims that ETH is the most profitable:
http://whattomine.com

Assuming that you have put your hands on RX 580, which is also the most cost effective (price, hash rate, power consumption, etc...)

If you are speculating about future gains of other altcoins then this is not guaranteed
But for GPU mining ETH is definitely the most profitable as for now

** Breaking News ** Run 12 21 GPUs on Windows

https://youtu.be/miUoqnUqk9M?t=3285

I just want to make it clear that if you are a huge of of AMD, then you can run MAX of 13 GPUs on a single motherboard as shown on this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miUoqnUqk9M&feature=youtu.be&t=3285

However, if you are a huge fan on Nvidia then you won the lottery, you can indeed run 19 GPUs on a single motherboard all from the same vendor

The interesting question here is,
When will AMD remove this limit of 13 GPUs, and why their drivers search for P106 after you have reached the 13 GPU limit and will not accept any further AMD GPUs?

Does anyone know?
I think BBT mentioned that he has opened a ticket for AMD and i doubt that he has already gotten an answer on that
